Chapter 2: Chapter 2

Once she felt the forest close around her and she was free from scrutiny Alex kept an eye on her surroundings. The only reason she was not too scared was because it was day time and she was staying on the beaten path. However the further in she got the more her magic coiled as if waiting to be leashed out any second. It was when she reached a clearing, that her eyes widened when right in front of her a bright light appeared like a rainbow leaving an imprint that looked vaguely familiar to her as well as a tall man dressed in green and gold, a huge horned helmet on his head. He had shoulder length hair and the greenest eyes she had ever seen. She was only able to utter one word "Loki?"

The man walked towards her just as the light receded and stood just a few steps from her and said "I was afraid this would happen. Your magic was never meant to be released. My brother as thick as he is would his recognise it. It is after all half his as well and while he would not harm you he has no talent in keeping a secret and the All father would find out about you. After what he did to my other children there is no doubt of what he would do to you when he finds you. What happened?"

Alex gathered herself together when she realised who it was standing in front of her. The little she got from her memories told her he wished her no harm so she was inclined to trust him for now. She replied "I got away from those people, and I refuse to go back."

He frowned as he replied "Do not worry, I saw. It is why i am here. I felt your magic straining to reach you over the years as well as you trying to reach it. I assumed you were doing it unconsciously until you broke the seal and i felt your magic and memories released. I was not able to come to you before now." Alex stepped back a little when she came under the impression he wanted to rebind her magic. He shook his head and said "Do not worry I will not bind it again. It would cruel like cutting off a limb. No i am going to give you access to all of it as well as the knowledge i taught you before I decided you were safer away from Asgard so you can protect yourself as well as hide from those who would seek you."

Alex nodded "When my parents found out I had no magic they gave me away under the guise of protecting me from the magical world's prejudices. They never looked back after sending me away or checked up on me. I waited hoping they would come and save me but they never came. I realised I had to save myself."

Loki answered "Your parents found they could not have children due to spells from enemies. They conducted a ritual to me asking if I could help fix the problem. I did this and you were reborn to them as their first born. It was one of the few ways i could hide you from the All father."

Alex was confused and decided to ask "Why? I mean I don't want you to think I'm ungrateful because I'm not but what is the reason you are so determined to protect me?"

Loki smiled gently and moved closer cupping her face gently and replied "Despite the nature of the blood adoption or the fact that it was conducted without my consent magic has deemed to make you my child, well Thor's too but still. Magic is sentient enough to have acted on my behalf. I think that somewhere along the line we are connected and while we may not see it now magic does and it is why you most likely survived the ritual that killed so many. There is also the fact that my own magic is very protective of you. You have to remember blood is a powerful tool not to be taken lightly. Do you not feel it right now from when I arrived a sense of trust?"

Alex nodded "Yes,"

Loki placed his hand on Alex's head and a glow came out of it enveloping Alex. She felt something snap into place, and she felt in balance with her own body. She also watched as her injuries healed and feel her being healed inside as well. It was not until Loki stopped that she realised she felt a lot more different than she normally did. Loki held out a hand with a golden apple in it and said "This will fix anything I missed."

Alex's eyes were wide as she asked "Isn't that one of Idunn's apples?"

Loki nodded "It is but you already carry the blood of the immortals the apple will serve to heal you not change anything. The treatment of your former years has done a lot more damage than you realise. The apple will reverse it.

Just before he left he placed a pouch in her hand and said I have hidden you from the sight of the All father in case he senses my magic within you. Go to the goblins bank have them do a blood test to identify you as one of mine there is enough gold in the pouch to pay for their tests. I left something there for you. I hope I packed well enough for you. Good luck daughter."

Loki disappeared from there leaving her standing in the middle of the clearing pouch clutched in her hand. Alex looked at the pouch in her hand and saw that there really was gold inside. Her eyes were wide, she had never seen so much gold in one place before she was sure it would fetch a lot. She sighed then turned as she disappeared from the clearing her mind wondering why on earth she had felt the need to go there in the first place. It was not like she had known she would see Loki there. The only explanation was that Loki must have led her there somehow when he wanted to see her.

To her relief Alex found herself in a familiar place, when she reappeared. She had used her memories of Diagon Alley from her previous life having never gone there before during this one. Despite everything she had been through seeing the magic all around her made her feel giddy inside. She remembered resigning herself to being a squib before her parents decided they didn't want a child with no magic and cringed. How could she even give this up? This warm, comforting, euphoric feeling all around her. She knew now she couldn't.

Shaking those thoughts from her mind she made her way to the tall white building that had two goblins standing outside of it with spears in their hands. Alex bowed as she walked in and was acknowledged by a bow in return by the goblins. She found the movies had not done the place justice from what she could remember. The bank was massive and there was so much to look at. In fact he had not anticipated the number of goblins she could see working doing different jobs some going in and out of rooms on the sides of the room.

Making her way to a teller and standing in the que Alex watched in awe of hr surroundings. Not even noticing the looks she was getting for being an unescorted child in the bank. Soon enough it was her turn and she looked up as much as she could with her short stature of 3foot 8inch height at the goblin and said "I would like to have an identity test done please."

The goblin leaned over the counter to look at her and seemed to want to ask where are your guardians child? however he refrained and kept looking at Alex as if searching for something.

Alex reached into her pouch and took out the gold coins and repeated herself as she placed them on the counter. The goblin sat back down and counted the coin nodded and said as he climbed down "Follow me child."

Alex was led to a side room. There was nothing special about the room it it had a desk in the centre with a bowl and parchment. Alex sat down where the goblin pointed then he said as he held out a large sharp knife "Your finger child I need seven drops of blood in the bowl. Alex let him cut the finger an then dropped the blood it the bowl which had some kind of liquid inside. Alex assumed it was a potion. The goblin picked up the parchment and placed in the bowl and they both watched as it absorbed all the potion and blood before it was taken out.

There was writing on the parchment that Alex could see which got clearer and clearer. When the writing was now fully visible Alex looked at the parchment. On it was her name or the name she must have had when she was in Asgard as well as her name for the world she was currently in.

Name : Princess Freya Lokithordottir (formerly Alexandra Lilian Potter)

Parents : Thor Odinson, Loki Odinson (Laufey)

Mortal parents : Magically disowned by (Lily Potter Nee Evans and James Potter)

Private royal vault (Blood locked)

Alex was not sure how to feel about the fact that Lily and James had actually disowned her. She wanted to be furious and lash out but she kept herself calm. It was not as if she actually seen them as her parents these past few years and even then with her rebirth she was not as attached to them as she would have been without it.

She looked up at the goblin who was now looking at her with awe, the indifference on his face was gone. He spoke first "Your highness. Your father opened a vault for you a number of years ago and asked us to help you with whatever you needed depending on your situation. He stated there may never be any need if everything went well, every goblin has been briefed about this and we have orders to let our king Ragnock know of your arrival.

She nodded and replied "That is fine may I visit my vault once I have seen him?"

"Of course, please follow me to his office."

Alex followed the goblin through another side door. She could sense the magic in it and knew that it was some kind of portal. soon enough they were standing outside a lavish door made of gold. The door opened as soon as they arrived and they walked into an office that was decorated with weapons all around some of which she had never seen. She watched as the largest goblin she had seen yet sitting behind the large desk look up at them and say "This better be goo Goldfarb I am busy."

Her escort replied "This is her your majesty."

The large goblin Alex now knew to be Ragnock turned to her with a bit more interest and said "Very well, leave, I will tend to her."

Bowing the goblin walked out leaving Alex in the room with his king.

Alex began to curtsey when the goblin stopped her "No need for that child. Your father and I go a long way back. Now from what I understand you would only need access to that vault if things did not go as he planned and seeing you have access to your magic some thing must have triggered it."

Alex looked at the goblin and asked "You know the circumstances of my birth?"

In reply the goblin said "I do. i know you were to live your life with no magic so you could not be traced by Asgard. Your father thought the mortal magic users would be enough to protect you from sight. No matter, there was always another plan in place in case this failed. I will be taking you to your vault and there you will find what your father has left for you. "

Ragnock led her out of his office to a lift which he had her go in on her own as he said "Place your hand on the shield you find on the door and a blood test will be done to give you access inside. The lift will bring you back up here."

Alex nodded as he said this and went down. She got out as soon as the lift stopped and the door opened and she saw she was in a corridor. The shield mentioned was there where she was told on the door. It depicted the world tree with a snake wrapped around it. The shade of green reminded her of Loki's eyes. Touching the shield she felt a pin prick on each of her fingers before the doors opened on either side of her.

Not sure what she was expecting Alex saw gold coins all neatly piled on one side of the large hall like room reaching the ceiling. On the other side was familiar weapons, weapons she remembered using when she was in Asgard after being kidnapped then Loki fine tuning her skills in using them afterwards. There was also things like clothes, shoes, Armor, most of the styles seemed to have been derived from Asgardian styles. Her eyes were drawn to a pedestal where a book lay open seemingly on a specific page. She walked over to the book and looked at it.

Her eyes were when she rea the note in it.

Freya my child

This book is to be your grimoire, I have spelled to be so. If you have not eaten the apple I gave you upon seeing you do so now then read the incantation in the book. This is the only way I could protect you my child. I had hoped to buy you more time with my previous plan but it seems the Norns would not be denied.

you father Loki

Alex could almost read an apology in between the lines. It made her hesitate. She shook off her suspicions as she reached into her pouch where had placed the apple and ate it, she was sure Loki would not do anything to harm her especially a he went through so much to keep her safe. She then looked into the book and read the incantation she found there.

As soon as the last word was said Alex felt it, a magic she had felt once. A magic she had rejected before. A feeling of anger and betrayal went through her. Loki had known, he had kept her mind closed to that memory when she was tested by the norns, a test that she failed at the time as she had not wanted the responsibility and rejected it fiercely. She remembered the norns being furious with her having been so close to gaining the power they wished to place on her and Loki protecting her at the time.

It was also a memory that showed the manipulation of Amora the enchantress by the norns to do as she did to her and how when she was free of them she went mad in her grief at her actions towards the one she called the love of her life, Thor. She had already learned by then that power came with a price. She already had power she did not need or want more. This one came with a responsibility to an entire realm. It was power that came with being a paladin of magic a power that meant she was now a servant of magic. Apparently only certain souls could become paladin and it needed a connection to Loki who was the god of magic. Now Loki's interest in protecting her made sense to her.

Alex found herself on the floor of the vault sobbing her heart out. The choice she had been given was no choice at all. She was now bound to serve magic forever. She had not wanted this even at the threat of being told she would become mortal and magicless. She felt warm arms wrap around her as she cried startling her. Then a voice was crooning to her in a gentle voice as it spoke "There there no need for the sorrow little one. Things are not as bad as they seem. I do believe there has been a miscommunication when it came to you. The norns are not known for explaining very well, nor being subtle when it comes to getting things done. They only know to manipulate things to get their way. Magic is dying on this world, and it needed a champion, hence the need for a paladin. Normally there is free will in the choice you should never have been forced into it only tested for it. Unfortunately not even I can reverse this."

Alex turned around to look through tearful eyes and ask "Who are you?"
