A Thunderous Giant
Two years later
The gigantic freak storm had moved from the arid areas of western Armenia, past the Hittites and around the coast of Thrace approaching the mountain home of the Olympian Gods. The freak storm/storms which were divine intervention had left a trail of leveled villages, towns, and even cities. It didn't help that a series of earthquakes and other natural disasters had followed the ginormous storm. The Olympians had begun to pay attention to it as it arrived at the western coast of Anatolia and they had continuously bombarded it with everything they could spare from their war effort.
The Olympian retaliation hadn't managed to make any other results than the revelation that it wasn't just a very strong storm and was a titanic deity who was a hundred feet tall with storms, winds, and lightning surrounding him like a shroud. The giant had stopped its seemingly unstoppable march for a year-long visit to one of the children of Phorcys and Ceto and according to the scouting party of some clay soldiers, they had been plopping out one monster after the other with them terrorizing the surrounding areas of the Aeolian Countryside managing to win all their skirmishes with even hundreds of Olympian clay warriors.
The monsters were fortunately dispatched by a few lightning bolts and earthen hands of Zeus and Perseus respectively. The unfortunate part about that was the souls of the monsters who managed to form a bond to Tartarus and make themselves immortal which meant that without cursing or locking up every monster these monsters would just come back every time they kicked the bucket.
After his little affair, the giant had continued his journey around what would become the Aegean Sea and he was now only a few days away from the Olympian Headquarters. This predicament had halted the Olympians' gains in their rebellion against the Titans and they were currently discussing their next move.
Perseus POV
I was for once having most of my attention centered on my fellow counselors debating. The storm giant as they had categorized it was probably the biggest challenge yet. Because while the war wasn't smooth sailing by any stretch of the imagination, they were making gains even though it wasn't a very noticeable change to an outside perspective. The mortals had been completely incorporated into the Olympian war automaton, they had been put in as a reliable officer corps for their armies which showed Athena's resourcefulness concerning military matters.
The reason why they couldn't just utilize the clay soldiers as officers were because we hadn't managed to give them anything more than a rudimentary creative imagination which made the few clay officers often be very predictable and while my twin and Hera seemed completely alright with the status quo, my niece had nearly ripped out her hair in frustration at their lack of military knowledge and promptly put mortals into the officer corps.
That mortals were involved in the war wasn't unprecedented because I had already gotten my priests to pick willing mortals to fight for us but to put them in power just under the Olympians with four out of five of the highest-ranking generals and Polemarchos being mortals with the last one being Polemos who was the Spirit of War. Polemos the war spirit had come into our service when he suddenly appeared at the start of our rebellion in full leather armor and a war horn in his hand. He was promptly interrogated quite thoroughly before being promoted to the Polemarchos of their then nonexistent military.
Polemos was quite bummed when he arrived because of the lack of war that he was participating in and called on some spirits of dead warriors from my brother's domain. These five hundred warriors became his retinue/honor guard who was the best of the best(Polemos words) which I could agree with. They weren't the best because they were the greatest warriors but rather their unmatched discipline with their personality which the clay soldiers just couldn't replicate.
Anyway, the current discussion was quite heated ranging from cries of attack and accusations of cowardice to more calm urgings of a tactical retreat before ambushing the storm giant at a later date. I was personally subscribed to the latter suggestion having already moved my most valuable belongings to my first home where Adrasteia and Ida had been preparing for my arrival, but I didn't voice any of my thoughts, yet.
My brother wasn't sharing my thought process and was the most avid supporter of an immediate direct attack on the 'disrespectful miscreant' as he called the giant. His support wasn't very strong with only Hera backing if very reluctantly. From what I understood at least, Hera was trying to curry favor with my brother, but she wasn't very happy about the current situation the problem for her was that she was a very stubborn woman and after months of her screaming that they couldn't leave their home her pride and stubbornness didn't allow her to go back on her word even if she saw the writing on the wall in comparison to Zeus's oblivious, arrogant and lofty attitude towards the giant problem they were facing(A/N I'm sorry but I couldn't help myself).
On the other end of the spectrum was every other Olympian with Athena as their spokesperson. Athena had since the giant had shown itself to be quite hard to stop suggested a tactical retreat with only me agreeing with her at the start before more and more of my fellow councilors began to see that this wasn't a problem that could be solved with brute force and needed a little more thinking and time. Athena had gained a quite prideful if logical attitude after her birth, I didn't have a problem with that because everyone in my family was quite prideful. But one thing I did have a small problem with was her nearly reverent attitude towards her father which seemed to usually cloud her otherwise logical judgment.
This thankfully proved that she wasn't unable to disagree with my brother which made me quite relieved if I had to be completely honest with myself, even if I felt guilty for that emotion towards my twin. While I loved my twin brother in a way that I couldn't with my other siblings, I wasn't oblivious to his hotheaded and superior attitude so I could admit that he wasn't the best person in the world and while I should have set my foot down about his attitude I only managed to get sad and nostalgic about our childhood.
I decided that it was time to end this discussion and let a little rumble vibrate the room making my family look at me curiously. "I think that a tactical retreat away from Olympus would be the wisest course of action in our current position" Zeus opened his mouth but I interrupted him before he could resume his shouting. "We will of course ultimately attack this(*sigh) foul disrespectful miscreant for its trespassing and defeat it" Zeus nodded happily completely oblivious to my deadpan voice and was in the belief that he had my support.
"I think this concludes the 35th Olympian Council meeting," I said in an authoritative tone which was in my wife's opinion a very sexy voice according to her at least. I observed my fellow counselors flashing away one by one until only Athena and my wife were left. Athena approached me while Aphrodite hung back letting us have a slightly private conversation.
"Thank you uncle, my father is quite stubborn and— I think it would have been... challenging to convince to my suggestion" My niece managed to say equal parts resentful and thankful for my contribution. I raised a dark eyebrow in amusement at her tone making her fidget before she lost her inward fight and quickly flashed out. Aphrodite seemed to share my amusement at the usual prideful deity managing to admit that she even needed or acknowledging help from another deity.
We didn't say anything though only having knowing smiles before silently flashing to her palace and packing up her valuables. We sent her stuff to my old home before joining the other Olympians and other nature spirits who were currently gathering for the evacuation. I talked with my closest family while noticing that the nature spirits and other inhabitants of the city were already moving down from the city to a small cave entrance on the lowest plateau where Hecate had installed a portal to the foot of the mountain under them for those who couldn't teleport.
All of the Olympians finally arrived, and now the entire city was completely abandoned with the nature spirits and other creatures already long gone. Zeus looked like he wasn't very happy about what he probably felt was a defeat but he reluctantly followed his family. His only supporter meanwhile looked quite relieved and was already changing into her true form. I shrugged and followed her lead, this prompted the rest of the deities to also change to their true forms, and with Zeus in the lead fly southwards like a flock of migratory birds.
This afternoon was probably an assortment of mortal star observers lucky day with an unprecedented swarm of shooting stars. We arrived at the rocky shores of Eastern Crete within a quarter. The 'shooting stars' spread out beautifully in each direction. The two 'shooting stars' that were me and Aphrodite arrived at the peak of the mountain, Ida.
We quickly changed into our less destructive forms and made our way down the mountain to the goat trail which led to my old home. My wife was introduced to my childhood caretakers and we had a very cozy dinner before eventually making our way to the conjured bed and falling asleep.
Three days later
I was having a lazy morning with my wife using my chest as a pillow which was quite comfortable and cozy if I had to be honest. This idyllic picture-perfect moment did of course have to be interrupted by my least favorite sibling suddenly appearing in my room with a fearful facial expression. Wait... fearful, I quickly sat up in the bed sliding Aphrodite's head down to my thigh. She didn't notice or didn't want to notice the disturbance and continued her calm breathing ignoring the rest of the world.
I raised a questioning eyebrow and prompted Hera to explain herself. She began breathing deeply before answering his silent question. "It's Zeus! He is adamant to defeat the storm giant himself, he just left!" I scrambled out of the bed and snapped my fingers making my previous nonexistent attire become a full-fledged light armor. Aphrodite grumble a little at the rapid movement and opened her eyes. They quickly widened at her husband's current clothing and with confidence raised from their bed gaining an envious glare from Hera on her sister-in-law's gorgeous naked body.
Aphrodite didn't let the glare affect her and with the two pair of eyes which held vastly different expressions she stood on her tippy toes and pecked her husband on the cheek in an affectionate manner and said "Do come back as fast as possible, it would be quite lonely here if I had to sleep alone" I smiled and nodded before flashing away.
I arrived at a neighboring hill to Olympus. The now-familiar storm giant was immediately noticeable. The giant was towering over most of the trees in the area(though they weren't very high, to begin with, details). The lightning protruding from the storm clouds however were quite new though it quickly became apparent why they were there when I saw the flashes of the flying electric blu chariot whirring around the giant. Unfortunately, my brother didn't look to be more than a nuisance to the sentient storm and I decided to reinforce him.
I ran at godly speeds towards the battle and while I did that I was gathering energy to join the fight. I was pacing through the hillsides like the fastest horse in the world, leavingg a dust cloud behind me. I felt my power brimming and urging to be released, I knew that I didn't have the mental strength to hold it anymore and released it to the physical world. My power immediately manifested into the largest earthen hands that I had made in my short life.
They shot upwards to the giant who just noticed the other combatant and was shuffling with thundering steps to face me, he was unfortunately for him too slow. I felt time slow and my anticipation surging excitement brimming. The dirt constructs were victoriously rising to the giant's waist. I had a slightly mad smile on my face which was replaced when I saw that something was wrong. My earthen hands were slowing down! I shook my head in disbelief while struggling to control the hands.
I suddenly saw an opposing set of rock hands who rose to meet mine with incredible force. The two pairs of hands crashed together clapping like thunder. The second before the rock hands had emerged I felt the pressure on my own hands had lessened to more bearable levels before they ultimately crashed into the opposing hands. The giant looked a little lost before a roar emerged from the gathering clouds. Zeus had gotten his shit together and sent a truly powerful lightning bolt at the head of the giant making a four diameter crevice on the top of the giant.
I, unfortunately, wasn't able to pay any more attention to the spectacle because a couple of small rock hands went out of the originals and began to pound the wrists of my own hands. I felt the weakening joints and panicked for a moment before conjuring and then flinging a couple of lava spurts at them making the hands melt away. Two smaller but sturdier obsidian hands emerged a little closer to me and went to the 'elbow' joint of my hands and pounded there.
I stomped my foot making the ground holding them up collapse into a big hole, the obsidian hands helplessly grabbed around but eventually crashed into the ground. I quickly buried them under very compact dirt who managed to trap them. I felt my godly power weaken every second and the earthen hands began to lose ground to the rock hands. I quickly slapped myself mentally and began wrestling them back to the equilibrium that we had maintained until then. I assumed the opposing deity was either Gaia or Ourea, seemed to recognize the stalemate, and then notice my completely undefended position a puny fifty feet away from the wrestling hands. The enemy deity capitalized on this and simultaneously raised rock warriors and made more hands who were quickly assaulting my person and the wrists of the earthen hands respectively. I noticed my shifting odds and let the power that I had been putting into the earthen hands convert to a rapid-fire stone catapult which began to reduce the rock warriors' numbers drastically.
The opposing rock hands were startled by the lack of opposition and fell forwards landing on the main group of their rock warriors crushing them. I was breathing quite heavily but I couldn't let the opportunity pass me and promptly buried those hands this time in granite who managed to catch the wriggling hands. The opposing deity gave up the fight and the rock construction fell shattering across the slope who they had been fighting over.
I quickly dispatched the last couple of enemies and cautiously looked around for any enemies other than the storm giant. Storm Giant! I quickly looked up to my brother and his enemy. The storm giant's cloud cover had dispersed and showed the most horrific sight you could conjure up looking like a half-decomposed corpse who had been scaled up by ten which included some maggots and other 'small' creatures crawling over the giant's face.
The maggots were easily as long as I was tall and I threw up in my mouth, I, unfortunately, managed to swallow it and felt my throat burn from the disgusting taste. I gathered my courage before turning my attention away from the disgusting face and what I now noticed were slithering snake tails who were acting as legs for the storm giant. I finally managed to find my brother who in contrast to my uninjured status had been hit a couple of times by the giant.
I was silently observing the aerial fight while calming my racing heart and rapid breathing. I saw some small hits on Zeus's end while the giant's head was looking more and more like a rotten cheese with big holes all over the head. I was completely enraptured with the fight, completely forgetting to reinforce my brother in his fight. I saw the storm giant begin to waver and I was mentally preparing to leave before everything went pear-shaped.
Zeus looked very tired after throwing exploding lightning bolts for over thirty minutes continuously, meanwhile, his opponent seemed to suddenly gain a power boost and speed up which put Zeus on the back foot. I saw it before it happened and immediately jumped up towards the giant shouting warnings to my brother. I was unfortunately too late and the backhand of the giant smashed my brother with the power of a dozen falling mountains.
Zeus was flattened against the hand breaking a good chunk of his bones making him flop around while shooting away at supersonic speeds even creating a sonic boom before being sent northwards into the Paeonian mountains. My heart stopped for two moments looking at the rapidly moving dot that was my twin before I got a red sheen across my eyes and I flew at a couple of hundred miles per hour towards the giant with my hand encased in a pure diamond gauntlet. I smashed into the stomach of the giant and a deafening boom erupted from the impact, everything was still before the storm giant was sent backward its figure hunched over.
I wanted so badly to follow the giant and finish the giant but I couldn't just let Zeus die, so I zoomed after the now little black outline. I eventually caught up to him, though I found him in a self-created cave where he laid half-conscious all the while groaning. I quickly went to his side before coming to my senses and calling for Prokopios. While I was waiting for my son to arrive I was anxiously staring at my brother with guilt apparent for even the half-dead deity.
"It wasn't your fault" Zeus coughed out while rising to his elbows, I immediately disagreed with self-loathing "No! It was my fault, I just stood there and watched... I-I should have done something!" I shouted before becoming silent. "I. Don't. Blame. You" Zeus spelled out as calmly as he could before falling to the ground again. My son arrived a moment later and immediately began his work while simultaneously shooing away his father.
I complied and went outside the newly created cave. I watched the beautiful mountain range, just absently absorbing the natural beauty. After what felt like hours I let my attention fall on one of the neighboring mountains with a thoughtful look emerging upon my face. My thought process was interrupted by my son's solemn face emerging from the dark cave "He will be..."
End of Chapter
I'm sorry but I wanted a cliffhanger.
I believe Typhon was the only son of Gaia and Ouranos who was a Gigantes in comparison to Gaia's and Tartarus brood who in my story will have been inspired by Typhon.
The updates won't be as regular as before because I have lots of end-of-term tests before summer break, and I had 1 through 10 chapters already planned and given the first draft before the story's publication so now I'm doing it in more or less real-time with two chapters at the time. I of course have a roadmap and chapter planning but these next chapters haven't had the first draft yet.
Thank you for reviewing this story I appreciate all the feedback even if it's a review that is critiquing the story and that's completely ok as long as it's constructive I of course like the positive feedback but all feedback makes this story better so I hope that you continue to do that.
