So, Like I said, I'm still learning how this site works and It took awhile to figure out how to add a new chapter.
Rest assured, this one will be an actual chapter this time.
"Latios is unable to battle. Garchomp wins." sounded the television. Ash watched Tobias recall his recently defeated Latios to its Pokeball as Cynthia did the same for her Garchomp. The TV was currently set outside so Ash's other Pokemon could watch. Alongside Ash and his partner Pikachu were a few of his smaller Pokemon like Buizel, Bulbasaur, and Gible along with Professor Oak. His larger Pokemon like Torterra and Gliscor were sitting behind them in the lawn. They were watching Tobias' battle against Cynthia for the title of Sinnoh Champion.
"Smart," Said professor Oak, gaining Ash's attention "After using Giga-impact Garchomp wouldn't be able to move for a bit. Against a trainer like Tobias and his Legendary Pokemon, that would be dangerous." That was the main reason the Pokemon Professor was watching as well. Aside from this being his house, he was greatly interested in seeing Legendary Pokemon such as Darkrai and Latios battling alongside a trainer. Such a sight was extremely rare to see. Also, he had made a bet with Ash over how many Legendary Pokemon Tobias had on his team. Oak had bet that Tobias only had one more at most while Ash had bet that all six of his team members were legendary Pokemon.
"You're right." Ash replied. As he said this, Tobias called out a Suicune while Cynthia called out Roserade. "Seeing Tobias fighting alongside these Legendary Pokemon is amazing to watch. And to see Cynthia taking them on like its just a normal battle. It just goes to show how far my goal still is."
Pikachu placed his paw on Ash's leg, getting his attention. "Pi-Pikachu."
"Yeah, we'll get there one day." This moment was interrupted by the tv.
"Roserade is unable to battle. Suicune wins." Cynthia recalled Roserade. After reassuring it, she called out Milotic.
"So she's using Milotic." Ash observed. "I wonder what her strategy will be."
"Ah, you must've missed it." Answered Oak. "Take a closer look at Suicune." Ash did so, and noticed what Oak was talking about.
The area just above Suicune's nose had turned to a dark shade of purple. "It's poisoned? When did that happen."
"It was just before it got hit with Ice Beam." The Professor explained. "Roserade managed to hit Suicune with Toxic to badly poison it. Milotic has high special defence and as a Water type, Suicune's Water and Ice type attacks won't be very effective. Cynthia plans to have Milotic take Suicune's attacks as the poison weakens it."
Just as Oak predicted, Milotic tanked Suicune's attacks without taking much damage. Suicune, meanwhile, was taking more and more damage from the poison. Tobias, realizing this was getting him nowhere, recalled Suicune and sent out his next Pokemon, Zapdos.
The first thing Zapdos did upon being released was use the move Rain Dance to change the weather. Seeing this, Cynthia had Milotic use the move surf. With the added power from the rain, the move hit the legendary bird with great force. Or it would've, had Zapdos not defended itself using the move Light Screen. With the move only hitting at half strength, Zapdos counter attacked with Thunder intending to end the battle right there. From the clouds, huge sparks gathered together before striking down all at once towards the Water type in one giant bolt.
"Amazing!" Said Ash. "And it's super effective too. That's gonna deal some major of damage."
"Don't count Milotic out yet," stated Professor Oak. "Cynthia kept it in for a reason."
"Milotic, use mirror coat!" shouted Cynthia, to the surprise of both her opponent along with Ash and his Pokemon watching from the lab. Coating its body in a bright light, Milotic took the attack head on and reflected it right back at Zapdos. When the smoke cleared, both Zapdos and Milotic remained standing, but both worse for wear.
"Both Pokemon are on their last legs." said the announcer "Who's gonna come out on top?"
"Zapdos definitely took more damage." Said Professor Oak. "But, it seems to have won this battle."
"Huh? What do you mean?" Ash asked. Suddenly, sparks appeared surrounding Milotic, indicating it was paralyzed. Seizing the opportunity, Zapdos quickly struck down the Tender Pokemon using Drill Peck.
"The move Thunder has a chance to paralyze its target if it hits." Explained Professor Oak. "However, it took a lot of damage from Milotic's Mirror Coat. Depending on Cynthia's next Pokemon, Tobias may have to switch."
True to his prediction, upon Cynthia sending out Garchomp again, Tobias quickly recalled Zapdos and sent out Suicune in its place. He planned on using the super effective Ice Beam to take out the Dragon and Ground type, and take advantage of the rain to power up its Hydro Pump, Oak theorized. "But with the damage its already taken and the poison its been afflicted with, it might not be enough." he finished.
Flying up to dodge the incoming Ice Beam, Garchomp descended using the move Dragon Rush. Suicune attempted to counter using Hydro Pump, but Garchomp rolled around it before striking the Legendary Pokemon head on. Suicune managed to barely survive the hit, but ended up succumbing to the poison.
"You were right again!" Ash shouted in disbelief. His Pokemon shared a similar reaction. "How do you keep doing that?"
Professor Oak laughed. "Don't be so surprised, Ash. I was a trainer myself back in the day. I was never quite as strong as those two, but when you do something for long enough, you tend get a feel for it. I've been working with Pokemon, and Pokemon trainers, for almost my whole life, so I can make a pretty good guess how a battle might turn out based on the information available to me."
"Wow." Ash turned to Pikachu "You think we can do that too?"
"Of course you can, Ash. In fact, you're already starting to develop it." Oak reassured.
"Really? You think so?" Ash had been a trainer for four years and had definitely gotten better. But he didn't think he quite had that level of intuition.
He remembered Paul and all the mistakes he made throughout their many battles. Not realizing that Grotle got slower after evolving, his failed strategy with Pikachu against Electivire, and his many errors during their battle at Lake acuity. Come to think of it, that intuition the Professor was talking about was something Paul seemed to have in spades. Making an educated guess on the makeup of his team in their last battle, and outsmarting him on several occasions. It was probably why he had so much trouble against him.
"I know so. Your ability to gauge your Pokemon's condition in battle is far better than when you were just starting out. You still have a long way to go before you can make the same predictions I just made. But as you gain more experience, you'll find yourself able to think further and further ahead." Oak was interrupted by Tobias releasing his next Pokemon.
The Pokemon that appeared was green. It had a flat head with horns pointing to the side. It stood on four legs and had leaf-like growths around its body.
"Who's that Pokemon?"
"Oh my!" exclaimed the Pokemon Professor. "That's Virizion! A legendary Pokemon from the Unova region!"
"Unova? Isn't that where you said you were going to visit?" questioned Ash.
"Indeed. I'm traveling over there to pay a visit to a colleague of mine. Her name's Professor Juniper and she's the Professor responsible for handing out Pokemon to new trainers in Unova."
Ash and Pikachu widened their eyes. "Does that mean there's a Pokemon League there?"
Oak chuckled. "I figured you'd ask that. Let me guess. You want to go there and compete in the Unova League?" Ash nodded and the Professor laughed again. "I already paid for your ticket on the flight and informed your Mother about it. I knew you'd want to go see."
Ash and Pikachu looked surprised before smiling and looking at each other. "Unova. If it means seeing more Pokemon like that one, I can't wait to go see."
On the screen, Garchomp and Virizion were charging at each other. Atop Virizion's head was a sword shaped energy construct, indicating the use of Sacred Sword. Garcgomp's right claw was enveloped in a reddish-white glow, indicating the use of Brick Break. As the two clashed, the impact caused a brick flash of light.
Ash and Pikachu were walking through the woods looking for a certain tree. Eventually, the spotted it. Atop the tree was a big nest filled with sleeping, baby Pidgeys, along with one bigger bird with a large red and yellow plumage on its head. Noticing Ash, the bird flew down to greet them.
"It's great to see you again too, Pidgeot."
