A few days later, there was a group riding lesson with Maxi and Mini instructing their respective age levels in the same lesson.
The other seven Saddle Club members saw that Katie and Comanche were an excellent team.
"Nice job, Katie! You even remembered to start Comanche off slow, easy, and gently." Maxine exclaimed.
"Thanks, Maxi, Whoa! What's with you, Boy?" Katie asked Comanche.
Katie rolled off Comanche's back as he was now lying down.
"Quick, Evie," Risa called out. "phone Doctor Carole!"
"Right, Ri!" Evie said.
Evie got out her cellphone and dialed Carole's work phone number.
While Evie was on her cellphone, Katie was beginning to worry about Comanche.
"Oh! Risa! It's all my fault," Katie said, beginning to sob uncontrollably. "I was being too reckless with my beloved horse, Comanche!"
That was when Carole arrived on scene along with Liam, Stevie and Phil, and Melanie and David at her side.
"Comanche! What's wrong, Boy?" Melanie asked.
"I'm sorry, Missis Lake and Missis Atwood," Katie sobbed bitterly. "I'm jinxed! I killed Comanche! Now, he will have to be put down!"
Carole detected the tone of anguish in Katie's voice and knew the feeling all too well.
