That Makes Absolutely No Sense
Missy was shocked. One moment she was checking the social media reaction to her's and Dean's big win against LEviathan in Miami, which people were still talking about.
The next, Ashley physically crawled out of her laptop's monitor like the girl from the Ring.
The laptop seemed more or less intact. It was just, one second Ashley walked in from the side of the screen, then she was pressing against the glass, then she was out.
Now she was just standing there like it was normal.
"...How?"
Ashley shrugged. "Turns out symbiotes and their hosts can travel through phone lines and the Internet. Would have been nice to know that earlier."
"Yeah, but... How?"
Ashley continued to shrug. "Dunno, just can."
"But the internet isn't a physical place. It's just ones and zeroes and..."
"On the inside, it's more like a series of tubes, up until you hit the blogosphere. Then it's more like a hippy music festival except instead of doing drugs everyone is driving around in cars powered by hamsters on wheels."
Missy blinked. "You're fucking with me, aren't you?"
"Maybe," Ashley replied with a smug smirk.
Missy started massaging her own temples. "Oh my god, this makes absolutely no sense. What were you doing in there, anyway?"
"I was trying to find where Dragon lives. I think she's an AI."
Missy sighed. "Why?"
"Becuase her entire backstory, persona, and modus operandi screams AI. I mean, figuring it out isn't rocket surgery, but whenever I ask her about it she changes the subject instead of confirming or denying it."
"So you decided to check by breaking into her home... via the internet," Missy responded incredulously
"Well, anything sounds bad when you phrase it like that!" Ashley exclaimed, on the defensive. "Go wording it the worst way and saying it in that tone."
"So what were the results, anyway?"
"Dunno, couldn't get past her firewalls," Ashley admitted. "We're supposed to be immune to fire by now but I still almost got my butt burned pretty bad."
"But that doesn't..." Missy was developing such a headache by now. "firewalls are supposed to be metaphorical and... How does that work!?"
"If I knew, I'd tell you!"
AN: so this is non-canon, obviously... But being able to travel through phone lines and the internet is a canonical power of the Symbiotes. It has something to do with dispersing molecularly along electrical currents but it's mostly just a goofy thing from the 90s.
