*Gestures* What is this?
I ship polyamorous Gosalyn/Huey/Violet, okay? I thought it would be funny to do a fic in the same vein as Not A Date, which is my Fendrakepad ship fic.
Also Gosalyn is nonbinary in this fic.
No one has to like it lol.
It's a different take on the same ship I recently explored with a fic called Double Date which also features Aroace Dewey whom I love.
If you don't want to read queer Ducktales fics... Go elsewhere.
Gosalyn was usually pretty good about putting clues together. They could usually figure out what was going on just beneath the surface. Gosalyn had figured themself out, after all, and that had been a tricky, tangled web of identity politics. And they had solved countless mysteries with Darkwing, Launchpad, and Fenton. But Gos was a little… Hopeless, in the romance category. You could probably come right out and say you loved them and Gosalyn would still be a little unsure.
Which was why they had missed all the signs right up the day they found out that they were not Violet and Huey's third wheel.
Maybe they should have found it strange, how many times they had crashed date night. But friendship was friendship, right? So they'd just thought they were really good friends with Violet and Huey. And sometimes, when they held Violet's hand, and warmth shot through their body… Well that was normal friend stuff. And the one time when they'd had a sleepover and Huey's dare had been to kiss Gosalyn, and Violet had jokingly complained about not getting to kiss Gosalyn and then had kissed them anyway, all those resulting butterflies were normal, platonic butterflies.
Maybe there wasn't such a thing as platonic butterflies. Maybe Gos should have known that long ago. Maybe they shouldn't have figured it out one night as they were getting ready for another dinner with just the three of them. Maybe maybe it shouldn't have taken Drake's pointed comment about how they were spending a lot of time with just Huey and Violet.
"Yeah, I really like them."
"That's good, sweetie. I'm glad you have people you like, who like you. Have fun on your date."
Those words rang in Gosalyn's head the whole way to the restaurant.
When they got out of their car and walked in, the shock had been replaced with determination and they practically slammed their hands down on the table where Violet and Huey were sitting.
"Everything okay, Gos?" Huey asked.
"Is this a date?" They demanded suddenly, sounding a little panicked. To their knowledge, they had never been on a date. But maybe they'd had bad intel.
"Uh, yes," Huey said.
"Is that why you both kissed me that one time?"
"Did you not want us to?" Violet asked, her eyebrows crinkling in concern.
"No I- I liked it, I just didn't know, you know?"
"Oh my gods," Huey looked horrified, "You didn't know we were dating."
"Of course I didn't! I thought you were dating Violet- I mean just dating Violet. I didn't… I didn't know. I didn't know…" Gosalyn put their head in their hands and Huey and Violet exchanged an anxious glance.
"Gosalyn," Violet said softly, "tell us to stop and it will be over. We'll just be here as friends and we'll stop assuming that there was something between the three of us."
"I can't," Gosalyn said, tears pooling in their eyes.
"Can't what?" Huey asked.
"I can't tell you to stop. I don't not like it, I just didn't know... I don't know what I'm feeling. I don't know what I'm supposed to be feeling."
"I know it's really complicated," Huey said, wiping away Gosalyn's tears, "feelings like these always are, Gos."
"All that time you were asking to spend with me… It was because you liked me. As more than just your friend Gosalyn. When did that happen?"
"We're not sure," Violet said, "But it happened for us at the same time. And we thought it had happened for you, but if it hasn't then we'll just let go of all of this."
"I don't want it to be meaningless. I don't want to go back to thinking that it's nothing."
"It's not nothing. Not if you want it to be something," Huey said
"I want it to be less complicated."
"Put simply then, we like you, Gosalyn. Huey and I like you, as more than friends. Do you like us? Yes or no?"
"Violet, you can't ask it like that," Huey said in a hushed tone.
"Yes," Gosalyn said suddenly.
"Yes, I like you both a lot. I didn't understand the feelings before. I didn't understand these butterflies before but… I'm glad I get it, now."
Huey beamed at her and Violet smiled like she'd known this would be the outcome all along.
"Can you kiss me again?" Gosalyn asked before they chickened out.
The pair nodded- their boyfriend and girlfriend, they supposed- and each pressed a kiss to Gosalyn's cheek.
"I'm a little hopeless when it comes to romance," Gosalyn admitted.
"That's okay, 'cause we're hopeless romantics. It'll balance out," Huey promised, leaning over to seal the deal with another kiss.
Note- I totally believe in platonic butterflies and platonic soulmates, so disregard that line outside of this fic lol.
