Hello readers, here is the next chapter of finding peace. We will see how Lincoln has been affected by his family and how they have treated him. For fans of Beyond the Lie, I am currently working on the next chapter of that story and hope to get it finished soon. Also, to clarify. This is not a harem story. Anyways, let's begin.
Lincoln's eyes slowly opened as the sound of his alarm clock could be heard to his side. He groggily reached and was able to turn it off. He was still tired from the show from yesterday as well from all the mental pain he went through yesterday. Getting out of bed, he sighed as he changed out of his pajamas and headed downstairs. He took a seat next to Lynn as he put some eggs on his plate. He looked at all of his sisters. They were all doing their usual morning routines. Although he noticed Luan now had her hair down instead of a ponytail. Leni asked why and Luan said she was trying a new style. None of them seemed phased by what happened last night. This angered Lincoln, did none of them realize how badly they hurt his feelings. All of them, including his parents, pushed him aside in favor of Lola. Lincoln scowled as he started eating. His facial expression caught the attention of his sister Luna.
"Something wrong bro."
Lincoln ignored her and continued eating. This caught the attention of the rest of the loud sisters. Lynn seemed to catch on about why he was upset.
"Seriously Lincoln, are you still upset about yesterday. It really wasn't a big deal." Lynn said
Lincoln continued ignoring his sisters. Trying to eat all his food and leave as soon as possible.
Lola scoffed, "Well I won my pageant so I think it was worth it in the end. Will go see your dumb band another day."
Lincoln slammed his hand on the table, surprising the rest of his sisters.
"It's not dumb." he muttered
Lincoln removed his plates and left the kitchen, heading upstairs to get his things ready for the school day. He packed his books into his bag along with his binders and computer. He really was not in the mood to get a ride in vanzilla and would rather walk to school. As he walked down the steps, he heard his sisters still in the kitchen. Conversing about something.
"I feel bad for Linky."
"Don't be Leni he's just being a baby." he heard Lynn say
"Yeah, besides I literally didn't want to go anyway. The music is all violent and gross, I would take your princess pageants over that music anyday Lola."
"Sigh, you just don't understand it."
"Thank you Lori, at least us pageant participants have class unlike them."
Everything his sisters were saying pissed him off, they thought his music was stupid. Well he could say a lot of negative things about his sisters hobbies and the events he has to go to for them. He could tell Lori how stupid golf was, or how insane Lana was for doing alligator wrestling. But they all made sacrifices, after all they were a family. He wouldn't even care if they went and didn't like it. He just wanted them to show that they cared enough to even show up. But they didn't. He then heard more voices.
"That's not nice guys, we all help each other in this family. I didn't go because I was babysitting, but you all should have gone. This seemed to be important for Lincoln."
"Jeez Luan, no need to get so defensive. I'm sure the twerp will get over it soon."
Lincoln was surprised, why was Luan getting so defensive of him. Was it because of her friendship with Chris? Lincoln shrugged and walked towards the front door. Leaving the loud house and heading towards school. Dark clouds covered the sky, and after only a few min. He started to feel raindrops. Lincoln groaned, stopping to think about what to do. He could either sprint to school and arrive really tired, or walk back home and deal with his sisters. He ended up choosing neither when a car that he recognized was driving on the road pulled over onto the curb right next to where he was standing. The window slid down, revealing Max behind the wheel.
"Hey Linc, let me give you a ride to school. I don't want you to get sick."
"Thanks Max." Lincoln got into the car as it drove off.
The two sat in uncomfortable silence with Lincoln resting on his hand, the only sound being the rain and the windshield wipers. Max cleared his throat before speaking.
"Something the matter of Lincoln."
Lincoln sighed, "Just my sisters."
"What'd they do?"
Lincoln turned to look at Max
"Did you happen to see any of my family in the crowd when we played?"
Max looked at Lincoln confused before turning to look back at the road. "No I didn't"
Lincoln paused for a second before speaking again, "Well they were supposed to show up. But ended up going to one of my sister's pageants instead."
"What really?" Max said surprised
"Yeah, the one time I asked them to come to an event. They chose to go help my sister, who has done 10s of 100s of pageants. They didn't even feel that bad about it, they acted like it was no big deal. I even caught a few of them, especially Lori, saying they were glad that they didn't go and that the music was violent and dumb."
Max didn't say anything, trying to process what Lincoln just said. Lincoln knew he was probably surprised that his good friend Lori did and said those things. They drove in silence for a bit until Max pulled up to the middle school and put the car in Park. Lincoln reached for the door handle. But Max stopped him, putting a hand on his shoulder.
"Listen Lincoln, I'm gonna be honest with you. I'm not very good with comforting stuff. But I am going to tell you that you should not feel bad. It's their loss that they didn't go to the show. I'm honestly shocked Lori said those things. But you shouldn't listen to them. Don't let others put you down, lots of people loved what we did. If people didn't like it, then why was everyone going crazy last night?"
Lincoln smiled at what Max said.
"What I'm trying to say is that you shouldn't listen to them, if they aren't treating you well. Then just enjoy playing music for the crowd and yourself. Don't feel pressured to satisfy your family if they won't give you a chance."
Lincoln thought about what Max just said. Maybe he was right, time and time again he tried to impress his family, and always he was pushed aside. So why should he be so stressed about impressing his family, he should just play music for the crowd and for his enjoyment.
"Thanks Max, that really made me feel better."
"Good man, now get to school. I don't want you to be late."
The two gave each other a fistbump before Lincoln got out of Maxs car and headed towards the school building.
Scene Change:
Chris was currently waiting outside of Royald Woods high school before school started, looking for a certain person. After he and Luan shared their first kiss last night. He walked her home with the two holding hands, not separating until they arrived at her house. She said goodbye and walked inside. On the way back to his house, his mind was racing. Not only did he just have his first kiss, but he also might have a girlfriend now. The two haven't spoken since then and Chris wanted to just talk with her about what they were now.
Eventually, Chris spotted Luan who was walking with her friends from the comedy club. He was surprised to see that she didn't have her hair in a ponytail. He waited till the group separated and Luan was on her own, he started walking over to her. Luan saw Chris walking over and she immediately smiled. She started walking towards him and without hesitation, enveloped him in a hug. Chris would have been surprised by this usually, but now this just made him happy. He returned the hug, putting her arms around her. Some other students walking by watched them, a few giving Chris a thumbs up. They stood there for a little while until Luan spoke.
"Hey"
"Hey, can I talk to you about something?"
Luan broke from the hug and looked at him smiling, "Sure"
The two walked towards the bleachers of the football field and sat down.
"So, what did you want to talk about?"
"Well, I just wanna make sure. Are we boyfriend and girlfriend now?"
Luan looked at him a bit surprised before smirking, "Well, considering we kissed last night and everything. I'd say we are."
Chris smiled at what she said. Chris took Luans hands and intertwined them with his. Luan blushed at the action. "Well I'm glad then, I really like you."
Luan giggled, "I like you too Chrissy."
Luan gave him a kiss on the cheek and Chris blushed, this made Luan smile.
"Can you do something for me though Chris."
"Sure Luan, what is it?"
"Well, can we not tell others about our relationship? The rest of my sisters will go crazy if they find out about you, and I just don't want to deal with that."
Chris thought about what she said, he was grateful she wanted to keep their relationship on the down low not because she was embarrassed. But because of her sisters. Luan continued to speak.
"I'm gonna tell Lincoln soon because he is pretty chill about it, but let's not be super public about it."
Chris looked down, still thinking. Luan started to get worried he felt annoyed, but he raised his head and smiled.
"Sure, no prob."
"Thanks" she said smiling
Chris released one of his hands and started playing with her hair carefully.
"I see you have your hair down."
"Yeah, I like what you said. About me being beautiful."
"Well you are."
Luan blushed at the comment.
Chris released his other hand and stopped playing with her hair. He grabbed his backpack and put it on.
"Alright, I need to go see a teacher about work. Talk to you soon."
"See you soon."
Luan expected that to be the end, but was surprised when Chris leaned in and pecked her on the lips.
"For the record, I think ponytails are also cute."
Chris started walking away from the bleachers, leaving a red faced smiling Luan.
Scene Change:
It was currently lunch time at Royal woods middle school. Lincoln and Anthony had just gotten their food and started walking towards their usual spot.
"So I was thinking. Maybe we should go back and perform more at Misfits. It's good practice to play live."
"I agree with Linc, yesterday was great. I can't wait to do it again."
"LINCOLN, ANTHONY."
The two boys turned around to see Tabby running towards them. Stopping right in front of them/
"Hey Tabby what's up?"
"Hey mates, I was wondering if you wanted to sit with us today. I wanna talk to you guys." Tabby started pointing towards a table. The two followed where she was pointing and when they saw what table it was. Their jaws almost hit the floor. It was the girls table.
Lincoln scanned the table and he recognized everyone and started listing them off in his head. "Girl Jordan, Cookie, Polly Pain, Giggles, oh god Cristine." But who Lincoln saw last terrified him, Ronnie Anne Santiago was sitting there. Chatting with Girl Jordan. Lincoln hadn't spoken with Ronnie Anne since their last confirmation in the stairway. He caught her looking at him constantly, and when he tried looking at her. She always turned the other way.
The two boys turned to look at each other.
"Are you sure Tabby?"
"Come on mate, you'll be fine." she stated as she grabbed both boys' hands. Before they knew it, they were at the table.
All the girls at the table looked at the boys. Most of the girls smiled, but Cristine looked a bit uncomfortable and Ronnie Anne looked a bit miffed.
The two boys took their seats, sitting across from Tabby. Lincoln sat next to Girl Jordan.
"Hey Jordan, how's dodgeball?"
"It's going pretty well, Lincoln. Although it's much more difficult now that we have older kids. Your sister Lynn is crazy with all her good luck rituals."
Lincoln angrily picked his food after she mentioned Lynns rituals, "Fucking good luck rituals." he muttered to himself.
Tabby cleared her through, snapping Lincoln out of his thoughts.
"So Linc. I have to say that you two were really good yesterday."
"You think so." Anthony asked raising in an eyebrow
"Of course mate, Deftones are not easy. Especially on vocals."
Lincoln shrugged, "We did okay. We're gonna try and perform more at Misfits."
"Wait, you guys are in a band."
The two boys turned to see polly pain looking at them.
"Yeah, we call ourselves Hysteria, mostly just play metal." Lincoln stated simply
"Oh, that's cool." Polly said before turning to talk with Cristine.
"What metal do you guys like?" Tabby asked interested
Lincoln spoke first, "Anthony's the one that got me into metal. I like some modern stuff, especially Korn. But I basically like everything.
"I'm mostly the same as Lincoln, but I love thrash the most. I'm a diehard Slayer fan."
"That's awesome mate, my father took me to see Slayer before they stopped touring."
"Really, that's crazy Tabby."
The two started engaging in a separate conversation. Leading to Lincoln just focusing on eating. After a few min, he felt a presence watching him. Looking up, he was surprised to see Cristine, just looking at him. Lincoln swallowed his food.
"Hi Cristine"
"Hi Lincoln"
"Schools going good"
Cristine simply nodded her head
"Good," he said before he continued eating. Lincoln guessed that she was embarrassed stil about the video incident back in elementary school. He had lost his feelings for her a while back, so he wasn't super broken up about it. But Lincoln knew he should make things right.
"Listen Cristine, I know this happened a while ago. But I am genuinely sorry about the video incident. I wasn't thinking and was just trying to find a way for my sisters to forgive me. I wasn't thinking how it would affect you and I'm sorry."
Christine didn't say anything for a little bit, until he saw a small smile appear on her face. "Thanks Lincoln I appreciate it."
Lincoln smiled at the response. He knew that things might never be normal between the two, but at least there was closure. Lincoln breathed a sigh of relief. He got up to throw out his food. But when he returned, he saw Ronnie Anne eyeing him. Lincoln walked over to where she was sitting.
"You got something to say to me, Ronnie Anne."
Ronnie Anne looked at him and narrowed her eyes, "Nope"
Lincoln shrugged his shoulders and went to sit back down.
Tabby noticed him sitting back down. Tabby and Anthony just kept on talking til the bell rang.
Tabby stopped the two boys from getting up.
"I wanted to speak with your band about something."
"What about?" Lincoln asked
"You'll see." Tabby responded mysteriously
Lincoln and Anthony looked at each other before silently agreeing. "Come with us after school, i'll text the guys to meet up."
Scene Change:
All 4 boys were sitting in Anthony's garage with Tabby just arriving
"What did you want to talk about?" Chris asked
Tabby scratched the back of her head, "Well I saw how good your guy's were and I wanted to make an offer."
The boys were surprised, "What kind of offer?"
"Well, you guys know how my dad does the musical event on halloween."
"Yeah"
Tabby and Sam's fathers always held a musical event in royal woods on Halloween. It was a very popular event and Lincoln definitely knew about it as Luna would never stop talking about it. Bands would go on and perform outside and do classic songs by the Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who, Heart, Queen, and many others. It was mostly a family event, that is until 9:00 hit. At 9:00, they would start to play heavier, crazier music. Anyone below middle school level wasn't even allowed in due to some of the music having swearing and middle schoolers were restricted to seats. High Schoolers could go in the mosh pit though. He heard Luna through the years talk about some of the bands during the year. He recalled her coming home from the slayer one bouncing off the walls. They also did a Metallica and Megadeth year, as well as a year for Motorhead when Lemmy died. He was actually thinking about going to it this year.
"Well, I was actually wondering if you guys wanted to play in the aftershow."
All 4 boys were shocked
"Seriously."
"Yeah"
Lincoln thought about this. Luna would probably see him, as well as other people from his school. He also wanted to know what the theme would be. But it seems like Chris had the same idea.
"What's the theme going to be?"
"That's the thing, we're trying to figure it out."
The 5 teenagers in the garage started suggesting ideas. Max wanted to do Pantera, Chris wanted to do some abstract black metal band. They couldn't seem to agree on anything. But then something like a light bulb turned on in Anthony's head.
"Hey Tabby, how many musicians does your dad know?"
"Uh, I don't know. He knows a lot of people."
"I remembered Lincoln told me you guys also dress up during the concert."
"Yeah, my dad's good friend specializes in replicating costumes."
Anthony then snapped his fingers.
"Guys, let's do Slipknot."
"WHAT" everyone collectively said
"Yeah, us 4 plus 5 other guys dress up like Slipknot. We wear jumpsuits and masks, it would be awesome. Chris you could be Corey, you know you could do the vocals. I can be Joey, Max could be Paul, and Lincoln could be Jim."
"That sounds bloody Amazing." Tabby said
"I'm in." Max said
"Yeah, I'm pretty good at Corey vocals."
Lincoln looked at Anthony shocked. "Dude, I can't be Jim. He's huge and has black hair."
"Linc, don't worry about height, we're just a cover band, and we can dye your hair."
Lincoln looked at Anthony and thought about it. The idea of performing Slipknot on stage would be incredible, he also would be wearing a mask, so his identity wouldn't have to be revealed. Yeah, this would be awesome.
"Alright, I'm in."
Tabby smiled, "Excellent mate, I will talk to my dad about it and see what he thinks."
Later that night Lincoln got a text from Tabby, her dad agreed to the idea.
