When Rebecca arrived into her office she saw there was a piece of paper on her desk waiting and she smiled seeing it was in Mac's writing, but Stella had obviously delivered it since she had been up on the roof and also knew what she had told Mac about. "Don't worry. You get your chance to read that in private. Everyone knows you have to write a report up. If we get anymore evidence that is clearly Terrence Prescott's, you'll get to work with it." She nodded at Stella as she glanced up. "Nervous?"
"Little. What was it you and Mac called me when I first started? Free spirit with an untamable flame?" Stella chuckled at that and it made Rebecca chuckle again. "Meaning I don't do things the conventional way or ways that are typically approved," she responded.
"Yet me and Mac loved you like our own regardless," Stella responded walking over and hugging her. "Finish up that report and go back to your apartment. Mac told me we don't get you until tomorrow," she advised and Rebecca nodded before getting back to her entire report. As she finished, she placed it in a manila folder before seeing Mac walk in to look at her and she chuckled at him before he took the folder and handed her the rule sheet again. She had enough time to realize it was a rule sheet.
"I just thought I'd give you the warnings of punishments that come for some of them. Just so you can focus on those rules alone without thinking about what happens when you break the rules. For the more major rules which have a star drawn beside them, it will result in a spanking. For some rules it could be time in a corner or your room, grounding or loss of privilege's. Groundings will mean no going to the apartment at all. You'll be coming back with me and Stella and you can't take any overtime, no laptop, no phone no nothing. Just books and work," he advised and she nodded. "With me so far?"
"Yeah. Just give me a night to kind of absorb this," she began before yawning and Mac chuckled. "I'll head out soon. Any new evidence that I can touch?" Mac shook his head and she sighed annoyed. "Fine. I'm heading back to the apartment," she warned.
Mac nodded and as the elevator closed with Rebecca in it, he smiled as Stella walked over. "She'll be fine Mac. Once she gets used to it," she promised. Mac knew that much was accurate but he also knew that Rebecca had a very nasty habit and he was worried she'd cave in with the new rules settling in.
Meanwhile, Rebecca had once again managed to get through her building without the gossips talking and she shut and locked the door within seconds. Looking through her fridge she groaned in frustration as she had no food left. They had all eaten a lot the night prior and Aiden had taken some home as well. "Delivery for the silly sister who forgot she was out of food," Flack called out and she chuckled walking to the door and opening it to see Flack and Danny walking in. "Thought you might enjoy a night of watching the game. Brought Sullivan's bar food. Didn't think you'd want to go out," he offered.
"I really appreciate it Don. I'll pay you back," she promised. He looked at her and chuckled before watching as she put her kit away. "I'll be back in a few. You guys get set up," she informed before going to her room and into her bathroom. When she looked in the mirror she covered her face before slipping her hand under the mirror to reveal a razor blade and she looked at her arm where she knew there were scars and held her breath before carving out 3 lines and watched the blood seep. "This is for the blood shed on our family," she whispered before she used soap and water to clean the cuts and covered them with gauze and her pajama top before slipping into pajama shorts.
"Hey you took a while. Get all girly in your time with Mac?" Danny had to throw something in and laughed as she hit him with a pillow. "Beer or coolers?" She revealed a cooler and he chuckled at that before handing her a plate. "So he told us. You're going back?"
"They said I looked healthier," she admitted and Danny nodded at that as he noted the changes that had already occurred over a week. "Don't tell me you actually agree with them. I mean it's weird admitting," she began waving her hand.
"That they provided a stability and predictability for you?" Don looked at her with a smirk and she glared at him. "Come on Rebecca. Admit it. You felt safe and secure. Something I know you haven't ever felt in the past," he warned her.
"I felt it but only with myself. People? They were liabilities to me," she admitted. Don looked at her with a smirk and she sighed. "Look Flack, I don't often admit it. It's weird to me. To me? That's admitting that I'm weaker than ever," she admitted.
"But Mac doesn't see it that way. Neither do we. We see you as stronger than ever. You didn't tell that shrink everything but what you did? Jo was a member of the FBI so she learned profiling. You bury your pain by caring for others," Danny reminded.
"Why wouldn't I? Nobody cares about what happens to me," she responded before covering her mouth and looking at the boys. "That's not what I meant. Like I know you guys do but that wasn't where I was going with it."
"Well now that we know how you truly feel," Flack began before he managed to wedge her into a hug. "Want to talk about that?"
"Nope. Did my mandatory blab with the psychobabblist in the department. I'm done talking," she answered before she heard the door. "Oh perfect. I placed a delivery order for your favorites," she dismissed walking away and Danny looked at Don who waited a minute.
"She's going to be fine once she gets her time with Mac," Don assured looking at Danny. "She thinks we can't see a difference but we can. Her weight was heavier than this but even our recommended doc says that she seems to have approached a weight that's more appropriate. She wasn't fat but she has more muscle now because Mac was in control of what she ate," he continued before seeing her return. "So what's got you the most nervous?"
"The whole rules thing again," she answered. She sat with Flack and looked at him. "You know me. I don't do the whole listening to rules. I obey Mac and the lab rules on hours. Not used to the off hours even though it took almost a whole year of no CSI to get this guy," she responded before they watched the game and actually all fell asleep on her couch. Mac on the request of Lindsay went to go find Danny and when he saw they were all asleep, he had to chuckle and take a picture. Rebecca had nudged into Don's chest while Danny held her legs still.
"Oh Rebecca, you give us an endless amount of moments that you don't want us seeing," he mused before he shook her shoulder and Danny's. As they both opened their eyes, Rebecca glared at the phone Mac held and he revealed it to be her's. "Relax. Wasn't sending a picture to anyone. Giving you the choice for once. Anyways, Danny Lindsay was looking for you. As for you? You have a shift in 2 hours and it's a swing shift. So it's a long haul. Finished the report?" She glared at him and he chuckled. "Then we have more evidence that didn't belong to your brother for you to go through," he promised.
"Heck yes," she responded lunging up and Don groaned in pain. "Sorry Flack," she apologized grabbing her badge and service weapon before going into her room and changing, leaving the 3 men in the same room alone to wonder what happened.
"I'm guessing she gets to go into one of the sections of the lab to process?" Mac nodded and Flack chuckled. "You should have seen her face Mac. She was terrified when she realized who's wallet she was working with," Flack warned.
"I wouldn't blame her. She doesn't sacrifice integrity. So when she learned she basically did that, it terrified her." As Mac saw her walk out in her black dress pants and a purple blouse she grabbed her black blazer and hooked her badge to her bottoms and then walked out where Hawkes was waiting. "Hawkes what's new for the case?"
"Sid found something in the real Terrence's body and we all agreed you should process it. It's waiting for you in the AV Lab. It was all folded up so we want to maintain it's original shape so we're using AV to unfold it," he explained.
"Done," she responded as they arrived and everyone watched as she didn't even stop at the coffee machine to get a cup. Mac followed her into the AV lab and saw her working with the table that had a computer built in. She had the scans of the folded item done and began working with digitally unfolding them. Mac watched as it was a 5 dollar bill but it didn't make sense. "Hey," she began looking at the back side with no face. "This should say 'In God we Trust' but it doesn't. It's got Latin. I know the one dollar bill has it. But I am certain a 5 doesn't," she responded and Mac pulled out a 5 from his wallet and showed her that she was right.
"Do you speak enough Latin by the end of all the courses you took?"
"Et non secundum accidens," she read before putting her finger up. "Accidens is Latin for accident. Secundum I've never seen," she admitted.
"I'll give you the literal translation. 'There they were not by accident'. Meaning loosely it says 'They were not there by accident'. Who could they be referring to? Terrence and Talon?"
"Well Talon would never be anywhere by accident so that does fit," she admitted. She then looked at the bill images and copied them to let Mac look too. "I don't see why that would be in his body though if it was about them. Why wasn't that on the actual scene? So I don't think it's about them," she continued.
"It's not. Mac, we've already contacted IAB, Chief Sinclair and anyone who needs to know. Because whether it's protocol or not? Rebecca's in the middle of it, even if she doesn't want to be," Hawkes warned as he sat beside her.
"What do we got?"
"You got the bill? We got this," Danny informed revealing a camera before slipping a memory stick into the table. These were on it," he informed and everyone watched the photos appear. "Recognize them?"
"They're pictures from when I was growing up as a foster child, biological child and street rat," she informed looking at all of them. "I didn't take these pictures and Talon wasn't fond of them. Jeremy got my head on straight. So who has these pictures?"
"We're not sure but someone's been following you. For years. Because this was the very first photo on it," Danny revealed pulling it out to reveal Mac holding her back from the towers where she was running and she covered her mouth.
"Someone saw you at the site of 9/11. They knew you'd be pegged as an easy target for them. What they never counted on was the NYPD," Mac mused as he grabbed a memory stick as well. "Nobody was ever going to show you, but with this case encasing your biological family? I think you should be aware," he informed. As the photos appeared on a separate side, she covered her mouth. "We had constant on the clock surveillance for you. We'd see to it you got home safely or when you were out that someone made note of your location. Because I had a respect for your father before I knew what he was like," Mac explained.
"Then I have an idea. It's a long shot, but let's take a glance through a couple photos where NYPD are present on the camera and compare them to your's. See if we can't catch the camera man," she mused. Mac smirked and began looking with her as everyone else went to go get more evidence. Mac finally found the one that Rebecca had found and they smirked. "Got him," she mused.
"Maybe," Mac reminded before isolating the two photos and grabbing the face of the camera man. "I'll give this to Adam and progress it to now. When was this picture as I don't have a date on mine," he informed.
"April 13 2007," she responded looking at the picture. "I didn't even need the date. I remember that day," she chuckled as she looked at the image. Mac looked at her shocked and she chuckled. "The outfit also is a giveaway. In honour of my deceased uncle, I'd wear that sundress," she chuckled.
As they kept looking for evidence, Rebecca was in her office looking through old files. "Knock knock," Stella greeted with Mac and she chuckled at them and waved them in as she was looking. "What are you looking for in here?"
"I'm checking old records. Seeing if my mom has a record. You know how hard it is thanks to my name matching up to her's?" Mac chuckled at that and then watched as the record came up. "I'm seeing if there was a link we could make via her. I mean dad's also a possibility," she began before she paused and stood up. "I know it's my brother's, but I need that wallet," she warned.
"Why?"
"I think we're staring something in the face," she began.
