#01 - Air
Despite having been raised among elves, Aragon has always marveled at them — how they seem to dance on air, barely touching it as they moved — and those who live in the depths of Mirkwood were no different.
#02 - Apples
Aragorn cracks a joke, and the blond elf laughs as he bites into a red apple, his white teeth flashing.
#03 - Beginning
"Let me accompany him, Adar."
#04 - Bugs
Curse those infernal insects, Aragon thinks as he rolls over on his bed roll, blocking his ears.
#05 - Coffee
"I fail to see how you can consume that horrid drink, Estel," Legolas says, wrinkling his nose; this draws a snort from the Ranger.
#06 - Dark
He thinks he hears something, but not even the sharp eyes of an elf can see everything that lurks in the dark.
#07 - Despair
"They are dying, Estel — the trees are slowly decaying," he mourns in one brief moment when the walls of his people's decorum fall.
#08 - Doors
Legolas, Aragorn notices, has a habit of pausing in doorways of the inns at which they stop as though he is unsure if he will be welcome when he crosses the threshold.
#09 - Drink
As Aragorn nurses his drink, he watches Legolas stare at everything and realizes that this elf is quite young.
#10 - Duty
Aragon sharpens his sword, making a muted metallic sound; Legolas fletches arrows perfectly.
#11 - Earth
Both elf and human are attuned to the earth — the moist dirt of the earth, the rustling of the trees, and the wind as it whips across their faces.
#12 - End
Sometimes, Aragorn muses, the paths of the forest could lead onwards and onwards, and he would follow them without ever knowing there was an end.
#13 - Fall
One hew from the sword — the orc's head falls to the forest floor.
#14 - Fire
A fire smolders behind the Dúnedain's eyes, but it is not the all-consuming hatred that Legolas has seen in some humans.
#15 - Flexible
As he sits, the Ranger grunts in pain from overtaxed muscles; the elf studies him in bewilderment.
#16 - Flying
The elf's hair streams behind him as he leaps and twirls through the air, graceful in the death he delivers with twin knives.
#17 - Food
Let it be known: Elves do not understand the phrase food for thought.
#18 - Foot
They run, their feet flying across the terrain as though they were birds.
#19 - Grave
"You ask how I could be so foolish," Legolas retorts, "but it would be better for you to stand over my body than for me to stand over your grave."
#20 - Green
Like a ghost, Legolas blends into the green of the leaves as he disappears into the forest ahead of Aragon.
#21 - Head
Watching him rest, Aragon wonders what it is like to enter the waking dreams of elves.
#22 - Hollow
Aragorn's hollow eyes reflect his — Gandalf is dead, and yet they must attempt to pick up in his stead and keep going somehow.
#23 - Honor
"I would not make the same mistakes as my ancestors," he states carefully.
#24 - Hope
"Though their blood still runs through you, you did not have the same mind, and you may find hope in that."
#25 - Light
He holds his thin hands, palms and face turned upward, as though he could catch the light falling from the sun before it hits the ground.
#26 - Lost
Dazed, they stumble through the dark, clutching at the stony sides of the crevice through which they crawl.
#27 - Metal
When they spar, their weapons clash swiftly and harshly like the sharp calls of crows.
#28 - New
Legolas' eyes sparkle with delight as he handles the new bow; the corner of Aragorn's mouth turns upwards as Legolas thanks him for the third time (quite excessive for an elf).
#29 - Old
"Don't you stare at me, you young whippersnapper," the old crone of the village they've stopped at for the night barks at Legolas as Aragorn laughs in the background.
#30 - Peace
Sunlight frames the edges of the elf's hair, nose, and eyelashes; his eyes are closed, but his expression is unreadable.
#31 - Poison
Murmuring words of comfort, he holds the other to keep him from thrashing about as the poison makes its way thought his system.
#32 - Pretty
"You think Arwen is quite pretty?" — Aragorn chokes on his stew (although his sputtering may have something to do with the quality of the food instead of the question).
#33 - Rain
Even though the rain pelts upon them, Legolas' elf ears still hear Aragorn crying out, "Hold!" as he readies his bow for battle.
#34 - Regret
He sees the bodies of friends scattered on the stone and earth around him and wonders why such a time has come to them.
#35 - Roses
The words of the song die, and when Aragorn looks up, he sees roses blooming.
#36 - Secret
Despite his joy, a sadness sometimes hangs about Legolas, but Aragorn does not ask his friend what is wrong (elves speak when they desire).
#37 - Snakes
As quick and venomous as a snake, he strikes.
#38 - Snow
Aragorn scowls as Legolas springs across the snow; the white powder has already fallen in the tops of his boots and made its way to his toes.
#39 - Solid
Legolas offers him a hand, and with a solid grip, he pulls the Ranger up.
#40 - Spring
In spring, Aragorn, son of Arathorn, is crowned king with his beloved queen, the Evenstar, at his side.
#41 - Stable
As he prepares to leave, Legolas lightly sings to his horse; he will return soon.
#42 - Strange
When Aragon hugs Legolas, the latter freezes; elves are not used to physical touch, but the Ranger continues to pretend to forget this.
#43 - Summer
Summer returns and with it laughter that had been hushed and muted by the snow.
#44 - Taboo
Gently, Arwen murmurs, "Do not speak of such things now, Legolas, for if you think of them often, your heart will grow heavy."
#45 - Ugly
Scars are ugly, twisted things, he thinks.
#46 - War
Even in peace, there are still wars to be fought.
#47 - Water
"Mellon nin," Aragorn says softly, drawing Legolas' attention away from the shimmering, emerald waters.
#48 - Welcome
Aragorn's eyes crinkle at the corner when he smiles — "Legolas Thranduilion will always be welcome in my halls" (the word fool, though not spoken, is implied).
#49 - Winter
Grey, dirty snow falls on the stone statue: yet another replica of one no longer in this world.
#50 - Wood
His hand touches wood — the wood of Mirkwood's trees, the wood of a man's coffin, and the wood of a ship sailing to the West, following the white gulls' calls.
