After a few days of jetlag, Sango was back on her sleeping schedule. It was early in the morning and Sango was putting on a simple pink t-shirt and jeaned shorts. She already had her breakfast was finishing washing up. Leo prepared everything from those few days and even told her uncles and aunts about it. Sango wasn't sure what's going to happen during her training and even though she was a bit nervous, but she trust her father and her uncles to handle it.
When she finished getting dressed, she walked out of her room and headed over to the dojo. As she stepped inside, she saw her father and uncles. There was a small table behind her father that had a pink mask. Strangely, the color of the mask was the same shade of coral like her former demon slaying suit. Was it a coincidence? She wasn't sure. Sango stood in the middle, across from her father. She couldn't stop taking her eyes off of the mask.
"Sango," Leo said. "At this moment, you'll be training under my tutelage. As my daughter, you are automatically given a mask and the title student and ninja. I'm sure you remembered I said that your Aunt April's training was different, correct?"
Sango nodded. "Yes Chichiue."
"The reason why is that is because she was someone outside of the Hamato Clan and became a kunoichi. Anyone outside of the Hamato Clan who becomes a ninja in our clan receives their title and mask after their training. When they entered the clan, they are a student first and then ninja. Anyone adopted or blood related receives two titles on the spot. The reason is that we are training to take over the clan and be the sensei. Your uncles can take over my position if I choose to grant that position or if anything happens to me. Sango, stand up."
Sango did as she was told. Leo took the coral mask and tied it over her eyes. As Leo finished tying it, she could feel the tails of her newly mask resting below her neck. She realized the size of the mask was the same size as her father's.
"At this moment, only when we train, you will address me as 'Sensei' or 'Master'," Leo said. "For your uncles, if I couldn't teach you for some reason, they will be address the same as me. Outside of training, you will call me like you normally do. Am I clear?"
"Yes Sensei," Sango said.
"The first rule of being a ninja is to do no harm," Leo said. "Unless you mean to do harm, then do lots of harm."
Blinking a few times, Sango was taken aback a bit. She wasn't sure if she should laugh at that last part or not. It was so unexpected and the way her father said that was very quick too. In the corner of her eyes, her uncles weren't phase by that too.
Finally Sango nodded slowly. "Y-Yes, Sensei."
"A ninja stays in the shadows," Leo continued "This is our domain. We mustn't be seen. Our job is to complete our mission without any conflict, unless we have to. We can't leave any sign of us behind."
The only thing Sango could do was to nod over and over. She knew some of these rules, but not all of them, like the last part of the do no harm rule. That one was new to her and it made sense.
"Our first training is simple," Leo stood next to her. "Punching and kicking. We are focusing on the proper stance to punch and the momentum we have to bring to punch properly. Now, follow my movements, Sango."
Leo got into position and Sango did the same. She put her hands into a fist and held them to her side as if she was ready to punch someone. When Leo punched the air, Sango did the same. Then they repeated the same movement with the other hand. Sango tried to put more force into her punches like she always did, but since this was her first training and she's only a four year old child, she knew her punches were weak.
After what it felt like an hour or two, the two stopped. Sango was breathing heavily and she was sweating a bit. Her arms were a bit sore, but she dealt with something similar during her demon slayer training, except the fact that Takahara just watch her punch and kick. Takahara would only step in if her position was off. He never stood at her side and train with her.
Soon Sango and Leo started kicking, which what Leo was showing her was similar to their punching training. Sango tried to put much force into her kicks and punch as she could. She knew her body wasn't in the level it was used to, but she tried as best as she could. Then after they were done with kicking, the two stopped. Sango wiped the sweat from her forehead. She took a quick glance at her father, who didn't break a single sweat. Of course, she thought. It was obvious Leo didn't felt tired, since he was trained throughout his whole life! Then Leo stepped in front of her and crouched down.
"Now try kicking me," Leo said.
"K-Kick?" Sango asked.
"Yes," Leo answered. "You won't hurt me, Sango. I promise."
Gulping, Sango took a breath. Without hesitation, she swung her leg at her father. In a flash, Leo blocked the attack. She was taken aback how quick he was. She didn't even noticed a thing! Leo's face was neutral. He just nodded to himself and Sango pulled away. Leo held up his hand and pointed to it.
"Now try punching my hand." he ordered.
Nodding, Sango did as she was told. She got into position and glared at her father's hand as she clenched her fist. Without hesitation, Sango slammed her fist into Leo's hand. A soft smile grew across her father's face as he clasped his hand over hers. He let out a chuckle and patted her head.
"The force you're putting in is okay," Leo said. "Better than how April started out, but you still need to practice more. Your position is very good, though. I can see potential in those punches and kicks. Just keep practicing. We're still on the basics and we have a lot of things to cover for basic training. When I see you're ready on the next level, it will get difficult."
"Yes, Sensei!" Sango nodded.
"Do you want to take a break?"
"No!"
Shaking his head, Leo stood by Sango's side as they continued their training. Soon her uncles joined in and gave her some pointers. After for some time, it was lunch. Sango and her family had some leftover ramen they had yesterday. Her limbs were a bit sore, but Sango didn't mind. Once they were done eating, everyone was doing what they left off. Her Uncle Mikey played some video games, Uncle Donnie was at his lab as always, Uncle Raph was in his room reading a comic book, and Leo was going on his usual run in the sewers. Sango on the other hand was just drinking some tea in the kitchen. She wondered if it was possible for her to catch up quickly.
Sango had always admired how strong her family was and she really wanted to be at their level. The Hamato Clan still never failed to amazed her. Even though her father and uncles were different from each other, they were strong in their own way and she wanted to be like them. Usually in her past life she was pushed until her limbs ache whenever her old father trained her, but this time she wasn't pushed. Sango knew why and it was obvious. She was still young and had a lot of time...but does she? Sango wasn't sure what's going to happen in the future, but aside from wanting to take over the Hamato Clan, Sango also wanted to protect her family and this time, she'll make sure she won't die again. There was no way she won't repeat the past. From all of the stories she heard from her father and uncles, anything could happen after all. She even knew demons were still around. Sure they were in their own dimension, while some dayokai were living in secret in human society, but there was still a chance that a demon could cause chaos. What would happened if her father, uncles, and aunts were in trouble and Sango wasn't there to help? It was best to prepare and train harder.
With a nod, Sango quietly walked out of the kitchen. Uncle Mikey was heading to his room, holding a bag of chips. Smirking, Sango headed over to the punching bag. She got into her stance and hit the punching bag, but it barely moved. Without hesitation, Sango kept punching. After several more punches, it finally moved, but just barely. Keep going, she thought, you can do this. As she kept on punching, her arms and knuckles became sore, but she ignored it and kept on beating the punching bag. Then Sango noticed her knuckles were burning and the spot she was hitting was a bit wet.
"Woah, squirt, calm down!" Uncle Raph smirked. "Since when did that punching bag did to you?"
"I'm busy, Uncle Raphie," Sango said.
Her uncle smirked and rolled his eyes. Sango just ignored him and continued to beat the life out of that punching bag. Then Uncle Raph grabbed her wrist. Eyes widened, Sango glared at her uncle.
"Hey!" she snapped. "What was that for?"
Uncle Raph didn't say anything. He lifted her balled up fist and he gasped. Sango's knuckles were bleeding and swollen. Gulping, Sango turned to the spot where she was hitting the punching bag and noticed a tinted red spot.
"I-Uh-I-" Sango stammered
She was trying to find the words to explained how that happened, but she couldn't. The only thing Sango could do was to catch her breath from her little personal training. Uncle Raph sighed and picked her up as they headed to the bathroom. When they got there, he set her on the counter, and turned on the water. He quickly cleaned her blood stained knuckles, but every time he wiped them, they kept bleeding.
"Are you trying to break your hands?" Uncle Raph glared at her.
"I'm sorry, Uncle Raphie" Sango apologized.
It was the only thing she could say. Sango thought that no one wouldn't noticed her pushing herself, but sadly her uncle did. Sango wasn't sure what would happened if Leo saw her before Uncle Raph. Sango had a feeling she would get the scolding of a life time. Then Uncle Raph took out a first aid kit. Sango narrowed her eyes as her uncle silently took out some alcohol wipes.
"This is going to sting a bit," Uncle Raph said.
Sango nodded as Uncle Raph put the alcohol wipes on her knuckles. Wincing, Sango flinched and gnashed her teeth. Uncle Raph quickly gave her a sorry look as he continued to wipe her knuckles.
"So why are you working out this hard, Sango?" Uncle Raph asked. "You just started. You don't need to push yourself."
"I just wanted to be strong like you guys," Sango answered.
Sango knew it wasn't a lie. She does want to be strong like them, strong enough to protect them, but of course she left that part out. Blinking a few times, Uncle Raph froze. He let out a sigh and shook his head. It was like as if he had heard something like this before. As Uncle Raph finished wiping her knuckles, he wrapped them up with some bandages. When he was done, he gently tap his fist on her head.
"Listen here Sango and you better listen!" Raph said. "Leo isn't asking you to be strong like all of us. I don't know how you got that in your head, but you're you and us is us. You don't need to push yourself and give yourself extra training to be like us. What Leo is teaching you right now is how your grandfather taught us. You will get there Sango. Just focus on what Leo is teaching you right now."
"What if I wanted to do some extra training or workout?" Sango asked.
"Ask Leo," Raph replied. "It would've be fine if you were older, but you're not. You're four and you just started.
Sango nodded. "Okay."
Then Raph gave her a small smile. "Just don't do that again, squirt. You really scared me back there. By the way, you know I'll have to tell your pops too, right?"
Sango groaned. "Do you have to?"
Uncle Raph scoffed. "Well, duh! Who's going to tell Leo? Chompy?"
"Tell me what, Raph?" a voice spoke.
Sangp gasped and Uncle Raph turned. Leo stepped into the restroom with arms crossed. He stared at Sango's knuckles and his mouth slightly dropped. Sango gulped and looked up at the ceiling as if it was the most interesting thing in the world.
"Squirt, here was using the punching bag," Uncle Raph explained. "Wanna be tough like us. Didn't even noticed her knuckles were bleeding. You're lucky I was there to stop her."
"What?!" Leo exclaimed. "Sango, is this true?"
Bowing her head, Sango nodded. "Yes, Chichiue."
Leo was about to lecture her, but Uncle Raph patted his shell. "Don't worry, I gave her a good talking. She won't be doing that again unless she asks."
"Really?" Leo spoke in a surprised tone. "Thanks Raph."
"No problem," Uncle Raph turned to Sango. "If I see you doing something like this again, you are so grounded, it'll make you turn green! Got it?"
Sango frowned at the green part and even her father looked a bit confused, considering the fact she's human after all. Then again, Uncle Raph always said that he'll beat the green off of Uncle Mikey or anything turtle related, so it does make sense he'll say something similar to her. Although, if his threats were serious or not, was up for the question. Sometimes Sango wasn't sure if he was really joking or not.
Sango gave him a thumbs up. "Got it."
Then Uncle Raph left. Sango let out a heavy sigh. She glanced up at Leo who walked over to her and held her hands. Sango knew her hands were small and her family had bigger hands, but she didn't realized how big they were.
"Young lady, what do you have to say for yourself?" Leo demanded.
"I promise I won't do it again, Chichiue!" Sango said. "I'll ask and I'll be more careful."
Leo sighed. "I swear, I wondered if Raph rubbed off on you more than me."
Sango frowned. "Eh?"
Leo smiled and carried her in his arms. "Your Uncle Raph had a similar experience when he was younger. He wanted to be the best fighter than all of us. He trained in the dojo, overworked himself, and fainted. Your grandfather lecture him and gave us...well it was mostly giving him a punching bag if he ever wanted to train or do some workouts until he was old enough without any supervision."
Sighing in defeat, Sango rubbed her hands. "I didn't mean to worry you guys."
"I know you didn't, but that doesn't stop me from grounding you for a week. You're going to help me and your uncles clean the lair. Understand?"
"Yes, Chichiue."
"Good, now go to your room and you're going to stay in there until dinner."
Sango did as she was told and raced to her room, which wasn't that far. When she closed the door, she internally groaned to herself. It looked like trying to do a simple demon slaying workout was out of the question. Then she realized that she always goes to bed at nine cause she's a four year old, while her father and uncles go out and patrol. Sometimes they patrol right away, after dinner and sometimes they patrol whenever she goes to bed. Sango knew that the other reason she goes to bed early was because her aunts and Uncle Casey were too busy to watch her. Also, the fact that patrol took around three hours and sometimes longer would be enough time for Sango to train. If her family had missions, that would take a bit longer. She even knew to block her mind from Aunt April. She only block her mind whenever she was around her. Sango still didn't want her aunt finding out why a four year old has a mind of a sixteen year old from Feudal Japan. On the other hand, Sango knew Aunt April was suspicious of her, but she knew she was fine cause ever since the little incident when her uncles and aunt lost her as a baby, no one believe Aunt April's claims, which for Sango's case was a good thing. Overall, if Sango planned this without getting caught, she knew she could pull this off.
Smirking, Sango chuckled to herself and nodded. This could actually work. As long as she timed everything, then everything would surly be alright. Of course first thing first was to start small. Besides, a thirty minute demon slayer training wouldn't hurt.
