Hope you enjoy!
"Andy come on!" Robert yelled from the bottom of the stairs. They were supposed to be on their way to the station for a small New Year's Eve gathering.
"I'm curling my hair!"
"Andy we are gonna be late, I told you to start getting ready earlier."
"I know, I just didn't want to!"
"How long?"
"What?"
"I said, 'how long?'" he yelled this time.
"No need to yell. Half an hour maybe"
"Half an hour... Andy."
"I'll be quick I promise."
"I'll be downstairs, I'll let the team know we'll be late."
"Okay .. thanks!"
He went back downstairs, sent a quick text to the team group chat letting them know that they will be late, with several of them asking some version of "because of Andy?"
"Yeah, she's been locked up in the bathroom for 4 hours now."
"Fours hours? Repeat that," Travis sent.
"Guys, you do realize I'm in this group right?"
"Yes, Andy we know. Now get ready cuz you are seriously late," Vic replied.
Time : (5:30 or 17:30)
An hour had passed and Andy had finally left the bathroom, gently brushing Robert's shoulder as he slept on the sofa. He turned to meet her gaze; she wore a semi-long black silk dress with a curved v-cut, and her curly hair was half natural half curled. She accessorized with two bracelets, one red and one black, and small clutch as her purse. She was beautiful.
"You are gorgeous."
"Thank you, you're not too bad yourself. You cleaned up very nice."
"Thank you, now let's go because we are seriously late. But before we leave I have something for you."
"Robert, we are already late because of me can't it wait?"
"No, it can not." He handed her a silk black box.
"Robert!" she gasped his name.
"Just open it."
"I- okay." Her fingers brushed the box gently as if she were afraid to break it. She slowly opened it, taking a very good look at what was inside.
"Robert it's... it's beautiful."
" I know we said no rings and all but.."
"I love it. Thank you."
" I love you, Andrea. We went through so much since we are together and this is just a piece of jewelry. It means nothing to our relationship; we don't love each other less 'cause there's no jewelry. I just wanted you to have this so that you can have me with you forever."
"I love you so damn much." They shared a very passionate kiss, that escalated quickly but both of them stopped it.
"We really need to go."
"Yeah, come on."
They left the house hand in hand and made it to the station in no time.
"The Sullivans have finally arrived!" Hughes yelled.
"Finally!" the team commented and joined them in the beanery. The small party could finally start.
They had decided to do it at the station this year instead of the houseboat. Pru was there with Dean's sister, and she needed her sleep. Plus last year they got a crazy 3 alarm call and the house boat is kind of far from the station. The station was the best option plus it would be even better if the other shift wanted to join in during supper or play some of the games with them when they weren't on a call. They had already started on supper when Andy and Robert got there, so they just went in and helped. Well, Robert helped and Andy was with the girls. The boys were in the kitchen while the girls were playing board games in the break room. Dean was making his famous margaritas, while Robert helped Travis with setting the table and making some dips for what the team had brought. Jack was cutting the vegetables for the soup, and Dean started his famous chilli since the team had asked for it. Every year they would eat that with everything they brought.
2 hours later ( 7:40 or 19:40)
"Dinner's ready!" Robert yelled to the girls.
Soon enough everyone was sitting around the table with an empty plate, a drink in hand. Robert was at the end of the table with Andy sitting next to him on his left, following by Travis, Emmett (who had been invited), Dean, Maya on Andy's other side, Vic, Jack, and Ben. In the middle of the table was all the food. In addition to the food they prepared at the station, everyone had brought something; there was dip, cheese, soup, chili, guacamole, pies, nachos, fondue, fried cheese bites, vegetables and fruits, and even more stuff to go. They surely weren't going to finish everything but they're gonna keep everything and make the rest of the station eat.
One by one everyone filled their plate with food. When it was Andy's turn, she went to grab some salad but got stopped by Vic's hand on hers.
"EXCUSE ME WHAT IS THAT!"
"It's nothing."
"That's not NOTHING," Vic continuing yelling at Andy like she wasn't just a few feet away.
"It's nothing, Vic."
"What is going on?!" Travis joined in.
"LOOK AT HER HAND!"
"Andy is that...IS THAT A WEDDING RING?"
She quickly snatched her hand from Vic and put it under the table where Robert's hand found hers.
"Yes, it is" she quietly said. She wasn't expecting that kind of reaction and having all the attention to her was not was she was hoping for. They have been through so much these past few months with everything that had happened, she just had hoped this was going to be on the down-low for a bit. She figured since Maya and Vic didn't notice it when they were playing games they wouldn't during dinner.
She was still lost in her thoughts when Robert started talking: "Let's not make a big deal out of it, please,"
"Let's not make it a big deal. Easy to say, Romeo," Dean let out, making Robert look at him with a death stare for calling him Romeo.
"Can we at least just see it and know how it happened, 'cause wow!" Ben got into the conversation.
Andy and Robert shared a couple of looks, communicating with their eyes as they decided what to do. She let his hand go and showed the team one by one while Robert was explaining how it happened. Then, the team satisfied with the information they gained, they slowly moved on and started eating.
4 hours later ( 11:28 or 23:28)
A call went through the station, a five-alarm fire. They needed everyone and their phones chimed one by one. All got up and get their turnouts, they were very glad they hadn't had much to drink cause this was going to be intense. Mid-diner, they had called out B and C shift for a three-alarm. They weren't expecting it to escalate but it did. What a way to celebrate New Year's Eve, so close to midnight too. They got in the engine and ladder of another station that came to get them and left for the fire site. It was about 20 minutes away from the station, Their nerves increased as they got closer, and they got the updates from the B-shift on the scene on their radios. They finally got there close to midnight, got an update, and jumped in doing their assigned jobs.
Jack, Andy, and Travis were on search and rescue. Vic and Dean were working on the aid car, and Robert, of course, was outside giving orders as always. Ben and Maya were outside helping to put out the fire. The fire was massive, and the firefighters on the scene needed help everywhere. This was nothing they had ever seen before It was a six-story building, with the fire exploding from corners to corners and floor to floor. The fire had started on the roof and spread rapidly.
Andy, Jack, and Travis were on the middle floor: the safest one so far for them to go up. One more floor to go and they would be done with search and rescue. The top floor had been searched when it first had started. As they climbed, the stairs were clearly shaking. She slipped, fell through the stairs, and through the floor. She was pretty sure she just heard her spine crack in half. Jack and Travis were up to the other floor now, calling out for people.
"Jack where's Andy!"
"What ?!"
"Where's Andy I don't see her anywhere!
"Oh my God, Andy!"
They started yelling through the building
"We should call her on the radio."
"Let's just try and find her first, Sullivan's outside."
"He deserves to know we lost his wife, Travis! It's Andy for God's sake."
"Do you want him to come inside here to find her? If he does that we risk losing both of them!"
"Okay! But if we can't find her soon we're calling her on the radio."
"Okay. Let's go now. There's no one on this floor. Let's try and go down."
They looked for a little while. "19 search and rescue how are things inside?" they heard Robert call out.
"Fourth floor is cleared. We're going back to third, sir," Jack confessed on the radio. God he hated to lie.
"Jack we need to call out for her on the radio now."
"Yes, you're right," but before they could do so Andy's voice came through the radio. It was a small faint voice.
"Cap!"
"Herrera?"
"Robert..." she gasped for air.
"Andy? Andy's what's wrong?"
"I love you...I love you so much."
"Andy?...Andy!"
Her hand was still on the button of her radio and Robert could hear her PASS alarm ringing even though she did not speak again.
"Travis we need to find her," Jack shouted.
Bye bye 3
