Ok ok ok, I had some time this evening to write another short little follow up chapter for this story, just for you, MAURA UK! Thank-you for always being so generous with your reviews and so kind! Xx
This takes place after the episode, 7x21, Ending Happy.
Enjoy, friends!
"So, I make you happy, huh?" Sara smiled and pursed her lips as she glanced over at him in the drivers seat. They were nearly home, and the morning Las Vegas sun was hot on her face through the windshield.
He was tired.
Understandably.
They'd been called in to work late last night on only a few hours of rest, and had worked through to the following morning. She didn't have the brain capacity to do the mental math, but Sara figured they had gotten about three hours' sleep in the last 48.
Finally, the case was nearly wrapped. It had been fairly straight forward despite all of the obscure variables, and didn't involve much presence from them for the remainder of the process at the lab.
Sara, tapped out on overtime by several hours, was forced to go home for twelve hours. She didn't mind one bit. There may have been a time, years ago, when she would have fought it and worked another shift... but nowadays she had more important things to do at home, and more importantly, someone to spend her time off with.
Grissom, on the other hand, while not tapped out in overtime just yet, was tapped out energy wise so he too excused himself to go home to rest under the guise that he needed to bring Sara home. A believable situation, seeing as he had 'picked her up for the drive to Sugar Cane Ranch, and her car wasn't at the lab'. It wasn't a lie, he was bringing her home. Just not to the home the rest of the lab expected.
Finally.
With a grin, he glanced over at her quickly.
"You know you do." He offered, with a shrug.
So very Grissom of him.
She decided to leave it at that, knowing he was beyond himself with exhaustion, and instead reached over to his hand and gave it a squeeze.
As they pulled up to their now shared condo, they wordlessly made their way to the door.
Sara, a foot ahead of him, reached in her jacket pocket for her house key and unlocked the door for him, letting him pass by her into their cool and dark sanctuary.
"I'll start the kettle. Go wash up." She instructed, before she placed a quick kiss to his lips.
Before he could protest, Sara had tossed her jacket over the foyer rail, and was half way down the industrial style stairs to the open concept kitchen.
God, it still felt odd sometimes that this was her new normal.
She watched from the corner of her eye as he slumped himself away into their bedroom, and heard the shower start moments later. Preparing their teas quickly, she brought the hot cups of peppermint to steep on their respective bedside tables and then tossed her own clothes into the hamper on top of his.
The bathroom was steamy when she entered. It smelled of his body wash, and again, the simple domesticity brought a smile to her face.
If she had have told herself three years ago that she would one day be sharing a home and a shower with Gil Grissom, Sara would have laughed in her own face. If she had told herself three years ago that the same Gil Grissom had essentially told her he loved her earlier in the day, she would have probably drank away the fantasy until she blacked out.
"Care for some company?" She hummed as she pulled back the shower door and poked her head in.
The sight before her nearly broke her heart.
He was standing, slumped over, half asleep in the steaming hot stream of water with his forehead resting on the cool tile wall.
Her voice roused him with a start, and he couldn't help but laugh at himself.
"You know, I don't think you want to know how the last guy I met who fell asleep and drown in a hot running shower ended up." Sara teased as she stepped inside and wrapped her long arms around his body.
"I wouldn't have drown. This is a walk in shower."
Sara rolled her eyes and smiled at his technicality, and buried her face into his neck, exhaling the day.
They stood in their embrace in the hot water for several minutes, until the water began to run cold. Stepping out first, Grissom handed Sara a clean fluffy towel with a wink before silently going about his bed routine and heading to the next room.
She joined him a moment later, brushing her teeth and throwing her hair up in a messy, damp ponytail before crawling up next to him in their bed.
It still smelled of their sex, and Sara sighed with contentment as she curled her legs around his naked warm body. Finally back where they should have been all this time.
As if he could read her mind, he turned off the bedside light, their teas forgotten, and wrapped his arm around her as it had been the last time they'd been here.
"I love you, too." Sara whispered into his chest, and immediately felt his heart rate increase and his skin under her cheek flush.
She gave him a reassuring squeeze of her arms and kissed his collarbone before looking up at his face in the fake darkness their curtains provided. She just smiled.
So did he, before kissing her lips gently. Tenderly.
Laying her head back down against his chest, Sara closed her eyes and began to drift off to the steady, relaxing rhythm of his heart.
