Entry 87: Parasite Nymphs

"Mollie should definitely write with that." Explained a particular Nymph that just 'wore' some sort of worm... thing around her neck. None of the Trio wanted to touch that damn thing. Sonata kind of did at first until it hissed at her. "The guide I have. Just remember the rules..."

"Uh... what?" Sonata asked. "What were the rules again?"

"If a parasite's red, you're definitely dead. If a parasite's blue, five minutes to save you. If a parasite's orange, be safe and keep a two meter-range."

"What?" Tania raised an eyebrow at that one.

"Nothing rhymes with 'orange' so we had to get creative with that one. Same with 'purple.' Anyway, if a parasite has two heads, it'll be half the time before you're dead. If it's fuzzy, it's a counter-parasite that will help fight out any invaders. But if it's fuzzy and has three eyes down the back, regardless of how else it looks, it will do harm and cut off your arm. There's more that I wrote in the poster," she took out a gigantic stapled pile of papers, "and most importantly... avoid the green parasites at all costs."

They were in a forest that seemed normal, but was teeming with weird green flowers that infected their way through the trees, a classic sign of it having a shitload of unique parasitic monsters.

Sonata learned her lesson from the Bacteria Patches and got herself prepared for that. She might have made mistakes but she wasn't a total fucking science-denying idiot.

"Yeah um... yeah..." Sonata herself though was stunned. And Vince was next to her. She didn't like that in that particular instance, since Vince would often think something was crawling up his foot or something, and he jumped in the air swatting randomly. "I'll give it some thought... a lot of... thought..."

"No, I promise," the Parasite Nymph said, "it's easy to remember all of the types of parasitic monsters here!"

"Mollie normally... likes creatures and stuff but I uh, no offense, think she might draw the line here..." Sonata replied.

Vince jumped again, chopping the air in front of him.

"AHHHH!" He shouted. "AH! AH! GET AWAY FROM ME, BRAIN WORM!"

...

"OH MY GOD THIS ONE IS SOOOOO CUTE TOOOOO!" Mollie cheered as she pet this teal worm-looking thing with three mouths on its left side and three eyes on its right.

Vince was backing up slowly, looking like he might puke. Sonata clasped her hands over her mouth. And even Tania looked like she had goosebumps.

The Parasite Nymph was giving Sonata a smirk. "See? She likes it here too."

"No I love it here!" Replied the Zoologist. "You're right this was worth the long trip! Can I live here instead of the Forest? The Forest... hasn't really been doing much for me since I got cured!"

"Uhhhhh... okay but don't be surprised if I don't really want to be around that often." Said Sonata. "It's not you, it's the biome."

"Oh yeah, hahaha! I can see that!"

Vince backed up to a tree, then he lept forward and drew out something called a Waterite Repeater. We'll get to the Waterite tools and their relatives in the story proper.

"So... about removing invasive species..." Tania said.

"Oh yeah! The best ones to get rid of garden pests, though, they kind of have a habit of bursting the bugs open from the inside out. Are you okay with that?"

Tania said "I don't see a problem with that." Which got Vince and Sonata to both freeze up and give her scared looks. Even Mollie looked a little unsettled.

Parasite Nymphs.

Many monsters of the world want to tear people inside out. These Nymphs would prefer going inside, and then... tearing... people... out? I thought I had something going here, but I didn't.

Preferred Environment: Hostlands.

Environment Threat Level: Extremely Severe without proper parasite repellant; Peaceful with.

Environment Stats: Wet. Humid/Warm. Moderate-Fantastic. Very Rare. Appears to be regular forests or caves at a glance, but closer look reveals irregular plant growth, the key trait being green flowers growing out of trees. Hosts plenty of parasitic creatures. Also unusually wet and warm. Wide-spread parasite repellant is capable of pushing all known parasites away from a potential host's body.

Other Names: Internal Nymphs, Hosting Nymphs, Invasive Nymphs, Infecting Nymphs (due to the Infectuous Biomes, this is considered a heavy slur).

Affinity: Water.

Color: Dull Green.

Traditional Costume Weapon: A worm-like accessory usually around the neck or slithering around a limb. It is fully-alive. Helps them in shrinking and entering a host, but is usually killed when they actually enter a host. When the Nymph emerges, they create a replacement, as is the usual case for many "loose" "outfits."

Vince's Comment: They're horrifying to have as enemies. Don't piss them off. Just don't.

Sonata's Comment: They freak me out a bit. I've met several nice ones, but still.

Tania's Comment: Parasite Nymphs.
Nymphae Parasitus.
These are some of the very few Nymphs with abilities relating to size-changing. They can become microscopic in size, but this is only stable if they have a suitable host of theirs. However, "host" can be almost anything with life to it, even robotic beings or those made of stone or other inorganic material. How they do this is unknown even to them, but our research has lead us to think that they can connect not with anything specific to the person's biology, but any source of a "pulsing waves" or life energy, something all "living" and undead beings have. They can infact infect the undead just as well. When infected, this is usually shown through flower-like growths from the host, and the Parasite Nymph can take over their body, which somehow grants a boost in strength of their magic. The Nature Warrior can then exit the body or wait until it decays at a variable process.

Closing AN:

Fun fact I actually drafted this one ahead of the numberical order that... I think pretty much every other chapter was written in. Because I originally wrote this to be Entry 61. I figured it would be more appropriate to push it here... for some reason.
