A Chase on Earth
Los Angeles, 1995
The sun was rising and beaming down on the city. It was early morning and on the beach, some of the Skrulls, including Xarill and Talos walked out of the water and onto the sand. They looked over at the distance to see a group of people with surfboards and getting on them to go surfing. Both Talos and Xarill saw a couple of other surfers. One that was a tanned skinned woman with her long black hair tied up in a ponytail. The other is a man, who looks like her older brother.
The two Skrull siblings shifted into looking exactly like them, Xarill, turning into the woman and Talos, turning into the man.
"Track the pod. Find the boy. He clearly knows more than he knows." Talos ordered the other Skrulls, who all shifted to look like the other surfers, though one copied the same surfer as Xarill.
"This one's taken, thank you very much." She said with some spunk.
It was mid morning when Rold started making some progress on contacting Yon-Rogg as he took some parts from the Radio Shack and went to a nearby phone booth and took it apart to connect some pieces, including a part from his suit. He placed the phone on his ear and activated his communicator on his wrist.
"Come on." He muttered as the hologram of the communicator flickered on until Yon-Rogg appeared in hologram form.
"Rold? Rold? Verify. CTC-39." Yon came through.
"GRXV-1600. And I'm fine, before you ask." Rold replied, making Yon smirk.
"What happened back on Torfan?" Rold asked.
"Skrull ambush. I thought we'd lost you. Did you find Soh-Larr?" Yon-Rogg asked him.
"It wasn't him. It was Talos, he even knew of the codes." He revealed to his Kree mentor.
"That's impossible. That code was buried in his unconscious." Yon-Rogg said, finding this news shocking.
"The Skrulls hooked me up to some kind of machine, digging into my mind, they must've done the same thing to extract Soh-Larr's codes." Rold considered a certain possibility.
"Rold, where are you?" Yon now asked.
"Planet C-53, or Earth as the locals call it. It seems that the Skrulls are looking for a Dr. Lawson. But that's not all. They said that she's my mother." Rold then revealed, which caused a dark look to come over Yon's face.
"That's not possible. They're just trying to get into your head." Yon warned him. Rold shook his head slightly, trying to clear his head from his confusing and conflicting thoughts.
"Anyway, Lawson's a scientist. She might've cracked the code on light speed tech, which is why they're after her. They're probably searching for her already. I need to get to her before they do." Rold stated.
"No. You've been caught once already. Rold, hold your position until we get there. Keep your comms online so we can contact you." Yon ordered him, already making him disagree.
"What if the Skrulls get it before I do because of your orders?" Rold questioned right before a beeping was heard and an automated voice said something about a code and a long distance call and it shut off communications with Yon-Rogg.
"Dammit." Rold cursed as he heard sirens and cars coming up to the building he crashed through, but ignored them as he tinkered.
The various police cars and such stopped in front of the Blockbuster, two people in particular walked out of a black car. One a man in a suit with grey hair and glasses and the other a woman with brown curly hair tied back, looking up at the roof where the hole was.
A man wearing sunglasses and had short brown hair walked up to the security officer that was still there from last night.
"Did you call this in?" The man asked the officer, who nodded. He then pointed over to Rold and the man took off his sunglasses and looked at Rold with interest.
Rold tinkered with his wrist comms until he activated his beacon, somewhat begrudgingly.
Then he heard a knock on the phone booth so he turned to see a man with dark brown skin and very short hair, who took his sunglasses off. There was also a police officer and the man talking with the security officer walked up to them.
"Excuse me, sir. You know anything about a man blowing a hole through the roof of that Blockbuster over there? Witness says he was dressed for laser tag." The man questioned him in a way that made Rold narrow his eyes, clearly knowing that he was talking about himself.
"Just so you know, I'm not dressed for laser tag, whatever that is. And I don't appreciate your lack of respect." Rold said, starting to walk away but the man blocked him as he pulled something out from his pocket.
"Uh, I'd like to ask you some questions." The man said, showing his identity card, showing his name, Nick Fury and that he works for an organization called S.H.I.E.L.D.
"Maybe give you the 411 on the late night drop box. Could I see some identification, please?" Fury then said.
"I don't have any to show you, so I'm Rond, Kree Starforce." Rold replied, once again trying to leave but Fury blocked him.
"Rold? Starforce? How long you plan to be in town?" He asked him, getting on his nerves.
"I'll leave once I deal with the Skrulls that are infiltrating your planet." Rold answered, making Fury smirk in a way that showed he didn't really believe him.
"Skrulls?" Fury asked.
"Yeah. They're shapeshifters who can transform into any lifeform, even down to the DNA. And I can tell that you stupidly don't believe me." Rold coolly explained
"Well, how do we know you're not one of those shapeshifters?" Fury asked amusingly.
"Look at that, you finally asked a perfect question, Agent Fury." Rold said with a sarcastic tone.
"No. Congratulations to you, Starforce man. You're under arrest." Fury said, the police officer walked up to them but Rold spotted someone up on a roof, aiming a weapon at them. The person fired the weapon, clearly a Skrull and Rold pushed Fury out of the way. He then fired a blast out of his hand, causing the roof to blow apart and the Skrull ran off so he ran after them. Fury was just flabbergasted upon seeing his powers.
"Rook!" He called to his fellow agent and they ran to a car.
As Rold chased after the Skrull, he saw that it was someone is surfing attire and saw that they were running up some stairs that led to where a train was stopping so he bolted for it and ran towards the train station and leaped off a fence and a wall to quickly climb up to the station and then he jumped over something that would've slowed him down and ran up to where the train was. He accidentally bumped into an elderly woman, giving a quick 'sorry' before he saw the disguised Skrull onboard the train, which was already leaving.
"Oh no, you don't." He spat as he ran and then jumped onto the train before it left the train station.
Down on the street below, Fury and his fellow agent, Phil Coulson were driving to chase after Rold and saw that he was now on the train.
"Suspect on northbound train. In pursuit." Fury said on the radio.
Rold smashed his fist through the glass and entered the train carriage, everyone there looking at him with gawking looks, in fear slightly. He walked past everyone, looking at them, suspicious of which of them is the Skrull. He then saw an elderly man reading something that had the word 'Mallrats' on the cover. He looked at who the man was and they both exchanged smirks before Rold carried on through the train carriage onto the next one.
He looked around at first but then he stopped as he caught a glimpse at someone. He looked down and saw that same elderly woman he bumped into at the train station sitting down. Since he knew that woman left the station, it's clear that this was the Skrull. They tried to look innocent with a smile, but that didn't fool him as he punched the Skrull right in the face, knocking the glasses off. Naturally, everyone was shocked as they thought the Skrull was just a human.
The Skrull then looked up at him and made an acrobatic kick, shocking all the passengers. Rold tried to hit the Skrull but they made a flip to avoid him but then he slammed the Skrull's head onto a metal pole, causing it to bend due to his super strength. Rold then shoved them up on the ceiling and then on the ground but one of the passengers pulled him back, letting the Skrull get away.
"YOU IDIOT!" Rold roared, elbowing the passenger in the nose and chased after the Skrull, who spun on another metal pole and kicked Rold on the chest.
They growled at him before they charged at each other and Rold flipped the Skrull onto their back and punched them but then some passengers pulled him off, allowing the Skrull to run off, though dropping a purple crystal.
"Get off me, idiots!" Rold spat as he shoved them all off, shocking everyone with his strength. He then picked up the crystal and followed after the Skrull.
With Fury and Coulson, they were still chasing after Rold, having crashed into some cars earlier.
Rold walked up to the door to the next train carriage when the Skrull, mid shapeshifting, popped up and turned into a man with a red sweater and glasses. He then jumped up onto the top of the train and Rold immediately followed and got kicked upon seeing the Skrull, being thrown back and then Skrull started to run off.
Rold started to chase after him but the Skrull then touched a part of the train that shocked him, sparks flying, and threw him back slightly. This gave Rold a chance to catch up and grab him but then they fought until the Skrull kicked him off his feet and kicked him over the edge, making Rold hold onto the train, a part of which fell onto the car that Fury and Coulson were in.
"Train's heading for a tunnel up ahead." Coulson informed Fury.
"Let's greet them at the station." Fury suggested before driving elsewhere to the train station the train is heading towards.
Rold rolled back on top of the train and then he shot out blasts of energy which missed the Skrull, who jumped back into the train and hit the top of the tunnel. Rold then punched a hole and jumped into the train as well to avoid being hit off.
Fury was driving the car through traffic like a maniac when something he didn't expect happened.
"Mr. Fury, this is Agent Coulson. Uh, I'm still here at the Blockbuster. And, uh, where'd everybody go? I finished collecting evidence." Coulson's voice came through the radio, confusing Fury initially but he remembered what Rold told him. That Skrulls are shapeshifters and that meant that who was sitting next to him was a Skrull all along.
The newly revealed Skrull pulled out a handgun that Fury pushed away from him and then elbowed him in the face. The Skrull aimed at him again but Fury pulled his arm past him and the Skrull started to choke him, making Fury lose control of the car but then Fury swerved the car into a passing bus, causing a huge crash.
The train reached the train station and stopped. Once the doors opened, Rold exited and kept his eyes open for the man with the red sweater and glasses. He found him and made his way to him and turned him around to face him only for the man to look at him oddly, clearly showing that he's human.
"Dammit." Rold cursed as he had now lost the Skrull among the mass of people in the train station.
Fury woke up and felt a pain on his left eyebrow, so he touched it and winced slightly upon contacting a cut that was bleeding. He then looked over and freaked out upon seeing a now dead Skrull on the passenger seat.
He got out of the car, slightly shocked that what Rold told him was true. Knowing that people would freak out at seeing the body, he took his blazer off and placed it over the body. He then heard and saw people reacting to the crash and so he pulled his S.H.I.E.L.D. badge out as sirens can be heard.
"Official S.H.I.E.L.D. activity. Stay back." He advised the people.
Rold exited the train station and walked off to a spot that he could hide in from people.
He then put the purple crystal into a compartment of his wrist and then images popped up. The first was of Lawson and then of her name, profession and the name of the project she worked on with a symbol next to them. Then the next image was a young boy with a ginger cat and then it shortly shifted to a dark skinned and dark haired woman standing next to a sign that said 'Pancho's Bar' before the hologram fizzled out and the crystal malfunctioned.
"Bloody hell." Rold hissed in frustration, throwing the crystal away. He had to get some answers somewhere else.
He eventually came across an internet cafe and so he got on a computer and searched for results. He first looked up on Pegasus and all he got was about a mythological creature and didn't lead him anywhere so he then looked up on Pancho's Bar and that got him the results he's been looking for as he finds that it's located in Rosamond, California. But then a notification popped up saying that the computer was either disconnected or unavailable, preventing him from using it further. He then grabbed a fold out map, walked outside and opened it up to see where Rosamond is located. As he did, a man riding a motorbike stopped next to him.
"Nice scuba suit." He told Rold, who looked over to him.
"It ain't a scuba suit." He corrected him blankly, looking back at the map.
"Jeez, lighten up, buddy. Just making a joke." The rider replied before shutting his bike off, muttering 'freak' and entered the internet cafe. Rold looked at the bike and then at a clothing store and decided to look like a local on Earth and use the bike to get him to Pancho's Bar.
He grabbed a white henley shirt, brown jeans, boots and a brown leather jacket from a stand in model and rode the motorbike out of there with the helmet as well to get to his new destination.
Does anyone else think it's nice that Stan Lee's cameo in the film was himself reciting his lines in the Mallrats script? Rest in peace, Stan, you are a true legend.
