Entry 53: Winged Nymphs
Beginning AN:
Sadly compared to yesterday this might be a pretty "underwhelming" day, I mean in addition to being a little busy in real life I'm kinda cooling down after the one-two punch of the Parallel World and the End of Part 2.
On the bright side there's a Lost to Boss-Isaac Daily Run for Isaac today and I'm not the best Lost player so there's a good chance I'll finally both rid that shitty Sheldon avatar and give my profiles here and on Fictionpress a long overdue update.
"Come on, we all have wings." Sonata said as she lead Vince through what looked like an above-ground field... just planted underground. Lots of big, pink stalks sprouted from that. And, well, putting it simply, the ground was unstable. "Fly. Just fly."
"...Wings with a limited flight time..." Vince said, studying the underground wetlands. "I know about this place. Don't be fooled by the land, you have to pretty much be flying at all times."
"Nah even when you're in the air you can still get fucked over. So yeah, fluttering is the best."
"But that will just leave us open to ground and air monsters!"
Sonata shrugged. "There's plenty that are both so it's not like it would even matter."
Vince sighed and looked at Tania.
"...How many more things do we need before we can fight back against the Martians?" Vince asked.
Tania was looking at the region in deep thought, hand on her chin. Without even looking away, she just said, "Oh I'd love to throw everything on the planet at those fuckers. They scan you for ten seconds and decide to zap us all to the ground, fuck them."
"Woah!" Said Sonata. "I like your new and sudden initiative! Let's do this!"
"Did we overhear you talking about fighting against those aliens on the surface?"
Ah, some pinkish Nymphs with bee-like or fly-like wings that were, at the moment, on their backs fluttered over and through them. The one that spoke first continued: "You're welcome to help us out with them! Here, follow us!"
"Great!" Said Vince. "It's nice to get another Nymph group that's cooperative-"
"This is just a temporary truce. When the Marians are out, we'll talk about fighting you. Either you come here, or we might invade."
"...I'm okay with that." Vince moved forth-
A rock slid across the ground and pretty much chucked him in to the river. The Winged Nymph rolled her eyes.
"Rule #2 of the Winged Rivers: Watch your step."
"Oy don't go around adding to Rule #1." Sonata said.
Winged Nymphs.
Despite being not-distant relatives of the Fairies, Nymphs with true flight are rare. Winged Nymphs are the "simplest" exceptions, as they have standard wings at their proper disposal.
Preferred Environment: Winged Rivers.
Environment Threat Level: Moderate.
Environment Stats: Dry. Warm. Moderate on the mundane-fantastic scale. Uncommon. Pink/blush fields (even underground) prone to very deep rivers running through them, with mild canyons. Terrarain is uneven and difficult to navigate. Without flight, that is, as there are few trees or other obstacles in the air above them.
Other Names: Flying Nymphs, Flutter Nymphs, Float Nymphs, Uprooting Nymphs, "Fairies" (very inaccurate).
Affinity: Wind.
Color: Light Blush.
Traditional Costume Weapon: Bee-like wings on the backs of their arms, that can quickly shuffle to their backs. Obviously, these are used for flight. They also help grant extra bouts of strength, and some altitude-controlling "levitation" powers. Finally, these wings can also be enchanted to boost their already-high upper body strength.
Vince's Comment: If you can't fly, don't even bother going to this whole general location. If you can fly, though, you're good just about. Especially if you made your own wings, which means you're probably badass enough to go here.
(Note from Sonata: Yeesh Vince, you kill Wyverns, no need to brag so much about it. ...Nah wait I hate them, brag away.)
But even if you can fly. Watch. Your. Step.
Sonata's Comment: More flight sex, hahaha! Anyway, they're mostly really chill Nymphs. But protip, if you're like me and do not wear shoes, their home regions are a pain to navigate. Always watch the ground. Or have some way to fly. I mean, I do, as do Vince and Tania, having our own wings way before we ventured out here.
Tania's Comment: Winged Nymphs.
Nymphae Ales.
According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a Winged Nymph should be able to fly. However, Nymphs tend to break the known laws (and even some unknown laws) all the time, this is not too unusual. No, they cannot actually "fly" normally, they instead use magic specifically themed on propelling themselves upwards to fly. This means that they do not have innate "wind powers" as we understand (although using a magc tome, such as say a Razorblade Typhoon, would be an exception to this - a poor example as they border on water magic, but still), but a more specific class of magic that can be described as "flying magic" or, if you want to be technical, "winged magic."
Closing AN:
(Huh vanilla Terraria doesn't really have that many wind-themed weapons and what not, does it?)
Believe it or not this is quite a ways away from being the last of the Pikmin-inspired Nymph types. (And yeah, they're all river-y because of the Twilight River, the region you find the Winged Pikmin.)
Speaking of which oh shit imagine if Pikmin 4 drops during this month and reveals some new Pikmin types before this is complete but... wow I'd be really tempted to rewrite this to worm them in if they didn't fit in already.
Unless it does something crazy and like for some kind of gimmick spinoff or whatever announces like a hundred types. I'll stop having a "Pikmin reference Nymph Variant setup" if that would mean all of them would be a "derivative" like that. But that's extremely unlikely.
Or actually if it does I mean... one hundred filled out... I wouldn't have to stick to-
NAH.
