Chapter 17
Sunday morning Rachel was up super early. After eating a quick breakfast she made sure all of her chores were done and she was out of the house quickly heading to Santana's. She no sooner pulled up her drive when Santana was out the house rushing toward her.
Handing her a helmet she waved at Santana's family who had followed her out and smiled back at her. "Good morning San. You ready to hit the road?"
Santana smile swinging on the back of the bike as she fastened the helmet, "Absolutely. That short ride to school and back just wasn't enough."
Rachel smiled as Santana molded into her wrapping her arms around her. "Well I promise you will get a longer more enjoyable ride today. I thought we'd head out to the country roads, I want to show you a cool place I found but it's a bit out there."
"I don't care where we go. I just want to ride with you." Turning she waved to Maribel and Mateo in the doorway then held on tight. "I'm ready Rae."
Maribel moved onto the porch. "Rachel you better take care of my baby and be careful on that thing. Have her home and in one piece by dinner and I expect you to stay and eat with us."
"Yes ma'am, I wouldn't dream of doing anything that would ever hurt her. She means too much to me. I'll have her home on time and safe, I promise. Dinner also sounds lovely. We'll be back in time." Rachel smiled charmingly and Maribel just nodded satisfied with that answer.
Santana blushed prettily and buried her face in Rachel's back causing her to chuckle. "Hold on tight," she husked out then revved the engine and they were off.
They made their way through town past the Lima Bean and the little gas station on the outskirts. Santana laughed as they crossed the town line and Rachel hit the gas and tore down the road. She settled with her head resting on Rachel's shoulder just enjoying the ride as the scenery flew by. She couldn't remember every feeling so free like she did at the moment on the back of this bike with Rachel in her arms.
Rachel resisted the urge to close her eyes in contentment as she leaned back into the warmth surrounding her, but just barely. The feel of Santana wrapped around her resting her head on her shoulder was heavenly. She loved to ride and always cherished the exhilarating feeling of the wind on her face and how freeing it always was. Next to singing this was probably her next favorite thing to do but nothing compared to riding like this with Santana.
Both girls settled fully into each other as they road along the back country roads. The scenery varied between wooded areas and farmland. Sometimes all you could see was corn for miles but it was so soothing. It was one of the few things that Rachel loved about Ohio. The gentle sway of a cornfield was mesmerizing.
A few hours later Rachel slowed turning off onto a dirt road and followed it around through the trees. Santana sat back slightly looking around. "Where are we?"
Rachel smiled as she moved into a clearing. "It's one of my favorite places in all of Ohio."
She was about to ask where here was but she heard water right before she saw it then was speechless. There in front of them was a gorgeous body of water with a beautiful green shoreline that was covered with flowers and a breathtaking waterfall, "Oh Rae. This place is… I have no words."
Rachel pulled to a stop and cut the engine as she put down the kickstand, "I know. I love it here. I was out driving around wishing I had my bike spring sophomore year when I threw a flat and my spare was toast too. I wasn't getting service on my phone and I saw the dirt road and thought it may be a driveway to a house. As you saw there really isn't much out here."
Santana swung off and move away to turn around in circles taking it all in. Rachel just watched her as she finished her story. "When I got down here I realized it wasn't a home here it was this. It was so gorgeous I just couldn't bear to leave right away to try and find help. I stayed for a while before going back to the road and walking until I got service. After that I've come out here anytime I just want to get away from it all. After I was able to bring my bike home from Cali I ride it out here."
"This place is amazing. God I just want to jump it but it's probably freezing." She stood on the bank looking into the water longingly.
Rachel had finally gotten off the bike and came up beside her. "You can jump in if you want to. I think it's a spring or something. The water is always warm. I come swimming here all year round just about."
Santana smiled and started stripping. Rachel's eyes widened, "Wh...what are you doing?"
Pulling off her pants leaving her in only her bra and panties she smirked wickedly at the tremor in Rachel's voice, "I'm going for a swim. Why don't you join me?" and with that she dove in to the water.
Staring dumbfounded at the water she watched as Santana resurfaced shaking her hair out and laughing, "sweet Jesus." it only took her a moment more to start stripping down to her undies and diving in after her.
As she surfaced Santana splashed her and laughed. "This is awesome. I can't believe you just happened upon it one day. Does it belong to anyone? I mean it must sit on someone's land and we're like trespassing or something."
Rachel lay back to float looking up to the sky, "It belongs to a gentleman named Harvey Wallace. He found me here last fall. I apologized for trespassing and he told me as long as I didn't dirty the place up leaving trash around or bring tons of people out here to party or anything that I was welcome to come and swim."
Momentarily distracted my Rachel's body now on display on top of the water it took her a moment to reply. "That's actually really cool of him." Deciding the best course of action was to just float beside her as not to stare she leaned back herself.
"Yea, he's a pretty great guy. I met his family here one time when I came out. He has a wife and three kids that are a bit younger than us. I give his daughter voice lessons and one of his son's guitar lessons. All the other one cares about is his animal, he taught me to ride a horse and the last time I was there I gave him a ride on my motorcycle. They have an awesome farm a little ways from here. A lot of the corn we passed getting here belongs to them."
Santana stopped floating and stood beside her "You really amaze me sometimes. You've had this secret life hidden from all of us for so long. I'm sorry you ever felt like you had to keep yourself hidden. You are just this amazingly talented and sweet person that we have all taken for granted and bullied. Thank you for letting me in. You have no idea what that means to me Rae."
Rachel righted herself and stood face to face with Santana. "I really wish you'd stop apologizing to me all the time. I've forgiven the past and I'm glad that you seem to have forgiven me for keeping so much of myself a secret from all of you. Especially in Glee, it was wrong of me to spout off about family and being there for and being honest with each other. I mean I understand why everyone else has been so angry with me. I'm not really a good person. All I have ever been is my talent. That's all I've let myself be. I let that school dictate who I was for so long."
Taking her hands Santana pulled her closer. "No, you have always been more than your talent. Don't get me wrong, you are the most amazing singer and musician and I know that no matter what form of musical career you choose you will excel at it. But Rae, you are so much more. You kept a lot of you buried but you have always been kind and forgiving. You have always been a good person at heart. All you really kept hidden was some of the things you like and the kind of person you want to love."
She smirked and released her hands her face turning from serious to playful. "What I am upset with you about is hiding your volleyball skills for so long and not letting me benefit on the court from those. That was super mean of you Rae."
Rachel laughed giddily. "Oh San you know you didn't need me on the court. You have dominated the floor for years. You're just really upset that I showed what I can do and now come Thursday night I will be showing you up as I fly through the air like Supergirl leaving you and Quinn in my jet stream."
"Oh bitch you didn't," Santana yelled as she launched herself at Rachel and the dunking war commenced.
They splashed and threw each other around in the water laughing like loons. Santana dunked Rachel once more but she didn't come right back up. Santana looked around and shrieked as she was lifted into the air and flopped backwards. Rachel came out of the water first laughing and smirked as Santana came up sputtering.
"I take it back. You are evil Rachel." Santana whipped her hair back out of her face smirking at her friend.
Rachel laughed harder shaking her head. "You started it. It's not my fault you're a sore loser."
Santana shook her head trying not to smile. "Whatever bitch, let's get out so we have time to dry before heading back. I'm getting kind of hungry anyway."
They moved to the shore and hoisted themselves out of the water. Rachel moved to her bike as Santana held her shirt in front of herself shivering, "I think I should have thought this through. It's fucking freezing."
Shivering herself Rachel pulled a blanket out of her saddle bag and used it to dry herself off walking over to Santana. "Here, I'll share my blanket. It should get enough water off so we can get our clothes back on."
Santana pounced and wrapped herself up with Rachel in the blanket. "Oh thank Jesus."
Rachel laughed rubbing her arms to help get heat into them. "Yea that was probably not the smartest thing we've ever done." She unwrapped herself leaving the blanket for Santana and quickly threw her clothes back on leaving her boots off for the moment and moved back to her bike.
After drying as best she could Santana pulled her own clothes on as fast as she could. "Why did you have that blanket in your bag anyway? You usually just carry the helmets in there."
Opening the storage box on the back of the bike she pulled out a small cooler bag. "Well I knew it would take a while to get out here so I packed a little picnic lunch and brought the blanket to sit on but now I think we can just sit up on the big rock over there since the blanket's all wet now."
Santana looked over stunned. "You brought us a picnic?"
Rachel blushed slightly and nodded. "Well yea, I didn't want us to starve or have to leave before we were ready."
Walking over she pulled Rachel into a hug. "Thank you, I'm not ready to leave just yet and food would be great. You're the best."
She didn't say anything just held on for a few moments more then grabbed Santana's hand and the bag leading her to the rock. Once they climbed up and were settled Rachel divided up the contents of the bag and they ate talking about a little of everything. When they were done they just lay back on the rock letting the sun warm them laying silent for a bit just enjoying the day.
Santana looked out over the waterfall and sighed in contentment, "I bet Royal loved seeing this too when you brought him here."
Rachel shook her head looking over to her. "No, I've never brought him out here. I've never brought anyone out here."
Santana swung her head around to look at her, "Why not, why now, why me?"
She just smiled softly. "I've never found anyone I wanted to share it with until you. You're different. I needed to share this with you."
Santana's heart skipped seeing the look in Rachel's eyes and rolled toward her, "But why me? I was admittedly about the meanest person in the world to you for so long, why now Rae?"
Smiling shyly she just kept staring into her eyes. "Because it's you I wanted to share it with. It's always been you and now that you've finally given me the opportunity to see the real you, past all the bullshit and I've let you see me, it just seemed right. I needed to bring you here, to my special place, because you are so special to me."
Rachel rolled to face her, taking her hands and looked into her tearful eyes. "I can't explain it any other way than I just needed you to be a part of my own little paradise."
Santana looked to their joined hands then back up into Rachel's eyes. "What is this Rae?"
She didn't have to ask what she was talking about, she knew. "It's whatever you want it to be San."
Shaking her head she sighed. "It's not just about me. What do you want?"
Rachel moved up on her elbow just slightly leaning over Santana as she rolled to her back with the movement. "I want whatever makes you happiest. If that's to forever be my best friend then that's what we'll do. If it's to be more, then I want that too. I just want to make sure that whatever it is that you want, I get to be a part of your life in whatever way you deem me worthy."
Santana's breath caught at her word. "Jesus Rachel, you make it hard for a girl to breathe."
Shifting to move she hung her head. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to crowd you I ju…"
Grabbing her Santana stopped her from moving away. "No, that's not what I meant sweetie." Cupping her face she looked into her eyes, "I meant you take my breath away with the things you say to me. I don't want to just be your friend. I want more with you. You take my breath away Rachel." She pulled her down and they met in a soft melding of lips.
It was chaste and only lasted a moment. Rachel leaned back up to look in her eyes for a moment then her lips were back on Santana's moving slowly, reverently. She shifted as Santana pulled her closer and deepened the kiss running her tongue lightly over her bottom lip begging entrance that was instantly granted. They moaned into each other at the first taste and the kiss turned from exploratory to passionate in an instant.
Santana pulled her as close as she could shifting so that their legs were intertwined and she could run her hands up and down her back loving the feel of her as Rachel shifted down kissing her neck. "Rachel…" She breathed and ran her hands down further cupping the ass that mesmerized her so pulling her impossibly closer.
Rachel reared back moaning obscenely. "Jesus baby..."
Crashing back together they kissed each other breathless until they had no choice but to break away to let air into their abused lungs. They rested their heads together just looking into each other eyes trying to catch their breaths.
Pecking her nose Rachel smiled tickling her softly. "I think that I'm going to deem this rock the best rock in the world."
Santana chuckled slapping her side playfully. "You better watch it or I'll leave you alone to your rock." They laughed and she kissed Rachel chin lovingly, "although, I'm kind of fond of it myself."
Rachel pulled her into a shorter but still passionate kiss then pulled back just enough to breathe. "As much as I would love to just stay here with you forever I think that we should start heading back. Your mom wanted us back for dinner and if we don't leave now we'll be late and she will never let me take you anywhere with me again."
"Whatever Rae, she loves you but we better not test that." She pulled her down for once last kiss then they climbed off the rock and cleaned up their lunch mess.
Once it was all cleaned up and packed back on the motorcycle Rachel climbed on but Santana stood beside her apprehensively. Rachel grabbed her hand and pulled her closer. "Hey, what's wrong sweetie?"
Santana sighed and leaned into her. "It's just tomorrow at school… I'm just not…"
Rachel lifted her chin up to look in her eyes. "Take a breath and just say what you need to say. It's just me, you can tell me anything."
With a deep breath she wrapped her arms around Rachel and burrowed into her neck. "I don't want you to think that I'm ashamed of your or anything like that but I'm just not ready to come out at school or anywhere else right now. I haven't even told my Mami that I'm gay or my Abuela. I just don't want to upset you or…"
Rachel pushed her back just enough to look in her eyes. "I'm not asking you to come out baby. I'm not totally ready myself and even if I was that is a choice you have to make when it's right for you." She pulled her back in hugging her close. "We're just getting started. We haven't even really finished our conversation about what we wanted from each other. We don't have to rush into anything. Let's just be us and we'll talk and figure the all of the rest out as we go. Coming out can wait until we are both ready and when your family knows everything you want them to know. As long I know we are on the same page and I can kiss you whenever we get the chance, I'm good with taking it slow."
Santana chuckled and slapped her stomach, "Only if you're lucky Rae. I'm not that easy."
Throwing her head back she laughed, "Oh I know I'm lucky if I get to kiss you. I think it makes me an extremely luck bitch that you wanted me to kiss you in the first place."
They both laughed some more then Santana kissed her neck softly. "Thank you sweetie, I just need time to talk to Mami and stuff."
"I know. Its fine," pulling her back up she kissed her lips lovingly. "Come on let's head back to civilization so your mom doesn't scalp me for bringing you home late."
With one last peck she climbed on the back and settled against Rachel as she turned them back toward home.
A/N: There is another one. Things start to get a little more interesting when they get back to school and Finn really starts to show his true colors. I hope to update again soon.
