Okay, I tried to split this chapter up into two chapters. I could not find a stopping point. So be prepared. This is a long chapter, or this chapter is longer than I normally write. Read-Review. I need to know where you think I should take this story.
It won't be like this for long: Chapter 8
Chapter 8
Mr. Gordon was sitting the DVR back to before Taylor said Rory's name. When everyone got quiet again he started it back. Taylor again was listing all the properties he owns. When he finished the list Taylor said.
"I leave all to Lorelai Rory Leigh Gilmore Huntzbuger. I know that she will make sure this town never dies."
"What did he say?" Jess asked as Logan helped Rory sit down. "Did he say he is leaving the town to Rory?" Jess was almost in a panic. How could this happen?
"Mr. Gordon," Lane said standing up to get his attention. "I think maybe it will be best to discuss this in private." Logan nodded his head. He was beginning to understand. At least he thinks he does.
"Lane, bring him to the diner. I will go ahead and make sure it is empty." Jess left, while Hanna stayed. She knelt in front of Rory. Asking her questions, trying to bring her back into reality. Rory just has a look on her face. Logan kept having to tell her to breathe.
Lane grabbed Mr. Gordon and they headed to the diner. They had a crowd following them. Lane stopped in the road.
"Stop following. You are not coming to the diner. Rory and Mr. Gordon need to talk." Lane told them. They were all grumbling. "After this is straightened out, I will ask Rory to tell the town what is going on. Babette was standing on the back of Ms. Patty's electric wheelchair. Well, it was really a Round-a-bout. While Ms. Patty was leading the crowd.
"But she's Rory. We need to be with her. She has no mother." Babette said. Lane stopped again.
"Babette, you are not making any sense. She has a husband. But Rory is Rory, she can handle this." Lane said as she and Mr. Gordon continued toward the diner.
"I can't handle this Logan," Rory said. "He is crazy… How… How could he do this? Is it even legal?" Rory was a mess. Logan was walking her to the diner. He doesn't think she even knows she is walking. He had to get her out of that crowd.
When Rory and Logan got to the diner, Jess was making coffee, Hanna was helping. Lane was trying to get Mr. Gordon to sit down. Dave was standing at the counter waiting for the coffee cups, so he could put them on the table.
"I have always said this town is made up from the escapees of a mental institution," Dave said. Logan and Jess both said.
"That's what I say." Rory was pacing the floor, Logan was walking with her. He was afraid she would fall.
"Ace, come on, sit down. You are making me dizzy." Logan told her. She stopped and looked at him like it was the first time she realized he was standing there. She looked around the room, observing everyone.
"Jess, I want my coffee black. Do you think you could find me a muffin?" Rory said as she headed back toward the table Mr. Gordon was sitting at. "I got to pee," she said and walked toward the bathroom.
Everyone was quiet. No one said anything until Hanna busted out laughing. Everyone turned to look at her. Jess had this look on his face like really, you think that was funny. But then he started laughing.
When Rory returned from the bathroom the whole lot of them were laughing and talking. She had taken her time in the bathroom. After she used the facilities, she splashed water on her face and gave herself a pep talk.
"Was I that funny? Maybe that is what I should do, Be a comedian." Rory said as she grabbed Logan's hand and led him to the table. It was time to start the process of figuring this mess out. They had children at home.
"Mr. Gordon, I know, because I know Taylor, that this will not be resolved tonight, but I want to get started on figuring this out. We," she gestured between herself and Logan. "Have children at home that we need to get to bed. So, tell me, what has the crazy man done now?"
Everyone took a seat. Mr. Gordon looked around at the group. He wasn't sure he was supposed to talk about this in front of everyone.
"It's fine, I will tell them all about it anyway. You will just be saving me some time. Besides you have witnesses." Rory told him.
Mr. Gordon began: "Taylor came to my office for the first time about 10 years ago." Aston said. Lane interrupted him.
"Just where is your office. I have never heard of you." Lane said as the rest just nodded their heads in agreement.
"My main office is in Manhattan on 64th street. But I live in Bridgeport. My son runs the office in New York and I take on small cases. Personal cases, not all the cooperate. I had enough of that throughout my life." Lane told him to continue and she was sorry she interrupted.
"He was worried that Star Hollow would become a ghost town when he died. He gave me the information on all the properties that he owned in Stars Hollow. We discussed several things. The big-ticket items like the grocery store and the rental property. He told me he had a sister, but she did not live here. She did not like Stars Hollow and if he left it to her this town would become extinct. I suggested he leave the properties to several people in the town, people that loved Stars Hollow as he did." Mr. Gordon stopped. Observing the group of people sitting before him. Then the ones pushing up against the glass trying to see and hear.
"Just a little side note. After the first meeting with Taylor, I was intrigued by his tales of Stars Hollow so I had to visit. I must say, I have never seen anything like this before." Mr. Gordon said.
"Yeah, I had the same reaction the first time I visited," Logan said. Jess, Hanna, and Dave agreed.
"So we started organizing, before starting the Will. I suggested we meet the next time in Stars Hollow, I told him that I would like to visit and see what all the fuss is about. We agreed to meet the following week. That is when I met Lorelai Gilmore Danes. You couldn't come to Stars Hollow without having a Lorelai Gilmore Danes sighting. I believe it was during the 'Firefly' festival. Taylor and I worked on his Will. Afterward, I came in here to have a cup of coffee before I started back to Bridgeport." Aston had a smile on his face, He was remembering.
"Lorelai was begging Luke, the owner I soon found out, for a cup of coffee. He kept ignoring her. She was following him around with a huge cup. I later found out that he was her husband. I thought maybe she left her wallet or didn't have the money, so I offered to buy her a cup…..Well, that did not sit well with Mr. Danes." He was grinning now.
"She invited me to stay for the festival, of course, this was after I realized she was married and was not asking me to stay to be her date." Everyone snickers. "I stayed and enjoyed myself. At the next meeting with Taylor, he had to make a decision. He told me that he was afraid that if he left a piece to this one and a piece to that one, that Stars Hollow would be destroyed by greed." Now everyone in the diner was snickering louder. Taylor worried about someone else being greedy.
"I asked again if there was one person that he thought could keep his town as he wanted it? He told me, yeah, but he didn't know how to go about giving it to her and not have her grumpy husband ruin it. I asked him who and he told me about Lorelai. So I started doing research, had my son look into it and we finally came up with the wording that would allow Lorelai to inherit my properties, with certain provisions. So after almost a year, he had his Will. Then he insisted he record a message to everyone in the town." Everyone was listening so intently to what Aston was saying.
"Taylor called me the day your mother died." He said, looking at Rory. "By this time, I had gotten to know her and the rest of the characters in Stars Hollow. I wanted to live there, but I knew my wife would never move. I was sad. I had lost a friend. I was angry because I had not met her sooner. I saw you at the funeral, but you were in no shape to talk with someone you didn't know, so I left right after." He said.
"That is the way Lorelai was," Rory said quietly.
"Several months passed before Taylor came to my office to change his Will. I asked him if he knew who he wanted to replace Lorelai in his Will? He told me you." He said, looking at Rory. "He explained to me about your background. He told me of your love for Stars Hollow. He told me that you married a rich man, and he would help you make Stars Hollow better."
"Greed, Down to the last drop," Jesse said.
Everyone sat there for a few minutes, thinking about Lorela, thinking about Taylor, processing the whole thing.
Aston got up and walked to the counter. "If you would like, I can set up a meeting this week for you to sign all the paperwork." Logan looked over at him and started to speak, but Rory beat him to it.
"I will need a copy of everything. I want my lawyer to look over it." She reached in Logan's jacket pocket and pulled out his business card holder. She pulled out one of Logan's business cards, turned it over, writing her cell phone number on it. She handed it to him.
"This address in Hartford is where the copies need to be sent. My self or Logan are the only authorized signers for this package. We will give it to our Lawyer. Then we can set up a time to sign the papers. My cell phone is on the back of this card if you have any questions." Rory told him.
"Thank you, Mr. Gordon, for your kind words about my mother, and thank you for taking the time to explain all this to us." She stood up and shook his hand, then looked at the group. "Logan if we hurry, we can still make bedtime."
Logan gets up. Shakes Aston's hand. Then Jess' and Dave's. Rory was almost at the door. The group outside had thinned down, but there were still some towns folks outside.
"Guys, I trust you will not contribute to the gossip that is surely the talk of the town in the morning," Logan said. Before anyone could answer, Rory spoke up.
"You will have to tell them something. Tell them that the lawyers are working on it and that I will call a town meeting when the time is right." Everyone nodded.
Rory and Logan made it to the car. Logan shielded her from the townsfolks like he would if they were paparazzi. He knew how to do that.
On the way home Rory nor Logan talked about the meeting. They talked about the kids, They talked about Rory's new book. They discussed the possibility of Rory having an office at HPG, but they did not talk about Stars Hollow.
Well, what do you think? Rory now owns most of Stars Hollow. Will she become Mayor? Will she hand it over to the town? What does Kirk think about all this? Was Taylor Kirk's daddy? Lol. I just throw that last one in for a laugh. Let me know.
