Chapter One
Rogelio
Everything changed after she was given the Runestone. A magical artefact that gave only her, special abilities.
At first, she couldn't believe it. Her mind was stuck between trying to accept it, and trying to wake from it. Getting punched in the face during her first sparring match was what cemented the fact. The fact that she was a superhero.
She was… Working on a name.
Glimmer couldn't really use her own name after all. "Sparkles" was just a nickname, and it really didn't stand out. "Glitter" was a definite no. "The Human" was just plain stupid.
'Ugh! Why is this so hard!? Anything sparkle based shouldn't be that much of a problem.' Glimmer thought to herself.
Sparkles. So far, she could make sparkles. Yes, she was stronger, and faster, but not by much. Nowhere near as Catra, or Adora. They both had so many powers they could use, compared to her. At this point, she was starting to think that sparkles was all she could do.
And she was starting to doubt if she could handle her first mission. She got off the bus, and headed over to where Catra was. She had her assumptions, but Catra was good at this secret identity thing. She couldn't keep count of all the excuses she'd made when she went to train. And keeping her temporary suit by herself was a chore. Literally!
It wasn't much of a super suit, consisting of a pair of boots and gloves, a coat over her shirt and pants, and a cheap mask. All color coordinated to resemble a superhero suit.
She changed into her "Super suit", and made her way to a rooftop. A tiring way to a rooftop. Once she got up, she found Catra in her black and red suit. The white and gold was starting to grow on her, but this was nice too.
"You made it." Catra greeted.
"Yeah, you said they were taking Rogelio to Beast Island? Haven't seen that guy since you beat him after he went on a rampage." Gilmmer said.
"Don't judge a book by its cover. Deep down, Rogelio's a nice guy. We used to be friends back in Thaymore." Catra told her.
"You speak reptilian?" Glimmer asked.
"A little. He and Kyle were our neighbors." Catra said.
"What happened to him?" Glimmer questioned.
Catra's ears lowered, and she turned. "His mom got sick. It happened a few years after I found my Runestones." She said in a quiet voice.
"I'm sorry." Glimmer put a hand on her shoulder.
"He wanted to help her, but he still committed a crime. Scorpia and Entrapta are still free, but no one suspects that I helped them. But if try to free Rogelio, they won't trust me, even when they think I saved them." Catra closed her hands in frustration, angry at the fact that she was helpless to save another one of her friends.
It didn't help that she was supposed make sure that he made it to Beast Island. Mermista was a nice girl, but sometimes she asks too much of her. Looks like she didn't really have any other choice.
"Catra, I'm here for you. Remember that." Glimmer told her.
Catra looked up, a scoffed. "Hard to take you serious with that mask." She joked.
"I had to work with what I had! You can be really difficult sometimes, you know that?" Glimmer pouted.
"Everyone tells me that. You sure you want to stick with an eye mask? Your mom could probably recognize you." Catra pointed out.
"I don't like the other ones. They're hard to breathe in." Glimmer admitted.
"I've gotten so used to it, I don't even notice anymore." Catra told her.
"I'm kind of jealous of Adora. She doesn't have to change clothes like a normal person, and she looks so majestic that you don't recognize her." Glimmer said.
Catra crossed her arms and scoffed. "You saying you want to laze around? I'm not letting my pupil get soft on me."
"All I'm saying is, there's gotta be a more effective way to do this. Isn't there some spell that could swap our clothes for us?" Glimmer asked.
"It's a waste of magic, and the less magic you have…?" Catra lead on.
"The less fortunate you'll be." Glimmer finished.
"Always helps to have an advantage." Catra smirked behind the mask.
Before they could continue, Catra's ears raised up, and she look to the streets. "Get ready. This is going to be your first time being a real hero."
"I'm a bit nervous." Glimmer said, trying her best to relax.
"I don't think anyone wouldn't be. Just try not to die. Or run out on me." Catra told her.
"I won't."
They both traversed the rooftops, keeping up with the convoy. Catra was doing so without much effort, but it wasn't as easy for Glimmer. Why couldn't she have longer legs?
So far, the escort was going well. And of course, well isn't always everlasting. At some point, Rogelio managed to break out of the vehicle confining him. And once he was free, he let out a cliché roar of freedom.
"It's sad that this isn't even a little bit surprising. There goes my evening." Catra muttered.
The two heroes made their way down to the lizard man, who was no doubt going to be causing more havoc. The escorts he was throwing around could attest to that deduction.
"Rogelio!" Catra called out.
The lizard man turned to her direction, and let out a furious roar.
"Harsh." Catra commented.
"I don't think he's in the mood for talking, Magicat." Glimmer said.
"I got the point, but don't hurt him too bad." The Magicat proceeded to run at him. He swung a claw at her in response, to which she dodged.
Glimmer was really nervous at this point, and had no idea what to do in this situation. This wasn't going to be like sparring at all, and the hits weren't going to be held back.
If only confidence was bottled and sold.
Catra was still fighting, while she was hesitating. In her defense, this was a tough lizard guy, and she was pretty short, and only slightly super strong. Just watching fights like this was more relaxing than being apart of them. Maybe she was in over her-
"Look out!"
She was snapped out of her own thoughts when she realized that he was charging at her. She barely had any time to move- scratch that, she had no time to move at all.
She closed her eyes, tensed up every muscle that reacted in a situation like this. And she barely noticed the impact… that didn't hit her? He ran into something behind her?
"Did you just teleport?" What?
"I teleported?" Glimmer looked to where she was, and where she is now. Just a few feet away from where she could have been run over. Did she teleport? Can she teleport?
She looked up and saw him charging to attack once more. With a yelp, she suddenly disappeared in a flash of sparkles. Almost instantly, she reappeared somewhere else.
The sudden change in scenery was actually unnerving to her. The feeling in her stomach wasn't present the last time she teleported, but she did have her eyes open this time.
She did something that wasn't just sparkles. She teleported. Do you know how much easier she could get around? How much time she could spare? Where has this been all her life!?
At the very least, it came at the right moment for her to keep a distance from the lizard man. Without any warnings, Rogelio started running away. The two heroes chased after him.
"Can you do it at will?" Catra asked.
"Let me try!" Glimmer began concentrating on her magic, trying to move herself ahead of him.
'Come on, just go poof already!' Glimmer thought.
She tripped. She teleported ahead, but her foot got caught and tripped her. "I'm ok!" She called out.
The pursuit was still on, and Rogelio wasn't slowing down. Everything was relatively fine until he started throwing bystanders aside. The Magicat caught one of them, while Glimmer teleported to help the others.
"Are you sure we can keep doing this!?" Glimmer yelled.
"I can't let him go! If I help him, it'll only make things worse. And I can't ask you to do it. This is your first time being a real hero!" Catra responded.
Rogelio started charging inside a building, and the two heroes made sure to keep the chaos to a minimum. Once they got out, they reached an isolated work area.
Rogelio was just… Gone?
Blam!*
Rogelio came out of nowhere, and slammed into The Magicat against the wall.
"No!!" Glimmer charged at him, throwing a fist full of sparkles in his face. While he was trying to fix his eyesight, Glimmer went to check on Catra.
"Are you okay?" She asked.
No response.
"Magicat?"
Still nothing.
"Catra?" She whispered.
Catra's tail curled tightly, and she coughed.
"Thank goodness!" Glimmer exclaimed.
She turned to Rogelio, who finished getting the glitter out of his eyes. He growled at her, ready to charge once more. Glimmer teleported over him and grabbed around his neck, causing him to try and shake her off.
Then she slammed her fist against his face, making more sparkles go into his eyes, putting Catra's first lesson to good use. He managed to get her off, then he began rubbing his eyes again. He looked at her, and charged towards her.
Glimmer teleported, leading him to a wall, and he slammed into it. His scales were too tough for her to effectively hurt him, but this was the next best thing. She kept making him slam into the walls, but it wasn't stopping him from trying again.
She looked around, trying to find something to stop him, and spotted a huge scaffolding. She smirked as she came up with an idea. He didn't even notice what she was trying to do as he was breaking down the supports. He only realized what she was planning after he found his ankles wrapped in cables, making him trip.
He looked up, seeing her at the top of the scaffolding, with a smirk on her face. She placed a foot up, and stomped as hard as she could, finally breaking the unstable platform down.
He stared in horror, as it all fell on top of him. And with a loud boom, there was smoke everywhere. Once it cleared up, Glimmer looked at her handiwork, and saw Rogelio, pitifully trying to get out, but the debris was too large for him to lift.
She stared at him, desperately roaring out. And she didn't feel victorious. She felt regretful. She looked back at Catra, who was still unconscious, then back at Rogelio.
She slowly approached him, and raised her arms up, showing him that she meant no further harm. She grabbed onto his arm, and teleported the both of them.
He found himself on a rooftop, and without the weight of the scaffolding. He turned to stare at her in confusion, and saw her face, urging him to leave. He hissed in gratitude before turning away.
Once he was out of sight, Glimmer went back to check on Catra. With a flash of sparkles, she arrived back to where the fight took place, and she ran to her friend.
"Catra! Are you okay!?" She asked.
Catra groaned as she was sat up. She turned to look at Glimmer, and she chuckled.
"You know, you didn't have to do that." She said.
"I know. I wanted to." Glimmer replied.
"I'm glad. But don't do that again. It's unprofessional to always let someone go." Catra told her.
"Isn't it also unprofessional to let someone to catch you by surprise?" Glimmer retorted.
"Touché." Catra mumbled.
-
"I'm proud of you. Not just for finding out a new power, or handling him on your own. You did the right thing." Catra said.
"I know. Thanks." Glimmer smiled at her.
"You made your debut, kid. You're officially a hero." Catra praised her.
"I still haven't come up with a name yet! What if they make one up for me?" Glimmer bemoaned.
"You'll think of something. Whatever you come up with, they'll see you for who you are: a hero." Catra smiled.
"That was corny." Glimmer admitted.
"Adora's really rubbing off on me. I kinda wish I could stay." She blurted out.
"What? You're leaving!?" Glimmer yelled out.
"Right. I guess you were bound to find out sooner or later. Yes, I'm leaving. There hasn't been much progress with Adora's training, so we went to Norwyn. He said that there might be something in Mystacor that could help us." Catra told her.
"But what am I going to do!?" Glimmer asked frantically.
"Sparkles, I trust you. You'll be fine." Catra rested a hand on her shoulder, and gave her a confident smile.
Glimmer looked at her, and relaxed herself. "Yeah. I guess you're right."
"Cheer up. I got you a present, and hopefully, you know how to sew." Catra gave her a box, tied with a ribbon.
"Sew?" Glimmer opened it, and pulled out rolls of spandex?
"You said you made your suit with what you had, right? Well, you have this now." Catra said.
Glimmer hugged her, tightly. "Thank you."
"Don't mention it." Catra smiled.
She got up, and started walking off. "I'll see you soon, ok?"
"Ok!" With her gone, Glimmer excitedly went to meet a friend.
-
She arrived at her destination, and went to a certain window, and knocked. The person inside opened it and greeted her.
"Glimmer! What a lovely surprise!" She smiled.
The girl had long blonde hair, and she was wearing a pink dress. She knew about Glimmer's secret, only because they were best friends.
"Hey, Perfuma. Can you sew?" Glimmer asked.
"Yes, why do you ask?" Perfuma questioned.
"I got something from The Magicat." She presented her gift.
"Have you come up with a design?" Perfuma asked.
"I'm working on it." Glimmer admitted.

And the chapter is finished! First chapter for the sequel. Hope you enjoyed reading it, because I certainly enjoyed writing it. After seeing what was coming from the new Spider-Man 2 game, I just had to post this. Excited!!! Still not sure if I'm going to be adding the story for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 as a base, but we'll see.
This chapter is way better, compared to the first chapter from my previous fic. And I think my writing has improved, even if it's only a little bit. I'm working on who's going to be the villain in this story, because I forgot who I originally planned to use. Don't be afraid to review, if you have questions, just ask. Just a heads up, I do not have all the answers you want.
P.S. Glimmer is so much easier to write than Catra is.
