Slayer: Phew! Haven't updated this story in forever, but now that we're done updating the VE redux we can move onto this.
Mizore: It had been a while.
Argentum: Indeed. Even have I! A new member of the Dark Guard to add in here.
Judan: Kind of funny that the last time this chapter was written I hadn't even joined yet.
Shadow: Crazy ain't it?
Slayer: Yep.
Modaga: Ah what youthful fun!
Judan: Modaga was also not a god of chaos obsessed with youth.
Argentum: Ain't that your fault that he turned out this way?
Judan: I will neither confirm or deny that.
Mizore: Isn't that enough of a confirmation?
Modaga: Oh most definitely.
Shadow: Oi vey…
Slayer: Well seeing how he is technically new for the chapter, let's have Argentum start us off.
Argentum: Sure why not? Ahem, we here at the Dark Guard productions own nothing but Oc's and reality building concepts. Now without further dealy~!
Everyone: Here's the story!

Chapter two: I hate Succubi
It has been a week from the start of the school year, and my alarm went off exactly like I timed it to last night. This for me is both good and bad, since I stayed up rather late with Mizore and had another nightmare. So good as in I got to hang with my crush more, but bad as in I hate my nightmares. This has become sort of the norm for us. I still haven't told her much but I've opened up a lot more.
Looking at my clock I sighed, It was currently seven and school started at nine. Stretching I got up, took a shower, and got dressed into my clothes putting on my glasses. Always had to look stylish after all. This time however I went and put my sword into a case which I can carry around. I may be strong physically but I always feel more comfortable with a weapon nearby. By the time I was about to make breakfast it was seven thirty, and feeling someone I went and opened my window.
"Mizore if you want I can make you breakfast." After a couple seconds she climbed in through my window. When she looked at me she was pouting a bit with her hands on her hips. This was the first time that she had actually come in the morning.
"How come I can never sneak up on you?!" I could tell she wasn't truly upset but that face she was making was rather adorable. I couldn't help but laugh pat her head affectionately. She didn't seem to really mind but her face turned a bit red.
"Sorry Mizore but you need to mask yourself a lot better if you want to sneak up on me. Anyways you didn't answer my question." I could see her thinking for a bit before she shrugged her shoulders.
"Sure what are you making?"
I smiled before turning to the kitchen and answering. "I'll be making crepes today along with brown sausage." She looked at me confused and I wondered what was wrong.
"Sorry but I don't think I've ever had a crepe before." My eyes widened a bit before I quickly started to work on making the best crepes I've ever made.
"Well today is the perfect time to correct such a thing!~ Just sit down and I'll get everything ready." Mizore nodded and sat down at my table. As a side thought I needed to find out what the table and desk, were made of. My current guess is mahogany. At that moment I felt some kind of disturbance and a chill went down my spine. As if the very fabric of reality was trying to tell me something.
Seeing how this wasn't the first time this reality tried to tell me something I simply ignored it. I honestly didn't care about reality too much; long as it didn't implode or Azathoth didn't try and eat it I was fine. Speaking of eating after waking up from sleeping, while the first crepe was being cooked, I quickly got out a cutting board and got out some blueberries, strawberries, chocolate sauce, whip cream, and blackberries. The strawberries I cut up on the cutting board before going to pan cook some sausage links. I will admit to have gone full out for the snow woman.
When the first crepe was done I put it onto a plate and quickly went to the next one. While it was cooking I quickly set the table. I could see the snow woman at my table was wondering what I was doing. But I also saw that she snuck some strawberries, not that I could really blame her those things are delicious. It was another twenty minutes before everything was done, during that time I also made some hot cocoa which I chilled one of the mugs for Mizore. The cocoa I put in some cinnamon, whip cream, vanilla, and caramel.
Looking at the cooked sausages I also cooled them down along with two of the crepes I made. I then proceeded to put a plate with the two cooled crepes down in front of Mizore while I stuffed it with the contents on the table. Then after rolling them up I put even more stuff on top. After which I placed the pan with the now cooled sausages on the table and placed her mug in front of her. I then proceeded to do mine and said a silent prayer in my head and sat down.
"Well dig in then!~ I already chilled your stuff, but feel free to make it colder. As it is my first time cooking for you I have no idea how cold I needed to make it." Mizore nodded before picking up her knife and fork and carefully cut into one of her crepes before picking it up. She was hesitant at first but I encouraged her to eat it. I could tell she loved it on the first bite, truly for a chief the best compliment is a face that looks like it's in heaven.
"This is delicious!~ Seriously with all the skills you've picked up, I didn't think cooking would be one of them. How did you get so good?" I set down my own utensils while I thought about it. To be honest I didn't think I was that good, so I just shrugged.
"Well I don't know if I'm that good… but I live alone, and so I decided if I didn't want crappy food for the rest of my life I needed to learn how to cook." Mizore nodded and gave me a warm smile.
"I think you're selling yourself short this um… what is it called? Oh yeah! This crepe is actually really delicious! Where is it from?"
"Well it actually originated from Europe, so I'm not entirely surprised you've never had it before."
"Ah I see, by the way I can tell that this isn't a normal breakfast. If it was you'd be rather round." Mizore put emphasis on the round part and I chuckled a bit, seeing that she giggled a bit before continuing. "So my question is what's the occasion?" In truth there really wasn't any besides a pretty girl coming into my room. Also my decision was also influenced by the fact she never had crepes before. So me being me I was totally comfortable with simply saying just that.
So with a slightly flirtatious smile I told her. "Truly there isn't one except for the fact that there is a beautiful girl in my room this morning. One who decided to join me for breakfast and has never had crepes before. So I just decided to make it special for today." Mizore's face turned red, her blush was made even more visible by her pale skin.
She quietly gave me a "Thank you" before going back to eating to try and cover her blush. It only slightly worked however I decided to leave her be, simply going back to my own food. We got done at eight thirty which left us plenty of time to get to class. I quickly put the dishes into the dish washer and grabbed both my sword case and book bag.
I still didn't know why I brought it with me every day. Especially since nothing has happened recently. I chalked it up to my paranoia and pessimism, or my own words better safe than sorry. I lived by the rules of… it's better to have something and not need it, than to not have it and need it. My inner monologue just insults me for it though. At which I remind her of how many times I've been correct on my assumptions.
I was certain that my life couldn't get any stranger. I let out an audible groan at my stupidity, as a general rule in life for people like me… You never say lines like that, and I mean NEVER. Reality will only do it's best to prove you wrong. On second thought maybe Azathoth can eat this reality once he wakes up, would make my life easier.
The first of many line breaks
I watched as Mizore left through my window saying that she'll meet me on the way there. Agreeing I closed the window and quickly left my room, as I did I met up with Tsukune who was about as much as a morning person as I was. However I at least have an excuse of never going a full night without terrifying dreams. I blame both my infused blood and the outsider for those. The latter of who never quite confirmed or denied my accusations. As we approached the main entrance of the school Mizore popped out and gave the regular human a good scare. This caused me to laugh at his actions.
This got the regular human to glare at me. "Hey you know that it's not that amusing right?" I stopped laughing to give Tsukune a serious look. He backed away a bit and I smirked at him. He could only glare harder now knowing I was pulling his leg.
"Sorry but I do find it rather funny. By the way Mizore it's good to see you again." I winked at her after I said that this earned me a small laugh. Sensing another familiar presence I turned around to see Moka running up to us.
"Hey Tsukune! Hi everyone!" I wasn't even going to bother with the fact that she separated those two things. In truth it has sort of become the norm among our mornings. Tsukune however didn't notice and gave her a warm smile.
"Good morning Moka! Nice morning today huh?" Sometimes I had to wonder about that guy. Oh well seeing how those two were ignoring us as usual I decided to talk to Mizore.
"Well they're at it again. Looking forward to class today?" Mizore turned to me while opening up another sucker and putting it into her mouth, although they look like regular candy they were actually meant to help regulate her body heat. Being a Yuki Onna came with a strong weakness to heat, although I try to help with that in our classes together.
"Well not really… if I'm honest school is sort of blending together now, guess that's just school though." I grunted in agreement since it was a fairly accurate statement. Though who was I to really complain? The amount of money I'm making was huge, and more importantly I met Mizore. Stopping we turned around when we heard the familiar sound of Moka biting Tsukune.
"ARGH! Moka I'm not just food!" Saying that he ran off into the forest, this caused me to literally slap my face in exasperation. The only regular human on campus just ran into a creepy forest… in a place full of monsters… that could literally rip his face off, and or eat him. I'm beginning to see how he failed every other HighSchool entrance exam.
"Tsukune! Don't go!" And then there was the pink haired vampire. I was really glad at that moment that Alucard wasn't here. Because he'd more than likely have a field day with all of this, seriously I think he exists solely to cause trouble and laugh at misfortune. I could tell all that from simply meeting him for as long as I did.
A fun hobby as long as you aren't the victim I suppose. Looking at Moka who was now despairing and wondering what she did wrong, I could only be grateful that not all vampires were like the two I've met. Deciding to stop some unnecessary trouble I came up behind her and put my hand on her shoulder. This prompted her to turn to me with teary eyes. Luckily I'm not truly affected by such things… for the most part at least… I do believe Mizore could get the look to work on me.
Shaking my head from how adorable a puppy faced Mizore was I spoke up. "Moka you shouldn't go around sucking his blood like that. It'll give the kid the idea that you're only his friend because you like how he tastes. Even if his reactions amuse me, I don't want you two to stop being friends." Moka seemed to mull over what I said as I pulled back my hand. Suddenly her eyes lit up with new determination while clenching her right hand into a fist. Said fist was then raised into the air above her.
"You're right! When I see him next I'll apologize! Then from that time forward I'll ask for his blood!" I figured that was the closest that I would get, I also heard her stomach growl a bit and she wrapped her arms around herself. She wore an embarrassed look on her face as she gave a nervous laugh.
"Wow I guess I'm used to drinking Tsukune's blood." She then sniffed and turned towards me. I already could tell that I wouldn't like where this is going. She got closer to me while sniffing me, guess even diluted as it was my human blood could still be smelled by a vampire. "You know you also smell good mind if a take a bite?" Despite asking she was already close to biting me. I was just about to blink away when a blueish white projectile went by her head causing her to yelp. I also heard a thunk and turned towards a tree that had a kunai made of ice embedded into it.
I already knew who threw it as I turned to see Mizore with a stern look on her face. "Moka you're my friend but hands off Hunter." Moka gave a nervous laugh while backing away quickly. I turned to Mizore with an eyebrow raised.
"I appreciate the help but I could've blinked out of her range." Deciding to tease her a bit I gave her a mischievous look. "You wouldn't happen to be getting possessive of me are you?" Her face turned red and she started sputtering a few things. I laughed and resumed walking, both Moka and Mizore followed after me with the later still having a red face.
"Maybe I am…" Although I knew she didn't intend for me to hear that I was still able to. Hey you don't survive long hunting eldritch beasts if you don't have good hearing or battle instincts… Still I decided not to act on it for the time being. After all, Yuki Onna are known to be quite emotional when it comes to these things. I didn't want to rush anything; else I risk her running away from me. For now I was content on friends despite my obvious crush. I figured that everything would be worth the wait in the end.
The second of many line breaks
As we entered into the school I noticed that Tsukune was with another girl who seemed to be using him to keep herself straight. She was actually a girl from our class. Kurumu Kurono, she has light blue hair with a yellow head band with two stars on it. Along with a white long sleeved shirt and a red bowtie along with a pale yellow vest. She also had a brown checkered skirt and white leg warmers. On her feet were plain black dress shoes. I was starting to wonder why the dress code was even a thing at this point.
Kurumu was also rather short and had… well… Ahem a large chest. Her eyes were also purple; she was rather good looking in her own way. However I wasn't interested, that could not be said about the rest of the male population though. The same as it was with Moka most of them wanted to kill Tsukune for being near her.
"Hey who's that with Tsukune?" I turned to look at Moka who now had a jealous look in her eyes. For a second I could also feel killer's intent coming from her. Looking at Mizore for advice she only shrugged. It wasn't like she knew what to do; being her closest thing to a true relationship was with me. Not that I had anything better as an experience. So giving another one of my famous sighs I answered the angry pinkette.
"That would be Kurumu Kurono; she's actually in our homeroom class. As to what they're doing my guess is that Aono's helping her or something. She does seem to be having trouble walking right now." Moka had some decency to a look a little ashamed at being jealous of her. She then quickly perked up; I was seriously beginning to wonder if mood swings were normal in vampires.
"Well if he's helping her I should go help to!" With that she ran off to go after them. Me and Mizore just looked at each other and shrugged and made our way to our class. Sometimes it's better to ignore some things after all, and that's coming from a guy who talks to a person who's practically a god. Or would it be Kami since I'm here in Japan? Wait is it even Japan? I really need to ask Mikogami about the general location later. Thus my thought process was taken up trying to figure out where exactly the location of this place was. Even though in the long scheme of things it didn't matter I was still curious.
As me and Mizore entered the class we sat at our usual seats in the back corner near the windows. This way we could keep the air cooler while not really bothering anyone else. Personally I like two types of temperatures, nice and cold or a nice comfortable heat. Since coming here I've mostly been in the former mostly for Mizore's sake though.
You've truly fallen for her huh? Ha! Just as expected from a wimp like you
I really don't want to hear that from you. Especially since it's not much of an insult and I know you like her as well. Besides she's both beautiful and adorable! How can you not like her? My evil monologue didn't say anything after that which means another point for me. Wait if she's me doesn't that mean I'm telling myself to shut up? I decided not to head down that road.
I was wondering about what I was going to do with her later on in life. So sighing I got out my note books and writing utensils. Looking at my phone I could see that we had only five minutes until class started. Right when I was about to wonder where Moka and Tsukune were, they entered and sat down in their spots in front of us. Tsukune being right in front of me with Moka sitting to his right, however I could feel something slightly off about Tsukune. Not that there wasn't something off about all my friends normally, this just felt different. I looked over to Moka who had a worried look on her face and was constantly glancing at Tsukune.
The bell rang and I decided to worry about it later, for now I needed to pick the pieces of the actual lesson out of the facts about fish. Truly having a cat girl as a teacher wasn't the greatest but it also wasn't terrible… For the most part, there were those times she scratched at someone's face. I'm starting to think that I'm the normal one here, well me and Mizore of course. It wasn't like Ms. Nekonome was the only strange teacher either. Our math teacher Ririko Kagome seemed nice enough, but for some reason I felt uneasy around her. Mostly because she has a truly obsessive passion when it comes to grades.
Then there's our physical education teacher, Okuto Kotsubo. It's not like he's a bad teacher but… I just get a creepy feeling from him and I don't like the way he looks at Mizore. In fact now that I think about it, almost all the teachers I get a creepy feeling from. I'll have to ask around later to see if I'm the only one, after all it's my job to make sure Tsukune comes out of this school alive.
Maybe not permanently scarred for life, but at least alive. It's all the same thing right? I was brought out of my thoughts as the door to the classroom opened. Standing there was none other than Kurono who looked completely fine. Giving the teacher a tardy note she found her seat directly in front of Tsukune.
Once again I'm confused on how he and Moka never noticed her before, since she sits right there literally in front of them. Not to mention all of the gawking and whispering of hormonal boys in the class. I think I could also hear the whispers of some jealous female students as well. Groaning while slamming my head onto my desk, I realized this was going to be a long day.
The third of many line breaks
I almost cried out for joy when the final bell rang but it was dampened by what happened next. I saw Moka quickly leave followed by Kurono. Looking at Tsukune I decided to ask him what exactly was going on.
"Hey Aono what exactly is going on right now?" He looked at me before giving me a confused look and shrugged.
"Beats me, all I know was this morning I found Kurumu out by the lake and she was in pain. So I decided to help her to the nurse's where we ran into Moka. Then all of the sudden Kurumu ran off, although I did feel something as she asked me a couple of things." I looked at him with a raised eyebrow.
"What do you mean you felt something? Can you be a little bit more specific?" He put his hand to his chin trying to think.
"Well when she asked me things I felt some kind of pull to do as she asked." My face turned sour as I gained a guess as to what was going on. I just hoped that I was wrong, because I know I would hate dealing with that particular Yokai.
"If that's the case I suggest we find Moka, I'm starting to have a bad feeling about this." Trusting me as his body guard and sort of friend, we left the room with Mizore following quickly behind us. As we entered the hallway I quietly and quickly put a tracking spell on him just in case.
"Okay here's what we'll do Mizore go with Aono, and I'll try finding her myself. That way we can split up and cover more ground." Tsukune nodded along with Mizore even though she looked like she wanted to protest. I could tell that she was worried. So I smiled at her and put my hand on her shoulder.
"Don't worry; I'll be fine! Just keep Aono alive for now; if any of you are in trouble I'll be able to easily find you." Looking a little less worried she nodded and ran off followed by Tsukune. Turning around I started to walk while looking for Moka. Unfortunately while being able to sense others quite clearly when they're close by… Long distance is a bit more complicated since there was so much energy being thrown around. That would be another thing that I'll have to talk to Mikogami about.
The fourth of many line breaks
Just as it was my luck my vision swam and I saw a bright light and I was forced to close my eyes. When I opened them I was able to see the familiar greyness of the void.
Or at least the voidwalker's section of it, I sighed knowing what was going on. I wasn't even surprised as I heard a voice behind me.
"It's been a while Hunter." Turning around I could see a young slim man with oily brown hair and eyes of pure black, as if looking in them you could see the abyss. He wore a brown jacket, brown slacks, and black dress shoes. This was the outsider my new patron and sort of master.
"Yes it has but you seem a little worse for wear this time around." By looking at him I could see that he was tired and frustrated about something. More than likely he summoned me here in order to cheer him up a bit. Surprisingly I was rather good at that.
He gave a long sigh while hunching over. "Yes well I was recently forced to do something I didn't want to do by that Broodknight." I already knew of who he spoke of. Maxos, who was a complete jerk in my opinion, who just happens to be one of the few beings who could strong arm the outsider. I met the guy once and I can say for certain that I hated him.
"What did he make you do this time?" The outsider folded his arms while having an extremely angry look on his face.
"He forced me to make another voidwalker out of an ex-soulreaper." I looked at him confused, after all I had no idea what a soulreaper was. Trying to be nice I gave him some hopeful words.
"Well at least it wasn't like what happened to that white haired voidspawn. By the way I still say that guy was strange." I had no idea of knowing that said voidspawn was on a date and that he just sneezed thanks to my comment. However the outsider did give a hollow laugh so my comment worked… sort of.
"Well not everyone can be a hunter like you. Besides I give him credit for already getting a girlfriend. You on the other hand have yet to truly express your feelings towards a certain snow woman." That comment kind of ticked me off. After all the guy just barely gets into a combat school and he all of the sudden gets a girl?! Seriously the guy moves fast! I mean his school started when mine did, so it's only been a week!
"Did he already know said girl from beforehand?" The outsider gave me a sly smile.
"Yes indeed he did but they were only with each other for two hours. However she is also rather special in another way. Although I can't say why, wish I could but a number of individuals don't want me to."
I shook my head in disappointment at that. "Well seeing how you're feeling better can I get back to entertaining you, by the way of you watching me solve ridiculous situations?" He laughed and I suddenly found myself back in the school. I checked my phone for the time and saw that I had been gone for thirty minutes. I needed to get back to the matter at hand. It took me another twenty minutes before I finally spotted Moka along with Mizore. What was strange though was that Tsukune was nowhere to be seen. Moka also looked extremely depressed and Mizore was trying to comfort her. They heard me approach and looked up.
"Ok I'll bite what exactly happened here?" Mizore looked at me before looking at Moka and prompted her to tell me.
"I was confronted by Kurumu who told me that she was a succubus and that I was getting in the way of her plans."
"What plans?"
"Her plan to turn the entire male population of the school into a harem for her." I slapped my forehead when I heard that. Because that's literally one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Calming down I gestured for her to continue.
"Then she declared that she was going to steal Tsukune from me. I protested naturally, but she kept going on and said that I only hung around him because he smelled like a human."
"She didn't realize he was human?" Moka shook her head. "Well I guess succubi aren't really known for their brain power…" Moka nodded her head before continuing.
"Tsukune and Mizore then showed up, Kurumu jumped him and said a few things. I tried to warn him about her but he said that I only wanted him for his blood and that I really wasn't his friend." Moka than began to lightly cry as she continued. "After which they took off somewhere and I ran here with Mizore." I sighed while giving her a bored look, I knew it was a bit insensitive but I truly thought that she'd know better.
"Moka… Aono didn't mean anything when he said that." Moka looked up at me confused while still having some tears.
"Wh-what do you mean by that?" I continued slowly for her.
"Moka succubi have an ability called charm, Aono is being mind controlled right now. He didn't really mean to say any of those things. In fact I had a suspicion that she was a succubus, and thus placed a tracking spell on Aono earlier just in case. Right now we need to get to him before she kisses him. Else he'll be her mindless slave forever." That got her panicking and she started shaking me.
"Where is he then?! We need to go save him?! Besides isn't that your job?!" I was able to stop her from shaking me while growling at her.
And though I felt bad about it I spoke to the vampire sternly. "Moka don't ever do that again." She gulped a bit in fear before I calmed down. "As for where he is I think he's in the nurse's office… again." Before I could say anything more she took off with impressive speed. I blinked a few times before turning to Mizore.
"You know I wonder if she has some werewolf blood in her… Anyway we need to catch up as well mind if I carry you? It'll be much faster that way." Mizore nodded and I grabbed her in a tight one armed embrace. I then quickly proceeded to play catch up with the pink haired vampire.
The fifth of many line breaks
It didn't take us long to reach our destination. When we got there Tsukune was fine and Moka looked out of breathe, but I didn't see Kurumu at all.
"Hey where did Kurono go?" The two other occupants looked at us as I put Mizore down.
"Oh hey Hunter thanks for showing up and doing your job. You're a bit late though." I could tell Tsukune was frustrated with me, but I really didn't care and just waved him off with my hand.
"Sorry I'm here to keep you alive, not deal with your girl problems. And thank the void for that! Because those problems seem to be multiplying by the day." It looked like he was about to retort, when a black tail with an arrow head end wrapped around his neck. Flailing, he was pulled out the window along with Moka, whom was still holding onto him. Approaching the window me and Mizore looked out it, we could see that it was Kurumu's tail that was wrapped around him. She was in her true form, which was basically just her with a black tail and two bat like wings. Also she had long claw like nails but it wouldn't be able to hurt me that much.
Grabbing Mizore's waist I jumped out the window and landed smoothly. I then put her down and we ran after them while they all crashed into a tree, probably because Kurumu couldn't handle all the weight.
Now that actually got me to worry and I called out to the human vampire pair. "Aono! Moka! Are you all right?!" They both moaned and gave me a "We're alright", nodding I turned towards the enraged succubus. Based on what I read up on them, I knew I would hate fighting them.
Biggest reasons were… well for one their charm spell. Even I would be affected for a small amount of time, that being five seconds but still that was all it took to win a fight. Number two, their illusion powers. A powerful succubus can make realistic illusions. In fact sometimes they're so powerful they can actually affect you physically. And three, they can fly, I know it isn't much but it is rather annoying and I didn't bring my pistol today.
Speaking of weapons… where is my sword? I looked around and noticed that I didn't have my sword case anywhere.
I mentally slapped myself as I realized it was still in Nekonome's classroom. In my haste I forgot about it, so putting on an irritated face I decided to do this the old fashion way. So I got into a fighting stance and waited to see what she would do next. She screamed in anger before yelling at all of us.
"If I can't have Tsukune then no one can! And anyone who gets in my way dies!" I turned to Tsukune with an annoyed look on my face.
"Aono…" I paused for a second before continuing. "This is all your fault you know?" Mizore nodded her head in agreement while Moka and Tsukune yelled at me to focus on the fight. "Hey you're not denying it." There was more yelling, but I turned back to Kurumu who was giving out even more killing intent than before.
"STOP IGNORING ME!"
Apparently she has some impressive lungs. I had to duck in order to dodge a swipe from her claws. I really needed to stop being distracted so easily. In my defense it's rather hard when you know you're stronger than your opponent. Or maybe it's just the way I am? Who knows, though I personally don't care. I dashed to the left and she flew right past me. She was obviously not very powerful; at least right now, I could tell she had potential. If I didn't accidently kill her today that is. I stepped to the left, and once again she missed however this time she flew high up into the air.
"Just stay still!" I looked up at her in confusion.
"Why would I do that? This is a fight why would I allow you to hit me?" Despite my obvious point this only made her angrier at me and she charged me, in an attempt at impaling me with her claws. So I stood there and waited to strike, another thing this girl lacked was battle experience. So when she was near enough I step to the right and used my right hand to grab her arm. I then pulled her towards the ground and elbowed her with my left arm into the ground.
I held back so I wouldn't break her spine, but I do believe the impact broke something at least. I could tell from the cracking sound of her hitting the ground, and the moans of pain coming from her downed form.
"I'll admit most would've lost consciousness from that, you're a lot sturdier than I first gave you credit for." I said that as I backed up while she slowly got to her feet. There was some blood dripping down her chin, and she was holding her ribs. Her left arm hung uselessly at her side.
Ok so I did a little bit more damage than I meant to. She started speaking to me while the others slowly stepped towards us.
"I can't lose here… The fate of my race depends on it. We're slowly dying out, so that means I can't allow you to kill me!" I gave her a blank look that confused her before I turned to Tsukune.
"Well it's your choice Aono do you want me to get rid of her?" Everyone started holding their breath while looking at the human.
Tsukune for his part looked floored than turned to me in anger. "How could you suggest such a thing?! Didn't you hear her? She said her race is dying out so why would you ask me that?!" I sighed before deciding to explain to him.
"Aono she not only did she try to kill us, but she did one more over on you. She tried to turn you into her slave, so by all rights it's up to you. I'm not going to do anything until you give me your choice." I noticed that Kurumu fell down to her knees; she had a worried face because she knew I was right. She did try and kill us, and she did try to turn Tsukune into her slave, which means the decision is his. Personally I don't care one way or the other, after all her blood would only make me stronger. Tsukune still looked angry at me but turned back to Kurumu and walked up to her. She looked up at him to only be surprised that he was smiling at her and offering his hand.
"Well I say she isn't too bad and that she's learned her lesson. So Kurumu want to be friends?" She took his hand and started crying with happiness, until she clutched her ribs in pain. Seeing that everything was over I spoke up to her, while taking something out of my infinite pocket. It was a small vial with a cork top.
"Hey Kurono catch." She looked at me and almost didn't catch the vial I tossed at her. She looked at it and saw it was the stuff inside was some kind of liquid and red in color. "Drink that it'll help with your injuries, not quite heal everything but at least help." She looked at it hesitantly but took the cork out, she was about to drink it when I remembered something. "Wait! Just so you know the stuff tastes absolutely awful. Also I don't have many of those so I suggest all of you try not to get hurt in the future." I said that last part even though I was the one who injured the succubus in the first place. I wonder about myself sometimes…
She gave me her thanks while everyone said alright to not getting injured; taking one second to steel herself she drank the contents of the bottle. I could clearly see the disgust on her face as tears came from her eyes. Yep it was that bad, as it should be! The stuff is made up from the blood of monsters that I've killed in the past.
Kurumu started coughing and hissing in pain as her injuries started to mend under the effects of the potion. Still it did its job and now she'll just need some rest to heal everything else. Yokai are quite resilient in the fact that they heal much quicker than humans. Sure there are some humans that have amazing constitution like Tsukune but they still paled to yokai.
Seeing that she was mostly healed Kurumu turned to me astonished. "How? What exactly was that stuff? And what is it made of?" Now I had a few choices tell her everything, tell her nothing, or just answer two of those parts. I decided to go with option three.
"Well for the first question, it used the energies from the ingredients in order to quicken the healing process of your body." Kurumu nodded at my answer, everyone was now listening to me so I continued. "For the second question it is called a blood vial for the color of the liquid in it… mostly." Moka's eyes lit up when I said blood and she looked at me with puppy dog eyes begging me for some.
"No Moka I don't have an infinite amount, and I really don't want to make any more right now. Would require a few dissections..." She quickly became crestfallen at my words but nodded. "Besides you still have Aono as your juice box." At this Moka turned happy again nodding her head, while Tsukune looked at me with his left eye twitching. "Ignoring Aono's look of hate…" Twitching increased.
"As for its ingredients… You really truly do not want to know." At this Kurumu turned a bit green, I could tell that she was wondering what exactly I gave her. It wasn't just her everyone looked a bit pale, I could tell they also decided to never to get hurt enough to be forced to take one of the blood vials. Hey it wasn't my fault! I didn't invent those things I just bought them, made them, and found them randomly on the ground or inside monster corpses. Ok now that I think about it that last one was sort of strange.
The sixth of many line breaks
After everyone finally recovered we took Kurumu to the infirmary to treat the rest of her wounds. After words we separated to go to our rooms. Or in my case to go and grab my sword case, no pun intended. I found it inside of Ms. Nekonome's classroom just like I thought. So grabbing it along with my book bag that was also there I noticed that Mizore left her stuff as well.
Knowing that she's more than likely would be outside my window tonight I decided to give it to her then. So carrying everything I left to go to my room. Along the way I thought about what the Outsider told me earlier today. He told me before that he wanted me to stay out of the conflict that was brewing, but I'm not quite sure I'll be able to. Even I know that I'll be dragged into it sooner or later. I shook my head to clear myself of those thoughts. Best not think on things that have yet to happen. After all this is just one conflict in this infinite reality.
Ahh multiple worlds, universes, dimensions, all within a single reality. It's enough to drive anyone with that knowledge crazy if they dwelt too long on it. I frowned as I continued to think of these things, so I did the natural thing and hit my head against the wall. This caused three things, stares from those around me, cracks in the wall, and a headache. But hey it worked to rid myself of those thoughts... I worry about myself sometimes.
It took me another ten minutes to get to my room and another five to get rid of the headache. Putting my things away I went to take a shower and came out to put on my sleep wear. Though I hesitated when I put my shirt on, I was staring at the many scars that covered my body. In particular a big nasty one that went from my left shoulder, down to right above the bottom of my stomach on my right side. It was ropey and jagged. This one I got from another hunter who had lost his mind to the curse of the beasts and attacked me.
I managed to put him down but not before he killed the other two hunters I was with and gave me this. I sighed and felt a familiar presence outside my window along with an eep.
Crap I didn't think that she'd show up early. Turning around and smiling I saw Mizore with a red face on my bed; yeah I kind of don't lock my window anymore.
Her face turned to surprise as she stared at me. I could tell she saw my scar so I put on my shirt real fast and turned around. She didn't say anything which I was grateful for, but it was rather silent as I made our regular tea. This time however I also started on making some mushroom, and clam pasta. It mostly consisted of butter, sour cream, shrimp, clam, mushrooms, garlic, and other various herbs.
I didn't like the awkward silence and tried to make some conversation. "So Mizore if you're hungry I'm making some dinner if you want?" She only nodded her head and went to sit at the table with a sullen look on her face. I sighed and after I put everything into a pan for cooking, and got the noodles going I sat at the table myself.
"Mizore if you want to ask me something go ahead. If it's you I wouldn't mind any questions you may have." She opened her mouth to speak but then closed it. I waited for her to talk as she seemed to be trying to find out if she should ask me or not. After some time, I went back to put the noodles into the silver skillet I was cooking the sauce in. I then turned the heat onto low and poured our tea. I quickly cooled hers, and set it down in front of her while I sat back down into my seat. After five more minutes she finally got the resolve to ask me what she wanted to ask.
"Hunter… How did you get that scar?" She paused but I could tell she wanted to say more. "Most yokai would die from a wound like that, but you're alive." She then quickly added "If you don't want to answer than that's fine." She looked down expecting me to not tell her, I sighed and mulled it over. At this time I guess I could say that she at least deserves to know.
So quickly taking a sip I started to recount my life. "In order to know how I got this scar you should know my whole story." She looked up at me with wide eyes, and why shouldn't she be? I've been avoiding answering questions about my past for the last week. So I quickly recounted my tale from the time I was just human to the car crash. I continued to tell her about my blood transfusion to the monsters I ended up hunting. Every once and a while she stopped me and asked me explain something a little bit more. I paused my tale right before getting to the rouge hunter in order to put the pasta onto the table.
I chilled it for her and we quickly ate before I continued.
"As I was saying me and two other hunters entered into a grave yard where there were a few beasts roaming. Nothing we really couldn't handle at that point. But then another hunter, one who had helped us with the cleric beast, came out of nowhere and killed them all. We would've said hello but we felt something off about him." I paused and closed my eyes while the memory washed over me. "We were right, you see he had lost himself to the beast's blood and had become one himself. His lust for the hunt had driven him mad, he even killed his own wife without realizing it."
I opened my eyes and looked at her tiredly. "We were foolish and thought we could change him back. Even went and got a special music box from his youngest daughter. Our naivety led to much pain for us." I clenched my fist as I remembered what happened next.
"He killed one of us who got to close while trying to snap him out of it. First we fought to defend ourselves, but then we fought to survive. We thought we had him cornered and on the ropes in the beginning, and I suppose we did. But then…" I trailed off and started shaking as what happened came to mind. It was one thing to tell someone about something, heck even watch something. But they never truly feel what you felt actually being there. The thing that the hunter turned into was worse than any cleric beast, werewolf, or anything else I faced up until then.
"He turned into the most powerful beast I had ever fought at that point. The two of us were barely able to keep up, it was too fast. It wasn't long until he killed the other hunter I was with. Then it was just me…" I didn't know when it happened but I soon found myself in Mizore's embrace as she tried to get me to calm down.
She succeeded and I stopped shaking. I scolded myself for breaking down at a memory.
She pulled away but kept me at arm's length. "Thank you I needed that, I am sorry for breaking down though." She only shook her head.
"No it's all right I can't imagine what you must have felt at the time." I gave her a small smile before continuing.
"If I had to guess I was the strongest of our little group. But even I was forced to use all my blood vials and bullets to keep myself alive. When I ran out all I could do was dodge and get some hits on him. But he managed to get one solid hit on me. The one that gave me that ugly scar you saw. I knew I was done for right then and there. But I also knew I couldn't let him leave there alive, else he kill more hunters. So with one final bout of strength I took off his head."
"How are you alive then if you yourself said you were done for?"
I took a breath before continuing. "Well how I survived is an entirely different story. Involving a contract with an eldritch abomination, at that time however I remember his blood flowing into my container and then blacking out. Normally I would've woken up in the hunter's dream, however when I opened my eyes I found myself in a strange place, with floating rocks and islands. When I looked off into the distance everything was covered in grey fog. That was when I met the Outsider, the ruler of the void. He gave me an option die, and return to the hunt. Or accept his offer at becoming a voidwalker." Mizore looked like she was finally understanding what I was.
"I accepted and he engraved his mark onto me, overriding my first contract." I showed my left hand that had the outsiders mark on it for emphasize. "He told me that I would thereon be his entertainment, and that I would in return gain new powers. It was actually how I gained my powers over ice and wind, along with my blink. As a side I got to keep all the abilities I had as a hunter. I also got the power to travel to different worlds. All in all I say I got the better end of the deal."
"I think I can agree on that and besides… If he didn't give you that deal I would've never have met you." I gave her a warm smile and chuckled a bit.
"Yeah well I'll give him your thanks later. But back to the story… So after he told me my powers, I practiced them in the void for a bit before he sent me to a copy of the hunter's dream. Said that I would need a house for myself. There I reconstructed it to house thirty people, and sent out fliers to different dimensions asking them to hire my services." I looked away from her in shame before talking again. "I ran away and left, I no longer had the courage to fight them anymore and I ran away. I'm a disgrace to all other hunters that have died fighting."
Ah there it was… the truth... I may be able to still fight opponents who were weaker than me. No problem with that… but in truth I was a coward who ran away from the fights I couldn't win. I'm not like some hero who fights on and comes out on top because of their bravery and determination, no I'm a coward.
I turned back to Mizore to see that she was angry. Not that I could blame her after all she just found out I was a coward. But her next words certainly shocked me.
"You're not a coward. And don't give me that look." I guess my face was a pretty good indicator as to what I was feeling. "So what if you ran away! I doubt anyone could've done what you did! By fighting that hunter, you proved that you could fight a losing battle and come out on top. Sure the only reason you're here is because this Outsider took interest in you." She paused as her face became soft and gave me a small smile. "You still won and probably saved many lives by defeating that man. Also you came here despite knowing it was a school for monsters."
At that I had to add in a few things. "Yeah but you guys aren't giant man eating beasts that live solely for the destruction of the human race. Or a bunch of eldritch abominations for that matter, should have never have climbed over that one fence…" She rolled her eyes at me.
"Be that as it may… you had no idea what you were getting into, but you still took the job." I laughed at that a bit.
"Yeah well getting the chance to become incredibly rich can make a lot of people do stupid things. But I do see your point." She smiled at me and folded her arms underneath her chest as to say I told you so. I took a deep breath trying to think of what to say next. "Mizore… Thank you for listening to me, I feel like a weight is lifted off my shoulders." She gave me a bright smile.
"Don't worry I'm here for you if you need to talk to someone." I nodded my head in gratitude.
"The same goes for you to, if you ever need to talk to someone, or a shoulder to cry on I'll be there for you… And for the record one of the reasons I'm glad the Outsider saved me is because I got to meet you." I got up from my seat and went over to her and hugged her tightly. After a moment she returned it. "Truly thank you Mizore…" After letting go of each other I cleared my throat. "So now that we have all of our touchy feely moments out of the way, we should probably finish eating and get you back to your room."
"Yeah that sounds like a good idea."
The seventh of many line breaks
That night I had no nightmares after I escorted Mizore back to her room. The next day went by like it normally did, Mizore showed up for breakfast again but this time I made simple bagels, eggs, sausage, and bacon. Okay so maybe not entirely normal but hey! I still needed lots of nourishment, and she enjoyed it so points for me! Today our group met up right outside our homeroom, Moka and Tsukune were already there and they waved at us.
Moka looked even happier than usual today. "Hey guys! It's nice to be all together again!" Even I had to smile, what can I say hers was kind of contagious. We all turned around though when we heard a familiar voice.
"Hey guys!" It was Kurumu who was now fully recovered, and was holding a plate of what looked like cookies. Tsukune was the first one to talk to her.
"Oh hi Kurumu it's good to see you're all right now." She smiled at him and held out the plate.
"Here I made these as an apology for what happened." We all said thanks and took one. All though me and Mizore did let Tsukune and Moka take the first bites just in case.
"Wow Kurumu these all really good!" She beamed at Tsukune's praise before adopting a bashful look.
"Hey um Tsukune the reason why I did what I did, was in order to find what we succubi call our destined ones. The ones we spend the rest of lives with and…" I could already tell what was happening before she even said anything. "I've chosen you!" Yep there it is… I looked over at Tsukune who had a shocked face and had dropped the cookie. I looked at Moka who was now glaring at Kurumu. I gave him a pat on his shoulder sighing.
"Well Aono it's been nice knowing you." I quickly back away while he starts yelling at me.
"Hey don't just leave me here! Do some-" He was cut off as Kurumu gave him a tight hug, I could see him start to turn purple while he tried to escape the "chest hug" Kurumu was giving him.
Well if he dies now I can say that I'll find it rather ironic. But hey! Most guys I know would die happily like that. I looked over to Moka who was now practically glowing with killing intent. So much so that I backed off even further.
"HEY you can't do that to Tsukune!" Lucky for him before he died from… ahem… breast suffocation, Moka used her vampiric strength to pull him away. I thought he was saved until…
"He's mine! You can't have him!" With that she sunk her fangs into his neck. This once again caused him to scream out in pain. After a second Kurumu stopped her and they began a game of tug of war, with Tsukune as the rope. I looked at Mizore while laughing to see that she had an angry face. That confused me until she spoke to me.
"Don't ever get another girl to like you. You're mine you hear?" I could only blanch at what she said. Not that I wasn't happy but it was rather forceful and straight forward.
So after a small chuckle I smiled brightly at her. "Sure but that means the same with you but only with guys." That got her to smile happily at me, I held out my hand to her and we walked to class together holding hands. Did that mean we were together? Eh I say not quite yet, but it was a pretty good start. And this happened while Tsukune was asking for help… while the other two fought over him. So I would like to amend my statement earlier, both vampires and succubi are both troublesome to deal with. I sighed because today was just Tuesday; we still had three days left to put up with this.
I was wondering if I would be able to keep him alive if all he does is attract trouble. So far it has been mostly trouble with girls to. More than likely he'll end up dead between a bunch of yokai girls that have fallen for him. So let me recap, he's gotten two of the most popular first year girls to like him already. It's also the second week of school… Yep he's toast. Whelp at least I got Mizore and a fairly large pay check out of this trip. The bell was about to ring as we saw the other three run into the class and take their seats. Oh well at least this is fun.
