ROADRUNNER
Another amazing day in the desert, well it would have been if Roadrunner was not bored.
Roadrunner sighed as she continued running through the familiar road that she had run for years. She lost count at how many times she had run around the desert, continuing on running to quench her boredom.
Why is she bored, you asked? Simple, Wiley is gone.
Yes. Thee Wile E. Coyote, who chased her for so many years, is gone.
And how did this happened? He decided to chase someone called Bugs Bunny.
Roadrunner stopped running for a moment to think. When she found out that her crush was planning to hunt someone else, she thought it was a nice change of pace.
On the first day without Wiley, she was able to run around anywhere without interference. No traps, chase, or anything related from Wiley. But, after a few hours, she learned a horrible truth. She got bored of running.
Without Wiley's attempts at catching her, the desert became quiet, and all of her enthusiasm was dashed away. All that's left are the roads and the scorching heat from the sun...
Roadrunner felt lonely... she never realized how much fun she had because of Wiley but now that he's gone...
Roadrunner looked around and sighed. She was forced to confront the truth that Wile E. Coyote, her predator, her rival, was all she had. She never made friends, never tried to interact with any Roadrunners. It was always Wiley and her, stuck in their own world of cat and mouse.
Sure, she can try to find a fellow Roadrunner to interact with or become her mate. But, she forgot how to interact with them. Despite never being in close proximity or engage Wiley in a conversation, she spent time with him for so many years that she learned how to understand Wiley's thoughts and feelings through body language or staring into his eyes. Furthermore, the fact that Wiley stole her heart makes her not interested in searching for a male roadrunner. Two harsh truths that she learned while Wiley is gone.
Roadrunner can't help but asked herself. Why did Wiley leave her for another prey? Who is this Bugs Bunny that got him to move very far away from her? She huffed at the thought of Bugs Bunny being a female. With a name like that? There's no way this Bugs Bunny is a she.
'But what if Bugs Bunny is a she?' a thought whispered in the back of her mind. Roadrunner became tense, her mind was filled with doubt and confusion. If it's true... she actually doesn't know what to do...
Roadrunner quickly shakes her head and decides to continue on her run. Wishing to herself that Wiley will return.
WILE E. COYOTE
Wiley is packing all of his stuff with a scowl on his face. That's it! He's done! Done with that blasted rabbit.
Never before had he suffered so much humiliation in his entire. He thought hurting himself trying to catch Roadrunner was humiliating, but he experienced a whole new level from Bugs Bunny. Bugs Bunny read his every move and gladly returned it to him twofold.
Sure, he can at least understand him. After all, he did come out of nowhere and announced his plan to eat him. However, the humiliation and pain were too much. His grudge for Bugs Bunny will last for a long time.
Wiley decided to call it quits. He let that bald human hunter have Bugs Bunny because he is going back to Roadrunner.
'Roadrunner...' Wiley thought to himself. He remembered his repeated failures with the bird and how the thought of chasing a new prey will give him a higher chance of success. But, as Wiley continues spending days trying to catch Bugs Bunny. He can't help but remember her from time to time.
And the image of her, her smile, her taunt... make him feel something that he didn't expect. 'I miss her...' Wiley thought soberly. He remembered his first meeting with her. How he looked at her filled with hunger, while her smile hidden the fear in her eyes. But as years passed by, Wiley now saw Roadrunner in a different light.
There is no hunger left. No grudge or desire for revenge. Just a want to catch Roadrunner with hidden respect for being his rival. His equal. For being with him, when not even his fellow coyotes want to spend time with a failure...
"No," Wiley whispered in defiance. He was never a failure. He knew Roadrunners were fast, but his Roadrunner defined speed to a new level. He never met any Roadrunner beside her. But he's sure as hell that no Roadrunner can outrun military missiles like his Roadrunner (Episode called Fur of Flying by Matthew O'Callaghan).
Don't forget that his failures ended up developing his pain tolerance and endurance to unnatural heights. Getting smacked in the wall used to hurt, but now a huge explosion or getting crushed by a rock is what can knock him out for good. He sometimes chased her with no gadgets for hours because he had run out of ideas.
Wiley will still find a way to get her back for it. Oh, how he remembers the smug look on Roadrunner's face. How she runs sometimes runs backward, giving him those smug smiles and winks. How she purposely slowing down to tease me, almost reaching but speeding up when I almost grabbed her neck. That chase always ends with her iconic taunt and immediately speeding away like a rocket...
Wiley immediately focused his thoughts on being called a failure. He's not a failure. 'Not yet.' Wiley thought to himself. He never caught the Roadrunner, but that doesn't mean he's out for good. The chase is not over yet because he is Wile E. Coyote. One who hasn't given in...
He has failed against Bugs Bunny, but his determination is still strong. Persevering Genius.
After he finished packing, he went out of his living space and noticed Bugs Bunny standing nearby.
"Hey. What's up doc," Bugs said while looking at Wiley with a lazy kind of wariness. "Don't have any plans for me? I was hoppin' you'll be willing to change this boring day."
"Well old chap, it looks like I am feeling homesick. So I am going to give this win to you," Wiley replied back, appearing composed.
Bugs Bunny slightly widened his eyes before replying, "I see... I guess this is goodbye, neighbor".
"Indeed, my friend. Any longer, and I would become a little angry." Wiley said with a menacing stare, body stilled like a hunter ready to jump.
He moves forward, never looking back. If Bugs felt any fear, he didn't show it. Simply staring at Wiley's back with eyes slightly more cautious than before.
While Wiley is making his way back home, he wonders how Roadrunner is doing. Is Roadrunner still running around? Happy that he's gone? Or she found a new hunter to chase her?
Wiley dismissed that thought. He's the one chasing that bird for years, only he deserves to catch her. She is his prey and no one else's.
ROADRUNNER
Roadrunner is on top of a cliff. It is currently afternoon, too early for Roadrunner to stop. But, since she's been doing nothing but run around the entire desert. Filled with disappointment and sadness for not seeing Wiley, she felt it was time to call it a day.
Before she could leave, she saw someone walking in the distance. To her immense joy, it is Wile E. Coyote. The sight of him brings her iconic smile back to life "MEEP-MEEP!"
With renewed energy, she ran from the top of a cliff towards the unsuspecting Wiley.
WILE E. COYOTE
Wiley didn't know what happened. At first, he was walking, then he felt a big smooch on his right cheek. After his vision was cleared, he saw Roadrunner with a blush on her cheek and a huge smile on her beak standing a few meters away from him.
Letting Wiley look into her blue eyes was all he needed to understand her. With a loud "MEEP-MEEP!", Roadrunner run away from him.
After watching Roadrunner run, remembering his repeated failure, it strangely reminded him of what they symbolize.
Him. Relying on Science to take him to victory. Meanwhile, Roadrunner represents the power of mother nature with the universe on her side by breaking the laws of physics against him.
Dismissing those thoughts for later, he first made sure that his stuff will not get stolen or lost. Because he has a bird to catch.
With a fire in his heart, he chased after his speedy rival. After all... it would be rude to ignore Roadrunner's message.
'I miss you. Come and get me.'
Plus, maybe he could get another kiss if he's lucky.
So the day where both had expected to end in painful failure and loneliness has become a day of regaining something important between the coyote and roadrunner.
