Hello! We're doing a one-week challenge of Adventures in Narnia, since September 2022 is very far away. If anyone else feels like joining in, please do! I found it a lot of fun-if a bit of a challenge. :)
Prompt #1: A change of location does not negate character. Show one of the Four being royal in England, whether Magnificent, Gentle, Just, Valiant, or some other trait they needed as rulers.
"Edmund!"
Edmund, the king-that-formerly-was-and-always-would-be, refrained from rolling his eyes. But it was a close thing.
"Edmund!"
"In here," he called to his younger sister. Moments later Lucy came into the small study and threw herself into the chair opposite him.
Also being royalty-that-formerly-was-and-always-would-be, she did so, and then reminded herself to sit up completely straight. Edmund smiled to himself. They were indeed becoming children again. But that didn't negate the wisdom he'd learned during those years.
"Susan's right," he said without preamble. Lucy scowled at him.
"I haven't even told you what we're disagreeing about!"
"No," he agreed calmly, picking his book back up and beginning to read.
"If I didn't know you to be so incurably fair, I'd say you were taking her side," Lucy grumbled. But her tone held a note of honest question as well, and he laid his book back down.
"If the two of you disagreed and you knew you were right, you'd be hurt. If you disagreed, but you knew you were only partially right, you'd come asking for advice. But, Lu, if you storm into the study like a Dwarf on a bad day, it's a very clear sign that you already know she's right, and you don't want to give way yet." He studied his little sister. Her lips were already beginning to lift, and the furrows were clearing from the upset forehead. He smiled. Lucy was often the quickest to admit when she was wrong. It was something that had infuriated him before Narnia, but a character trait he deeply admired now.
"I'd better go say sorry, then." Lucy sighed, getting out of her chair and heading for the door.
"Lucy?" he called, stopping her in the hall outside. "What were the two of you arguing about?"
"About whether you read too much!" she answered, popping her head in the door. She laughed at his face. "About whether we're meant to be more than little girls now that we're back!"
I had a really long idea for this story, started writing it, and realised it would be nine chapters long.
So I saved it to my prompt list, and you got short nonsense instead, because I had no idea what to do after that idea scrapped itself. And then I procrastinated by watching Youtube videos for a couple hours. … sorry.
