Entry 13: Kelp Nymphs

Beginning AN:

Please let me know if, in any chapter, you come across any inconsistencies or mistakes. 'Ya don't even need to be polite about it. Because this is somewhat difficult to search through and edit. For one thing in particular, for the early chapter outlines I had "Description" instead of "Comment" for what the Trio wrote up and I might have slipped by in changing some of those.

"What are we here for?" Vince asked, treading water out in the shallows of the beach. Sonata was there too, facing him the entire time.

"What do you think? I'm here to get some seaweed. It's useful for making the Ocean Mixer. Why did you think I was killing all those sharks back there too? It's a nice weapon. That looks like an eggbeater if I craft it right, according to Trent? Eh..." She shrugged.

"I thought you killed the sharks for fun."

"Well that too, but-"

They heard splashes surrounding them.

Oh no Kelp Nymphs were around them, an army of blueish green, soaking Nymphs (and one Satyr, a rare sight) forming a circle - yeah at that point Vince wasn't even really surprised any more.

Sonata on the other hand gasped.

"Shouldn't you be underground or something?!" She asked. "Seriously, I thought you were all banished below the caves! How are we seeing you on the surface?!"

"Naw that's you I'm afraaaaaid..." One of them - who instantly swam to the duo - said. "Hon it's just the Oreads that were banished to the caves. We can go either way and we're going here and we want to eat you."

"I'm one of you guys, you dumbasses!" Sonata told them. "Why do you keep trying to kill me too?! I mean Vince I can understand but-"

"HEY!"

"Oh, come on! I'm not defending them! And as for you seafolk-" She wasn't sure where to look. So she kind of spun around in place. "-For once I'm not looking for Nymphs to add to my Naked Empire! Just crafting material!"

"...You were looking for those other Nymphs on purpose?" Vince asked her.

"Yeah uh duh."

The Kelp Nymph that swam to them approached Sonata closely. Lust was very obviously not her intent, but Sonata still got a little fired up. Vince on the other hand, meh.

"What, do you really think two different types of Nymphs can get along?" She said, drawing a finger across Sonata's neck. "You should be lucky, you're the common folk and you've got a shot at Lindsey making you anything higher than a slave."

"No she doesn't." Vince cut in.

Sonata, meanwhile, went for the first part of her statement: "Magma. Volt. Ocean. All three of them moved in to my new fortress, and they were kind of friends."

"Stop talking Algara!" Another Kelp Nymph said. "Let's get our FEAST!"

She and three others in the circle lept out of the water to gun for the Human and Oread. Algara rolled her eyes and waved a hand, making clumps of seaweed stretch up from below and smack all four of them back down in to the waters. With a few more hand motions, some more seaweed formed a nice platform for the pair of adventurers to rest on. Sighing, she folded her arms on the new bed she made and purposefully posed herself with her breasts atop them.

"I'm interested. What is this 'fortress...?'"

Kelp Nymphs.

The most dangerous part of the Kelp Forest environment is being tangled in the kelp itself. Because that hooks you as easy prey for the aquatic Nymphs that swim and feast.

Preferred Environment: Kelp Forest.

Environment Threat Level: Calm.

Environment Stats: Underwater. Warm. Mundane. Semicommon. Large gatherings of kelp and other seaweed, usually in the shallows of oceans. May rarely appear underground under the right conditions.

Other Names: Seaweed Nymphs, Algae Nymphs, Kelp Forest Nymphs.

Affinity: Water.

Color: Bright Sea Green.

Traditional Costume Weapon: Small bands of seaweed, usually around their wrists and one by their stomachs. Helps with enabling manipulation of seaweed/algae types, manipulating water/oxygen within, and general movement through water beyond their natural swimming abilities.

Vince's Comment: Oh, we're finally on the first aquatic one on the list! Their homes remind me of a video game I played as a child. Such nostalgia. I wish I could get rid of the memories of some of their guards clawing me. Ow. The biome's normally relaxing, but it's just... really hard to see. Green water. Green water everywhere.

Sonata's Comment: Stop telling them or anybody else or especially ME to wrap seaweed bikinis around ourselves! Yes, that IS a violation of Rule #1! That's more of Tania's thing, anyway! I saw her doing that. She tries to deny it, but I know... Also the seaweed there is really, really tasty. I like it.

Tania's Comment: Kelp Nymphs.
Nymphae Alga.
Hidden within any point of a sufficiently warm ocean lies the deep forests of vines. The patron Nymphs of these ecosystems guard their essential algae with their lives, forming communities based on seaweed species. While they are the many variants of Nymph types that can breathe under water (which is almost all of them... my kind being one of the few exceptions), Kelp Nymphs thrive at their best in highly oxygenated water, and at optimal conditions from the seaweed they keep close watch over. Relatedly, they are quite fond of ice cream.
SEAWEEDS ARE ALSO NOT PLANTS.

Closing AN:

I'm not taking biome suggestions, by the way. I want to challenge myself by only either fitting vanilla biomes or making up my own. Also, there won't be any biomes specifically taken from mods, but there will be some that are partly inspired by modded biomes. (No mods are canon to the Zenith Nymph series unless by some low chance they get the Isaac: Antibirth treatment and get hired and added to the official game. Tmodloader being free DLC does not count.)

Also "Kelp Forest" was one of the earliest ideas I had for a fan-biome in Terraria. Yeah, random one Ocean would be like a "regular Ocean," the other would be this very seaweed-heavy one, moreso than the actual kelp stalks in the game itself. Because quantity over quality, I'm prioritizing making up new biomes rather than giving existing ones more features and lore and stuff. (Like making a seperate Canyon biome, even after knowing about the "canyon"-ish pattern in the Desert biome background. I mean, in my dumb fantasy thing the Canyon's just an alt to the Desert in a way anyway.)
