Chapter 4 New Siblings

Tsuneo's Apartment…

Tsuneo was well shocked, he was not expecting his youngest daughter at the door dropping in so unexpectedly. Looking up he noticed his son Ryan was also at the door. "Hi Emma, Ryan, not that I am not happy to see you both here, but what about your school?" he said with some assertiveness.

"We took our exams early and got them done," said Ryan.

"We did it because we missed you daddy," said Emma.

"That and she wanted to come to Japan," said Ryan.

"Hey! You missed dad too" exclaimed Emma.

This caused a chuckle from Tsuneo.

Miho was meanwhile standing and watching the whole scene with a smile. They were so happy together it made her envious. When she was growing up, she had little time for fun with Maho. Her mother would never, if hardly spend any time with them It got worse as they both got older, both were forced to inherit the Nishizumi style. Still these two showing up put a dent in her plan to ask the Captain an important question after pancakes, guess she would have to wait until there alone.

"Hey Dad who's that?" asked Ryan.

Miho soon realized all the attention was on her, "Eh, I am Nishizumi Miho, pleased to meet you both," said Miho.

"Nishizumi? That's a long name," said Emma.

"Her names Miho Emma, Nishizumi her family name," said Ryan.

"I knew that, I was um testing you, you passed brother," said Emma.

Ryan rolled his eyes. Then he walked up to Miho, "I'm Asuka Ryan, nice to meet you," said Ryan extending his hand.

Miho took the hand and shook it, "You too," said Miho. Then she noticed that Emma walked up and was staring at her.

"Geeeeeeeee(Stare)" Emma was staring at Miho intently, creeping Miho out a bit.

"Is there something wrong?" asked Miho.

"Emma, it's rude to stare here as it is America," said Tsuneo.

"Oh sorry, it's just that your cute is all," said Emma.

"Oh thank you," said Miho.

"Sorry, I'm Asuka Emma, Miho," said Emma.

"Nice to meet you…"

Them Emma suddenly wrapped her arms around Miho giving her a big hug, "pleased to meet you," said Emma squeezing pretty tightly.

"Emma, can't you see she can't breathe," scolded Tsuneo.

"Oh sorry," said Emma. "Is that pancakes?"

"Yes,, you three have a seat, I'll make more pancakes and explain everything," said Tsuneo going back to cooking.

After setting down and explaining the whole story to his two kids, both of them did not sound surprised at their father's actions.

"Man, dad is awesome," said Emma.

"Yep, that's dad," said Ryan, "so how does your head feel?"

"Much better," said Miho. Miho looked at these two, if this was indeed her father than these two are no doubt siblings, well half siblings.

Then a phone rang, "Hello," said Tsuneo. "What? The meeting is at noon today, I'm on my way," said Tsuneo hanging up his phone. "I'm sorry kids, I have to go to a meeting."

"Oh, and we just got here," cried Emma.

"I know Emma, don't worry I will be back for dinner. Since both of you don't seem tired and don't want to hang out in this stuffy apartment. Why don't you three go out on the town.," he suggested. "Miho why don't you go with them, making new friends doesn't hurt."

"Uh, hai," said Miho.

"That sounds like fun," said Emma.

"Well better than sticking around here," said Ryan.

Tsuneo pulled out some Yen handing it out to Ryan, "that should be enough for some shopping, fun, lunch, and whatever thing teenagers do these day." Tsuneo went into the laundry-bathroom and a minute later came out in his service uniform. "Well I'm off, you kids have a good day, be safe and have fun, call me if there's an emergency."

As he was about to head out the door, "Oh and one more thing, try to avoid doing any pranks to one another right now," he said. After Tsuneo left out the door, the three teenagers stood for a second.

"So, umm, what do you all want to do?" asked Ryan.

"Eh?" wondered Miho.

"I know let's do some shopping, fun, then lunch," said Emma.

"Good enough for me," said Ryan.

"Hai," said Miho going along with them. Plus this was an opportunity to get to know them.

Arrow Strike HQ…

A Long table in an office room. On the right side were military personal adorned in their uniforms, on the left side were business heads of various department heads wearing business attires, finally at the was the big boss himself Brandon Brigs with a gavel with everyone having either coffee or water on standby. "Gentlemen, ladies, I hereby declare this first meeting in session. "Now our first order of business is our upcoming first season whether it be postponed or continued as planned, Captain Asuka," he gestured.

"Thank you Mr. Brigs, now, we as the military wish for the season to be postpone While its ambitious to start the season this fall, we highly suggest postpone it until next spring, our main reason being safety, training, and quality," said Tsuneo. "Teaching safety will take time, this is not like riding a bicycle. The boys and girls must both learn how to react in emergencies such as crashing, failed engine, and breathing in high altitudes," he finished.

"With respect Captain," said Larry Givens of Advertisement, "we've been promoting our sport for almost a month and have many schools already getting sponsorships from us," he objected.

"We've already invested so much already, we must begin as soon as possible," said Dylan Krane of Finance.

"I must concur with the Captain," said Eric Crockett of Sponsorships, "sorry my friends but I must disagree with you, what the Captain speaks is true, if we were to train young pilots in a hurry, it would lead to far too many complications, complications that I think Ms. Whitener of our Law Department would not want to deal with," said Eric.

"Yes, despite contracts we still have gotten lawsuits," said Whitener.

"Yes but you managed to save us from serious lawsuits ,"said Larry.

"If I might bring your attention to a mistake Arrow Strike negligence ten years ago," said Lt. Sarah, "Arrow Strike was so excited to start their European League that it resulted in many accidents, one boy lost his legs."

"Yes, I recall that incident, Arrow Strike was lucky, it would've ended the entire European League," said James.

"Having half trained pilots won't be safe nor good entertainment," said Jerome.

"On top of that our JSDF friends want good candidates for their pool and we plan to produce," said Sarah.

"That's enough," said Mr. Brigs. "Gentlemen, ladies, I am convinced, we shall postpone the season until next spring due to safety and quality. This will give you more time Captain, we at the board expect good results," he said hitting his gavel.

"Thank you Mr. Brigs," said Tsuneo.

"Now moving on, Mr. Crocket how our negotiation with Mitsubishi coming?"

"I've gotten them to sign a contract for fifty Zeros," said Eric.

"Good," said Mr. Brigs as thy continued on with the meeting.

Shopping Mall…

Miho was with Ryan and Emma as all of them were exploring a shopping mall. So far they were having fun, but Miho was bored. Emma taking notice, "Something wrong Miho?" she asked.

"I'm fine," said Miho.

"Why don't you picked the next store, we've been picking too much, you choose," said Ryan.

Miho smiled and then began to look around, she saw a bookstore, another clothing store, candy store. Then she smiled finding exactly the store she was looking for. She pointed to the next store, "That one," she said pointing at a Boko Store.

"What is that?" asked Ryan.

"Boko Bear," said Miho a happy gleam in her eyes. "He an arrogant bear that never gives up but gets beaten anyways."

"Really?" wondered Ryan. 'Don't really want to do in, but it's only fair,' he thought.

"Aww, I think the bandages make him look cute," said Emma. "Let's go Miho."

The group went into the Boko Store and looked at the many different Bokos, Ryan was doing his best to endure, but Emma and Miho were having so much fun.

"Police Boko," pointed Miho.

"Fireman Boko," said Emma.

"Boxer Boko," said Miho.

'If they say Boko one more time, I'm goanna…'

"Boxer Boko," said Emma.

'That's it!" he thought. "Miho, Emma, got to go to the bathroom, be right back," said Ryan running off quickly.

"Is he ok?" asked Miho.

"He must've really had to go," said Emma.

Then Miho noticed a special Boko, and EMT Boko, something she always wanted for her collection.

"Miho you want that Boko?" asked Emma.

"I would, I just don't have any money right now," said Miho.

"I'll get it, and this Aerial Boko for Dad," said Emma.

"Emma, it's Dad's… I mean your Dad's money," protested Miho.

"Don't worry about, I'll pay Dad back one day," said Emma grabbing both Boko's and taking them to the register. Then she handed the EMT Boko to Miho.

Miho accepted it, "thank you Emma."

"Hey, are you both done," said Ryan coming back.

"We just finished," said Emma.

"I saw an arcade a few stores down, why don't we have some fun," said Ryan.

"Yeah, let's go," said Emma.

Miho went along with them, despite only knowing them for a few hours, she already thought of these two as siblings.

They soon arrived at the arcade filled with all sorts of games and electronics.

"Wow, this looks so cool," said Emma.

"I know, come on Miho let's have fun," said Ryan.

"Hai," said Miho looking around and finding a Boko survival game. She went to it and played as Boko trying to dodge oncoming punches. After playing it for a good thirty minutes she got off to see what the others were doing.

"Score!" said Emma causing Miho to walk over. She saw Ryan standing by a small tank, it was a tank simulator game and Emma was the gunner.

Miho looked to see Emma sitting inside the small tank, looking at her score, it was high and she was hitting tracks and tanks alike, she was really good, "wow Emma, you're a good shot," said Miho.

"Thank Miho," said Emma finishing the last level.

"Emma has always been good at shooting, in fact she's better with a rifle than I am," said Ryan.

"Eh, you both shot real guns before?" asked Miho then remembering there from America.

"Of course we have, we take a M1 Carbine out to shoot it at the range," said Ryan.

Emma was putting her name down to see she was disappointed that she was only second place, some person names Naomi was top of the leaderboard. With a sigh she came out of the tank.

"Nice Emma, you're a good shot," said Miho.

"Thanks Miho, you think I can do that Sensha-Do?" asked Emma.

"Hai, you no doubt have talent being a gunner," said Miho.

"She can be good shot, but not good at anything else," snickered Ryan.

"Hey! You jerk, I can," said Emma. "Then I challenge you," she declared.

"You're on," said Ryan both of them then went to a fighting game.

Miho watched these two siblings bickered then went straight to a fighting game. She could not help smile though.

"Blue ninja wins!" said the game.

"Told you," said Ryan.

Emma then pouted, which Miho thought was the cutest thing, "I'll beat you at something else someday brother," said Emma.

Then they all heard murmurs and a crowd gathered around at the dance game. All three of them walked up to see a blonde haired short cut boy with brown eyes wearing a cowboy hat. He was dancing away and they noticed the sweat on the ground.

"What's going on here?" asked Ryan.

"This guy was dancing like this since he lost an hour ago," said one boy.

"He's still going at it," said another girl.

"He's real good," said Emma.

After a few more minutes of watching, he finished with a high score. He got applause, "Thank yawl," he said, he needed a break from the machine so he stepped down. Then he spotted a cute girl in the crowd, he could not resist, he walked up to Miho.

"Eh?" said Miho embarrassed at this young man standing a bit taller than her.

"Howdy, I'm Jimmy Crockett," he introduced himself.

"Nishizumi Miho…" she tried to introduce as Jimmy grabbed her hand and kissed it, making Miho blush. "Eh…?" she blushed.

"How about a date?" asked Jimmy.

"Hey back off," said Emma grabbing Miho hand and pulling it away fast.

"Yeah man, can't you see she doesn't like it." Said Ryan.

"Oh my apologies, are her boyfriend?" asked Jimmy.

"No, she's a friend," said Ryan with a slight blush.

"Yea, so why not ask me instead," said Emma.

Ryan facepalmed immediately knowing not many boys have asked his sister out, "not the point Emma."

"Your cute little lady, but your flat chested," said Jimmy.

A huge tension then went into the air, Ryan could only prepare himself for what was to come. "Miho help immediately," said Ryan moving to restrain Emma.

Miho also moved to restrain Emma.

Emma struggled in both their grips, "wait until I get my hands on you, you punk!"

"Emma calm down," said Miho.

"I know you get insulted every time someone mentions, um that," said Ryan.

"Well I guess I better mosey on," said Jimmy turning around to leave

"Hold on cowboy, you insulted my sister. I am not going to let you get away with that," said Ryan in an angry tone.

He turned around, "I see, your defending your sister's honor, how sweet, very well then partner," said Jimmy.

"I am not your partner," said Ryan.

"Aight, since we can't settle this with our fists, we will do it on the dance machine, what do say?" asked Jimmy.

"I accept," said Ryan.

"Ryan you sure about this?" asked Miho.

"I am Miho, no one insults my family," said Ryan.

Both young men went onto the dance stage, "You ready to get swept partner," said Jimmy.

"No, you are going to get swept partner," said Ryan.

Miho could only watch, "Emma is he always like this?"

"Yes, despite our bickering, he is very protective of me, he won't let anyone hurt or insult me," answered Emma.

Miho just got better insight on her half-brother, "he is also very competitive, he might be nice and collective, but he can be a real loud mouth," said Emma going further.

The game started, both of them began hitting the arrows on the stage. Both of them mimicking each other's moves perfectly. On top of that they were getting perfects on the screen.

Nearby another foreigner watched with some annoyance, "yanks going at it, uncivilized," he said.

"They're both good," said a boy.

"That one boy has a nice ass," said a girl.

"This could go either way," said another boy.

Then the game got to the point of going real fast. Both of them were picking up speed. Then Jimmy slipped a little and getting out of his groove. Ryan took advantage and kept getting perfect after perfect. The one slip up messed Jimmy up.

"Kick his butt Ryan!," cheered Emma.

Miho could only smile.

Then the music began to slow down and came to a step, the game screen announcing the blue stage won.

Ryan stepped off the stage and Emma hugged him, "you were awesome bro," said Emma.

"Thanks Emma, hey Miho enjoyed the show?" asked Ryan.

"Hai," said Miho.

"Well I lost," said Jimmy taking off his hat, "I sincerely apologize to the all three of you."

"It's ok," said Miho.

"It's cool, maybe it wasn't the best since you've been dancing for over an hour before challenging me," said Ryan.

"Yep, I noticed, you folks from America also?" asked Jimmy.

"State of Georgia," said Ryan.

"Lone Star Texas," said Jimmy, "maybe I'll see you all around,"

"Yea," said Ryan.

"Alrighty, hope to see you three again," said Jimmy. Before he left, "one more thing, you three can call me Jim."

"Sure partner," said Ryan.

"Hmph," said Jimmy walking off.

Miho could not believe it, they were going at each other but then became friends, that was odd, must be an American thing. Then her stomach growled loudly. "Eh, heh, heh," as Emma and Ryan were staring.

"Well that dancing worked up an appetite for me," said Ryan.

"Yea let's get a bite," said Emma.

All of them went to the food court, Ryan got some Ramen, and Miho and Emma Udon. Sitting down an began to eat. "Ryan, what's it like in an Arrow Strike match?" asked Miho.

After taking a slurp of noodles, "well it's much faster, an a higher chance you can get shot, and the matches can get intense," said Ryan.

"Why do you fly?" asked Miho.

"Well my grandfather was a Flying Tiger, I wish to join the US Airforce to honor him and my father's legacy. After that through the Airforce, I want to join NASA and fly the stars," answered Ryan.

"That's a good goal," said Miho. "What about you Emma?"

"I don't know, I was thinking of giving Sensha-Do a try, you think I could make it?" asked Emma.

"You should, you have a talent for shooting," said Miho.

"Thanks Miho, so what will you do when you get to Ooarai?" asked Emma.

"Um?" Miho was thinking for a minute, she wanted to go, but she had the question hanging over her stomach. How was she going to ask the Captain. "Search for my Otou-san," she answered after sitting there for a minute.

"Your father?" asked Ryan.

"Yes, I believe my Otou-san is close, and after leaving Okaa-san. I have nowhere to go to but Ooarai. "I think I know where he is, but how do I ask him?"

"That's a tough one," said Ryan.

Miho and Ryan were contemplating that question, "you should ask him straight," said Emma. "I mean worst thing he can do is say I'm not your father, at least you can move on with your search after that."

Emma's words sank and seem to give Miho more confidence, "thank you Emma."

"Your welcome," said Emma.

"Best of luck," said Ryan.

Tsuneo's Apartment, Evening…

The three kids came in and settled down after having lunch, more shopping, and fun.

"That was fun," said Emma.

"Yea, Miho, thanks for hanging out with us," said Ryan.

"No thank you for bringing me along," said Miho.

The door came open and Tsuneo came in with a box of pizza, "hello I brought the pizza pie," he said.

"YEA! PIZZA!," said Emma, then she began to lose energy an almost collapse.

Miho immediately moved to catch her, "Emma you ok?"

"I'm fine just feeling tired," yawned Emma.

"Same with me," yawned Ryan.

"I guess both of long journey and fun have finally caught up to you, right eat a quick dinner and straight to bed both of you," said Tsuneo.

"Yes sir," they both said.

"Now, let's dig in, Miho did you have fun with my kids?" he asked.

"Hai," said Miho.

"Good, why don't you join us before I take you to Ooarai," said Tsuneo.

All of them sat down to eat some cheese pizza After that Emma and Ryan took turns in the bath. Tsuneo and Ryan helped put Miho's stuff in the truck.

"I'm going to miss you Miho," said Emma giving her a hug.

"Hope to cya around," said Ryan.

"Thank you both," said Miho.

"Miho, let's go," said Tsuneo.

"Hai," said Miho getting into the truck.

The truck drove off into the night, "well Miho, I shall give you my number in case you need further assistance. I'll gladly help you," said Tsuneo.

"Thank you for all your help Captain," said Miho.

The rest of the drive was rather silent, he was right there, she wanted to ask. Remembering Emma's words, Um Captain?"

"Yes Miho?" answered Tsuneo.

"Are you my Otou-san?" said Miho.

Tsuneo still keeping an eye on the road, shuttered and in disbelief, and yet he smiled as he hit the breaks and began to pull to the side of the road.
