RL— #1: Silver Ring

--

Levi stumbled into his office, his ODM straps half off off his body. In his desperation to be clean he tripped and went sprawling. He chucked his chin painfully on the floor, biting into his tongue. He briefly tasted blood. Then rolled over and resumed the fight once more. He needed to get in the bath because the blood on him wasn't his own, or a Titans. It was Petra's— Levi's fiancé was more than dead, pieces of her strewn across the forest floor when Levi flew over. He'd barely had time to comprehend that it was the love of his life before the female Titan came barreling out of the gloom. Levi had twisted his ankle bad, bad enough that he felt the pain in his knee too. He finally got the shoulder straps loose enough to bend down for the ones along his hips. He felt tears building up behind his grey eyes, which dilated and constricted again and again as his pulse raced, still high on adrenaline that it muted his emotions and pain.

But one thing was real and raw, Petra is dead.

Levi can't stop the images his brain throws up behind his eyes. The female Titan. Petra, head forever gazing up at the sky, her neck at a sickening angle. The rest of her mushed into the roots of the tree.

Levi finally kicks off the gear and crawls for the bathroom. His stomach churns, and he's shaking just as he gets his face over the toilet bowl and vomits. He doesn't care that he might be missing meetings, or is supposed to boost the cadet's morale after the slaughter of their comrades and lovers. Levi doesn't care if someone thinks him selfish to just want to be alone for once. To be frail, and afraid, and in pain even if he has to be alone to express those things is better than keeping them bottled so tightly inside.

He vomits again, his eyes squeezing shut a little tighter.

Levi feels like a tiny, ugly little thing, sitting in a messy heap on his bathroom floor. His door is wide open but he knows no one will dare come in here. At least not for a while.

He can't help it. The tears poured, and tiny broken sobs wracked his frame with their silence. Levi cradles his head in his hands, gently rocking back and forth like that will make him feel better. If it does, he is too far gone to take proper notice. He shifts, but stops immediately when pain sings up his leg and pings in his hip. Shit, his injury must've been more than he thought. As the adrenaline begins to fade, the pain sweeps in mounting with every second that he stays crunched up on the floor. Eventually, he lays down on his side, resting his head on the cool tiles.

Levi wants to scream but he feels so breathless, so light headed and hurt that all he can muster is a pathetic drawn out whimper. Glassy eyes find yours as you stroll through the room. You find Levi in a complete mess.

A literal wreck.

His hair and clothing askew, snot, tears and blood all over him. And he smells like vomit. But the one thing that has you rushing to his aid is his tears. He's crying harder than you've ever seen anyone cry. Your best friend, your captain, is having a total mental breakdown. When you lean down to gather him in your arms, he weakly clutches at your shirt and buries his face into your collarbone. It takes a bit of shifting but you get him into your arms, bridal style. He doesn't whine about being carried, which is a testament to how awful he must feel.

He tries to speak but with his face hidden, and his blubbering you don't catch a word of what he's saying. You head for the exit but Levi's panicked shriek stops you in your tracks. You glance down and find him shaking, fists trembling as they weakly punch on your chest.

"Levi it's okay," you try to reassure him. But he isn't having any of it. Levi cried and cried until his begs were coherent. "I'm taking you to Hanji, they can help—"

"N….o!" He bawled, putting a little more force behind his hits. "Don…. Goooo!!!" His words dissolved again into nothingness but it was evident he was really starting to panic. So you turned around and carried him to his bed where you gently laid him down. Levi sniffed, then grimaced. He leaned over his waste bin and hacked a huge glob of mucus out. Your face contorted in disgust, then relaxed when you saw his wife silenced eyes welling up again.

"No, no, no," you cooed gently stroking his hair, "Tell me what happened? Can you do that for me so I can help you,"

Levi wanted to. He honestly did but just the thought of never seeing Petra again. That the ring he'd bought, the one she insisted on wearing even beyond the walls, was useless in its purpose now. You caught sight of the ring still hugging his pinky finger, and caught on.

You immediately joined him on the bed. Your hand went behind his head to draw it down to your chest while your other hand gently wrapped itself around his torso. You cuddled each other for what felt like hours as Levi grieved his first love.

KL — #2: Kamona

Kenny anxiously paced the length of his jail cell. Although, he can't go more than a few laces in either direction because of his chains. They are screwed deep into the ground in the center of the cell. Then Kenny hears it, footsteps.

Mutltiple people coming down the stairs.

Levi turned to Erwin and Hange, more serious than he's ever been in his life. "No matter what he says, don't say a word. I'm looking at you Zoe. I'm asking some questions."

Hange nodded, eager to listen in. Finally! More Levi knockwedge. Erwin and Hange stood motionless outside the cell, while Levi went in.

The younger man pulled up a stool and sat.

Kenny finally halted his pacing and took a seat on the floor. "Evening, Levi."

"Shut your face," Levi instantly snapped. "I'm the one talking here."

Kenny chuckled but didn't say much else.

"First off, I want to know why you're here."

"In the Corps?" Kenny teased. "I want to join your boy-band."

"Like hell you are!" Levi growled, then calmed himself a little before proceeding. "Second, that day in The Underground, when… when you came to visit my mother. Why did you take me with you?"

Kenny laughed, but his eyes flashed with hurt. "As cruel as I am I couldn't just leave you there. Not in good conscience anyways. Why? Still holding on little Lev?"

Levi shot to his feet. "Shut the fuck up! Holding on? I want to know why you were in that room."

Kenny's coy attitude dropped. A sadness like with deep grief stole over his weathered features. "Kuchel was everything to me."

"…Everything?"

"My sister was nuts to go underground. If she had stayed with me I could've kept her safe from those sewer rats and their filthy hands."

"As if yours are any cleaner."

"Levi," Kenny sighed, "My job is not an easy one. I do not take pleasure in killing humans."

"Why didn't you come sooner?" Levi asked, changing the subject. "Why didn't you come when I was three and starving while my nineteen year old mother sold her body for a couple coins to feed me? Or when the brothel master beat her and withheld me from seeing her when she didn't make enough money that day? Why not when I was born? To come take us away to his perfect fucking haven you say you had?" Levi is aware that his friends can listen to his every word but he doesn't care. He's been holding this questions, this agony inside for years and he needs answers right fucking now. Even if he has to beat his uncle into the stone, he will get his answers.

Kenny is silent. And this enraged Levi.

"WHY DIDN'T YOU SHOW UP WHEN SHE DIED." Levi abruptly sobbed, and he wasn't sure who was more surprised. Himself, or Kenny. Regardless he swiped away his tears and focused again.

Levi stepped forward, his fist colliding crisply with the side of Kenny's face. Kenny stumbled back a few steps

"ANSWER ME!!!" Levi screamed. The veins in his forehead and neck bulged, his face beat red from rage.

"Because I'm selfish!" Kenny cried, and Levi was appalled to see Kenny crying. "Yes I abandoned my sister, yes I saw the signs of illness and did nothing. But I thought she deserved it. It's what she deserved… for leaving me. Before you, it was us. She is what held the Ackerman family together, but when she left my entire life went to shit. I left her because I wanted her to feel the pain I did!"

Levi grappled Kenny to the ground. His fingers clenched around Kenny's throat and he shook him violently. "You… You are the reason for all my problems. Your selfish actions took away the one good thing in my life! I've been fucked over by my goddamn uncle?! GO TO HELL KENNY."

Levi tightened his hold.

Kenny didn't fight. He kept his arms by his side, and simply let it happen. His lack of response only filed Levi's fury more, tightening his hold. Kenny's lips started to go blue…

"Levi," Erwin croaked from the cell entrance. Behind him, Hange was in tears. "That's enough… let him go."

But Levi only held on tighter. And tighter, and tighter…

Erwin grabbed Levi under his arms while Hange worked on prying his fingers loose. "Levi let go! He still has much to answer for. Justice will be served, then he is yours."

It was enough to make Levi release him. Levi stopped kicking, stopped screaming and fighting so hard to kill Kenny. To rip him to shreds, to make him feel every ounce of years upon years of suffering while his rich uncle got sunlight, fresh air, and good food while he knowingly left his nephew to starve and rot beneath.

He just stopped.

Then slowly, he seemed to fold in on himself. He began to sob, the hole in his heart feeling bigger than ever. And scariest of all, his only living relative was the one who could help heal it.

Levi turned to Kenny once again, who was now sitting up and faintly gasping. "Look at me," Levi whispered.

Kenny did. His eyes flashed down to Levi's ascot.

Levi clutched his ascot. "This is the only piece of my mother I have left. I could have had more, if it hadn't been for your selfish actions. I could've been holding her instead of an empty stomach. Her instead of my friend's corpses. She would've taught me how to love even you."

Kenny sucked in a sharp breath, his heart breaking.

Levi took a deep breath to steel his nerves. "I want you to be compliant during the trial and sentencing. Do you time well, and behave. And when that's done… Then I never, ever want to see you again."
