Chapter 7: Pond Panic (Part 2)

Aperamon rammed into the Agumon, forcing it into the ground. "Proto Agumon!" The Guilmon yelped, before leaping at Aperamon, raising its claws, "Shadow Smasher!" It slammed its claws into the larger Digimon, white light flickering from them. Like before, the attack seemed to do nothing, and Aperamon smashed into the other Digimon, sending it flying across the lake.

"What did I do?" Chelsie heard Jake mumble, before turning to look at him. The teenage boy was staring at Aperamon, his eyes wide with fear and horror, maybe even a bit of guilt.
"You did something, that's for sure," Christina shook her head, "but not something good." Christina turned to Cacomon, briefly nodding, before turning to Chelsie, "there's only one way to stop it." Chelsie nodded, turning to Mentamon, who stared blankly across the lake. Suddenly, in a tremendous leap, Mentamon flung itself across the clear water, Cacomon gliding beside it. Both girls held up their Digivices,
"Mentamon, Digivolve!"
"Cacomon, Digivolve!"

A white light engulfed their partners. "Mentamon Digivolve to…" Mentamon's body began to shift rapidly, before the light vanished, revealing Symbomon, "Symbomon!"
"Cacomon Digivolve to…" Cacomon's body began to stretch, before the light shot away from it, revealing Bugmon, "Bugmon!"

The two champion-stage Digimon landed on the other side of the lake, Aperamon standing in front of them, scraping one of its forelegs across the ground menacingly. "Dashing Smash!"
"Ghost Needles!"
Symbomon sped towards Aperamon, raising its feathered claws, while Bugmon raised its tail, shooting small, thin, turquoise needles from the tip. As the needles zoomed past Symbomon and crashed into Aperamon, it let out a pained screech, before charging towards Symbomon. As the two collided, Symbomon raked its claws across Aperamon's face, before being sent flying back towards Bugmon. Aperamon opened its mouth, sending large clumps of sticky mud towards its opponents. Bugmon flew out of the way, but Symbomon wasn't as lucky, as the mud hit it, it felt to the ground, trying to wriggle itself free, but to no avail.

"Symbomon!" Chelsie shouted in shock, staring at her partner. It was all up to Bugmon now.

"Strong Winds!" Bugmon shouted, flapping its wings, causing a turquoise tornado to appear, the tornado rammed into Aperamon, but it still stood its ground, before spitting more mud at Bugmon, hitting its wings. As Bugmon collapsed to the ground, unable to move, Christina cried out "Bugmon, no!"

With their partners down, neither tamer could do anything, unless…

"Smoking Air!" Fumusmon rose from the trees, spitting a mouthful of smoke into Aperamon's face. Aperamon shook the smoke away, before charging into Fumusmon, slamming it to the ground as well.

"I think I know how to beat it." Christina spoke up, "we can't just use brute force, we'll need to use something else. Maybe a distraction."
"But what will that do?" Jake quietly spoke, shaking his head,
"if it's distracted, we could have the Digimon and Protomon here dog-pile it until it can't get up and is forced into submission." Christina's eyes glimmered with wisdom,
"but who'll can distract it?" Chelsie tilted her head,
"I could." Jake mumbled, stepping forwards, "might as well."

The girls stood still, holding their breathe as Jake slowly strode around the lake, towards Aperamon. They had already told the Digimon and Protomon nearby the plan, and so now, they just had to wait until they could strike. As Jake closed the gap between himself and the Virus Protomon, the air became still, almost suffocating.

"Aperamon, it's me, your tamer, remember?" Jake's voice was full of dread, laced with sorrow. It was partially his fault this happened, but he was making up for it. Maybe this could work, without the rest of the plan coming through. The tense feeling in Chelsie's body grew as silence answered the teenager, the creature in front of him not even making an effort to responded.

Without a sound, LeafYagimon came from the trees above, glancing at Jake, before resting its large eyes on Chelsie and Christina, "what's going on? And why hasn't you given the signal yet?" It quietly asked,
"we're waiting. Just a few more moments." Christina answered it. The goat Digimon nodded, before wordlessly jumping back into the trees, disappearing in the leaves.

"Are you listening to me?" His voice grew louder, with a hint of annoyance in his tone. Aperamon stared blankly at him, not even blinking. "You know what? I'm sick of you!" Jake practically yelled, "you're not listening to me, you're attacking literally everything, and you don't even respond to me! What kind of partner are you?"

That was the last straw, it seemed. Aperamon charged at Jake, it's pale, pink eyes glowing with rage.

"Now!" Chelsie and Christina shouted in unison. Around them, they could hear the stomping and smashing of many different Digimon and Protomon running and jumping, all towards their one, common enemy, Aperamon. Within seconds, at least three Digimon, the Agumon, the Guilmon and even a strange looking Gabumon, were already on top of it, bombarding Aperamon with attacks. It wasn't long before the rest of the Digimon and Protomon were on top of it, sending barrages of attacks it's way. Rising from their muddy holds, Mentamon and Cacomon had begun to attack too, helping to fend of their attacker.

After a few quick seconds, Aperamon collapsed to the ground, holding its forelegs above its head, shaking with terror, but the attacks continued.

"I think you can stop now…" Jake stared at the mob of Digimon and Protomon surrounding Aperamon.
"Yeah, you can stop now!" Chelsie cried, running over to Jake, Christina at her side. But to their horror, only a few Protomon had stopped,
"come on Proto Gabumon, we gotta go!" The Guilmon was dragging Proto Gabumon away from the mob, the Agumon at it's side.
"But I don't wanna! Proto Agumon, tell BrightGuilmon to stop!" The reptile Protomon whined,
"sorry, but it's probably time for us to quit." Proto Agumon replied.

"Stop!" Chelsie cried, trying to push her way past the Digimon, but to no avail. Suddenly, a chirpy voice rang out from the trees,
"sorry tamer, but we can't do that." A small, red, dragon-like Digimon stepped out of trees.

"Is that…" Christina stared at the dragon Digimon in wonder, "a Fierimon?" Her face lit up, "that's one of my favourites out of the new Digimon! I can't believe I'm actually seeing one!"
"That's right tamer," Fierimon began, a smug smile crossing its short snout, "I'm Fierimon, one of the best Digimon there ever is." It flew up to Christina, landing gently on her shoulder, "and I can be all yours, but only if you choose me to be your partner, and only me."
Christina's eyes lit up for a split second, before realisation hit her, "but I can't. Cacomon is my partner." She glanced at the Bug Protomon, who was floating beside her, it's bug-like eyes wide,
"does that matter?" Fierimon tilted its head, its yellow eyes bright, "wouldn't I be worth your time? I'm a much more powerful Digimon than it'll ever be." It raised its head proudly, "I could help you so much more, and I'm much cuter too."

Cacomon stared at Christina solemnly, "but I've spent more time with Cacomon, and I feel like we're getting closer as partners." She shook her head, "I don't think I could ever throw that away."

Fierimon scoffed, then flew back over to the trees, landing gently on the ground, it's tail lashing. "Well so be it." It turned away, "PurpleMentamon, get over here!"

A Mentamon came from the trees, its usual yellow scales replaced with black, looming scales, its green feathers now purple. A faint green glowed from its eyes, which quickly disappeared as it raised its head. A soft growling came from beside Chelsie, she looked down to see Mentamon standing beside her, its body poised to attack. A small snake slithered towards PurpleMentamon, before clambering onto its neck, coiling around it, the snake's green eyes sharp as it stared at its opponents.

"You lot have fun now!" Fierimon cheerfully spoke, before dashing into the trees, disappearing into the green abyss.

"Loving Glare." The snake Digimon's pupils widened as it put on a cutesy face, though its eyes kept their sharp shape. Cacomon froze in the air, its own eyes widening, before being rammed into by PurpleMentamon, sending the bug Digimon to the ground with a soft thud.
"Cutesy Bite!" The snake Digimon then lunged at Mentamon, biting it with its short, pink fangs. Mentamon smacked the yellow Digimon's head away, before leaping into the air,
"Light Scatter!" Orbs of light shot at the duo, but PurpleMentamon swiftly dodged, leaping out of the attacks range. PurpleMentamon ran at Mentamon again, slamming it to the ground as well.

Chelsie grabbed her Digivice from her pocket, frantically look at it,
why won't this thing work? Especially now, of all times!

Christina was doing the same, tears streaming down her face, something Chelsie had never seen her do before. "Cacomon, you've gotta get up, please…" The blonde girl crouched beside her partner. Chelsie got down on her knees beside Mentamon, who was laying on the ground, defeated, "come on bud, you've gotta beat them." It felt like all hope had been lost already, and they didn't even get a chance to fight back. In the corner of Chelsie's vision, she saw a flash of white. She turned around to see what it was, but a group of Digimon were flung out in all directions. She noted each one, Crocodilimon, a BlueBrightGuilmon, a Radixmon and a Lacertamon. All four Digimon landed roughly on the ground, before getting up and fleeing to the trees, their eyes locked on a single thing, a large, dark pink axolotl Protomon with fluffy, purple whiskers, a purple mohawk on the back of its head, large golden crests on the sides of its head, a long, purple and gold tail. It had four deep, magenta fangs and a pale pink skeleton pattern running across its body. A golden antenna hung behind its head, and its beady black eyes showed one thing; vengeance.
"Toximon!" It cried in a familiar sounding voice, but instead of being high pitched and sweet, it was deeper and menacing.

"Axolotl Splash!" It cried, before swiping its tail horizontally. In front of it, a wave of water appeared, heading straight for PurpleMentamon.
"Swallowing Shadows." PurpleMentamon disappeared, before reappearing in front of the wave, the snake gone from its neck.
"Hey wait, you forgot me-" The snake started, before cutting itself of with its own shriek of terror as the water crashed into it, washing it towards the trees. As it got up, it turned to PurpleMentamon, "you can stay here, but I personally dislike getting wet!" It said as it quickly slithered into the trees. The black and purple Mentamon nodded, "this won't be the last you see of us." It spoke in a raspy voice, as if it didn't speak much, "we shall return."
"yeah, just like how you came back here after the nursery incident." Toximon joked, earning complete silence from its opponent,
"mock us, and you shall be sorry." PurpleMentamon said, before disappearing into a mist of darkness.

Christina looked up at Jake, who was standing proudly beside her, his arm outstretched. She held his hand as he pulled her to her feet, before both of them let go.
Chelsie walked over to them, "I thought Axomon turned evil when you evolved it…" She stammered,
Jake shook his head, "well I fixed it. While those other Digimon were attacking Aperamon, it went back to normal, and I was able to evolve it normally. Then we destroyed those weaker Digimon."
"At least you made up for causing this mess." Christina smiled at him,
"I had to, it was the least I could do."

Everyone, excluding Jake, began to chuckle and smirk.
