AUTHOR'S NOTE/DISCLAIMER
This is the last chapter in this fic but not the end of this reality. I will soon be writing a story that continues the lives of Jay and Lilly. Everything familiar belongs to Kurt Sutter, Dick Wolf, FX, and NBC. Lilly belongs to Thewrittennerd who has given me permission to use her. I only own the plot.
PROPOSAL
Jay bit his lip and fiddled with the box in his hands at he sat at a table in Romano's, a fancy restaurant outside of Charming. What if she says 'No'? he worried to himself. He was twenty-eight, and she was twenty-four. What if she didn't want to be tied down to him? She was still pretty young. Would she think that he was trying to hide her away? He just wasn't sure. It was such a fine line with her. But he knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that he loved her and wanted to grow old with her. If she didn't want it, he'd back off as the last thing he'd ever want to do was make her uncomfortable. When he heard footsteps approaching the table, he jumped and went to meet Lilly who smirked when she saw him, giving him a once over in the white dress shirt and black trousers.
"Why so dressed up, Babe?" she wondered. "Not that you don't look good, but…"
"Because I wanted to look nice for you," he responded. And I have something to ask you, but that will come a bit later, he thought to himself. He was going to do this right.
"Well you succeeded," she told him and then kissed him. Love him so much, she thought to herself. Then, she followed him to the table and sat down just as the waiter approached them.
"What will you have to start with?" he asked them.
"Samuel Adams beer if you've got it," Jay requested.
"We do," the waiter said.
"I'll have the same," Lilly decided. Okay, so it wasn't that fancy of a drink, but it worked for them.
"Very good," the waiter stated and then went to get the beverages, bringing them back moments later. "Have you decided what you want, or do you still need a few moments?" he queried.
"I'm ready," Lilly replied.
"Me too," Jay added. "But, ladies first," he stated and she grinned.
"I'll have the steak, well-done with some green beans and rice," Lilly ordered.
"And I'll have a steak, rare with corn and mashed potatoes," Jay requested.
"Very good," the waiter said, writing down the orders and then walking off. Lilly smiled as she took a small swig of the beer she had gotten as she glanced at her boyfriend, frowning in confusion. What's up with him? she wondered, seeing the apprehension on his face. However, before she could say anything, the waiter came back with their plates.
"Be careful, they're hot," he cautioned as he placed the plates in front of the couple.
"Thank you," Jay and Lilly chorused and then the man left as the two began eating. Lilly's eyes flickered as she glanced at Jay. Why does he seem so nervous? she wondered. It didn't make sense. He knew her and he knew that she always enjoyed spending time with him, so why was he looking like he expected her to dump him and go searching for a damn Prospect?
"Babe, is everything okay?" Lilly queried in concern.
"Yeah I'm good," Jay assured, giving her a smile.
"You sure?"
"Yes." Gotta get this just right, he thought to himself. He didn't want to screw this up. He just needed the perfect moment. And that perfect moment would be after dinner…he hoped. Calm. He just had to be calm. But how could he be calm when he had no idea if she would even say yes? But, he'd never find out if he didn't ask…right? Well, here goes nothing, he thought to himself. He sighed and leaned forward.
"What is it?" she queried.
"I love you…so much."
"I know. Jay, are you sure you're all right?" Jay nodded.
"I was…I was wondering if-" his voice trailed off as he pulled a box from his pocket and opened it. "Will you marry me?" Lilly's jaw dropped as she stared at the sparkling diamond that had a gold band.
"Jay." Proposing? He's proposing? she thought to herself. She hadn't thought it would happen. At least…not like this. She was SAMCRO's Princess, and she had always figured a proposal at the Clubhouse would be the most romantic gesture she would get. But of course, Jay had proved her wrong. Jay's eyes flickered in concern.
"Babe?"
"Yes! Yes, I'll marry you!" Jay grinned and slipped the ring on her finger.
WEDDING VOWS
Jay let out a deep sigh as he fiddled with the tie. Hate these stupid things, he thought to himself. But it was worth it today. Today he was marrying the love of his life. Once he was satisfied with the tie, he went to the end of the church and waited. As soon as he heard the bridal chorus, he turned and watched as Lilly walked towards him, wearing a white dress, reaching him moments later.
"Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here today to join these two in holy matrimony. In lieu of traditional vows, Lilly and Jay have chosen to say their own," the priest stated.
''Jaydon Nathaniel Halstead, I take you to be my husband. I've learned to love with my whole heart and not just some of it from my father and stepmother, but it's you who that taught me how to really open it up to all the possibilities of a passionate kind of love. With you, I know life will never be dull but an exciting adventure and thrill ride; one that I am more than happy to join you on the bandwagon of. With this ring, I thee wed,'' she told him.
"Well, damn. How can I top that?" he wondered. "Lillian Azalea Trager, you've been my best friend for years. You've been with me through the good, the bad, the ugly…all of it. From the times when I thought no one could love me or look at me the same, to the times I wondered if I could do my job and still be friends with everyone…you were there, keeping me grounded. I promise to love and cherish you, protect you even though you can take care of yourself," he began to say. Then, "I also promise to treat you as good as my favorite leather jacket and to ride you as much as my motorcycle, and with this ring, I thee wed." Lilly laughed as her father and his friends whooped at this.
"Jay, what the hell?" Will asked and the cop just shrugged even as the cheers continued.
"By the powers invested in me by the state of Illinois, I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride," the priest stated. Grinning, Jay pulled Lilly close and kissed her.
