It won't be like this for long: Chapter 23

Chapter 23

Rory and Mia met Steph at Le'Quine for lunch. Rosemary was out of town. They enjoyed lunch. Rory had a couple more meetings this afternoon. Steph was free for the rest of the day so she and Mia went shopping. Steph did have any girls to buy for.

Rory was still in a meeting with Whitney when Logan and the twins surprised Rory by showing up at P&CP. Logan joined the meeting. Whitney was agreeable to the terms. She was thankful for the opportunity.

Everyone met back at the apartment. Steph, Collin, Andy, and Charles joined them for take-out. While they were eating Mia told everyone about her shopping trip with Steph. She asked her mom if they could go shopping while they were here. Rory told her they would talk about it later.

Hayden told them about Mak almost getting sick on the Helicopter. Mak told them it was because she had just eaten an ice cream sandwich. Andy told Hayden to stop picking on MaKenzie. They all got a laugh out of that.

Collin asked Mia what her thoughts were about being in the meeting with Rory. Mia just shrugged her shoulders.

"She would rather be shopping than sitting in boring meetings all day," Rory said.

"She needs to realize those boring meetings affords her the luxuries she enjoys," Logan told her.

"Actually, I enjoyed watching Mom in work mode. I have seen her at the house when she was on the phone or even when she had meetings in her office, but I think this is the first time I watched her be a Boardroom Mom." Mia said. Rory was smiling. "I have seen and heard Dad in Boardroom mode many times, but never Mom. I was proud of her." Mia said.

"Well since you will be working in the office for a while, maybe you will get to see Boardroom Mom more," Logan told her.

"Mia, what did you do. Having to work already. Come on Logan, don't tell me you have blown through your millions." Collin said with a laugh.

"Her employment started off as punishment, but we decided that it was a good idea for her to learn about hard work. I had everything given to me. If I had not met Rory, someone that made me stop and look at my life, I don't know where I would be. That goes for you too Collin. If we had not met Rory. If Rory had not shown us the life we could have, would you be where you are now?" Logan asked.

"Yeah, you are probably right. I would like to think that Steph and I both came to the realization together, but I know that Rory's influence had a lot to do with the way our lives are now and the way we are raising our children." Collin told them. Steph nodded her head in agreement.

Friday morning Logan worked out of the home office till about 10:00. After that, they all went to the zoo. Rory forgot how exhausting it was to walk that much. The twins were having a ball. So was Logan. She even noticed Mia smiling a time or two.

When they got back to the apartment after eating hotdogs and hamburgers at the zoo, The kids retreated to their room to do their school work. Rory had arraigned for their assignment to be emailed. This is one of the privileges of going to a private school. Business trips were common.

Saturday they were up early again. This time they all went to Cozzy Kitchens for breakfast before heading to Central Park. They rented bikes and just enjoyed the cool air. After stopping to get tacos from a street vendor, they stopped by Sak's. Logan surprised them with tickets to Hamilton. The ladies had to have new dresses. Logan had a tux at the apartment, but Hayden outgrew his tux.

Logan and Hayden were standing in the living room of the apartment waiting for Rory, Mia, and McKenzie. Hayden was pacing around the room. He tried to sit down but was afraid he would wrinkle his pants.

"Dad, can't you hurry them up?" Hayden whined. Logan laughed.

"Son, you need to get used to this," Logan told him. About that time, MaKenzie came down the stairs. "Wow, my baby girl has grown up. You look, beautiful sweetheart." Logan told McKenzie.

"Thanks, Daddy, You look handsome," she said with a smile, then she grinned at Hayden. "So do you." Hayden just nodded. He was going to ask how much longer for his mom and Mai, but before he could. Mak interrupted him.

"Aren't you going to tell me I look good too? She asked Hayden. He looked at her and nodded.

"Yeah, you do...How much longer before Mom and Mia are ready?" He said. Logan looked at him shaking his head and mumbling something under his breath as he headed upstairs to see how much longer it would be.

Before he could get to the top of the stairs, Rory came out of their bedroom. She looked spectacular. He knew he was a lucky man. Rory is intelligent, well-read, pose, could carry on a conversation with the likes of Kirk or Prince William and everyone in-between. This was a rarity in society, But to have all of that and to look the way she did, sometimes he does appreciate his wife enough. Tonight, he would.

"My beautiful wife. One day my son will see his wife coming down the stairs and forget why he was annoyed." Logan told Rory.

"You were annoyed that I was running late?" She asked as he gave her his arm to walk down the stairs.

"No, not me. I learned a long time ago. But you son. He still has a while to go." Logan told her. Rory laughed.

When they got to the bottom of the stairs, Hayden told his mother how beautiful she was. But before she could thank him, he asked how much longer.

"Hayden, the car is downstairs, go, we will follow." Logan said "take MaKenzie with you. MIa!" he yelled up the stairs. "We are going to get in the car. It is waiting at the lobby door. Five minutes or we leave without you." Logan said. He smiled at Rory as he helped her on with her coat. "Mia, don't forget your coat. It is cold outside tonight." He added as they headed for the door.

They had just got settled in the limo when Mia came out the lobby door. Of course, she was gorgeous. Logan told her so. And upon prompting so did Hayden. Logan thought she had on too much makeup, but he decided that was a fight for another time. After all, this is New York.

When they arrived at the theater, Logan was helped out of the car by the driver, in return helped MaKenzie, Mia, then Rory out. Hayden got out on his own. They were standing in the lobby of the theater waiting for the usher to take them to their seats. Logan helped Rory off with her coat. He then took his off.

"Hayden, you and Mia take the coats to the coat check. We will wait for you here." Logan told him, handing him his and Rory's coats.

"I am not a baby. I can go by myself." Hayden said. McKenzie took her coat off and gave it to Hayden. He still had his on and he looked like sheep that had not shed his wool yet.

"Come on Hay, I will go with you. You look like you might trip and fall." Mia said, pulling on the collar of his coat.

The usher was talking with Logan when Hayden got back from the coat check. He didn't want to interrupt, but he had to tell his dad something important. Mia was not too far behind.

"Good you are back. Let's head to our seats." Logan said and he was ushering his family toward the door.

"Dad!" Hayden said in a whisper. Rory had Logan's arm. Mia and McKenzie were in front of him. When Logan stopped to see what Hayden wanted, Rory almost fell.

"Hayden, What is it?" they were whispering now because they just entered the theater.

"Mia's dress is too short. I didn't notice it until she took her coat off." Hayden said. Logan looked toward Mia. Yes her dress was a little shorter than he would like, but it was not indecent.

"Hayden, son, I am glad you are protective of your sisters. Thank you for watching out for them. I will talk with her." Logan said. Hayden nodded and continued to his seat.

Logan leaned toward Rory. "Just wait until McKenzie starts dressing like that. We may have to send him away to boarding school." Logan said laughing.

"I don't think so," Rory said. "But this could be fun." They were both laughing.
