A Titanic Battle
Two years later
I had hunted this bastard for over two years now. His followers were destroyed and shipped off to Tartarus, his fortress was captured and he was on his last legs hopefully. I and my brothers had been on his tail for a little under a year now with the little rat always somehow managing to escape every time we found him.
But this time it was different I could feel it. My elder brothers just had aspirations to overthrow a tyrant and maybe if prompted kill him while I had the right idea to make him fade for what he did to me and my family! I couldn't believe that my elder brothers were so naive to believe that the evil Titan Lord would go quietly they thankfully had me see it with a realistic view.
But I can't be too over-excited now or else he would probably somehow slip away like most of the other times. There weren't a lot of believers for my crusade anymore with Persephone, Hecate, and my wife being the strongest supporters. Persephone even talked to me without much resentment for over three months before she needed a break from the hunt promising to return before long.
Hecate I knew was on the warpath and nothing could stop her from getting revenge with her being our most valued asset always managing to find his vague whereabouts.
And then there was my wife who contributed to convincing my brothers to work together on this mission. Because Poseidon and Hades didn't really connect to Prokopios other than his uncles and weren't very close ones either.
So we all had a desire to at least capture and imprison him or in my case maim and making him fade from the face of Gaia but I'm sure we would resolve it in the moment. Well, Zeus didn't have a problem with my suggestion and was actually my strongest supporter who had suggested the maiming before fading part of the plan. The reason was obvious because not only was it the only biological nephew he had that had been killed, it was also the one that had healed him after his endeavor with the giant Typhon.
We had followed the bastard all over my domain with a small stop down in Tartarus when the bastard thought he would pick up some followers along the way only to be surrounded by me, my daughter, and my brothers, the bastard just managed to slip away with the help of his domain. Slowing us down just long enough for us to don't managing to either block or follow him. Once we found the position he had flashed to he was long gone.
And it would hopefully end here with the war officially ending too if that is they managed to defeat the damn bastard.
They had followed him north of the mountains separating the civilized Hellenic people and the savage warmongering chiefdoms north of us. Even more north until we met Poseidon's domain again before moving west along the coast to a small outstretch where we flashed west again to a small gathering of very large islands inhabited by a few savage chiefdoms some with blue painted faces and some more civilized peoples. Not that they were civilized like the cultures around the eastern part of the Mediterranean but what could one expect by lowly godless creatures like these people.
He had led us to a very large open grassland area in the central and southern part of the largest island in this area. We were of course noticed by mortals and while I would have cared if they were civilized creatures these ones didn't deserve the same attention as my followers. I could see them babbling with their mouths but I honestly couldn't hear them because of my ringing ears and splitting headache I had constantly had to endure since my son's murder.
I could of course talk with my brothers via our minds but other than that was hopeless.
I saw the bastard standing arrogantly at a small height in the middle of the plain we were in now. He suddenly moved and conjured some stones and we immediately went into cover behind hastily conjured shields and walls of our respective domains so I for example had a wall of rocks and dirt, Poseidon a flowing waterfall at about four feet high, Zeus with a flash of crackling lightning charged shield, and finally Hades with a round shadow looking disc in his right hand.
But instead of flying stones, we were met with the sight of our... father(and how much that fact disgusted me, but you couldn't cry over spilled milk) setting up a good forty stones in two enveloping circles.
We suddenly understood what he was setting up and we surged forward with a sense of dread at the thought of what kind of Tartarus he could do with the stones. He had planned for this and had set a circle of time dilation around him and the stones with a bigger diameter. Zeus and Poseidon immediately began to pummel it with all of their power with me following closely behind.
Wait, what!? I shook my head and took a few steps back. Why, why am I being so damn rash? I'm not usually like this but I knew when something was wrong and had been thinking that it was only my desire for reve... no no justice, justice is what I want... right? What is happening with me? What in the name of Cha... fucking fuck fuck, where is it. I immediately sent out my attention in all directions and in a crowd of mortals observing us I found her.
I flashed to her position and took her in a strong grip to her neck almost breaking her neck before hissing ominously "How dare you! To influence an Olympian in such a way I should kill you here and now. Explain yourself, NOW!" The woman purred before suddenly her muscles clench "No bad!" She says sharply to herself for some reason before answering with fury and wrath apparent. "What did you say?" I say confused, something she completely ignores.
"Because you deserved it!" She exclaimed madly. "And why exactly did I deserve it? I raised an eyebrow which she could see but my tone of voice was enough for her to understand. "Be-because every hero needs a moment of where he or she almost breaks their principles," She says fervently. "And besides I thought it would be fun to visit my brother-in-law," She noticed my confusion and continued unimpeded. "I am the daughter of Nyx and Ouranos's blood Lyssa!" She said clearly mad.
A wolf sprang up from somewhere with foam coating its mouth. I snapped my free hand and it fell dead sliding into my leg with its head touching it. Lyssa exclaimed again "How could you do tha..." Her head snapped to the side and I replied with cold disregard contrasting my earlier wrath and fury "Charmed" before turning around to my father and brothers again.
Third-person POV
While Perseus was dealing with the spirit of mad rage, frenzy, and rabies the main fight had been escalating with the velocity of a rocket. What started as Poseidon and Zeus throwing their weight against an almost impenetrable shield with Hades calmly and calculatingly observing it for solutions ended up as a lesson in patience for two of the four sons of Kronos after that an apocalyptic fight for the story scrolls.
Hades figured out his father's thinking and gathered his two younger siblings before slowly beginning to disintegrate the complex weaving of the ward that they were faced with. Poseidon and Zeus also joined after a little while and a good ten minutes later once Perseus turned up again silently joining the dismantling process.
Zeus and Poseidon had some problems at the start but throughout they managed to get quite adequate, though this being them they probably would lose that knowledge down into a rhyton full of diluted wine before long.
Once the ward fell the sons of Kronos surged forward like angry wasps and immediately engaged their father who had been steadily making progress on his project of putting up stones and etching something into the base of everyone. Though when the Olympians attacked him he did have to take a break and pay attention to them, while he was doing that stones were still floating up from a lying to a standing position in the two stone circles around them.
The stones I would like to add were 13 feet high in a vertical position once set up. The stones all had vaguely the same oblong figure with ninety-degree feet and slightly rounded tops.
While I was describing stones the fight had escalated as I said previously and now only Perseus and Zeus were in it anymore for now at least. This was because both Hades and Poseidon had been trapped in time and were traveling ever so slowly towards their father and the fight.
Zeus meanwhile was doing his favorite trick of sending lightning bolt after lightning bolt at his father with a truly unbelievable precision wearing down the Titan King quite effectively. He was unfortunately sent flying soon after by an unseen fist courtesy of his father. Zeus flew miles and miles with stars around his head before ending up in thick forestland to the northwest of where only Perseus and Kronos were fighting or rather dueling it out.
Kronos had taken his Scythe out to play and was strategically attacking Perseus's sword Syntrofos with very well-placed strikes. And Perseus felt the pressure because only two years ago that very scythe that he was currently fighting against had executed and made his son fade immediately making it his most hates item in the world.
Not that the scythe wasn't already the most feared weapon of at least the Hellenic pantheon, and maybe beyond. Perseus anyways tried to hold out long enough for his brothers to return to his side so parried, dodged, and sometimes even blocked the legendary blade unleashed against him.
Though it may not be enough considering the clinical way Perseus's father managed to wield what many could call a quite unwieldy weapon.
But Perseus's blade he realized managed to at least be on the same level as the intimidating scythe on the other side of the duel.
Eventually, someone made a mistake and Perseus would be the one to pay for it with a quite similar fist to the face sending him away from the fight in a similar manner to his twin's earlier situation. Though Perseus was sent away down south before landing or more accurately crashing down on a respectably sized island in the south.
Once every foe was incapacitated or unable to continue the fight Kronos silently turned back to his previous task etching the now standing stones. That was quite curious because these kinds of fights weren't like this usually at least but the fight was silent with no banter and only grunts, lightning strikes with associated thunder because we couldn't have without it and the strikes of blades against blades.
After about twenty minutes more of Kronos just etching in... something into the stones the two eldest children of Kronos finally broke free from their imprisonments in time to simultaneously attack their father in a coordinated fashion striking against him with both godly precision, fury, and slight desperation. This went on for some time and with every strike, the ground around them became more and more lit up for some reason.
This was what Perseus and Zeus were treated to once they finally made it back from their respective... banishments. In other words, utter pandemonium which they joined in on immediately after setting out against their father too.
This time Kronos was getting overwhelmed with attacks from every direction. And after about ten minutes more of the most powerful deities on Gaia pummeling each other, he made a mistake. This showed the Titan Lords' power. Perseus managed to snake up behind and hack his scythe out of Kronos's hand which effectively ended the fight.
Hades had a weird black metal sword trained on Kronos, Perseus with Syntrofos, Poseidon with his trident, and finally Zeus with the Titan lord's scythe itself.
"So, do you have anything to say for your crimes?" Perseus asked coldly. And Kronos smiled crookedly at his sons before answering in a warm voice "I am so proud of my sons" Before throwing his body onto the scythe in front of him finally ending the reign of Kronos the Titan King and ushering in a New Era, or maybe not...
Because while Perseus looked like he had swallowed a lemon he didn't look like he would create the high magnitude earthquakes that were currently going off around them. Though they eventually stopped as suddenly as they started making an eerie silence emanate across the large plains around the sons of Kronos.
The crowd of a good forty mortals was a pile of ash down the slope from where they had been fighting. And now that Perseus noticed it too they were confirmed to not be his doing because he looked as confused as his brothers.
He sent his awareness out and find even more piles of ashes all over his domain not only from mortals but even animals and other creatures like monsters and such.
He searched the whole face of Gaia and found out that the ninety million mortals had been incinerated and even the animals were currently getting incinerated in the tens of thousands every moment how could this end?
Perseus POV
It was horrible sensing lives getting snuffed out as they could only stand here, wait why weren't they helping? I shook my head making me dizzy but getting my head on the right track again before I quickly shook my brothers so they also 'awoke' from the mindlessness they had been suffering from.
I quickly flashed to each of the forty-two pillars and looked at their writing on the 'legs' of them before getting an idea.
I quickly get to my knees and pray to my grandmother who arrives almost immediately. Looking like she just walked up and out of the ground.
Gaia was very beautiful like most female deities but she had a strained facial expression and sweat pouring down her face in droves looking almost overwhelmed by something which couldn't be right, right? She was after all a Protogenoi and they were personifications of what the world was.
"Do-do you know how we can fix this grandmother?" I ask shakily. Gaia looks amused at me for a second "I'm not dead yet Perseus this is only as you thought a personification of me and more specifically my domain"
She takes a breath of air before continuing in a strained voice "But yes I do actually have a plan to fix this but I will need you Hades to summon Tartarus while the rest of you try to awaken Chronos, and maybe Nyx too thinking about it but I don't think she would be too happy about it so do it at your own caution".
"C-Chronos isn't it a little late for that" Poseidon says nervously at the possible need to summon his father. "No brother, not him but rather the Protogenoi, the one who our father was named after" Poseidon sounded relieved but I had already turned around again after the explanation.
I had a thousand ideas whirring around my mind before summoning Hecate who was immediately briefed before she began to try to find out what the symbols on the rocks meant.
I once again got to my knees and began to pray. I heard my brothers also get on their knees behind and together we tried to summon the protogenoi.
We were eventually met with two puffs and the sight of an old man with a very long beard and a gorgeous black-haired woman her skin contrasting her hair and being pale like Snow met us. I first went to Nyx while my twin and elder brother escorted Chronos to their grandmother.
"So, why did you 'summon' me" Looking amused at the thought of someone trying to summon a Protogenoi. "I thought it would be smart to have another deity with at least an understanding of magic looking over the rocks set up by my father" Nyx narrowed her eyes "I will look over these stones but don't think this will happen again if you try" Nyx ominously finishes before turning around and walking to the stones.
I sigh before turning to where Gaia, my brothers, Chronos, and a handsome dark-haired deity stood. When I neared the dark-haired deity he turned around and nodded in greeting before silently observing me, making me very uncomfortable, to be honest, but that could just be because knew was his domain of course. But I couldn't focus on that and let my attention fall on Chronos.
"...so, will you help us?" I hear Zeus finish. Chronos sighs sleepily before replying "Very w..." three grandmas flash in in the middle of his reply eyes trained on me and my twin. "You can't just unmake fate without consequences," They say indignantly. Chronos lights up "Ahh beloved daughters how are you?" He suddenly says completely oblivious to their angry expressions. The one closest to him irritably shakes her head at him before turning back to Zeus and me.
"So what will you pay?" They ask rhetorically apparently because they immediately answer it themselves. "With a set of laws your dynasty will have to follow forevermore, the consequences for breaking these laws would be unpleasant so don't try!" They say while staring at my twin, especially for some odd reason.
"Well eh, what are these laws exactly?" The ancient grandmothers look irritated at me and my question before answering irritably "These laws include for example to not enter the domain of another deity if not invited by the Lord/Lady, directly stealing the symbols of powers from other deities,
that you can't affect the world in whatever way and that mortal encounters are quite restrictive especially if they aren't part of your pantheon or beliefs, and not being allowed to attack half-mortals without them challenging the immortal or provocation, understand?"
Everyone looks blankly at The Fates before nodding a little nervously. "This is of course only if you go through with the current plan" The Fates finish sweetly. I look around me to my brothers receiving a nod from every one of them before saying to the fates something which will rewrite history...
End of Chapter
Did you guys think Perseus had gone off the deep end or did any of you notice it before the reveal?
I always enjoy responses to my story so don't be shy and send me your critique(constructive of course), praise(I have enjoyed the ones that I have already gotten), and questions about the chapter and future updates/direction of the story.
For those wondering why the gods are behaving in an OOC way, well, that's because they are very young deities in comparison to when they were 3500 y/o in the pjo story.
This story is something I am interested in apparently because these few weeks I have been trying to draw up some roadmaps to other story ideas of mine and I don't have the same energy, so I will probably have to be finished with this one first, unfortunately.
