Jasper cackled as she punched the training bag again. Then dodged around the tree and delivered another devastating kick again to the side. Then bounced beneath it and gave another punch. Each blow should have been powerful enough to knock the training bag flying with it's guts trailing behind it. But thanks to that weird engine tech thingy that Peridot and Bismuth put in it it was still standing strong. And delivering a good strong vibration right back down her arm.

She chuckled as her back tightened up. She could feel every last inch of her screaming to give it more and more powerful blows! Now this was training! She punched it again and again and again. She felt the force from her fist push into it then get magnified and pumped back into her within a microsecond!

"Someone thinks they're tough!" She chuckled before she gave it multiple low blows. Each punch brought another smile to her face. She finally fell back with a sigh against the tree that it was hanging from. She put her hands behind her head in delight.
"Now that's how you train!" She crowed in delight. She stopped for a second. She did not feel angry. Or frustrated. That was weird. Normally her fall back emotion was pure unreasoning anger or irritation at the world around her. But for a moment...she didn't feel that. It was like she had punched all of the anger out. She had punched all of the irritation away.

She was...what was that word? Content? Steven Universe sang about it a lot...what was it?!
"Happy?" She frowned. She wasn't normally this emotion...She had been content before. Excited even. Excited before a big battle. Excited when she was facing an opponent worthy of her time and energy. Excited to fight to wonder if maybe this time she will get shattered into a million little shards. But this wasn't that excitement. This was much more...empty.

She felt empty and that brought her happiness. As if she had punched all of the anger out of herself.

"Weird. Never felt like this before." She said up to the tree. It rustled in the breeze. Ignoring her. She chuckled. Even that didn't bother her. She cracked her neck and relaxed deeper against the roots.
"You are surprisingly comfortable." She said up to it. "You know I bet that if I asked those clods might actually be able to mess around with this thing and make it punch back even harder! That would be perfect! Then I would have to dodge faster and-"

Jasper cut herself off and shook her head.
"What am I talking about? Just because I'm talking to you don't think this means I like you. Got it?!" She threatened the tree which just whispered in the breeze. "Yeah I thought you would say that. Dumb tree."

She couldn't go down and ask them for help. That would be weakness. And that would mean that the runt would have been right. And Jasper could not stand the thought of it.
"I am not weak." She grumbled and kicked the ground. Her hands rooted in her hair, trying to find any sticks that had gotten stuck back there. It wouldn't be the first time. She snorted. She was bored. It was quiet. She had never noticed how peaceful it was up here. She closed her eyes and breathed out. It was actually really nice. No one to talk to. No one to annoy her. No one to tell her what to do.

She shifted in irritation. She liked being alone. Being alone had never bothered her before now...so why did she feel like she had a ruby clinging to her back and overheating her?
"This is stupid. They're gone. I've got a cool thing. Why should I care what a bunch of rejects and organics are doing right now?" She grumbled. The tree just sat there, drenching her in shade. A breeze kicked up and a single leaf slowly fell down. Jasper gazed up at it, watching as it slowly drifted down and then landed on her gem. She bristled and quickly spun away from the tree. Hackles raised, on all fours, helmet summoned. Staring at the tree with a growl.

"Do not attack me!" She shouted at it before pausing. The tree just stood there. Completely at ease. Maybe...Maybe it wasn't attacking? That was insane though! What else could it be doing?

"Are you..."Jasper frowned. She hated thinking. SHe hated having to piece things together. But clearly she had to in this situation. "Are you trying to get familiar with me?"

She had seen smaller rubies do it before. Casually punch each other, drape themselves over each other. She had witnessed and watched lower gems do it too. Amethysts and Peridot's exchanging shoulder taps and hugs. Even picking each other up with no intention to body slam them. Just...touching...

The only time Jasper had let herself been touched was during a fight or training. She had never accepted a hand up when she was knocked down. Or a handshake when she did a good job. She only took punches and kicks and bites. She stood up and brushed herself off before slowly walking back to the tree. She looked at it from all angles before getting back into a comfortable dent in the roots.

"Don't get familiar with me. Got it? You're just a bet I'm trying to win." She ordered up at it. The tree didn't respond. Jasper shimmied a little. That nosy brat...whatshername...Connie had been right. Jasper could feel every last root in this tree. It was pretty close to the surface. If she gave it a strong kick it would probably fall over.

"Eh. What do I care. I don't care about anyone or anything. I'm alone. And I like it that way." Jasper grumbled and crossed her arms before closing her eyes tight. No one to bother her.

Just the way she liked it.

Lapis picked up another piece of pottery that some rough housing Amethyst's had knocked over and broke. She sighed and rolled her eyes. Alpha kindergarteners. They were so rambunctious sometimes. She actually liked hanging out with them a lot more then the high and mighty upper class gems that would wander through.

A warriors meepmorp was so much more...intimate and explosive. Emotional. Peridot was lugging a large sack of dirt through the meepmorp hall with a grunt. It was faster to cut through then to go the long way around the barn. She huffed and panted. Lapis paused what she was doing before rolling her eyes.

"Why don't you just use some metal and float it over?" Lapis rightfully pointed out to the smaller weaker gem. Peridot paused and rolled her own eyes.
"All of the good transportation sheets are in use by others. I have to do this 'the old fashioned way' as Amethyst would call it. Plus it helps develop my bicep muscular structure." Peridot said making a small weak honestly very sad little muscle. She then picked up the large sack of dirt and began dragging it again. Lapis grabbed the other side and the two began huffing and dragging it through.

Neither were very powerful, but together they could get it through into the greenhouse. Peridot glanced up at Lapis nervously. Lapis noticed but didn't say anything. She was concentrating after all. Peridot took a deep breath and screwed her eyes shut.

"If you have something to say just say it." Lapis said with a sigh. She was used to Peridot tiptoeing around her. Lapis knew she was powerful enough to make the small gem suffer. And sometimes she let her emotions get the better of her. She was getting better though.

"About Jasper-" Peridot began only to yelp as Lapis dropped the dirt. Her eyes wide and her hair seemed to float for a few seconds. She took a deep breath and relaxed. She hadn't noticed but she had actually gotten onto her tip toes. Her entire body one tight nerve.

"What about her?" Lapis asked casually. Peridot paused in their lugging of the heavy dirt and stood with her arms crossed.
"I don't like her either. But we don't get to choose who does and doesn't come here. If she wants to come to little homeschool then she's totally allowed to. I don't like it but that was one of the major rules that everyone agreed on." Peridot was a stickler to the rules. To a fault even.

Lapis groaned and nodded in agreement.
"Sure. Fine. But we never expected her to actually...you know...show up!" Lapis responded. The two were standing, glowering at each other in frustration. The barn was luckily empty. It always felt like the old days when it was just the two of them standing there after a class had finished.

"I thought she would stay in her woods. We would stay in little homeschool and that would be that. But now you and Amethyst and Steven are out there annoying her every other day. Before you know it she's going to come down here and actually hurt someone who can't protect themselves." Lapis said simply. Peridot shook her head in disgust.

"She only left after you snapped at her. She might be a jerk. But she wasn't you know...hurting anyone."
"Yet."
"You know what I mean. You don't have to forgive her for what she did to you-"
"Thats the thing. She didn't do anything to me. I did everything to her. I don't like who I am around her. She makes me do bad stuff. And then I don't feel bad about it because she is just the worst. And then I feel bad that I don't feel bad. And it's easy Peridot! It's so easy to just-" Lapis made a fist, water crawled out from her gem and wrapped around it. A buzzsaw appeared from it, firm, powerful, she could destroy all of little homeschool and most of the surrounding countryside without even breaking a sweat!

That had been her job! This entire planet could be totally reformed in a few days by her alone! She was arguably one of the most powerful gems there! And Jasper...Jasper reminded her of it. And told her that it was fine to do that. It was fine to hurt those weaker then her. Because it made her feel for a brief instant...good.

"I know." Peridot said. Unimpressed. Not flinching. Just waiting. totally unphased. "But like I said. If she wants to come to little homeschool we can't just run her off unless she does something destructive. With complete intent. We've helped so many enemy combatants. So many gems who would have been fine with poofing or shattering us just a few earth years ago. She's no different."

Lapis sighed and gripped the sack of dirt again.
"Whatever. Fine. If she comes here I won't drown her or anything unless she deserves it. But I'm not going to like it. And I'm probably going to complain the entire time she is here."
"To be fair I'm probably going to complain too." Peridot reassured her friend as she gripped the other side of the sack and hefted it up. The two of them continued walking to the glass house. Lapis shot Peridot a smug look as something went clicking through her mind.

"But to change the conversation. Amethyst huh?" Peridot blushed and ground her teeth as she kept on walking. Ignoring her roommate and friend.
"Come on. I see how you look at her." Lapis continued to pick as Peridot just increased her speed. Nearly dragging the chuckling terraformer along. Storm clouds were gathering on the horizon and the two of them needed to get the dirt inside before it got wet.
