"Okay so chances are she is super angry and waiting for all of us with something big to throw at us. Which is why you're here." Amethyst said to Steven as they clambered over the large rocks that lead up the mountain to Jasper's hideaway.
"I get that you're here because you want to help her. And I get that Bismuth is here because she has the present." Steven said pointing back at Bismuth who grinned and hefted the large giftwrapped package over her shoulder. "But why is Connie here?"
"To protect you from her."Connie said as she took his hand and squeezed it making him turn a bright shade of pink as he squeezed her hand back in sweet delight.
"You two are adorable. It's gross." Amethyst said as she and Bismuth chuckled when Connie and Steven blushed even deeper.
"And why is Peridot here?" Steven asked as Peridot frowned.
"Because I also helped build the present and I want to see it in action. Also because Amethyst is here." Peridot responded curtly. Steven blinked in surprise she was glowering at him as if he had just punched Pumpkin. Which would be weird since he hadn't seen that weird living gourd for a while. He hoped they were remembering to feed her.
The quintet paused at the edge of Jasper's territory. Steven summoned his shield in anticipation for some sort of attack, which knowing Jasper was bound to come from above or in front. It would be easy to anticipate but irritating to block.
But all they found was the large pile of rocks sitting in front of the cave. And a tree with some grass starting to grow up around it. Amethyst groans and rubs her face.
"Okay so clearly she is in there sulking. Which to be fair she totally can do."
"So let's go in there and tear her out." Connie said boldly as she started walking across the bare dirt. She paused and looked around in surprise. "She really did this much damage? Was she even thinking about the ecosystem? How many animals has she pushed out of their native habitat! It's completely irresponsible of her to do this!"
Connie frowned and fumed as she started marching even faster towards the large cave that sat in the middle of the torn up dirt and discarded stumps.
"Connie! Be careful!" Steven said as he jumped and landed a few feet in front of her. Having flown about twenty six feet with ease.
"Man he's getting powerful. Good thing he's in therapy otherwise we all might have something to fear if he snapped." Bismuth said with a whistle. Amethyst did a double take as they walked towards the cave glancing at Bismuth in surprise.
"You didn't even try to cut that with a joke. We all know that he's in therapy. Why would you feel the need to bring this up?" Bismuth shrugs in response before passing the large present over to Peridot.
"Here there's metal in here. Keep it hovering. I'm going to try and move these rocks." Amethyst cracked her back before she turned into a hulking ogliath to help out. Connie picked up a few smaller one's. And Steven did the over dramatic thing by gripping the largest one.
They only managed to remove a small percentage of the large barrier when a scowling eye glared out at them.
"Touch on more pebble and you all die." She growled as she glared out at them all. Amethyst smirks and leans in to stare right back.
"Good to see you too sis. Sure am glad that you opened with a threat instead of just coming out swinging."
Jasper let out a long dran out moan before slamming her forehead on the nearest rock.
"WHY? WON'T?! YOU! LEAVE?! ME! ALONE?!"
"Because we brought a present for you. And I'm only going to give up when you agree to play nice and stop storming into Steven's dreams." Jasper raised an eyebrow as she glared back at Amethyst. A long beam of light hit her right on the nose and part of her eye.
"So are you going to come outside for your present? I promise that you're going to love it." Jasper snorts in response before she clambered out of the hole they had made. Pushing some more rocks out of the way before finally breaking out with a scowl.
She paused to glare at each one of them personally. Pausing at Peridot for a moment and giving a rude gem based hand gesture. Bismuth luckily enough was there to put a large arm down to keep Peridot from murdering the bigger gem. Bismuth however shook her head in disgust at the casual action. As if Jasper had personally kicked a puppy.
"Fine. I'm here. Now give me whatever it is you wanted to give me so that you can leave." Jasper growls as she stands in front of the waiting group.
"Okay. Jasper presenting your present is the creators themselves! Bismuth and Peridot!" Amethyst said while doing little jazz hands. Bismuth hefted the present and underhanded tossed it to Jasper who planted her feet and snatched the large package out of the air.
"Sorry we couldn't wrap it." Bismuth said with a small smile. She was actually pretty satisfied with her work. Jasper held the large object. It was the size of her, cylindrical, with a heavy base and a chain on the top. She hefted it a little. It was pretty sturdy.
"A training bag?" She said with a single quirked eyebrow.
"More then that. Hang it up. Try it out." Peridot demanded with a maniacal grin. Steven and Connie took a couple of steps back.
"She looks creepy." Connie whispered to Steven who nodded.
"Weirdly intense right?" He replied.
Jasper rolled her eyes before walking to the large tree hanging out in her territory. She hefted the chain over a nearby branch and began adjusting and hanging it. If she was lucky it might just snap the branch and she wouldn't have to worry about the dumb bet that she had made with Amethyst over this dumb tree.
"You need to add more dirt around these roots. And more rocks." Peridot said critically as she circled the large tree. She kicked at some dirt before leaning down and skimming her hands over it.
"What?" Jasper paused, training bag half up in the air, half leaning against the trunk. Her muscles taunt as she adjusted it.
"The soil is too thin here. If you have a big rain storm then this entire place is going to have a flash flood and be gone in an instant." Peridot said as she glared at Jasper as if it she was personally to blame for climate change.
"So what are you now some sort of gardening expert gem?" Jasper sneered as she tightened the training bag. "It will be fine. If it's so weak that some water from the sky can kill it then it was too weak to survive." Jasper say's dismissively as she finally get's the bag hanging.
"Well it's up. Will you all go now?" She scowls out. Bismuth tutted before she walked forwards.
"MMM. MMM. MMM. Not until I get to see my baby in action. Go ahead. Give it a hit. As hard as you can." Bismuth said standing beside Jasper and crossing her arms. Jasper glanced between the bag and the gem.
"I thought you were a builder gem?"
"Building an experimental training bag isn't too different from building a tower. Just have to know what you're doing. Go ahead. As hard as you can. No holding back."
JAsper tossed back her head with a quick harsh cackle.
"I never do. Don't you know they've had to replace entire training centers on homeworld after I've used them?" She pulled her fist back and shot it forwards. Steven yelped and threw up a protective bubble between him and Connie as a quick blast of air ripped through the clearing. Connie smirked and looked at him teasingly as he chuckled and rubbed the back of his head.
"I...ah...overreacted there for a second."
"Big time. You were really worried about her? Trust me Steven. We've faced worse together." Connie said with a giggle.
Jasper stared wide eyed and slack jawed. The bag hand't even moved. Not even a swing. She swung to glare at the giggling human with a snarl.
"IS THIS A TRICK?! Don't you dare laugh at me!" Jasper said warningly. Connie shut her mouth but continued to smile. Connie crossed her arms, unimpressed by the outburst. She had lived with her parents for sixteen years. She was used to someone trying to act tougher then they were.
"Why didn't it move?" Jasper said as she walked around the bag and tried a different angle of attack. She slammed her fist out and raised an eyebrow when she felt the push back.
"Figured it out yet?" Bismuth said with a smile as she wrapped a arm around Jasper and Peridot's shoulders. Peridot was grinning like a cat that had just eaten a bowl of cream.
"There's a souped up and readjusted propulsion motor from an Era 1 spaceracer in there. It absorbs energy and then redirects it outwards evenly. That way no matter how hard you hit it, and from any angle it won't move. And will actually push back against you. I figured a dirt head like you wouldn't understand the tech aspect behind it. But basically you can hit as hard as you want and nothing will happen." Peridot grinned satisfied with herself as Bismuth chuckled.
"Together the two of us can create something pretty dang good huh Peri?" Bismuth said shaking the shorter gem's shoulder. Amethyst frowned before barging in between them and breaking up the trio. Peridot blushed as Amethyst gave her a confused and slightly piercing look. It took Peridot a couple of seconds to realize that the shorter purple gem was jealous. Something in her chest tightened at that realization.
"SSSSoooooooo. Big fella? What do you think of it?" Amethyst asked Jasper. Who had not moved an inch. She had just been standing. Hand resting on the training bag for a few seconds. Stiff as a piece of wood. She shivered and blinked.
"Ha. HA! HAHAHA!" Jasper crowed in joy as she brought her hand back and punched it again. Then again. Then sprung to the other side and kicked it.
"It doesn't move! HA! A worthy opponent! Finally something that can take a hit! Wooo!"
"So what do we say when we get a present?" Steven said as he nudged Peridot. The two exchanged knowing glances before looking back at Jasper who gazed at them in confusion.
"I...uh..."
"Wow! THANKS!" Peridot said at the top of her lungs before clapping her hands together.
"Uhhh...yeah...fine...what she said." Jasper said dismissively as she turned back to the bag. Acting like a kid who had just gotten a present for the first time. Amethyst frowned. Had Jasper ever gotten a present before? She would need to ask around about that.
"This soil is really hurt." Connie said in concern. Her eyes drifting from Jasper punching the bag to the soil around the tree. She frowned and strode forward before tapping Jasper on the shoulder. Jasper paused and turned in confusion. Amazed that the smaller human had the guts to actually approach her.
"You do know that you need to take care of the environment around you right? Otherwise this entire place will be-" Jasper cut her off with a groan and waved her away.
"What is with small beings and protecting the environment? Ugh! You are all just like Amethyst! Nosy and bossy!"
"Okay. Have it your way. But Peridot was right. If you don't do something this tree will be washed away. Or die. Or both." Connie sniffed and turned on her heel before stalking away. Steven turned between Jasper and Connie before leaping, getting to Connie wrapping his arms around her and shooting off into the sky.
"This is also an advertisement for lil homeworld. Homeschool can help you get better resources you know. You couldn't build this yourself. But we can. So it would help you to actually attend some time." Amethyst said before she grabbed Bismuth and Peridot by the hands and dragged them away. She wanted to end the interaction on a high note.
"Just something to keep in mind!" Amethyst shouted as the trio strode out of the clearing. Jasper watched them go. Shrugged and turned back to the punching bag with a massive feral grin. She hit it. Again. And again. And again.
Amethyst was smiling widely as the three made their way down the hill. Peridot glanced at Amethyst in confusion before snapping her fingers in realization.
"OOOHHHHH! She called you by your name! No runt. No insults. Just Amethyst!" Peridot said in realization. Amethyst grinned and wrapped her arm around Peridot's shoulders.
"Yep! Wearing her down! Just a matter of time now!" Amethyst grinned even wider. She would break through to that thick head. On way or another. She didn't quit.
