It won't be like this for long: Chapter 18
Chapter 18
Logan wanted to go with Rory to Stars Hollow. They picked Hayden up on the way. Logan dropped Rory off at Lane's office and he and the twins went to Luke's for lunch. The bell over the door rang as they walked into a crowded diner. Jess looks up when they come in the door. He nods at them and points to a table in the back.
It wasn't long before Kwan came to take their order.
"Uncle Logan, What's up? Mom said Aunt Rory would be in town today." Kwan said.
"Yeah, she is meeting with Aunt Lane," McKenzie said. She has a crush on Kwan.
"What'll be?" Kwan asked. The three of them ordered. As soon as Kwan went to place their order, Kirk approached the table. He just stood there. Waiting.
Right after Logan and Rory reunited they were in Stars Hollow visiting. Kirk did not like Logan. He was afraid the town folks would like Logan better than himself. This caused several problems. Lorelai finally told Kirk that Logan was the Mafia and he controlled everything. After that when Kirk approached Logan, he waited to be acknowledged. When Rory found out, she told Kirk Logan was not in the Mafia. Kirk wouldn't believe her.
"Kirk, Can I help you with something?" Logan asked. He likes playing along with Kirk.
"Sir, I was wondering if I could sit here," Kirk asked, still standing at attention.
"Why do you want to sit?" Logan asked, winking at McKenzie who was looking at Kirk. She, along with most people, thought he was weird.
"I would, with your permission, like to talk with you about Rory," Kirk said. Logan motioned for him to take a seat. KIrk took a seat. He started asking Logan questions. He wanted to know if Rory was moving back to Stars Hollow and If she did would she kick Jess and Hanna out of her house. Or was she moving into the space above the Gazette? He wanted to know if she was going to be the ice cream princess this year if not could Lulu? Logan turned him out after about a 3-minute rant. He could talk faster than Lorelai. MaKenzie answered most of his questions and he left.
Back in Lane's office, Rory and Lane were talking about the renovations to her new office.
"Lane, I love this. How has it been going?" Rory asked.
"Great. I have been busy. If I have to leave the office, I put a sign on the door with my cell number on it. At this point, I don't think I will need a secretary. Steve has been helping out some. He and Kwan are trying to save up to rent a house together. They found a car they liked but decided they would take the bus to school. Renting a house would be a better way to spend their money. Dave is renovating the attic at the music store. They don't know it, but he will be renting it to them. At a reasonable price." Lane said.
"Are they both still working at the music store?" Rory asked while feeling the soft leather sofa, then walking to the windows and looking out across the town. You could see the whole town from here.
"Do you think Taylor knew that the whole town was visible from here? I can even see the Dragonfly." Rory told Lane as Lane joined her at the windows.
"My guess would be yes," Lane told her. "Come sit at the table and let me show you what I have done." Lane said.
Rory and Lane sat at the table. Lane explained the spreadsheet on the computer. She showed her the summary report of the activities involving her holdings. Lane told her that she could present this to her weekly or monthly. Lane took some business classes after she and Dave bought the Music store. Rory told Lane to send Parker a copy of the summary every Monday morning and She or Parker will meet with her once a month. Lane was taking notes.
"One more piece of business, then we can go meet Logan and the twins at Luke's," Lane told Rory. She pulled out a folder from her desk and opened it up.
"Taylor's birthday is in a few weeks. The town wanted to hold a Taylor Doose festival to honor Taylor's birthday and his love for this town." Lane said.
"That sounds great. Make sure Parker knows when it is so it can be put on my schedule….spend what you need. We need to come up with a booth for the twins to run. I will double what is made at the festival. We will start a Taylor Doose Scholarship fund. The festival will be an annual event. We will give away several scholarships for High School Seniors each year. Seniors will have to write an essay or something. I will come up with the rules." Rory was getting excited.
Lane was steady writing everything down. Rory was spitting out ideas. Rory told Lane to be sure and use Steve and Kwan as much as she can and to pay them well. She also told her that she will be sending Mia after school to help. After all was finished, Lane and Rory headed to Luke's to meet up with Logan and the kids. Lane told Rory that the new Selectman was out of town and she would introduce them later.
After eating, they visited the Dragonfly on the way home. Because of the condition Rory was in after Lorelai and Luke's accident, Logan stepped in. He has been handling the business end of the Dragonfly. Rory explained to Michel about the Taylor Doose festival so that he could have extra staff on hand.
When they left the Dragonfly, they headed to Hartford. Mitchum called earlier and wanted the family to meet at his house for supper. They still had plenty of time before they needed to be there.
This chapter is a little short, but I had to split this chapter and the next up. The next chapter will be a little long.
