Entry 14: Gust Nymphs
Beginning AN:
For some reason anything air-related puts the song "Voices of Feelings" from Epic Battle Fantasy 5 in my head. (Yeah this even went with thinking about Book 1 of Korra.) I don't think it's suitable for this chapter, but you're welcome if you've played that game and this song gets stuck in your head.
Iris kept a good hold on to her scissors - not that they would help her at all considering what was about to happen.
Vince and, with considerably more rushing and panting later Sonata, finally caught up to her.
"It's now or never!" He said.
Iris ignored prior advice she got - and from Trent of all people - and looked back. Yep. A huge hoard of blue-green Nymphs racing at them with the speed of the wind, coming up from one of the hills of the jade-tinted valley. Iris then looked around, to the other hill. Way in the distance she could recognize the Corruption patch in the island's Tundra, the closest landmark she recognized that was close to home.
"This is insane!" She said. "This is in-SANE! And NONE of you have Lucky Horseshoes?!"
"RULE 1!" Sonata shouted, bent over with her hands on her knees. "That's my excuse! Vince was just too lazy to fish one up! Now, I'll help, on three, we-"
Vince already dove off and opened his glider. Both Iris and Sonata stared in his direction.
"...Okay," said Sonata, "fuck him-"
Iris finally swallowed and jumped down to the valley, opening her own glider.
"Are you really just gonna abandon me?!" She shouted. Even though she knew they couldn't hear her. "After how I would have killed you but DIDN'T?! I don't understand why- okay yeah I understand."
And she went after them, right as the Gust Nymphs reached the peak.
...
The Gust Nymph at the lead of the group just rolled her eyes and stuck a hand out.
Boom. Boom. Boom. Wind bolt, wind bolt, wild bolt. Hit all three gliders. Sent them spiralling to the ground - but enough to purposefully keep them alive. The Gust Nymph herself took her out glider out and went after them, doing a triple backflip just for show.
She landed right by them and laughed.
"You DUMBASSES!" She boasted. "Did you really think that flying away from someone who can control AIR is a good idea?!"
"In all fairness," said Sonata, "I'm the only one who did, these two at least just went with it because nobody else could come up with any other idea."
Gust Nymphs.
Feel a breeze gently blowing on your neck when near the teal caves, and be on guard. It could be the Nature Spirts of the Gusts, trying to get your attention.
Preferred Environment: Gust Valleys/Gust Caves.
Environment Threat Level: Moderate.
Environment Stats: Moist. Cool. Moderate on the mundane-fantastic scale. Uncommon. Vast valleys and open caves known to have a lot of wind coursing through them.
Other Names: Wind Nymphs, Air Nymphs, Gust Nymphs, Valley Nymphs, Sylphs.
Affinity: Wind.
Color: Bright Teal.
Traditional Costume Weapon: They are able to "fashion windy grass" around themselves, small blades that can generate rings of wind around them, typically around their legs, with patterns forming on their backs. They look like green-tinted "bands" in constant motion. Predictably, this helps them control the wind and pretty much fly.
Vince's Description: Windy days in the forest are bad enough! But a region that's all storm and breeze?! If any of these are pissed off at me, and of course they are, they come at you FLYING! "Tied to the air?" No, no, no, they should be under "earth affinity" or whatever it is Tania keeps saying. They hit you like a ROCK. Like a boulder, even.
Sonata's Description: Nymphs normally cannot fly but these are some of the closer exceptions of the bunch. They have these gliders that they use to go down and through their valleys. That also have this really pretty blueish green grass, I like it. It looks like the Wilds, just with less giant tigers and shit trying to maul you because you're using a stick to defend yourself instead of your own teeth and nails. You're probably wondering: Do they engage in flight sex? Yes. All Nymphs that usually do any sort of flight whatsoever do that. Which became all Nymphs since we killed that big block of meat and wings became a lot easier to make, you just have to kill these dumbass white snake things. No, I would not advise trying flight sex on your own. By the way, whether or not wings violate Rule #1 depends on the type of wings. I should know, I am a certified expert on Rule #1.
Tania's Description: Gust Nymphs.
Nymphae Ventus.
Among the lightest of all the Nymph types, the Warriors of the Gust Valleys take freedom as their general philosophy, and even their very nature of being able to both utilize and fly against the winds reflects this. This is a double-edged sword: Some see this as a fight for the path of choices and to be one's self, others see it as a way to bring forth chaos on humanity. Regardless, the wind nor any of their patron Nymphs should never be underestimated. At the very least, they are excellent at keeping their valleys clean.
Closing AN:
I realized I hadn't been making much use of the other NPCs - I mean the Zoologist was the only one to show up so far, not coutning Tania of course since she's definitely a main character - so I'm working on fixing that a little. Also yet another RTLD "preview fun fact," Iris the Stylist is the first NPC Vince and Sonata will encounter. Super early on.
The reason why I stuck with green being used to represent wind basically came from me being dumb and guessing weird shit from pre-release Pikmin 3 materials. But I kinda like the idea of jade-green/teal/whatever "windy valleys" as their biome, this stuck.
"Fan Terraria has so many enemies and the like why are you making up more of them" well there aren't that many naked enemies that aren't like skeleton monsters or whatever. Besides I personally think it would be... kind of off to edit existing enemies to become attractive women or whatever. I mean, yeah, I normally like seeing that sort of thing to be honest, but... as you could probably tell from how these mini-stories and the entries aren't just all sex, sex, sex, I want this to have an actual story. And in my opinion it would be more out of place to just kind of humanize random enemies...? I don't know.
Again. This is partially "practice" for some more original stuff. Ideally a "replacement" and/or "do-over" for Hexadecisland.
