Entry 39: Pond Nymphs

"GET BACK HEREEEE!" Shouted Tania.

She ran across the shallows of the pond system, holding a net of all things. A Golden Net to be specific.

The teal Nymph emerged from a small pond on the opposite end of the system of them that Tania was out. She cupped her hands around her mouth and shouted:

"STOP IT, DRYAD! I'M AGAINST YOU! WE'RE ENEMIES!"

Vince went up behind her and tried to just... capture with his arms. Which also failed. She lept, dipped down to the surface (not quite below, and yes, there is a difference when dealing with these Nymphs). She popped out of another pond that was in-between them.

"Why the net?!" Asked Vince. "I thought you hated those! They... capture... nature or something?"

"CAN'T YOU SEE I'M DESPERATE?!"

Sonata tried coming from a tree above, but the Pond Nymph apparently saw that coming a mild away, and ducked back to the water, teleporting again to another pond.

"Seriously! Leave me alone you assholes!" She shouted.

"We WOULD but we know you're holding important stuff from us!" Sonata shouted. "Ack, just tell us about the secret passages through the Underground Jungle!"

"I told you, I won't! I really wish I never taunted you with that to begin with!"

"AUGH you're so difficult!"

All three of them kept trying at it, just barely missing her, and finding that she warped to another pond. Truffle Worms were easier to hunt. Chaos Elementals were easier to snipe, and they could just teleport when the fuck ever.

Finally, Vince, Tania, and Sonata all clashed in to eachother and fell in the pond. Tania in particular was hyperventilating, clutching her fists together.

"Okay. That's it." she said. "We're Hallowing this."

"But the Purity-" Vince began.

"DESPERATE! It's been FOUR HOURS! Let's DO THIS! ...We can Clentaminate the spot after."

Pond Nymphs.

Regular ponds in the Forests usually pose no threat. However, in places with enough of them together, special Nymphs tied to their unique ecosystem may gather around to ward off any potential swimmers.

Preferred Environment: Pond System.

Environment Threat Level: Peaceful.

Environment Stats: Wet. Average Temperature. Moderate-Mundane. Semicommon. Large bodies of freshwater otherwise out in the open. Not much "large" wildlife. While "ponds" are considered more of a geographical feature than a biome, this specifically refers to the large "systems" of ponds in close proximity to one-another; bodies of water in any forest or other biome do not count. Systems are significantly more common underground.

Other Names: (Fresh)lake Nymphs, Puddle Nymphs, "Portal Nymphs."

Affinity: Water.

Color: Dark Teal.

Traditional Costume Weapon: A few "vines" of pond plants around their shoulders. Allows them to use surfaces of water as "portals" to other surfaces so to speak, with more powerful Pond Nymphs able to cross ponds at a greater distance.

Vince's Comment: Disrrupting the surfaces of their ponds really screws them over. They focus a lot on the surface specifically, so you can mess them up by sloshing around a lot. If you have a Wave Nymph friend, you're safe and golden. The Nymph Variants do not go by a "rock-paper-scissors" scheme as Sonata and Tania both insist, but that's one interaction that usually helps you come out alive and uneaten.

Sonata's Comment: WOW their ponds are WAY more shallow than I thought they would be! And with a lot more rocks, too! I kept running in to things while I swam!

Tania's Comment: Pond Nymphs.
Nymphae Piscene.
One of the few known Nymph types with an innate ability to teleport. As usual, this is to a limited degree. It is commonly believed by outsiders that they turn the "surface" in to portals. This one actually has a more science-based explanation, something that surprised me to find out. They take the point where water meets air, that combination of two elements is their main source of magic to draw on. Once they are about halfway submerged, the concentration is at its greatest, enabling to them most easily travel to locations of a similar nature. They do this more easily with more motion in to the ponds, hence, their diving acts. It may make them seem majestic and mystical, but there is a practical use to their actions.

Closing AN:

Day 13! Monday the 13th, the anniversary of Hecksing Ulumate Crconikals... yeah. I actually picked that date to publish HUC's first chapter so that, by my "chapter every three days" format (now with this it's the other way around, one day every three chapters) I'd have the chapter with the Charlie Sheen character be published on the day that the Two and a Half Men episode with Charlie's replacement, on the 19th. And... three days after that (also when Chapter 4 of HUC came out) was the future-anniversary of "Soos and the Real Girl..." basically a lot of shit happened on September. Including, again, the update to Terraria that added the Nymph.

...Why the hell did I ramble on about that.

Also you could probably figure out that the "cutoff point" for Part 2's stories is Plantera. Just like how Part 1 is exclusively Pre-Hardmode.

Ashamed as I am to admit it, yes, that one Big Bang Theory joke with Sheldon popping around the ballpit was a bit of an inspiration for both the mini-story and the entry and powers proper. Yeah... Bazinga Guy...

By the way I was supposed to have finished all the roughs yesterday, basically double-down again, this time doing fourteen (the "seven" with the extra #100 plus another extra for the Dryad), but... I got super lazy and just did one rough instead yesterday. But again, I'm super far ahead on roughs anyway, so this doesn't mean there's a huge chance I'll fall behind and would have to end this being daily.

Also, speaking of daily stuff, apparently Shin Megami Tensei V is doing two Daily Demon trailers a day now. Cool. Kinda like how this will go from three chapters a day to four after the twentieth, which is... SHIT in just a week from now!
