Entry 54: War Nymphs

"This reminds me of before we met you," Vince told Tania, "all those times we entered 'war-ish zone' and got ran over with a tank."

"The SAME tank, too." Sonata added. "Just with upgrades."

So yeah they were in a place that, while not the most ominous or threatening biome they've been in not even counting the Evil Biomes, still might as well have had a gigantic 'DO NOT ENTER' sign in front of it.

It actually did have several signs reading exactly that and a few more colorful variants outside, but whatever.

Small sparks kept going off on their flat, burnt, hole-blasted land. There were also... basically, tiger-like beings with 'organic guns' growing from their backs.

Right.

Anyway.

"I hate that thing too..." Tania said. "They called it the 'Terra' tank just to spite me. There is nothing natural or worldly about it whatsoever. And yes, I have been ran over by it. Twice, in fact."

"TELL ME TELL ME TELL ME TELL ME!" Sonata said. "PLEASE PLEASE PRETTY PLEASE!"

Tania took in a deep breath. "Well, okay, the first time-"

"WE SURRENDER!"

They were met with a huge crowd of light red Nymphs who just walked out from behind a field of red-leaved, drooping trees. Tania and Vince were both completely clueless. Sonata on the other hand put her hands on her hips and smiled.

"Fuckin' yeah I'm so badass that people are giving up just by seeing me! Well, okay, I didn't mean to fight unless you fought us. Um... Tania, you can negotiate exactly what this means, because I didn't know there was a war going on-"

"Maybe 'surrender' was the wrong word." One of the War Nymphs said. Sonata frowned. "We just wanted to tell you that we don't want to start a fight at all. And... we respect you as the heroes of the land. Slayer of Plantera, thank you. Last Dryad, Zenith Nymph, and Bridger of the Worlds of Life and Undead."

They bowed.

"Wow..." Sonata blushed, rubbing her cheek. "That's the first time someone who wasn't me or an evil illusion nightmare clone of me called me the Zenith Nymph... thank you for believing in my quest!"

"You're welcome! Would you like to try our Warstone Tea?"

"That sounds incredibly painful! So yeah!"

"...It's less painful than it sounds."

"Oh." Sonata frowned. "Well, I'll still try it anyway."

"How can we be sure this isn't a trap?" Vince asked.

"Well," another War Nymph said, "you can't, and we're known for lying."

Tania chuckled a little.

"I know the history of their land, I think they're honest."

"Yeah, well, I have this theory that they aren't lying, but they said 'surrender' because of my sheer awesomeness. Was it my swords that made you quit? My confident, cocky Dreamworks Facing? ...Was it my ass, I have the most glorious ass of all of Terraria, you fuckers better treat it with respect and give it the attention it deserves!"

The War Nymphs began to look around and mumble.

"Wow." One in the back said. "You know, for a hero that killed the Jungle Monstrosity, you sure are an ass. But we'll help you anyway."

Vince exhaled. "Okay now I feel like I can trust them a lot more."

War Nymphs.

The tamers of the gun-like creatures seen across the Warzones. While the Warzones are true no man lands, their Nymphs... TRY to make them more bearable. To quickly pass through.

Preferred Environment: Warzones.

Environment Threat Level: Severe.

Environment Stats: Cool. Dry. Moderate-Fantastic. Rare. Flat red zones, usually seen with natural "marks" on the ground. Very little plantlife. Most fauna resembles weaponry of some sorts, similar to but distinct from the Cobalt.

Other Names: Battle Nymphs, Violence Nymphs, Aggression Nymphs. (Please do not use "PTSD Nymphs" or any similar terms. Also, they are not "Fury Nymphs," that is an Evil Biome.)

Affinity: Earth.

Color: Light Red.

Traditional Costume Weapon: Hard rock "platings" on their legs, resembles blood red veins. Lets them set off sparks and some small blasts. They could also aggravate monsters and, to a lesser degree, people, better with these.

Vince's Comment: Once you get past the brutal environment, these Nymphs... well yeah, they're good FIGHTERS but it's rare to have one actually attack you.
Um. Also. War is bad.
Impetua is PRETTY fond of these places- GAH! I mean, GENERAL Impetua!
(Note from General Impetua: Jeez, calm the fuck down! I fucking promise I won't attack you for mis-titling me! That's only a thing I do to my fucking enemies, please... don't write me as a fucking abuser... I'm not one...)

Sonata's Comment: I know, don't generalize, but these have generally been like the nicest type of Nymph I've met on my adventure yet! The worst "wars" they've had was in bed! ...That joke was a lot better in my head than when I actually wrote it down, shit.
Also, before anybody asks, I had a Peace Nymph and a War Nymph meet up together. All that really happened was that they discussed politics in a surprisingly calm and reasonable way. It was a bit disappointing. And REALLY boring.

Tania's Comment: War Nymphs.
Nymphae Bellum.
Nymphs that watch over a war-themed section of nature. I do not understand why this biome exists, it seems counter-productive to the very being of nature itself. Most of these Nymphs appear to realize this, and instead try to placate both the very land and any surroundings upon it, resorting to mind manipulation as little as possible. While not directly tied to the Blood Moon or the magic of Water Candles, they share similar properties with aggrivating monsters and people. The reason for this is ill-understood.

Closing AN:

And that's Day 18. Again, not much to say here. Around Part 3 was honestly where I've been running a bit thin on ideas - I mean to a lesser extent Part 2 had some of those issues too, and I had a lot saved for Part 4, so you could say that Part 3 really was the "thinnest" part idea-wise even though it covers a lot of vanilla content. (Plantera/Golem all the way up to Moon Lord. Will there be chapters set during the Pillar Apocalypse? ...MAYBE. I genuinely haven't decided.) This, Day 19, and Day 20 could be seen as extended calms before the storm of me switching over to four chapters a day until the Dryad Entry. But anyway, yeah, Irony Sandwitch With Pikmin Filling.

Oh, I didn't think of this until I did the mini-story and the last touches, but no, there won't be regular Nymphs of the other Horsemen of the Apocalypse, that wasn't the intention here. Well... you could technically consider Oreads as "Death Nymphs" but... eh...

By the way you might really wanna check out Run: .GIFocalypse (currently it's called Rebooted but I might just change that to be "the" definitive RG while the old, completed one will be given the subtitle Prototype) on the 22nd when Chapter 2-2 drops. I think I'm gonna pretty much give up on making it presentable, and instead focus more on rewriting Chapters 1-1 through 2-2... but I'll still post a 2-2 update anyway... and it might be corny and rushed and bad as fuck. So like, you'd be reading a shitty unfinished beta of something before I patch it up and add expansions to it. Or something like that.

"Who the fuck is Impetua" that's the Force Nymph from way at the beginning, that opened up the non-Oread ministories with a literal bang. Sorry if I didn't make that clear.

Status on Roughs: Okay, I got a bit lazy using the "big chapter" of Entry #50 as an excuse, but yeah, I just wrote up to Entry 97... and a half. I really half-assed what I did for 98 and promissed myself to actually finish it tomorrow instead of skipping. Also, 97 might be redone completely, it's currently "Rainforest" but... well, we'll see, I'm getting way ahead of myself. But anyway, hopefully, tonight I can finally at least get 100 done and start on the Dryad Entry tomorrow. Because I really, really want to get to writing that one.

So... I'm trying not to go nuts with explaining every single joke I make, but I feel it's time to explain one I had way back in Day 1. You know how Sonata said that the "horny entry" should be Entry 54? Yeah... in the Terraria Daily Drawing Series I mentioned a few times, guess what monster was drawn for Day 54...

Oh yeah and I'm not gonna directly answer why Sonata suddenly shouted in Japanese in Entry 50's Bonus when she was awakened like that. Maybe even after I actually think of a concrete backstory reason. I figure that would be something I'd leave open to interpretation.
