There's a lot of blood. Everywhere. On his hands, his uniform. And on hers.
When they arrive to the base, Dr. Helen Cho and her team, rushed to the medical capsule where Maria had been put in.
Bruce looks in horror at the sight of the blood on Steve. But he softens when his eyes try to explain to Banner.
"It isn't mine."
The surgery takes more time than the planned. And finally after six hours, Maria is kind of recovering, but he can't still see her.
He waits outside her room. And Helen comes personally to check on her, explains him everything and then leaves. But she never shows pity towards him. He appreciates that.
Nat tries to convince him to get some food and when he refuses, Clint arrives with something from the cafeteria.
The team worries so much, that they stay with him. Silently, but Steve appreciates the sentiment.
After three days, Maria opens her eyes and the first thing she sees is Steve holding her hand, with a growing beard.
Then, she looks at the whole team, including Tony.
"God, these were the longest three days of our life, and your boyfriend spent 70 years frozen. Well, go get a shower Capsicle."
Maria turns to Steve. "But don't take off the beard, I think it suits you."
"I miss you too."
