Entry 94: Positron Nymphs

Beginning AN:

Haha, probably one of the um... maybe just dumbest ideas on here. Basically I really really wanted there to be an "alternate electrical" one to counter with the Volt Nymphs being this sort of "yellow electricity" and... yeah I already wrote a few that could arguably be seen as that anyway. (Off the top of my head, Digital and Quick, and of course they're recent so that's why they're off the top of my head.)

Also this is another chapter of me just throwing out my science geek stuff.

"Yes, Sonata, any Nymph can make antimatter from their powers, even you and Tania, it's just a little easier with us."

Tania, Vince, and Sonata were absolutely surrounded by a crowd of not particularly patient-looking bluish Nymphs relaxing in underground lakes that were giving off blue sparks. Also drawing sparks towards it. The one that said the above continued:

"We don't... fancy ourselves as 'Antimatter Nymphs' though. We're more of a 'take the charge out of things and let nature and balance work things out.' It's like the difference between lack-of-heat magic and antiheat magic."

Vince tilted his head. "So what's magic that lets you shoot ice at something?"

"That's just 'spawning really cold stuff.'"

Sonata was just staring at her hands in confusion, almost as if she was waiting for something to happen. They glowed violet, alright, but she shook her head in frustration and it went off.

"Sonata, you should probably just stick to melee weapons." Tania told her, putting a hand on her back - after giving it some CAREFUL consideration. "That could make a large explosion if you're not careful. And, well, you aren't."

"Okay." She replied. "I've actually been trying at this for weeks, I've been meeting with the Positron Nymphs on my own."

The same Positron Nymph stepped out of the bath and went closer to the two. "Yeah 'Positron' was just the best name we could settle for ourselves in English. The rest were... awkward."

"I'm sure there's a guide on Nymph Variants, possibly written by Mollie, that covers all possible names and types in detail!" Tania said.

For some reason a horrible chill went down Vince's spine and Sonata's central inner gem vine-organ. They didn't know why. Because:

"Yeah, we should check that out." Vince said. "Ask Mollie about the Nymph entries."

"Sounds fair and fun! If we can remember."

They didn't remember.

This will become an important plot point. Just wait.

Anyway, one of the Positron Nymphs took out a small disc-shaped weapon and sent some sparks of blue lightning over to the ground between them. "Here, this is a tool we made. Sonata, if you're really in to annihilation-"

"Oh don't word it like that, she is." Tania said.

"True." Sonata added.

"-You can give this a spin. I don't really want it any more, and the auction... the auction, well-"

BOOM.

An explosion came from Sonata's hands, sending her flying back to the wall. She laughed.

"I think I managed to convert matter to antimatter." She said. "By accident."

Positron Nymphs.

You've seen explosives? You haven't seen explosives. At least, not until these Nymphs mess with the matter itself and aims it at your electrons themselves. BOOM!

Preferred Environment: Positron Lakes.

Environment Threat Level: Extremely Severe.

Environment Stats: Extremely wet. Temperate. Fantastic. Very rare. "Pools" of highly "positively-charged" water, and surrounding "blue electrical"-themed plant and animal life.

Other Names: Antimatter Nymphs, Positive-Charge Nymphs (technically the most accurate but this is still a stretch), Dark Matter Nymphs (very innacurate, as far as we know there is no such thing as Nymphs with ties to dark matter).

Affinity: Fire.

Color: Dull Cerulean.

Traditional Costume Weapon: Cackling sparks around their arms, legs, and occasionally forming various symbols on their chests. Helps them shoot positively-charged "bolts" at enemies. They can also drain the batteries of electronics, an ability often overlooked but with dire applications.

Vince's Comment: Hope you've raided Martian stuff, because the Influx Waver will have them running away screaming from you if any of them try to fight you. On the other hand, please don't use that on hostile Volt Nymphs. I'm not really sure how that works. I think the Waver and some of their other electrical tools are themed on their weird "blue lightning?"

Sonata's Comment: No, they are not literally made of antimatter. Otherwise you'd explode just from touching them. Otherwise the air around them would explode just from touching them. How do I know this? When Ragz first told me about antimatter, I went "Oh shit that sounds kickass what is it some kind of magic force that hates matter?" He went on and I tuned most of it out but it's basically just matter but the atoms are backwards. "Anti-water" is literally just water with the charges flipped and if it touches regular water or regular anything else, kaboom. It's kind of boring.
I'm glad they're more like regular ol' Nymphs than they may seem at a glance, actual literal "Anti-Nymphs" that could cancel me out just from touching... at best, it sounds like the plot of a really shitty star-crossed lovers story. And I hate that. Mostly because for the longest time, it felt like that was my life with Tania.

Tania's Comment: Positron Nymphs.
Nymphae Positivum.
The currently-accepted common name is very inaccurate. They do not have control over positrons, just postively-charged liquids or other material. Unsurprisingly, they are the equals and opposites to Volt Nymphs, but not to such an extent that they would annihilate one-another. Volt Nymphs as well have powers over antimatter and figuring them out, it just - on average - is more difficult for them to master it, the cost of their greater ease with mastery of lightning from the sky.
Also, positive lightning and negative lightning are things that can happen without any interference of Nymphs. Both of them still hurt the unprepared. Both are still the anger of nature.

Closing AN:

For some reason I originally wrote the Day 29 message here... I think it was because I was thinking in terms of six chapters rather than four, going off of how I was writing the roughs and not the finals.

"Why have more than one type of lightning" because I like the idea of overly complicated magic and elemental systems like that okay.

So anyway coming up next is our FINAL VANILLA BIOME! You can probably tell what it is. Since I directly talked about it earlier. Like, real early. In Part 1 even.
