Spilled Wine Did the Crime

It was Lena's idea to get the blanket. Kara thought nothing of it. Sharing a blanket was what friends did when watching a movie. It wasn't cold as far as Kara could tell, but, again,it was what friends did. Lena had never had her over to hang out, so Kara felt at ease. She felt like their friendship was moving beyond professional, beyond the surface familiarity. Of course it was. She was at Lena's house, sitting on her couch in front of a giant home theater set up. While she waited, Kara looked around the room, in awe of the furnishings, artwork, and technology, which seemed to blend together in a welcoming, peaceful way. Kara remember the fad of Feng Shui. In truth, she knew it wasn't a fad, but a real philosophy of environmental flow.

"Here were are," said Lena entering the room carry a tray of meat and cheese in one hand and bottle of wine with two glasses in the other. Draped over her shoulder was a large forest green afghan. The design was obscured, but Kara didn't care. Lena put the plate and the wine on the table and situated them close enough to the edge they could be reached from the couch. "I hope you like Chardonnay."

"Of course," Kara, replied absently. She could not get drunk, but that didn't mean she didn't like wine.

Depositing the afghan on the back of the couch, Lena extracted the cork and poured the two glasses and sat on the couch, crossing her legs. She patted the seat next to her as he smiled, showing her beautifully white teeth punctuated by vibrant red lipstick. Kara smiled in return as she as crossed the room and sat on the couch, further away than the brunette had indicated.

"I'm not going to bit you, Kara," Lena said with and incredulous smirk. "We're friends, aren't we?"

"Well...er, of c-course," Kara replied, her eyes flitting from Lena to the woman's elegant fingers patting the red upholstery. She scooted closer, still sitting rigidly.

Lena appraised Kara's awkwardly demure position; knees closed, back straight, hand wringing nervously in her lap, looking about like a cat chasing a laser pointer.

"Kara?" Lena asked, leaning in. "Is everything alright? You look like a poor doe expecting a pack of wolves around the next corner. Relax. I could rub your shoulders if you're feeling tense?"

"No, that's okay," Kara responded, reaching for the glass of wine, too strongly and knocking it over onto the wood flooring. She let if fall, somehow seeing through her anxiety that could stop it, but in doing so would expose herself. She jumped up horrified, which was only partly a ruse. Lena watched intently from the couch, unperturbed.

"Oh my goodness!" Kara exclaimed, her cheeks blushing bright red. "I need to get this cleaned up. Your floors. The rug!"

Lena rose in a fluid motion and was at Kara's side in an instant, touching her elbow. "No sense crying over spilled wine, for heaven sake," Lena said, tracing the line up to Kara's shoulder.

"But, the s-stain?" Kara said, as her flustered state dissipated at Lena's reassuring touch.

"You look like you need a hug?" Lena said, opening her arms invitingly. "Come here and get a hug and then we can sit down and enjoy the movie."

Kara Zor-el was not stupid. She wouldn't be manipulated. Kara Danvers on the other hand might be susceptible. Kara was both of them an as much as no alarm bells were going off, something didn't seem right. Lena was her friend. That she knew for sure. Lena wouldn't hurt her. But the wine. The movie. The blanket. It all felt more like a d-

Suddenly Lena's hands were were cupping her face, her bright eyes boring into Kara's, her lips brushed with red, coming closer. She felt the warmth of Lena's hands and the soft pressure of her breasts touching her own. Lena's eyes were more more than bright, they were filled it emotion, pain and desire circling each other like a double helix. The moment slowed and Kara understood that this was Lena's goal from the start. Call it seduction or setting the stage or a date where one party wasn't in on it. Kara was uncomfortable but she wasn't sure why. She had dated a few men, even recently, but none of them seemed as effortless as being around Lena. None of those men were as interesting, by far. And, even if they were good looking, Lena was beautiful. Kara hadn't thought it like that before. She could see that Lena was an empirically desirable woman. But she had never thought it like that for herself. She had never kissed a girl. Never really wanted to until this moment. It was a lot to process as that sculpted jaw and full lips came toward her. Kara decided to allow Lena to kiss her.

Lena's soft lips pressed on hers, as the other woman's hands dropped from her cheeks to her neck. Again, the warmth of flesh on flesh. Kara opened her mouth as Lena's wrist rested on the sensitive space above her clavicle. Lena deepened a second kiss, venturing her tongue into Kara's mouth.

"W-whoa," Kara breathed, breaking the kiss and seeing Lena's eyes still closed, her stunning face flush pink with passion. "What as that for?"

Lena's eyes opened, momentarily glazed over with longing, before returning to the moment. "What better way to steal your anxiety than to give you a kiss?"

"One could say that that would open up another box," Kara replied, involuntarily inhaling the scent of Lena's perfume.

"Are you worried about the wine?"

"No," Kara said, adjusting he glasses. "Not anymore."

"You've got some stray hairs there," Lena said, reaching to tuck them behind Kara's ear.

There was the heat, again. The warmth of Lena's touch. The gentleness of her fingers brushing the top of Kara's ear. The warmth was not only specific to Lena's touch; it was spreading inside Kara like a blossoming rose. She felt a touch on her lips, realizing it was Lena's thumb pressing across her lower lip. "And, some lipstick, there."

"Kiss me again," Kara heard herself say.

"Okay," Lena said tentatively. "Are you sure."

"Yes," Kara answered immediately.

Lena leaned in to kiss Kara, again, and was surprised when the bespectacled blonde leaned in as well. When it was over, bother were flustered, breathless, and resting hand on each others chests.

"You have a little something, there," Kara said, reaching up and pressing her thumb across the brunette's swollen upper lip.

"Do you want to watch the movie?" Lena asked, unsure whether or not she should or could keep touching Kara.

"I do," Kara replied. "As long as we get to snuggle under the blanket."
