Chapter 54: Garrett and the Cullens

I got in the car without any hesitation. Leah hopped onto the car and started speeding away.

I asked nervously, "Is it a rogue?"

She nodded, "Yes, but a male. What I don't get is why this one is willing to expose himself in front of a big crowd."

I was cradling my belly as I was holding onto the door handle as tightly as possible since Leah was speeding.

I asked, "Where are we going?"

She said tensely, "out of the city."

I exclaimed, "out of the city? Wouldn't it be better to go more toward the city with more lights and people? They won't be able to do anything in that state."

She said, "Yes, but the sun is going to be down soon, so that plan won't last for long. I also need to phase to destroy the leech and get Seth to come here faster. He is already on his way…Oh! Call Paul."

I dialed Paul and gave the phone to Leah. Paul answered, "Hello?"

Leah stated, "There is a vampire nearby. Get someone to phase and tell Seth to come faster."

Paul growled loudly over the phone and demanded, "where exactly are you guys?"

Leah stated, "we are on the east side of Seattle, I am getting out of the city toward Port Angeles."

Paul declared, "Okay, I am on my way."

He hanged up as Leah sped through the red lights, and I was silently praying that we won't get stopped by the police. Leah drove in silence as we left the city. We were finally out of the city on the freeway when Leah eyes lit up silver and she slowed down to a complete stop. She parked the car a mile away from the freeway.

She told me, "stay in the car, and no matter what happens, do not get out. "

I nodded as Leah carefully got out of the car. She phased when she started to growl at someone that was coming out of the forest.

It was Garrett.

I looked at him confusingly and he was walking confidently toward me no matter how viciously Leah was growling at him. I grabbed the window handle and pulled the window down, and I shouted, "Leah! Don't kill him. That's Garrett. He is a friend of the Cullens!"

The moment I opened the window down, I was hit immediately the smell of vampire. The strong sickly sweet smell of the vampire. It made me very nauseous that I immediately ripped the door open to throw up. I went back inside the car, put the window down and I had a handkerchief on my mouth to try to cover the smell of the vampire as much as I can. The smell was causing my babies to fuss furiously in my stomach, making my belly protrude in jagged moments as I was caressing my belly, trying to calm them down. However, they were not having it. With them constantly moving, it was getting harder for me to breathe at times, but I was trying to take long, slow deep breaths to calm me and the babies down. The relaxation techniques only helped slightly, so it was better than nothing.

Leah was no longer flexing her claws at Garrett, but she did give a warning growl at him. He had his hands up in surrender and he looked at me curiously. He said, "Interesting.. Are you perhaps the human that Carlisle has talked about?"

I nodded meekly, and asked, "what brought you here Garrett? I thought you were on your way to meet Carlisle?"

He nodded politely, "I was, but when I smelled you in the city, I thought it had to be you. I came to give you my thanks for telling me and the Cullens who is my mate. However, I didn't know that you are…expecting and my presence on brought distress on you. My apologies."

I nodded tiredly, "It's fine Garrett. Thank you for your consideration. It will be best if you go now before this becomes a bigger problem. You might run into my very pissed mate, and I don't want to cause a feud between you and the pack."

Right after I said that I heard loud crunching noises on the right. We all turned, and it was Paul and Seth. It seemed like the babies sensed the presence of their father, so they have calmed down and I was able to stop trying to take deep breathing techniques. They both were circling around Garrett, snapping their jaws at them as Garrett was telling me, "Uhm.. Can you tell them that I came in peace? I mean no harm.."

A Volvo appeared on my left side, and Bella, Emmett, Edward and Carlisle came out of the car. I heard someone say, "Paul, Seth. It's okay, you can stand down" and it was Jacob in his human form. He was putting his pants up, so I knew that he ran toward here to prevent things from escalating.

Paul and Seth froze, but Paul kept on growling at Garrett as saliva was dripping down from his jaw. He was snapping at Garrett menacingly, and Garrett just stood there, cringing from being at close proximity of a wolf.

Jacob commanded, "Paul..I know you feel your pregnant mate is threatened by..Garrett, but let him go. We need him in the future."

Paul finally stopped growling. He turned to give one long look at Jacob before phasing back to his human form and approaching me. His eyes were dilated black with silver glow at the rim of his pupils. He opened the car and hugged me. He was sniffing my neck and my hair, and I was rubbing his back, trying to soothe his nerves. I could feel from the bond that he was still anxious and stressed with me being close to the Cullens and Garrett.

Carlisle first spoke, and he chided, "Garrett. I thought I told you specifically to avoid meeting Miss. Alexandria. With your carelessness, you could've lost your life."

Garrett said, "If you had told me that she was expecting, I wouldn't have been so intrigued with meeting her. It makes sense now why the wolves are being so protective over her. I thought you were just exaggerating. How did you know that I was here? "

Edward stepped in to say, "Alice was checking up on you with her visions, and when your future disappeared just an hour ago, we realized that you went to visit Miss. Alexandria. If you had gone to Forks, even if your future had disappeared, it would've come back because Carlisle already spoke with Alpha Jacob with your possible visit."

He said, "Oh..well, no harm, no foul."

He asked nonchalantly, "Can I go?"

He looked at both Jacob and Carlisle. Paul was still holding me, and Jacob asked, "Is it fine, Paul?"

Paul muttered, "yeah."

Carlisle said, "Thank you, Jacob" and head motioned Garrett to follow him. They both disappeared, and Emmett exclaimed, "ah man, I thought we would have to drag Garrett with us."

He grumbled incomprehensibly before disappearing after them. Leah and Seth phased back and went behind my car to change into shorts and a t-shirt. Edward and Bella were standing awkwardly with Jacob.

Seeing Bella as a vampire, it felt weird with her red-colored eyes. I know it will take a few months before her eye-color changes to the hue of drinking animal blood, but Paul was still hugging me, protecting me from them. He was very unsure toward Bella since she is a newborn, and I don't blame him for that. I can't believe that Edward let Bella to get this close to the city.

I forgot about Edward's ability for a moment because he read my mind, so he said, "With the advice that you have given us on how to control her power, Bella has been actively working on her gift. She is at the point that she is able to have full control of her hunger by putting a shield more actively to certain parts of her brain."

Wow. Bella is incredible, but of course since Meyers try to make her a mary sue type of character. Of course, things came naturally to her.

Edward blurted out, "Jacob imprinted."

Everyone got quiet, and I could tell that Jacob growled lowly at Edward. He told Edward, "That wasn't yours to share, Edward."

Edward said cockily, "Bella deserved to know." Wow, what a dick. He was pulling the same line that Jacob told Edward back in Eclipse when Edward took Bella away to Jacksonville without giving her a proper reason to go.

Jacob growled, "I wasn't holding that information to 'protect' her. I was going to tell her when we were alone, but you ruined it as usual."

Bella spoke in now a vampire sweet voice, "You..You..imprinted Jacob? On who? How come you didn't tell me? I have been calling your house, and you wouldn't pick up!"

Jacob sighed as he pinched his nose in frustration, "I was busy Bella. I just became Alpha for crying out loud. I couldn't drop everything to speak to you. I was going to speak to you once everything got settled on my end. And, I imprinted on Leah."

I liked that Jacob hasn't called Bella, Bells like he used to when he still had that insane fixation on her. When he said the last part, he said it with pride and adoration in his eyes. I was glad to see that he didn't show any hesitation on saying who he had imprinted on. He also didn't flaunt Leah like an object nor tell her to show up next to him. Leah naturally went up to his side with her armed crossed to her chest. Leah had a neutral expression on her face as she glanced both at Edward and Bella.

Bella said with a surprise tone, "L-Leah? But, why now?"

Leah said, "Because he needed to become Alpha first in order to accept me, his Alpha Female and mate."

Bella had her mouth half-opened, and she nodded. She gave a weak smile, "I-I'm happy for you, Jacob..you can finally move on from me.."

Just like that? Bella isn't going to cry and complain? That is too easy. There must be something else.

Jacob nodded stiffly, "Yeah. I'm very happy now" and he gave a tight squeeze to Leah's hand. Leah's expression softened only to a degree before she fixed her expression again to a neutral one.

Bella laughed softly, "Then, you won't be my 'sun' anymore, aren't you?"

He shook his head, "Sorry, Bella. Not anymore… You chose your path, and I chose mind…I can't be there for you like I used to. Edward is your husband now, so he will be there for you from this point. You have Renesmee to raise, and I have my pack and Leah to focus on. If.. you're coven need anything, then we can see what we can do, but it'll be best for us to part ways."

Bella sobbed tearlessly, "..O-okay.. Can I still get my one last hug?"

Jacob turned to Leah so that he can ask permission, and Leah nodded to him. I liked that he did that. It shows that he respects Leah to make sure that she is okay with it. I am glad that Leah also let him to give his goodbye to Bella as well. Even though Jacob already said his goodbyes up in the mountains before the newborn fight, this time it felt real and an actual end to their friendship. It was not a goodbye of we will see each other despite of everything, but an actual goodbye to what they had before.

Jacob said, "tell Leah, thanks, Bella. Just one last hug."

Bella stuttered, "th-thank you, Leah" as she embraced Jacob for the last time. She let go, and she got on the car. Edward gave a stiff nod to Jacob and Leah before getting on the car and driving away.

Huh. It seemed like they are still pretty pissed with me from getting Bella banished from the Reservation and Edward almost chewed by Paul, but I wasn't too worried. I was glad that we really won't be hearing from Bella for a long time. I felt relieved and thankful that things didn't get escalated.

Leah broke the silence and said, "okay, I have to go to class now. Since Seth is here, he can replace me.. See you guys later."

She went to grab her backpack from the trunk of the car as she ran off to the forest. Jacob said, "Paul..you can go back home early with Ale. I'll finish the rest for you. I know your wolf spirit won't be happy leaving your mate right now."

Paul turned to Jacob and said, "Thanks, Alpha."

Jacob gave a curt nod to Paul, and Seth said, "and what about me?"

When Jacob was about to respond, Seth turned to look at me and his eyes got wider. His eyes lit up brightly silver at the rims of his pupils, and I gasped. Paul pulled away from me to looked back at me and Seth with a frown in his expression.

I felt one of the babies kicking quickly on my left side. It surprised me that I exclaimed, "woah".

Seth got closer to me, and Paul started growling lowly at him. Seth didn't take heed to his threat, and he kept on waking until he placed his hand on my belly, and one of the babies stopped kicking. He said hesitantly to me, "she..is my unborn imprint. I'm..her protector, Ale."

WHAT?!

I promise. It will NOT be a romantic imprint. Just a protector imprint. I swear! I don't condone grooming. I am not into the whole deal with the child can choose the wolf to be a romantic partner when the child becomes an adult.. It is one thing for the wolf to not pursue a romantic relationship to focus on protecting imprint temporarily until the wolf decides to date. However, it doesn't mean it is okay for the wolf to wait 15+ years for the child grow up to see whether the wolf becomes the child romantic partner. No, I personally am not into that, and I will not be going in that route in this story.

The baby, Evangeline has her own separate mate. Seth will stay as a protector imprint. No changes to his imprinting. She will never ever ever get attracted to Seth. It'll all be explained in the next chapter. I promise.

I got a cold from working with my kids in my job, so my chapters will be a little shorter for the next few days. I will keep posting as much as I can, but I hope you guys be patient with me.
