Chapter 27
When I got back to the table with Rosie, Harvey was eyeballing her.
"Heyyy."
"Don't!" I said sternly.
"What? All I said was hey."
"Harvey this is Rosie, Rosie this is Harvey...and Harv she's new around here so don't do anything to frighten her okay? She's really shy."
"And cute."
"Stop it...don't do anything to make her feel uncomfortable either."
"Oh I see..."
Rosie took a seat next to me."
"See what?"
"You want her all to yourself."
"No...no...okay...She was alone and crying...I don't think she has any friends."
"Well its lucky she ran into you Baby Bry."
"Baby Bry?" Rosie questioned.
"Ignore him Rose, he's dumb."
"Rose? So you gave her a pet name and everything."
"Shut up." I told him and ate my sandwich. "Besides you call me Baby Bry..."
"That's cause you're still that wittle baby to me."
"Lay off."
Rosie laughed.
"Your friend says silly things too...I like him, he's funny."
"Don't get too close Rosie...he can be kinda of a jerk."
She smiled. Harvey smiled back and sipped from his milk carton. After lunch Harvey went to his next class. I was on my way to mine when Rosie stopped me. The hallway was clearing out.
"Bryan."
"Oh hey Rosie."
"I have English next...but I don't know the way to the class...can you show me?"
"Oh sure..."
We turned and bumped into Stanley, Stan Ferguson. He had been held back a few years. He was 16 and still in the 9th grade. He didn't do anything except cause trouble for everybody.
"Watch where you're walking LeMay!"
"Sorry Stan..."
Rosie hid behind me.
"You got yourself a girl, how could you do that when I couldn't?!"
"She's not my girl. And anyway the reason you can't get a girlfriend is because your so big and mean. If you changed your outlook I bet a lot of other people besides girls would like you and I-"
Suddenly he pushed me down and out of the way. Rosie gasped.
"New girl...you let other guys talk for you?! What's wrong? Too stuck up to say anything to my face!"
"I...I'm sorry I.."
"Stan, you leave her alone!"
I got to my feet.
"Just walk away Stan...I don't want to fight you."
"Why not Bry? Cause you're scared like all the others."
"I'm not scared Stan I-"
Abruptly his fist came in contact with my nose. I heard a crack as I fell backward. I didn't want to fight. I didn't want to use my powers, but I had no choice. As I hit the ground I felt blood gushing from my nose. In that moment a vision sparked into my brain. Using my mental powers I looked inside Stan's mind and predicted each of his next moves. He started to kick me while I was down. I moved away. When I got to my feet I dodged his blows so fast he began to tire.
"Hold still!"
I could see his moves as if they had already happened. He punched toward me and I ducked so that his hand hit the locker.
"Stop Stan...I've seen just about every outcome for you...and none of them are good."
"What are you talking about! Shut up and hold still!"
I used my powers of telekinesis to turn on the water fountain. It sprayed him in the face.
"Ahhh!"
He then slipped on the falling water below and hit his head on the fountain.
"Told you."
"Stanley Ferguson! Bryan LeMay!" It was Principal Don. He stomped over to us.
"This is the 3rd fight today Mr. Ferguson..."
"He started it! Principal Don!" Stan exclaimed.
"Did not! He's a liar!"
Mr. Don held his hand up to silence me.
"Given the fact that you are a model student I believe you Mr. LeMay. You are however close with that troublemaker Harvey...let's get you both to the nurse and then straight to my office...that's right!"
He grabbed Stan and I both by our arms and began to lead us away.
"And you...I don't think we met." He replied to Rosie after giving her a double take.
"Her name is Rosie Robey sir." I told him.
"Oh...thank you Mr. LeMay...Miss Robey...please get to your class."
"She doesn't know where it is...I was taking her there."
"Miss Robey...who is your teacher?"
"Mrs. Samson." Rosie replied softly.
"English...yes...down the hall three doors passed the art room...you can't miss it...if you get lost you have my permission to enter any of the classrooms in that hallway and ask for help...Come along boys."
"Boy? Hey...I'm practically a man Mr. Don." Stan told him.
"If you are Mr. Ferguson, you've got to stop picking these fights and acting like a little boy...we had a terrible incident and bullying sitution occur in our boy's locker room here several years ago and it shall not be repeated by the likes of you, do you understand?"
"Yes sir..."
"Good."
We were taken to his office and our parents were called. Naturally Stan's parents defended their son. The explained that because he had been held back the other kids pick on him specifically. I tried to counteract their claims, but I was shut down. Dad couldn't get away from working so Mom came instead. She wasn't angry with me, she was frantic with worry. I had to keep a bag of ice wrapped in a towl on my nose.
"Bryan! Sweetheart...are you alright?"
"I'm fine."
"No...you're not fine... Principal Don...he needs proper medical attention."
"Our school nurse tells us he'll need to set up an appointment with an ENT specialist to correct the fracture, she said she couldn't tell the extent of the damage due to the swelling."
"I'll set it up...but is he okay to go back to class or can I take him home I mean-?"
"If he says he is..."
"I...I think I'm alright...It's fine...I'll see you at home Mom."
"Ohh..."
She sadly kissed my cheek. As I left the office, my nose was very sore. I wouldn't of minded going home. I actually really wanted to, but I wanted to make sure Rosie was alright. I walked outside close the gym to get to the music appreciation class on the other side. I had been in that office for almost an hour. It was now 5th period.
As I was walking Harvey pulled me behind the dumpster.
"What are you doing?!" I shouted.
"Me?! Today of all days: you pick a fight with big, dumb and ugly...and and you're wondering what I'm doing?"
"Who told you?"
"Luke saw you in the office, he told Jacob, who told Blake, who told Lola, who I heard from her that Stan broke your nose, but you kicked his ass."
"So the whole school knows?"
"Duh...hold still."
He then cupped his hands on my nose."
"Whoa! Hey! What are you doing?!"
I grabbed his hands.
"Setting your nose back."
"What?! Don't you dare touch me!"
"I grab it and snap it. It's no big deal...don't be such a baby."
I sighed. I thought about it for moment, and thought; well it would relieve the pressure and that specialist guy was gonna look at it later anyway. I was going to let Harvey fix it.
