It won't be like this for long: Chapter 12

Chapter 12

Rory called Lane Saturday night before it got too late. Between Roy and Lane, they get in touch with the employees of the Ice Cream Shoppe, Dorsey's, and the Stars Hollow Gazette. Everyone was meeting at the Dragonfly Sunday morning. She had to also call Michel.

When Logan and Rory got to the Dragonfly, they had a section of the dining room roped off for their meeting. Rory thanked Michel. Of course, Michel told Logan that he needed a raise.

"Now that Little Lorelai owns Stars Hollow, I will have to put up with her and the rest of the townsfolk invading the Inn," Michel told Logan.

Logan laughed at Michel. Logan was the one that made him Manager of the Draganfly. Rory was in no shape to make any kind of decision. But Rory is the one in charge. Logan is just here for moral support.

When everyone was gathered, Rory asked everyone to take seats. She had asked Michel to have the Chef prepare refreshments, a brunch of sorts. They all grabbed a seat. Rory noticed Michel hanging close to the meeting.

"Michel, would you like to join us. I could include you in this discussion. I thought that you and I have a good understanding of the management of the Draganfly. But if you would like to be included in this new collaboration, come in and have a seat." Rory said. Michel stepped back to his office. He didn't know what Rory was going to do, but he liked the setup he had with her about the Dragonfly.

Rory took a seat at the head of the table. Logan took the seat to the right of her and Lane was seated on the left. Rory and Lane talked last night. Lane agreed to be the liaison between Rory and the Stars Hollow Collaboration. She, Logan, Dave, and Lane met before this meeting in Lane and Daves home. Lane signed a contract and discussed the plans for Stars Hollow. There is an abandoned apartment being used for storage above the Gazette. It has a separate entrance from the Gazette. Lane is going to get Tom to renovate it for an office for her.

Rory got everyone's attention. She explained that Dorsey's and the Ice Cream Shoppe will be open Monday.

"After much discussion, I am opening Dorsey's at 6:00 in the morning. Because it has been closed for a week, it will not be operating at full capacity." Rory looked around the room. "Marlyn Greene?" Rory said, looking around the room. Marlyn raised her hand. She wasn't sure what Rory wanted but she was Marlyn Greene.

"If you will, I would like for you and Lane to move to another table. Lane will talk with you about managing Dorsey's" Rory said as Lane gathered her paperwork and stepped away from the table. Marlyn followed Lane.

"What about us?" a familiar-looking lady asked, waving her hand between herself and two guys.

"Do you work at Dorsey's?" Rory asked. All three nodded their heads. "Okay, if you are interested in continuing to work at the grocery store, have a seat back here," Rory said motioning toward a table next to the window. "Lane and Marlyn will be with you as soon as they are finished. The three of them moved to sit at the other table.

"Who works at the Ice Cream Shoppe?" Rory asked. One person held up her hand. Rory looked at her.

"My name is Alma. During this time of the year, it was only Taylor and me. When the weather warms up, he usually hires teenagers to help." Alma looked like she was pushing 65 years old. "He would have the stock boys from the grocery store come to help straighten up. Or change out the Ice Cream tubs." Alma said.

"Are you interested in continuing to work?" Rory asked. She looked at Rory, then put her head down.

"For the same money?" She asked meekly. Rory looked at her. Rory was thinking. She looked at Logan. He was looking at his phone. Anyone watching would think he was bored and not paying attention, but she knew better. He had not missed a word.

"Negotiable," Logan said quietly without looking up. Rory nodded.

"If you think you will be interested, we can negotiate your salary," Rory said. She smiled and nodded her head. "You can wait with the others for Lane to finish." Rory looked around the table. Two people remained with the exception of her and Logan.

"I'm sorry, I don't know your names," Rory said looking at the two people sitting at the table. The gentleman stood up.

"My name is Randall Bridges and this is my wife Cassandra. We own a real estate company in Bridgeport. We would like to hand your rental properties. 'Bridge to your Future'" He told her, offering his hand for her to shake. She shook his hand.

"Well, Mr. Bridges, I planned on looking into a real estate company or a rental company to handle the rental properties. If you and your wife would like to be considered, leave us a portfolio and we will consider it." Rory said with a smile.

Mrs. Bridges handed a folder to Mr. Bridges and he gave it to Rory. She thanked him and they left.

Rory sat back down and let out a deep breath. Logan looked up from his phone and smiled at her.

"Now, it was not that bad was it?" He asked. Rory just shook her head, leaned over, and kissed him. She then gathered up her paperwork and went to take a seat next to Lane.

Rory told Lane that she would be sending an accountant to go over the books in both the grocery store and the Ice Cream Shoppe. She also told Lane to get Tom on the renovations of her office as soon as possible. Dave volunteered the office at the music store until renovations were finished.

After everything was settled that could be settled on a Sunday morning, Logan and Rory left Stars Hollow. Rory would have to hit the floor running in the morning. She was tired. On the short drive home, she told Logan that she thought they accomplished a lot more than she anticipated. She was too tired to think anymore. Any decision that needs to be made tonight was on him. Her brain hurt.

"That is fine with me." He told her. "I already made a few decisions for the rest of the afternoon." Rory laughed as Logan wiggled his eyebrows at her.

"Yeah I bet you have," She said. She rested her head on the headrest with her eyes closed. It was just past noon and she felt like she had worked all day. She does remember being this tired when she worked at the Times chasing down stories.

When they pulled up to the gate it was open. Logan was shaking his head. How many times has he told them to close the gate? What is the use of having a gate if you are going to leave it open?

Logan's fusing got Rory's attention. She was looking around. She spotted Mitchum's car.

"Your dad's here," she said. Logon looked where she was pointing and she could see the tail of his car parked on the other side of the garage. Now Logan's brain was hurting.
