A week later...
Zen sat on the edge of a Clift, high atop a hill, overlooking the busy town below him. The night sky shined brightly with stars, with an occasional shooting star passing by.
"Zen." His ghost muttered, floating beside him.
"Yeah?" Zen responded calmly, feeling relaxed.
"We should probably go down there. You know? To have some fun?" Ghost suggested.
"But like what? Oh shit..."
"What's wrong?" Ghost asked worried.
"Nothing, it's just that I've been fighting for so long, that I don't know what to do for fun." Zen said before getting an idea.
"You know what? I'll just go down there and figure something out." Zen exclaimed before standing up. "Alright, I'm going to jump."
Zen merely stepped off the Clift, free falling for 4 seconds before jumping mid air, breaking his fall, merely a few feet above the ground. Landing on his feet he quickly looked around, before his armor transmitted off him.
"Alright alright, let's see what we've go-Jesus Christ he's rubbing off me." Zen said, referring to a certain Drifter.
--
After walking around a few minutes, our main character spotted an ice cream stand.
"Ooh, ice cream!" Zen exclaimed. "I haven't had any for some time."
"The way you reacted reminds me of a child." Ghost muttered inside his head.
"Yeah, well, that's cause I have taste buds and you don't." Zen snarked back, before noticing a man staring at him.
'Should have not spoken out loud.' Zen thought, feeling embarrassed.
He shook the feeling off, before walking up to the ice cream stand.
"Just one scoop of vanilla please." Zen requested, receiving a cone before he payed the man some money. Where that money came from? Well let's just say it wasn't exactly earned.
As Zen walked away, licking his ice cream, he noticed it was already melting, slowly dripping a little. He pointed one finger at the cone using his other hand, before shooting a breeze of stasis energy at it. The cone immediately stopped melting, getting slightly harder.
"Thanks Doritos ships!" Zen exclaimed, giggling a little.
'Hahahaha!' Ghost laughed along side him inside his head.
As the 2 walked away, they failed to see that all the plants in the immediate area were frozen.
--
As Zen finished his ice cream, he suddenly felt something wrong.
"Huge energy spike 3 miles away!" Ghost stated.
"Better go check it out." Zen muttered. He looked around, spotting an alleyway in the distance. As he did, he ran towards it, before siding in. His armor appeared all around him, before he summoned his sparrow, and boasted out the alley, heading towards the direction of the spike.
--
He arrived at a large building that practically spelled 'secret stuff' all over it. He noticed that there were men and women running inside the building, wearing black suits and holding guns and-
"Why the fuck do they have melee weapons!" Zen exclaimed, jumping off his sparrow.
"You also ha-" his ghost began.
"I fight fucking Gods! Different story!" Zen shouted. He went inside the entrance, before taking a peek inside.
What he saw was quite brutal. There were limbs and dead bodies everywhere. Blood was practically panting the walls red, and gun shot marks were seen on the walls.
"Ok, definitely need to help these poor guys out." Zen muttered, before sprinting to find the origin of the carnage.
--
Agents one and two crawled around the room, trying to find an escape route. However everywhere they went, there was one of those demons waiting for them, mindlessly killing other agents. Death was almost definitely coming for them, and it would take a miracle to survive.
That's when a miracle occurred.
As the final agent dropped dead, the 2 looked at each other.
"Just stay still." Agent 1 whispered to her partner.
"Hey! I think we got 2 remaining!" One demon shouted.
"Well? Kill them!" Another demon shouted, the voice belonging to the tall Imp with white spots on his body. The same one that they captured.
"Wait, someone's coming!" A humanoid wolf exclaimed, pointing her gun at the open doorway.
The sounds of running could be slowly heard getting louder and louder as the 4 demons prepared themselves.
That's when A strange, armored, sci-fi looking guy came into the room.
--
Zen entered the room, before finally seeing the culprits behind the slaughter. It was demons. Except these ones were a little different to him, somehow. But it mattered little. He quickly glanced down and noticed 2 people. A man and a women in suits, just like the rest. And they were alive, but scared.
"BANG!" A bullet bounced off his helmet. Zen slowly turned his head at the perpetrator, staring at a small, white haired Imp, with a bow tie, his face having freckles.
"Now you fucked up." Zen calmly stated before approaching the Imp slowly. However the 4 demons did not exactly accept that and proceeded to fire at him with some more bullets. This however, did nothing. Soon clicks could be heard from their guns, indicating that they ran out of bullets.
"How the fuck are you still standing!" An Imp with white spots across his face shouted.
'Stop playing, just kill them.' Ghost stated calmly.
Zen began his slow approach to the small bow tie Imp. It didn't matter how long it took. It would end with there brutal deaths.
A hellhound decided to do something and jumped at him, swinging an axe. Zen merely raised his hand. As the axe was swung down, it broke on contact with his hand. He then grabbed the shocked hellhound by the hand, before lightly punching her in her stomach.
She was immediately flung back into a concert wall, before falling down with a thud, unconscious. She coughed up some blood, indicating the damage done.
"IM GOING TO FUCKING KILL YOU!" The white spotted Imp screamed, completely consumed by rage. However the Imp could not execute its plan, as the room suddenly went on lockdown, with red lights flashing everywhere.
"Ok what the fuck was that?" Zen muttered, feeling confused. He looked to his left and saw the 2 agents from before, now pressing on a control panel.
'Ok Zen! Kill them now, it's getting kinda big now.' Ghost ordered.
'Let me make a small speech first.' Zen thought back.
'For fuck sake.'
"For your crimes against humanity, I sentence you to death. Permanently. I recommend closing your eyes to make it easi-" Zen immediately stopped his speech, sensing something dark coming.
He looked to his left, back at the 2 agents, only 2 see the female one to be giggling and screaming at the same time.
'Get ready.' Ghost stated to Zen.
Suddenly, a spring of back liquid was vomiting out from the female agent. As it splashed against the ceiling, the liquid turned into a gas of sorts, slowly morphing into something.
"HÆVË ŸŒÛ ĘVĖR ŚËĒÑ Æ RÊÃŁ DËMØÑ BÊFØRĘ?" The agent suddenly said to him in a distorted voice. Her eyes were wide, and slightly red, with her mouth stretched into a creepy smile.
Soon after asking that question, the women falls down, unconscious, with her co worker dragging her away.
Zen turned his attention back to the black mist, as it soon formed into what could be a called a bird. It looked at him directly with multiple red eyes before screeching at him. The evil laughter the creature made was quite chilling. And yet...it meant nothing to him.
See this is where the difference between Zen's universe and this universe is really shown. When you've been fighting for 7 years straight, at the age of 22, and have faced death multiple times, than this feels like a mere cheap scare.
"You should have stayed hidden, cause now your dead." Zen whispered loudly. The misty bird, beast demon immediately stopped screeching. As it did It dispersed, revealing a tall, owl demon dressed in royalty. It looked at him directly with its 4 red eyes. 2 one it's face and 2 on its feathered forehead. It started at him for a few seconds in confusion, before seemingly recognizing him.
"I know you." The demon finally spoke in a strangely British accent. "You must be that hu-"
Zen rushed the demon at great speeds, slamming onto him headfirst, and cutting the owl demon off. Stolas was flung into the concert wall, making a small crater in the wall before pushing himself out it.
"I think hawk moon should exorcise this motherfucker." Zen said to himself before taking out his hawkmoon. He quickly shot it at Stolas, hitting the demon in the arm.
Stolas screamed in agony, while the 3 Imps stared on in horror, wondering how a human acquired such a weapon. Zen proceeded to shoot another shot, However this time, the goeta demon was prepared. He lifted his talon like hands, summoning a purple bubble around himself.
The bullet bounced off the bubble, shaking it a little.
Zen put away his hawkmoon and took out his Eriana's vow. He shot it at the barrier, breaking it instantly.
"Stolas! Bring us back to hell!" The little bow tie Imp screamed. Stolas flicked his hands, creating a portal behind him. As he did, It began sucking everything in, including Zen. The owl demon flew backwards in, before the unconscious hellhound was also sucked in, with the 3 Imps going in straight after.
"For fuck sake! Not again!" Zen shouted, before finally getting sucked into the portal along with everyone else before the portal closed.
The 2 agents that were still alive slowly stood up, wondering what had happened.
"What the fuck just happened?" The female agent whispered, now conscious but still freaked out at being possessed.
"I don't know. BUT THAT DUDE WAS FUCKING COOL!" The second agent shouted in excitement.
--
"Bruh, where am I?" Zen muttered, slowly getting up. As he looked around, he noticed that he was in an office of sorts. It had a large rectangular table with multiple chairs on each side, and what appeared to be a whiteboard.
Zen turned around, only to come face to face with the same owl demon, now with a pissed expression on his face.
Zen tried to take out his hawkmoon again, but the owl demon widened his eyes and cast a red light on him.
"AHHHHHH!" Zen screamed, feeling distorted and stumbled backwards before his back hit the wall. The glare given by the demon was somehow effecting him, and acted like a flash bang of sorts.
'I have to endure it!' Zen thought frantically. He opened his eyes and looked directly at the light. He slowly began walking towards the blinding light.
"How are you enduring THIS!" Stolas exclaimed, increasing his petrifying glare.
'Tell me when to leap at him!' Zen ordered his ghost.
'Just keep moving...almost...almost...NOW JUMP!' Ghost signaled.
Zen made a leap of faith, with his arms stretched. He hit and landed on something soft and feathery, indicating that he had his target in mind.
"GET OFF ME!" The owl demon screamed. Zen made a blind guess and placed his hands on the owls face, covering his eyes. As his vision cleared, he positioned his thumbs over the 2 forehead eyes.
Stolas grabbed his hands, trying to take them off. His strength was incredible, and definitely superhuman. Zen felt himself losing the fight, feeling his hands being tore away from the demons face, and slowly blinding him once more.
In the heat of the moment, Zen decided to go ape shit. He brought his head down like a hammer on the demons head. He repeated this 6 times rapidly. This was enough for demon's grip to loosen a little, allowing Zen to finally place his thumbs on Stolas's eyes.
Zen placed pressure on them before gouging them. Stolas began screaming in pain and agony before kicking the Guardian off his body.
Zen was send flying across the room before smashing through the concert wall and falling down onto the street below. An unfortunate hooker who happened to be below him was crushed into a bloody mush when Zen landed down on her.
--
Blitzo watched in horror from behind his desk as Stolas stumbled around, with his forehead dripping blood everywhere.
"YOUR MAJESTY! ARE YOU ALRIGHT?" Moxxie shouted next to him. Normally Blitzo would make a remark about how dumb of a question that was, but at the moment? It was quite serious, even for him.
Stolas stopped screaming by that point, looking around before spotting the hole in the wall. Stolas let out a demonic growl before jumping straight out the building, rage clouding his thoughts.
--
Zen got up again, shaking some red goo and hair off himself before hearing the sound of screeching from above. He looked out, before spotting the Owl demon flying high above in the sky.
"Ok where the actual fuck I'm I?" Zen exclaimed, spotting the blood red sky. As he looked around himself, he noticed multiple demons staring at him, while standing on the sidewalk. They were all Imps, though he did see a couple of succumbses and strange demons with a huge and colorful variety of looks.
'Zen, we still need to take that owl man out!' Ghost said, pulling Zen's attention back to the flying owl. Time to hunt some ducks.
"Ghost. Play STOMPBOX by the Qemists." Zen ordered, with a loud song playing from his armor speaker. Everyone around him continued staring, confused as fuck for an obvious reason. Some demons even opened there windows from there apartment building just to check it out.
Zen then took out the Heir apparent, spinning it up before firing it at the flying demon in the air. That's when everyone proceeded to run away.
"Come on. Come on." Zen muttered patiently, hoping to get a shot on the owl.
Stolas however was still quite good at flying, even with 2 gouged eyes. After all, there was a reason he was a major Prince in hell. He dodged and turned as bullets barely missed him. Making a quick drop, he flew down into the street and began circling Zen.
Zen just continued shooting at him, not caring where he shot. The high powered bullets shredded through the wooden and concrete building, with the wooden parts lighting up on fire.
As Stolas circle around him, continuing to dodge and turn, the unfortunate demons that were still in the street were blown to body bits in the cross fire.
' ZEN! He's about to get really close to you!' Ghost exclaimed worrisomely.
'I know.' Zen stated in a calm tone. He dispersed his Heir apparent, finally using his super for the first time in a long time.
His body cracked with pure arc energy, before a staff of pure arc was created out of thin air. Everything around him in the immediate area was electrified so much that it was disintegrated.
As Stolas flew at him head on, Zen twirled his staff rapidly. Stolas tried to grab onto Zen but, the second he touched the staff, he was flung back backwards.
Stolas laid on his back, shaking uncontrollably, not out of rage, but out of shock. Get it? Cause he was shocked?...I'm sorry please continue reading.
Zen then ran towards the vulnerable owl. He began whacking the demon in the face, using his arc staff, over and over, until slowly, blood could be seen, slowly gushing out.
Stolas however did have one trick up his sleeve. In a moment of luck, Stolas forced himself up and struck his hand out, hitting zen in his stomach and piercing through his armor, shutting him off the music.
"Gah!" Zen gasped, before Stolas pulled his hand out, ripping out a piece of his organ. Zen froze, before shaking for a moment. Stolas smirked, knowing that he won the battle.
That was where he was wrong. Zen stared at him through his helmet. It was infuriating for him.
'Zen...don't do it.' Ghost exclaimed frantically.
Zen however didn't listen. That's when he went completely ape shit. He dropped his staff before grabbed the owl demons head and began bashing his fist into his face. Stolas tried to attack him again with his claws and summoned his magical powers to end him once and for all. Zen however did not give him the chance. He summoned a stasis icicle before stabbing it into Stolas's stomach.
--
Stolas immediately stopped moving, feeling paralyzed.
Stolas felt himself practically drained of everything. At that single moment, felt himself alone, cold, and dark. It felt far worse than the spear of an exterminator. It felt, cold, unforgiving. Something that could make Satan himself beg for Gods to end him.
But this? This was not something made by God. This was something far more powerful, and far more, not eldritch, no, something far more ancient. He couldn't explain it, everything was going dark. He couldn't even feel pain anymore.
--
Zen continued bashing his fist against him. The bird was now completely limp, with the stasis icicle now red with blood.
As he continued on, he heard the crying of a baby. Zen immediately stopped punching, quickly searching around for the source of the noise.
He spotted 2 demons, an Imp and A succumbs, with the Imp holding a bundle of blankets in his hands, shaking it softly. They seemed to be trying to cross the street silently, without drawing his attention. The succumbs was already trying to frantically calm the baby down, but it was no use. The child's cry's were already triggering his senses.
Soon enough, the 2 demons noticed him staring at them. They both froze, afraid to move.
Zen dropped the owl demon, slowly walking over to the couple.
"Show me the blanket." Zen ordered from his mask.
"Please don't hurt him, he's just a-" the succumbs desperately spoke, coming in between the him and the Imp.
"Show me the blanket, and I'll let you live." Zen ordered again.
"Please don't hurt him. He hasn't done anything!" The succumbs repeated, tears flowing down her pinkish red face. The wailing of the baby was practically begging him to save it.
Zen pushed the succumbs to his side, before grabbing the Imp gently by the shoulder and brought him close himself. That's when he finally saw the baby underneath the blanket. It was a cute looking baby, with 2 small horns popping out it's head. It's-no-his skin was pinkish red, like the succumbs from before, but also had some white spots on it. That's when 2 things dawned on him. That the Imp and succumbs were a couple, and that the baby in the Imps had was
"A baby. It's a baby." Zen whispered. Miraculously, the baby Imp/incubus stopped crying, staring up at Zen in curiosity. Zen touched the baby boy's nose, causing it to giggle.
He let the Imp go, before turning around and walking back. The couple quickly ran away with the child, happy to be alive.
Zen looked around at the area around him. The street was littered with dead bodies, and the building around him had fire or smoke coming out of them. He could hear some screams coming from different places, probably the injured, or the grieving.
"Oh God. They do have families." Zen muttered, the reality hitting him harder than anything before.
"Zen, we still have to deal with the owl. We can...we can figure out this later." His ghost suggested, also disturbed by the realization.
Zen pushed his emotions aside, before focusing back onto the owl. He began walking back towards the dying owl demon, his clothes now ragged and slightly brunt and wet with blood.
"Time to end this." Zen said to himself, taking out his hawkmoon. However he never got a chance to finish his work, as a red portal suddenly opened from underneath him. Zen fell down, before the portal disappeared immediately.
"Got him! He's gone now!" A Millie shouted, holding the Grimoire in her hands.
"HOLD ON STOLAS, IM COMING!" Blitzo screamed, running up to the unconscious owl demon.
