It had been a month since Lee had gotten over his cold. Oscar was making good progress with his weight loss, Jiro was getting along with Lin, and Drama Club seemed to be going on with minimal issues. With everything going well for so long, Lee just knew something bad was coming. He could feel it.
In fact, something was making him a bit unnerved. Trevor would usually hum a tune while he worked on costumes. He had stopped since his mother died, which is a reasonable and expected result of loss. However, he had this expression and aura about him that seemed cold and hateful. The bear's friendly demeanor was completely gone. He didn't even seem like the same person anymore.
There was one thing in particular that Lee was noticing. Something he really hoped he was imagining. The bear looked bulkier than he used to and his uniform was starting to look tight on him. The chimera was constantly eyeing the bear during club and noticed that Trevor hadn't been eating any honey at all. Lee was feeling incredibly concerned.
During practice, he decided to try to confront the situation. He set his script down and walked over to him. "Hey, Trevor-senpai?"
The ursine didn't smile or look up from his work. "Yeah?"
The chimera gulped. "Have you been taking your muscle suppressor?"
Trevor paused. He looked up at Lee and smiled. "Of course I have."
Lee felt even more nervous. Trevor's smile looked incredibly fake. It looked like a mask the ursine was forcing himself to wear. There was no warmth, friendliness, or happiness coming from it anymore.
The chimera steeled himself. "It's just… I never see you eating honey anymore."
Trevor had a look of realization on his face. A look that screamed "I got caught." The bear chuckled, his laugh sounding as fake as his smile looked. "I guess I just haven't been in as much pain lately. It kinda comes and goes, y'know?"
Lee looked doubtful. "It's weird that it's been a month though. And you look way bulkier than you used to."
The bear gave him another fake look. One of sadness and concern. "I don't like being called a liar, Lee-kun." The false smile returned. "I've just been stress eating lately. I'm probably just getting fat. That's why I look so bulky. I'll just have to try and get a diet going. Don't worry about me, Lee-kun." He chuckled.
The chimera still looked concerned. "I-if you're sure. I just remember Dad telling me that Riz lost control and ate Tem because he wasn't taking his pills."
Trevor looked surprised. Then, that look of surprise turned into one of pure rage as he glared at Lee with hateful eyes. The bear quickly and aggressively stood up, looking down at the chimera with a furious expression.
The wolf-rabbit took a step back out of surprise and fear, his instincts telling him that he was in great danger. The entire club turned to look at the suddenly hostile bear.
Trevor growled. "What the helldid you just say to me?"
Lee gulped. "Senpai, I just-"
The ursine snapped at the chimera. "You think I'm like him?! Am I some sort of dangerous monster to you?!"
Jolene approached with a stern look. "That's enough, Trevor-kun! Whatever you're fighting over, you need to cut it out now!"
The bear didn't take his eyes off of Lee. He looked so angry and hateful it was actually making the chimera tremble a bit. Then, the ursine sat back down and looked at the chimera with apologetic eyes. "I'm sorry, Lee-kun. I didn't mean to lose my temper."
Lee gulped. "I-it's okay."
Jolene smiled. "That'smore like it." The sheep stepped away and Lee decided to just go back to his lines. However, he still had concerns about the bear's mental stability. Maybe he can ask his parents about it.
Olivia and Esther chatted about miscellaneous things on the way back to the canine dorms. The two kissed deeply and passionately.
The lab smiled as she hugged her girlfriend. The two held each other for quite a while occasionally kissing. Then, a familiar sound from the woods.
Crack!
Esther's eyes widened and her pupils turned to slits as she grinned maliciously. She sprinted, top speed into the woods, and pounced on something.
Olivia could hear loud squawking. "L-let me go! Ahh!"
The white tiger came out of the woods with twigs and burs in her fur, but a satisfied smile. She had her arm wrapped around the neck of a bluejay that was half her size.
The panicked bird struggled. "P-please! Just lemme go!"
Olivia adjusted her glasses and smirked as she poked the bird in the beak. "Maaaaybe we will. If you answer our questions."
Esther grinned maliciously. "And if you don't cooperate, I may have to break a wing or two."
The bird gulped. "I-I'll tell you anything! Don't hurt me!"
The lab scowled. "Why have you been stalking us?"
"I-I get paid to take pictures of students. I really need the money!"
Esther glared. "You got a camera?"
The bird nodded. "R-right pocket."
The white tiger reached into the bird's pocket and pulled out a phone. "Code?"
"Zero four one three."
Olivia smirked. "Let me guess. April the thirteenth is your birthday."
The bird looked alarmed. "Y-yeah?"
The lab snorted. "Neveruse your birthday as a code."
Esther swiped through the gallery app on the phone. However, the only photo she could find was one that the bird just took of the two girls. The tiger glared at him. "Hey! How come there's only one picture?"
The bird whined. "I have to delete them after sending them to her."
Olivia raised an eyebrow. "'Her?'"
The avian groaned. "I work for Meredith-san. She pays me to keep an eye on gay students."
Esther gritted her teeth. "And whydoes she need that?"
The bluejay sighed. "She does it to get 'em in trouble. She hatesgay people."
The lab crossed her arms. "Did you take any photos of us?"
The bird grimaced. "I-I was just doing my job…"
The tiger's eyes turned to slits again as she started choking the avian harder. "Olivia got banned from that garden because of you! Do you have anyidea how much it meant to her?!"
Olivia gave her girlfriend a stern look. "Esther! That's enough!"
Esther scoffed but loosened her grip anyway.
The bird wheezed. "L-look… you're wasting your time. Shedeletes them too. And you're not gonna find evidence of her contacting me, either. We talk over text and delete the messages too."
The white tiger snarled in frustration. But then she noticed her girlfriend didn't look as upset.
Olivia sneered. "Oh, those photos and messages aren't gone yet. We just need a little help from someone more tech-savvy than us."
The lab put the cellphone in her pocket and poked the avian on the beak. "We'll be needing this phone. But youneed to pretend you gave it to us willingly out of guilt. If not, I won't stop Esther here from strangling you next time."
The bird looked like he wanted to cry. "O-okay…"
Esther released him and he fell to the ground, coughing and gasping before very quickly flying away.
Olivia scoffed. "Coward."
The white tiger looked at the canine curiously. "Can we reallyget those photos back?"
The lab nodded. "I may not be a computer expert, but even Iknow that deleted files can be recovered." She gave her girlfriend a hug and wagged her tail. "We'll deal with this tomorrow. Goodnight, Esther."
Esther grinned and leaned down, giving her girlfriend a kiss on the lips. "Goodnight, Liv."
A tired Ibuki yawned after getting back from Drama Club. He knew he was in for a long night too. There's a lot of studying he needs to do for the upcoming tests.
When he went inside the dorm, Jiro was there early, as usual. For the first time in a while, Jiro was back in that manic state. This confused Ibuki. He had largely stopped doing that after he started to express his morbid side through his normal art.
The deer-wolf approached. "Hey, Jiro-kun."
Immediately, as if by reflexes, Jiro tossed the sketchpad behind him so fast that the chimera could hear it bounce off the wall.
Ibuki raised an eyebrow. "Haven't we been over this?"
The fox gulped. "I-it's different this time."
The deer-wolf tilted his head. "Different how? Let me see it."
Jiro shook his head vigorously. "N-no. I can't show you this one. It's… worse than usual."
Ibuki scowled and put his hands on his hips. "Well, now I needto see it. You've got me incredibly concerned."
The vulpine bit his lip. "I-I can't."
The deer-wolf groaned and rolled his eyes. "Either you show it to me right now or I steal it from you while you're sleeping."
Jiro fell silent for a bit before sighing. He reached behind him and grabbed the sketchpad, showing it to Ibuki.
The deer-wolf gasped when he saw what was on the page. It was a drawing of Riz the bear lying on the ground, dead, his throat bleeding after being slit open. Standing over him was Trevor, whose hands were drenched in blood. The enraged face the younger bear had was so intense that it made him look more like a monster or demon than a beast.
Ibuki looked up at the vulpine artist with concern.
Jiro looked away. "Nightmare. Been having it for a while. Trevor-senpai has been scaring me lately."
Ibuki nodded. "Yeah, I heard him yelling at Lee earlier today. He's taking his mother's death very badly."
The fox set down the sketchpad. "I… I don't know what it is. But I have a terrible feeling like this is gonna be more than a nightmare eventually. You have no idea how hateful he was when he yelled at his dad at Tem's memorial."
The deer-wolf rubbed the bridge between his eyes. "I reallyhope you're wrong. But I don't even know anymore. He seems like a different person."
Jiro nodded. "I hope I'm wrong too."
The rest of their roommates arrived, so they decided to stow the discussion so they could shower. But Trevor's sudden change in personality and Jiro's drawing still weighed on Ibuki's mind.
As soon as Lee got back to his dorm, he jumped into his bunk and pulled out his phone.
Lee: "Trevor-senpai has been acting really weird. He's been angry all the time."
Haru: "Well, yeah. Of course he is. Somebody murdered his mom."
Lee: "Wait. You know about that?"
Legosi: "He came to talk with us right after you left."
Lee: "Oh, that's right."
Haru: "I feel so bad for him. I can only imagine how much pain he's in."
Lee: "What did you guys talk about?"
Legosi: "Apparently, he knew the story about Louis defeating Riz was a lie. So he was asking me questions about it."
Haru: "We aren't supposed to talk about it to anybody. But his mother just died. And he IS Riz's son. So we figured he deserved the truth."
Lee: "What did you tell him?"
Legosi: "The basics. It was New Years Eve, we fought at night under the Gazura Bridge, and that I had to eat Louis-senpai's leg to win."
Haru: "Every time I hear that story, the leg part never gets LESS weird."
Lee: "Was that it?"
Legosi: "Well, right before he left he asked me where I got my scar. I told him that Riz gave it to me."
Haru: "He apologized for what his father did. But we told him he didn't need to."
Legosi: "He was very polite and friendly."
Lee: "Well, he hasn't been polite or friendly recently. Even worse, I don't think he's taking his muscle suppressor. He looks bulkier every day."
Legosi: "Then you need to tell someone. A bear that refuses to take their muscle suppressor is a very serious problem. Other students could be in danger."
Lee: "I don't want to get him in trouble though. He's already been suspended once."
Legosi: "One student getting suspended is the least of your problems right now, Lee. Another unfortunate herbivore could end up like Tem."
Lee: "He's not like his dad though."
Legosi: "Who he's related to isn't the issue. Riz's son or not, he's still a bear. He's DANGEROUS if he's not taking his pills."
Haru: "You said he hasn't been friendly recently. What has he done?"
Lee: "At first he was just grumpy-looking. But when I brought up the pill thing and how he could end up doing the same thing his dad did, he went off on me."
Haru: "I guess I can understand that. He seems to have a burning hatred for him."
Legosi: "Your friend is going down a dark path. He may not be as psychotic as Riz, but hatred that intense will lead to terrible things. You need to report him."
Lee bit his lip and tried to think. He just wanted some sort of solution to the situation. Get Trevor back to his old self and make him take his pills again. The chimera was hesitant to snitch on his friend.
Legosi: "Lee, if you don't report him, I will."
Lee was caught off guard. His father didn't usually offer ultimatums like this. He was truly feeling like he was between a rock and a hard place.
Lee: "Let me talk to him. If I can't talk him into taking his pills, I'll report him. Is that okay?"
There was a very long pause.
Legosi: "Alright. But make sure you tell me how he reacted. And be careful what you say to him. I don't want to see you two fighting and repeating history."
Lee: "I'll be careful, Dad."
Legosi: "Good. Take care of yourself, Lee."
Haru: "Goodnight, Lee. I love you."
Lee: "I love you guys too."
