Entry 16: Spring Nymphs

Beginning AN:

(One of) the hot springs chapter(s)! Whoo!

To be a bit more serious, a while after I posted Entry 15 I went back and editted Entry 13 to actually have the rarity, temperature, description of the biome, and the description of how the "costume" accessory thingy actually helps them out. I promise I'll give some of the earlier chapters the same treatment.

Sonata and Vince were just relaxing in the bubbling springs. Surrounded by cyan Nymphs all over, and with a few other guests...

Iris, Mollie, and Nurse Madeline were all looking at each other nervously. On the opposite end of the warm mountain spring from Vince and Sonata. They were still surrounded by other Nymphs, and had considered swimming straight across to meet up with them. Just as a little safety net. Everybody was nude, unsurprisingly. As usual for Nymph Variants, even the Spring Nymphs did not have their 'biome power accessories.'

"So um... why are you trying so hard to get with the Nymphs...?" Mollie asked.

"Yeah. Good question." Replied Madeline. "I mean there's lots of Human women and... men? That're a lot less dangerous to woo. If Nymphs were the sort of thing in those books that just line up and loooove to have sex with anybody who opens the door for them, then yeah, you'd just be creeps looking for someone easy. But it feels like you're doing the exact opposite of that."

"They're deadly." Said Iris. "Vince, I've known you the longest. Of us Humans here. Remember, Sonata tried to kill us when we first met."

Sonata shrugged. "Well, I am a Nymph. And I got with a lot of other Nymphs of my own type. I didn't really start 'branching out' - haha tree pun - to the Variants until Igniss, Fulgra, and Aquafla just showed up after I made my house. And then I rolled with it and it worked out.

"But also, you Humans are fucking prudes. It's all" for the following quote-within-quote she looked up, held her hands up, and started wriggling around her fingers. She also turned back to her human disguise, after being green and red the whole time, "'Ooooh, don't look at me in a braaaaa, I'm soooo ashamed, help me, help me...' like you know, my 'Lost Girl' persona, that's my impersonation of you. Naked-hating pussies. Nymphs are all about dat sweet, sweet free love, except the Dryads, but they're traitors."

The Spring Nymphs about them all gave hearty laughs. One of them in particular patted Sonata on the back.

"You have that right!" She said, and the two started lightly splashing at one-another. "If we even see that Dryad... well, we're not gonna kill her, because then the zombies will take over the world, but we'll make her feel ashamed!" And she realized something. "For... feeling... ashamed?"

"So yeah, I like my women and men with balls and Nymphs tend to have balls more often than Humans, so there. Forgive me for not being fond of 'Ooooooh you need to spend four years where we can't see each others' shoulders this is sooo romantic' yeah no."

"And you?" Mollie asked Vince.

Vince shrugged. "I'm a horny bastard with a fetish for monster women. Even if they are more 'monster' than the books taught me. I mean, I'm not dead, so this is worth it."

Madeline shook her head. "You're all insane."

"We're bathing naked with you right now!" Said Iris. "I don't know what you mean, we're even going to join your weird... 'Naked Empire.' We're not all prudes!"

"Okay when I say 'human,'" said Sonata, "I don't mean all humans, I actually mean..."

The following went on for a bit.

Spring Nymphs.

The healing hot springs of Terraria are guarded by fierce and tough Nymphs. They will happily soak with people - if they meet their high standards.

Preferred Environment: Hot Spring.

Environment Threat Level: Beneficial.

Environment Stats: Wet. Hot. Moderate-Mundane.

Other Names: Health Nymphs, Healing Nymphs, Soak Nymphs, Bathers.

Affinity: Water.

Color: Bright Cyan.

Traditional Costume Weapon: Controlled "wisps of steam" typically wrapped around their arms and legs. Channels healing magic, temperature change (mostly heating) of certain objects, and commanding mineral-rich waters to a lesser extent.

Vince's Comment: The first "beneficial" biome on the list... one of the few and far in-between. I'm noticing this "inverse relationship" between how peaceful the biome is and how much its Nymphs want to kick your ass. They're no exception. Somehow, they take a spring associated with a nice, good warm soaking, and can beat you in several ways with it. Yeah, it turns out you can hurt with "healing magic." If only it was easy to heal with hurting magic... I mean, I guess you can drink out of a Water Bolt? No, no, that's a stupid idea...
...By the way, I don't know why Healing Potions aren't cyan. They should be.

Sonata's Comment: HUMANS TAKE NOTE! These Nymphs are PRO. CO-ED. BATHING. All Nymphs usually are! Except the damn Dryads! Please follow after THEIR mature model! The women do NOT freak out at the sight of a penis! The men do NOT freak out at the sight of a vagina! HOT SPRING EPISODES DONE RIGHT DAMMIT!

I need to vent a little about a minor pet peeve of mine: Naming. It is easy to confuse them with the season of spring, thanks to the geographical feature being given the same name. Well, regardless. This Nymph Variant has exceptional regeneration on top of already having an innate connection with the waters of the world that flow with the healing lifeblood of Mother Nature. This makes them ideal combatants, durable to both physical force and illness. Their main weakness is extreme environments that are outside their own, but this is something common to all types of Nymphs. (It makes having a place where Sonata's entire "Naked Empire" can gather... rather inconvenient.)

Closing AN:

By the way I would not consider any vanilla/canon biome "Beneficial" on this scale. Maybe the Hive mini-biome (and again, that's less of a "biome" and more of a "structure") since it has healing honey, but... yeah I think that's about it. So "Beneficial" is something "new."

Also I believe this is the first chapter with more than one (vanilla/canon) NPC, even counting the Dryad.

Even though it's easy to throw on "fanservice" here this mini-story didn't have much. I should make a list of mini-fics to "fix." It'll definitely have to take some time, likely after either the whole series is over or all the roughs are done, because I don't just want some sloppy "By the way, boobs" shit plastered in. This might be hard to believe considering the general type of story this is, but I have standards. I'm not exactly the type to worship something Because Boobs, and I really don't want my stories to just get a pass for bad writing and poorly-handled erotic moments Because Boobs.
