For the-original-sineater and Sicktember prompt 21: Unlikely Caregiver with Alan taking care of Kayo.

She so rarely was ill that it totally took her by surprise. And, just like Scott, when she fell ill, she fell hard.

The issue at this moment was that she was alone. Well, she wasn't actually alone.

Kayo wasn't on the island. She was visiting Alan's college, checking on his security detail the first day he attended his monthly residential week. Normally Scott would be the one here seeing Alan off, but the boys had been called out early and she'd offered to come along.

That was several hours ago. She had run through everything with Alan as she did every month. Alan had rolled his eyes at the exactly the same as he did every month.

Normally, she would spend the whole day with Alan and Scott, barring rescues of course, but today, by midday Kayo had begun to feel really rough. Within the hour she'd all but collapsed onto Alan's couch.

Chills racked Kayo's body as she lay on the couch. Suddenly there appeared a blanket around her, and small hands pulled it straight to cover her. She opened her eyes – and when did she close them? – to find Alan's blue eyes staring at her, concern radiating from them just like Scott's did. There was a small smile on his face though, and he lifted her legs and settled them on his lap and put on an old movie which she promptly fell asleep with.

The next time that she woke Alan was nowhere in sight. But the aroma of tomato soup and cheese on toast made her stomach growl. Sitting up proved to be a mistake as her head swam, and she closed her eyes and rested her head back on the couch.

When she opened her eyes it was to see Alan standing in front of her, bowl and plate in hand. Kayo sat up properly, swinging her legs down to let Alan sit beside her, and gratefully received the food.

Then she noticed a third bowl and plate. Kayo turned to Alan, but he was tucking in as a true Tracy – as if he had not eaten for days. Then she became aware of noise coming from Alan's bathroom. Kayo put it down to the cold – probably the flu if the aches and pains were anything to go by – that she hadn't even realised another person had arrived.

It was not who she anticipated.

Grandma bustled into the room, obliging Alan to move up next to her as the three crowded the couch. They ate in silence, a companionable silence, then Grandma helped Alan clear up.

Kayo wasn't even aware she'd dropped off again until Grandma was shaking her shoulder. 'Time to go, kiddo.' She groaned but got unsteadily to her feet, Alan gave his arm to her and leant on him, straightening up.

Sally flew them home, arriving a little after the boys did, and Virgil and Scott were waiting for them. Kayo was asleep again, a sure sign that she had more than just a cold. Virgil picked her up easily and carried Kayo to her room. She slept through it all.

The two boys and their Grandma stood together, watching her sleep for a couple of minutes.

'Alan did good, taking care of her,' Scott said, glancing at both his brother and his Grandma. 'He learnt from the best.' He was rewarded with two slight blushes and he chuckled as he left the two medics to watch over Kayo.
