A/N I've watched A Day Out With Thomas on YouTube, but that's all. Don't flame me if I'm not quite accurate, but I'll try. Actually, don't flame my character interactions either. However, I did take a train ride in the Adirondacks. With Autumn, I won't tell you she is or isn't on the spectrum. I'm mildly autistic and loved Thomas videos as a child, so I don't care if pretend she's high functioning. However you read her, in light of her words, actions, personality and general characterization's fine with me. Like if you think her being a six year old girl and loving Thomas indicates she could be the spectrum, it's your call. Sometimes, a kid who's autistic can smile like her. I had a Bachmann toy train as a young girl, but mine was based on a real train.
Autumn lay on her back and gazed at the clouds. Tomorrow, she was going to A Day Out With Thomas. She slipped into a reverie.
Autumn floated away to her favorite fictional place. She sang The Island Song when saw she was there on the island of the song. "Ffarquhar!", she called out, since she landed in sight of that town. Thomas had just finished a run on his line and was having a drink. He was able to hear her sing and called out.
"Hi there, Autumn", she heard someone call. Peep, Peep. I know who that is, she thought, especially given where she was. "You came back, my friend!", he said excitedly. He released one tear per eye from the excitement of seeing her again, on top of him being happy even before her arrival.
Autumn repeated her hugging from before and then skipped off the big shed. I gotta give the others some time, she thought. But I know I'll be back to Ffarquhar. She arrived there and said "Hi, everyone." She heard Edward whistle in distance. I believe he's got his branch line now, she thought. She saw Henry getting a washdown. Gordon, she knew, was pulling the express because she heard "Express coming through!" She saw James getting coupled to his next train. She remained there until Edward came after pulling his train. He told her about Trevor the Traction Engine. I'm headed elsewhere now, she thought and skipped away.
From the next place Autumn went, she heard Percy's whistle. Last time I was here, he was on the way here, she remembered. She was near enough to the quarry to see it. A bell sound and she knew who that must be. That's got to be Toby, she thought. No one else has a bell and she headed off in the direction of the bell. She found him and said "Hi, Toby.I'm Autumn and am a fan of this place. I came here by a daydream, just like my first time. This is my second visit.
Toby gave her a smile and said, "Hi, Autumn. Guess you came before I was here. I've been told not all our fans talk."
Autumn asked, "Do they have hearing problems? I know a kid who's hearing impaired and can't talk understandably."
He replied, "I don't know the details. All I know is some of our fans are non-verbal, which I was told means they don't talk."
She said "There's also something called autism. I've heard the word, but I don't know what it is. I'll move on now."
Toby said, "Bye, Autumn." and rang his bell as she skipped off.
Autumn arrived at a different location on the island. She could hear Duck's whistle and Donald and Douglas talking.
Douglas said, "I just saved Oliver last night. He's at the Works with Toad, his brakevan."
Autumn could feel her time on the island was waning so she went back to Ffarquahar. As she headed there, she heard Harold Helicopter buzzing in Sodor sky. She told Thomas, "Tomorrow, I'm going to have a day dedicated to you, as much as I can. I'm going to A Day Out With Thomas, an event where I get to ride a train with an engine dressed in your livery. I'm wearing my pink shirt with a Thomas iron on to the event. If I'm able, I'll also play with my Bachmann Thomas train set. I can't stay much longer this time, but I'll follow the dream to this island again."
"Bye, Autumn", he said and she heard his whistle as her daydream faded away.
A/N Though Autumn arrives on the island by daydreaming on her end, since it's a fictional place and made up characters, they can remember her. The way she interacts with them's somewhat based on how people in other circumstances in which they go to a made up place from a real one in a story or maybe a bit like imaginary friends. Due to being in a daydream, she moves at an unnatural pace. I had iron ons on some of my clothes, just not Thomas related ones. I once read a story in which a girl thought her friend was maybe crying over their reunion because they hadn't seen each other in a while and met up again because they both were at the same camp.
