Shizuka Joestar, Welcome to Duel Academia.

The year is 2014

Several years ago, Maximillion Pegasus created the trading card game, Duel Monsters. This game had become a popular sport among children and adults and lead to the development of new technologies such as Solid Vision and Duel Disks. These players, known as duelists, fight to prove their skill with a deck of cards.

The one who is the best among all of them is crowned the King of Duelists. Yugi Mutou, through various trials, has been the only one to hold the title. Now, we turn to the next generation of duelists.

Shizuka Joestar honestly didn't know how to feel.

She had wanted all her life to become a Duelist ever since watching the Battle City tournament on TV back in the States. It helped that it was Joseph's favorite game, so the two would always play after Shizuka got done with her schoolwork. That game usually carried fond memories of her and her father.

Now, the memories were tainted by the fact that she would never see her dad again. Death had seen to that.

Shizuka was currently in a private plane, escorting her and several others to Duel Academia. Looking out the window, Shizuka could see the island academy. She could only sigh however as she beheld it.

Shizuka was a short and lithe girl, with hair done in a bob cut, and a pair of heart-shaped sunglasses resting on her face, covering her brown eyes. She was currently wearing the academy's Obelisk Blue Girls Uniform, albeit with a longer skirt, and it open to reveal a T-Shirt. The T-Shirt having the word Jojo on it, and decorated with various emblems, such as peace signs and stars.

"Might as well have the time of my life, got nothing better to do." Shizuka muttered to herself as the plane started to descend towards a runaway.

The orientation had been rather boring. Shizuka felt her mind going off to other places as she heard the headmaster talk about how he was proud that they were all there and they had what it took to be dueling elites. Sure he may have been saying that to be nice and encourage the students, but she found it incredibly dull.

Shizuka was then told to download an App on her smartphone which would allow her to access information on the academy, as well as give her directions to her dorm. With nothing better to do, Shizuka opted to go ahead and go to the Obelisk Blue Girls dorm.

What she saw made her raise a brow. The girls dorm was styled like a French chateau, with white walls and a blue roof. Looking back to the information on the other dorms, Shizuka noted that Ra Yellow was a middling, but still luxurious dorm, while Osiris Red was a freaking dump. Stepping inside, Shizuka noted that the inside was just as luxurious as the outside, with a fountain in the center and marble pillars and a gigantic portrait of Obelisk the Tormentor on the wall.

"Yeesh Kaiba, talk about an ego." Shizuka shook her head as she looked up her dorm room number. Once she got to the door, Shizuka used her key to open it, and walk in. The room was simple enough, with a TV, a desk, and two beds and a coffee table. However, she saw that she wasn't the only one in the room, as her new roommate appeared to be sitting at the desk, her attention drawn to Shizuka.

The girl in question was a rather attractive girl who appeared to be the same age as Shizuka, with long dark blonde hair and hazel eyes, wearing the Obelisk Blue girls uniform. Her figure was something that made her look like a model, with long legs and a well-endowed bust. Shizuka had to admit she was checking her out a little.

The girl smiled "Ah, you must be my new roommate! My name's Asuka Tenjoin, what's yours?"

At this, Shizuka smiled a bit, her mood being brightened a little by her new roommate "Name's Shizuka. Shizuka Joestar."

"Very nice to meet you, Joestar-San!" Asuka said as she bowed. Shizuka however, held up her hand.

"No need for the formal crap, you can just call me Shizuka. Or Jojo, either works."

Asuka merely blinked, before nodding her head "OK. Do you want me to give you the grand tour Shizuka? I don't recognize you from the Dueling Middle School."

"Honestly, I would love that." Shizuka's smile then brightened "First day here and I'm already making a new friend, how about that?"

"I wouldn't really consider us friends, just yet. We just met."

"Nonsense!" Shizuka said as she put her hands around Asuka's shoulder "You seem like a nice enough chick, and we're roomies, so that means we might as well be pals already!"

"OK?" Asuka couldn't tell what to make of this girl. Shizuka Joestar seemed a little bit too forward for her tastes, but she seemed nice enough, so maybe she could let it slide? "Anyways, what are we waiting for? Let me show you around the campus."

"Let's go then, oh buddy of mine!"

Shizuka had to admit, Asuka made for a great tour guide. She had shown her a lot of the areas of the campus, such as the card shop and the beach. Right now, they were getting ready to head to the Obelisk Blue stadium, when they came across a peculiar sight.

There appeared to be a group of Obelisk Blues harassing two Osiris Reds. One of the reds had big brown hair, and brown eyes, while the other one had big bright blue hair and grey eyes and was wearing glasses. The blue haired boy was also very short, much shorter than Shizuka.

The Obelisk boys seemed to be led by a spiky black-haired youth. He certainly stood out from his two flunkies, who could have easily blended into a crowd. Asuka could only sigh as she beheld this.

"Oh great, Manjoume's already deciding to pick on an Osiris, and he just chose the wrong one."

"Hmmm?" Shizuka blinked as she looked at the two Osiris' "Which one?"

Asuka then pointed at the brown haired one. "That one."

Shizuka blinked once again "That guy? Doesn't look that impressive to me."

"He may not look like it, but he beat professor Cronos De Medici, a renowned duelist and one of our teachers."

"So?"

"Medici was using his own deck, and even pulled out a rare monster. He still lost."

At this, Shizuka curiosity was rising up "Really? What deck did he use?"

"Elemental Heroes."

Shizuka then whistled, "Well, it's true what they say: It ain't only the cards, but the player as well." She then looked towards Manjoume "So what's his deal?"

"Jun Manjoume is the highest ranked of the first years. Many are already proclaiming him to be the next King of Games." Asuka then shook her head "If you ask me, they're only buttering him up because his family is wealthy."

Shizuka frowned at hearing this "Another rich boy who thinks he's hot shit? I know a lot of them back home, so let me handle this."

"Huh?" However, before Asuka could respond, Shizuka was already making her way over to the group of boys.

"Hey, assholes. Why don't you pick on someone your own size?" Everyone's eyes turned towards Shizuka, the girl with a gigantic smirk on her face.

"Who are you?" Jun asked the girl, whose smirk only grew.

"Name's Shizuka Joestar, but you can call me the girl who's gonna kick your ass!" Shizuka then cracked her knuckles "So whadya say? Ready to duel me?"

"Shizuka!" Asuka shouted in frustration as she bonked the girl on the forehead, causing the sunglasses wearer to yelp, "I know they're being jerks, but you can't act like this now! Besides, you can't duel. The welcoming party's about to begin at the dorms."

At the mention of the welcoming party, Jun and his lackeys merely scoffed "Asuka, you better keep the new girl on a leash. Sounds like she doesn't know the pecking order around here." He then proceeded to walk out of the duel arena.

Asuka could only sigh before turning towards the duo. "I'm sorry for my roommate, she seems to be a bit of a spitfire." Asuka then glared at Shizuka, who only huffed "besides, you two shouldn't even think about acknowledging Manjoume. Him and his friends are a bunch of jerks."

"For you to take the time to tell us all this..." The brown haired boy then smiled as he pointed to himself "Does this mean you've fallen in love with me at first sight?"

Shizuka could only laugh as she heard this proclamation, "OK, whoever you are, you clearly are ballsy, and I like that!"

The boy's grin widened "Yeah, so are you! Name's Judai Yuki! Nice to meet you, Shizuka!"

Asuka then coughed to get their attention "Anyway, the welcoming parties at the dorms should be starting soon. We should get going."

"Oh crap! Don't wanna be late!" Judai then began to run, but before he could sprint off, he looked towards Asuka "Sorry, I didn't get your name!"

Asuka only smiled "Asuka Tenjoin."

"Alright then! See ya later Asuka, Shizuka!" Judai then began to sprint off towards the Osiris red dorm.

"Boy are you ever slick..." The blue haired boy sighed as he followed his friend.

"Judai..." Asuka murmured, causing Shizuka to glance toward her roommate "He seems to be an interesting one. I'll have to keep an eye on him."

At this, Shizuka began to smirk "Oh? Don't tell me this is the start of a high school romance."

Asuka merely shook her head "He just seems like an interesting opponent to duel. I don't really have a desire for a boyfriend."

Shizuka's smirk widened "That's what they all say. Just let me know when the wedding is. I'd make one hell of a bridesmaid."

Asuka could only sigh "Let's just go to the welcoming party, Shizuka."

…

"So, how are you enjoying your stay here?"

"Oh man, this place is awesome! I can complete my collection no problem, and it's all thanks to you!"

"Hmph, I myself don't recommend using your power for such...actions, but I am not one to decide how one uses their powers. However, I do have a task for you."

"And that's?"

"One of the new students here could very well be a thorn in my side. Her name's Shizuka Joestar."

"Eh, what's so bad about her? She sounds like another chick whose body I can add to my collection."

"The problem is she's a Joestar, albeit an adopted one. Her family is well known in the various circles I'm acquainted with, including her deceased father and nephew. Her nephew, I especially do not want to have a bad run in with."

"OK OK, so you want me to take care of this girl? No problem. The welcoming party for the girls dorm is tonight anyway, and I plan on using this opportunity to look for some Bonafide babes for my collection."

"Whatever, you hormonal brat. Just make sure she isn't a problem for me, deal?"

"Deal."
