Entry 63: Broadleaf Nymphs
Beginning AN:
Another one likely to be renamed (but the overall themes and stuff will stay the same) as soon as I can come up with a name for this one.
Vince just kept pacing around back and forth, repeating to himself. "Moon Lord... Moon Lord..."
"Why don't you just call him Cthulhu already?" Sonata asked him, sitting up high on a tree far above. "He's Cthulhu. Don't give in to giving him his dumb fancy title. 'Lord' of what exactly? I'm sure even if a plce is desolate and barren you can't just claim yourself as the 'lord' of that in the eyes of the law. Especially if it's your prison. What if someone called themselves the 'Jail Cell Lord?'"
"That sounds kind of cool."
"No, it's stupid."
...
Not much was happening in the vast, ecodiverse mixed forest that made the home Forests look rather bland and empty.
(...Then again, the "Forest Biome" was kind of bland and empty compared to every other one it seemed.)
Vince was still on high guard. Sonata was looking at her sword collection. The Seedier was... eh, whatever, it's apparently an Ingredient but by itself it didn't last far on the journey before being replaced. The Horseman's Blade... she still enjoyed how all that time training with the Harvest Nymphs and asking them questions and stuff had finally payed off. And the Influx Waver. Her favorite from the time she got to using it. She might keep that until the 'endgame.'
"Please don't tell me you're thinking of 'dual weilding' with two-handed swords again." Tania said, emerging from the tree bark and of course scaring the ever-loving shit out of Sonata. And yes, that was a power Dryads had. Sonata could merge in to and emerge from stone too.
Screaming, Sonata fell off the branch she was on, barely making that fall painless by taking her wings out and fluttering to the ground. All three of her swords fell and scattered.
"JEEZ PAN! Tania, you scared me! Remember our agreement about not doing that?!"
"...We never made one."
"FUCK! We should!"
"Did someone say 'fuck?'"
That last line was said by one of many Broadleaf Nymphs that also emerged from the trees, looking pretty enthusiastic about that.
"It sounded like she said 'We should fuck,' but like, Yoddeler-style, and with enthusiasm."
'Yoddeler' was a Yoda parody, since that might not be clear. I'm not trying to insult anyone's intelligence, it's just that that line could be taken to mean she was talking about some random person who yodels and it would sound incomprehensible. It wasn't a good joke to begin with, never mind, forget this whole paragraph.
Vince smirked. "I mean, it is what she thinks about a lot."
"True." Said Sonata. "Anyway, you seem friendly, want to join the Naked Empire?"
"Also," Vince added, "sorry, we're just vacationing at your spot a little. To shake things up."
Sonata gave a goofy smile. "My vacation idea was to head back to the Lava Lakes we made! Both Vince and Tania thought that was too much."
A random Broadleaf Satyr had his eyes pretty much locked on to Sonata's Terra Blade. She noticed that, all right.
"Hey! What'cha looking at?" She told to him. "I worked really hard to get that, if you wanna learn about it... I'll be happy to tell you the full story."
"Don't." Vince told him. "It's a trap- ah, she might anyway."
"I- I was just..." the Broadleaf Satyr trailed off.
"Okay," Sonata did in fact went on unprovoked, "the Terra Blade's got this funny way of making it. You have to mash a lot of other swords together, and then mash that with some more swords..."
Broadleaf Nymphs.
The more ecologically diverse a forest is, the more it brings together a variety of Nymphs of this type, who easily have several sub-classes, possibly moreso than most other Nymph types. Surprisingly, they tend to get along with each other pretty well.
Preferred Environment: (Mixed) Broadleaf Forest.
Environment Threat Level: Peaceful.
Environment Stats: Average wetness and temperature. Mundane. Common. A forest with a mix of tree types, almost like several "mini biomes" (more on that upcoming) together
Other Names: Conifer Nymphs, "Mixed" Nymphs (misleading name, technically accurate), Temperate Forest Nymphs, Pine/Cone Nymphs.
Affinity: Earth.
Color: Light Sea Green.
Traditional Costume Weapon: A variety of thick wood around mostly just their arms and shoulders. They can not only control almost any type of tree - even those common to other biomes, and even Evil-infected trees to an extent - they can also change trees to other tree types. The advantages of this... are mostly long-term.
Vince's Comment: This is a nice, shady place to rest, and the Nymphs here are surprisingly friendly for the most part! My biggest advice, if one comes at you, get away from anything wood. They have other non-wood powers too, but staying clear of wood is your best bet.
Sonata's Comment: ...What's the difference between these and regular forests again? I'm a little confused. Meh, I met a friend of this Variant that shares my interest in pine cones, that's neat I guess. Oh CONES, is that where "coniferous" comes from?
(Note from Tania: Yes...)
Tania's Comment: Broadleaf Nymph.
Nymphae Mixtum.
A true display of both diversity and unity... and also a display of unity against a common target, as these Nymphs still hold some anti-human bias, just not as much as many in other biomes on averge. Their abilities are similarly diverse, from which type of tree they have a stronger tie to, likely a result of having more options than the average biome of the sort of lifeform variant energy to draw from. They are similar to the Nymphs that have ties with broad types of animals in this regard, only with plant variety rather than animal variety.
Of course, the Jungle beats all biomes in terms of ecological diversity, while the Underworld has the least. I am not trying to say Dryads are better, just that they are around the biggest variety of life out of all the biomes.
...I should have been more careful when writing these. I hate coming off sounding like a racist. Especially since it's easier to say "All Dryads" are of something when, only counting living Dryads, that can be true based off of me alone.
Closing AN:
Oh, hey, a new thing I was thinking over for a few days was just casually mentioned in this chapter.
All I'll say is this: "Mini biomes" in this context are not exactly small biomes like Granite and Marble Caves. (Hell, those might even be "expanded" with this, so that they're the size of full-fledged biomes. I mean, technically this is in a 3D world with an infinite size so whatever.)
Also this is probably one of if not the last of the "normal" biomes depending on how you look at it.
And finally, the next chapter is something new: It's the first fourth chapter of a day... unless you count Entry #3, as it was technically the fourth chapter of the first day since I posted the first three entries and the Oread/Nymph prologue there. But still, a nineteen-day gap between sets of four chapters being posted.
