ROLL TITLES

1 INT. ZACH'S KITCHEN - DAY
The small beige kitchen is incredibly busy - lots of pots and pans are cooking on the stove, timers are ringing in a shrill tone and Zach is rushing about, facetiming his wife which is resting against the fridge, where she can easily see the chaos.

ZACH
Don't worry, I've got it all under control!

Shona throws him a bemused look.

SHONA
Definitely looks like you do.

ZACH
You know, snide comments like that are totally helping, so keep 'em coming.

SHONA
Where's Deisha, isn't she helping?

ZACH
At school, duh.

SHONA
It's 3:30. Haven't you picked her up yet?

ZACH
What? Half three… Okay, so I'm way behind.

Shona faceplants, mumbling an "oh my god".

ZACH
Deisha, are you home?!

DEISHA (oc)
Yeah!

ZACH
Look, she's here, she's fine. No idea how she got here, but she is. Now what did you want her for?

SHONA
To help you! You're so stressed, man!

ZACH
Because I'm two hours behind schedule!

SHONA
Get Deisha to help you!

ZACH
Deisha, need your help please!

DEISHA (oc)
Just a second!

SHONA
The shop closes in two hours. I will be back for final preparations, just make sure that you've got the taxi booked to take us to my mum's.

ZACH
You haven't even told me what she's hosting a party for!

SHONA
It's her retirement do. Thirty years she's been at that job!

ZACH
Okay, okay, I get it. It's cool, everything's running smoothly!

SHONA
I'll see you later. Don't burn the chicken!

Shona disappears from the video call and Deisha saunters in, seeing Zach hopelessly bouncing from one counter to the next.

DEISHA
You wanted me?

ZACH
Mash those potatoes please.

She sighs, sitting at the table and beginning to mash the potatoes.

ZACH
How'd you get home?

DEISHA
Sarah's mum gave me a lift. Why is all the cooking stuff up to us?

ZACH
Would you really want your night guard uncle working at a hot oven one hour after waking up?

DEISHA
...Fair point.

Zach's phone rings. He goes to pick it up, but realises he's still stirring gravy, and looks over to Deisha. Rolling her eyes, she reaches over for the phone and answers it.

DEISHA
Zach's phone, who dis?

ZACH
Don't say "who dis" on the phone!

She listens to a woman speaking in a quiet and almost sympathetic register. She raises an eyebrow, then holds it towards Zach.

DEISHA
It's for you.

ZACH
Obviously it's for me, it's my phone. Who is it?

DEISHA
...Hospital.

[Track 1: A Place By The Sea] Zach nervously sets the gravy pot down, and Deisha instinctively takes over, whilst Zach presses the mobile device to his ear.

ZACH
Hello? ...Yes, it is… Adam Ellis? He's my brother, yes.

An expression of horror falls upon Zach, freezing with disbelief as he listens to the doctor over the phone.

2 EXT. GRAVEYARD - DAY
Zach, Shona and Deisha are all dressed in formal black suits and dresses, the sun peeking through the clouds. They are surrounded by quite a few other members of their community, some of them recognisable as Zach's friends. They're all quite heartbroken, a few sobbing, a few trying to hold back screams of anguish in front of the priest. They all read the inscription on the gravestone they are stood at, obviously fresh and with barely any grass stains yet.

In Loving Memory of: Adam Michael Ellis. Born 12th June 1985 - 25th October 2019. A beautiful soul that's gone, but never forgotten.

DEISHA
It's weird. In movies and stuff, funerals are all stormy weather and grey clouds. It's just a sunny day. Doesn't feel right.

SHONA
It's probably the last bit of sunlight we'll get for the year. You should be enjoying it with your mates, not here. I'm sorry. How are you feeling?

DEISHA
I'm fine.

SHONA
Are you sure?

DEISHA
I said I'm fine, Mum.

Whilst Deisha turns, wiping a tear away, Zach stands emotionless and still, remaining silent as he has done for many days now - save for his eulogy a couple of hours before. An older woman, with big hair and bears a lot of resemblance to Zach, steps forward and wraps his arm around him.

ASHLEY
Hiya, sweetie. You did a really good job earlier.

ZACH
Speaking about our brother's death? I sure hope I did.

ASHLEY
No need to be like that.

Zach glares at her, his eyes starting to redden.

ZACH
A car crash? Really? His whole life, gone, because one person couldn't stop looking at their phone for two seconds. His dreams, his loves, his work, everything. Destroyed in a moment.

ASHLEY
I know.

ZACH
How is that fair?

ASHLEY
It's not.

ZACH
Then how is this meant to be okay?

ASHLEY
It's alright to feel like this, let it all out.

ZACH
What? No. Adam can't let it out, can he? He's gone. He can't ever tell us about his emotions again.

ASHLEY
Which is why we've got to do it for him. In honour of him, all the things he would've done.

Zach scoffs and wanders away.

ASHLEY
Zach- Zach!

She sighs, looking back down at the grave.

ASHLEY
I'm sorry.

She rests her hand on it. [Track 1 ends]

FADE TO:

3 EXT. MARSH COURT - DAY
ONE YEAR LATER…
[Track 2: Emer's Theme] The TARDIS materialises into existence upon the lawn outside the block of flats, in the same position it was beforehand - but this time, it's late morning, almost noon. The Doctor pokes her head out and grins, before rushing out to embrace the autumnal air with her dark navy blue wool jumper, fashioning yet another rainbow, but this time a little faded.

DOCTOR
Right on schedule! You know, I think I'm getting better at piloting her.

Zach walks out, once again wearing his own clothes.

ZACH
I'd expect nothing less - how long have you had the TARDIS?

DOCTOR
I dunno, sort of lost count of the years - I'd guess 2000?

ZACH
Of course. Why wouldn't you be 2000?

He looks around.

ZACH
Might not be exactly right - it was the evening when we left?

DOCTOR
If my readings are correct, it's the 25th October 2020 at… 10:31am. Only 24 hours out. Sorry.

ZACH
I'll just say I stayed at Sav's, then. 25th October, you say?

DOCTOR
Yep.

He looks wistful for a moment, as if reminiscing on past days, then returns to the moment.

ZACH
So what now? This it?

DOCTOR
Doesn't have to be if you don't want to.

ZACH
I mean, I don't, but… Like I said that night, I've got things to do.

DOCTOR
Fair enough. I might stay in London for a bit, but I'll let you know when I'm leaving?

ZACH
Sure. Thanks, Doctor. For everything.

DOCTOR
My pleasure.

ZACH
You remember where I live?

DOCTOR
Yep. Just up there.

ZACH
Then I guess I'll see you around.

DOCTOR
It was fun while it lasted.

She smiles softly, then wanders away down the road. He looks after her, hesitant to call out, but eventually turns around, quietly saying these words to himself.

ZACH
See you, Doc. You… you… you did more good for me than anyone has in a long while.

Smiling, he stuffs his hands into his coat and heading towards his flat. He opens the door and bounds up the stairs. [Track 2 ends]

4 EXT. WALKWAY - DAY
[Track 3: MI6 0:00 – 0:47] As he strolls along, the Asian man, once again, pops up out of nowhere and startles Zach.

ZACH
God!

MAN
The Lord doesn't like it when people use his name in vain.

ZACH
And I don't like it when people jumpscare me!

MAN
Sorry. Do you have a minute to talk about our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ?

ZACH
I have to ask - does this work for you?

MAN
Excuse me?

ZACH
Constantly bombarding people until they're annoyed into taking one so you'll leave them the hell alone?

MAN
Most of the time. Would you please just take a flyer?

ZACH
Okay, fine. Fine. I'll take your goddamn flyer.

MAN
Thank you. Just sign here, please.

He offers a clipboard, to which Zach scribbles his name down and snatches a flyer.

ZACH
There. Now don't bother me or my family with your stupid girl scout cookie competition again. Please.

MAN
Thank you for your contribution. You don't know the impact it will have on the Universe.

Zach brushes past him and stops outside his door. However, after he takes a moment to comprehend what the man just said, he spins back round - and he's disappeared already.

ZACH
What…?

He disregards it and unlocks the door to his flat. [Track 3 ends] With a heavy breath, he walks in.

5 INT. ZACH'S HALLWAY – MORNING
[Track 4: Emer-Gency Exit 0:00 – 1:00] Immediately, he is hit with a wave of nostalgia. He admires the outdated, 90s wallpaper, with the rays of sunshine reflecting against it through the small window next to the front door, creating pretty patterns, the radiator pressed up against it which makes the room feel a lot narrower, drying off a few towels. He dawdles inside towards the living room.

6 INT. ZACH'S LIVING ROOM – MORNING
He glances in to see Shona watching TV, lounging against the sofa.

SHONA
Oh, hey. Where'd you get to yesterday?

ZACH
Uh, just stayed at Sav's for a couple of days.

SHONA
You get sloshed?

ZACH
Nah, nah. Just had to help him out with something

He goes into give her a long, lingering kiss. Deisha walks in, then rolls her eyes, scowling a little upon seeing her parents' embrace.

DEISHA
Do I need to see that first thing in the morning?

Zach notices her, then wraps his arms around her, squeezing his daughter tightly.

DEISHA
Ow. Ow, ow, ow- Dad. Dad!

ZACH
Not letting you go. Ever.

Deisha wriggles out of Zach's grip, then starts to text, backing away.

SHONA
Why are you so touchy feely today?

ZACH
I dunno. By the way, it is the 25th, right?

SHONA
Mhm. Oh, right.

ZACH
Yeah. Do you think Ashley's coming round?

They hear a ringing doorbell.

SHONA
I'd say there's an even chance.

He smiles a little, backtracking just like Deisha but now heading towards the front door rather than her bedroom. Shona holds up three fingers, two fingers, one finger-

ASHLEY
HEY THERE, sweetie!

SHONA
Right on cue.

She rests her hands on her legs as she pushes herself off the chair, walking into the hallway to greet her guest. [Track 4 ends]

7 EXT. MARE STREET – DAY
[Track 5: Turbo] The Doctor strolls leisurely along the pavement through the busy high street filled to the brim with pedestrians going about their daily business – on their phones, spouting random adverts, arguing, shopping – drowned out by the noise of the iconic red London buses and cars. One car in particular attracts the Doctor's attention, its exhaust pipe billowing a vast amount of smoke into the air. A van drives up beside it, blaring a siren, forcing it to pull over. A few laddish men, wearing some very clean, smart boiler suits climb out, surrounding the car. The Doctor crosses her arms, staring at the spectacle.

LUCAS
Good afternoon, ma'am. If you haven't noticed, your car seems to be rather environmentally problematic. Synthetic Corp want to rectify that.

He presents a fancy business card, grinning like an idiot – the most prominent feature of course, is the logo: SYNTHETIC CORPORATION, with the first word in a bold green and the S taking overshadowing the others due to its size, and the other subsidising beneath it, in an icy blue up against a white background. There are also a few other bits and pieces on the card, including references and the man's name: Lucas Hay. The woman takes it, as the other men begin fitting strange, plastic products onto the inside of the exhaust pipe. As if like magic, the devices placed inside start to grow, shifting further into the pipe and cleaning the inside. A few seconds later, the exhaust is clear.

LUCAS
Thank you very much. As per government guidelines, here's your ticket for contributing to air contamination. Any questions you may have can be directed to the number at the bottom. Have a nice day.

Swiftly, the men return to their van and speed off. An older gentleman stands beside the Doctor, hands in pockets, with a rather hippie beard and 70s glasses. He speaks with a rough American accent.

STAN
Another one. Y'know, that's the second time today. Vans just lining up, shoving god knows what into OUR stuff without consent, and Government give it the all clear. Shambles!

Shaking his head, he wanders off. The Doctor grabs his shoulder.

DOCTOR
Who does that van belong to?

STAN
Synthetics, duh.

DOCTOR
Synthetics?

STAN
Synthetic Corporation. Big lot, advocating environmentally friendly London. They might've the Government's backing, but they ain't got mine, that's for sure. What they up to, it's wrong, that's what I say! Look, there's their HQ, just on the other side of the river!

Just peeking above a few high-rise buildings is a large factory, imposing, layered with fresh tiling and a sleek, modern façade. Stan, once again, resumes his stroll down the street, leaving the Doctor to focus solely on the building. [Track 5 ends]

8 INT. EDEN'S OFFICE – DAY
[Track 6: Artron Energy] Clamours and aggressive yells disturb the peace of the office, as a fairly handsome man stares at them from the spotless window. He's dressed rather boldly, in a navy suit with a pink buttoned shirt. However, for him it's complementary to his rugged luscious strands of brown hair swept back like a movie star. If people didn't know who he was, they'd mistake him for a university student with how smooth and pretty his skin complexion was. After spending a few minutes admiring the audacity of the protestors, still gripping onto signs reading "SYNTHETIC ARE HYPOCRITES" and "STOP POLLUTING OUR CARS", he shakes his head, shoves his hands in his pockets and swaggers rather coolly back to his desk.

EDEN
Dumbasses.

The entire room is styled minimally – the desk and floor panelling have both been crafted from recycled wood, the walls from a sterile, white concrete and the frame of the room in a recycled steel. There aren't many decorations (something rather normal for an office), save for a few chairs made from old plastic and a computer. Everything about this room screams their eco-friendly message. A woman in grey overalls pokes her head around the door.

CLAIRE
You wanted me, sir?

EDEN
Yeah. Are you doing something about that racket out there?

CLAIRE
Yes- yes, sir. We're just working on it now. No problems. It's just… the protestors are mad, dunno how to appeal to them. I dunno how they could oppose this.

EDEN
That's the problem with common people. Not like us. The ones with vision. The ones who can actually fix the mess. Honestly, they should be grateful.

CLAIRE
Yes, sir.

EDEN
Well, what are you waiting for? Get rid of them!

CLAIRE
I just said, I don't know how.

EDEN
You're the Head of PR, work something out. Explain the science behind the scheme or... or something.

CLAIRE
Yes, sir.

EDEN
And hurry up, I can't hear myself think.

Claire nods, hurrying out. He leans back on his chair, bringing his fingers together, reshaping his hand into a steeple. [Track 6 ends]

9 INT. ZACH'S LIVING ROOM – DAY
[Track 7: The American Sense of Humour 0:00 – 0:50] Zach stares grimly at Ashley – now, she's wearing quite vibrant colours; whilst the base of the blouse is coated in black (matching her jeans), it's decorated in a floral pattern of pinks, greens and yellows, flowing all the way down the sides. As she talks, she uses hand gestures in an excessive and extravagant fashion. Shona rests her elbows on the coffee table, and on her hands rest her head; she's obviously bored, but is still attempting to take an interest, whereas Deisha is enthralled.

ASHLEY
So he kept trying to pull me all night, yeah, and it turned out that I'd dated his brother for a whole year! Be fair though, I was a little drunk. I mean, it was Anna's leaving bash, I wasn't going home sober- Or alone, if you get what I mean.

She passes Deisha a naughty side look, and Shona clears her throat, quickly jumping to her feet.

SHONA
Okay, does anyone want anything? Ashley, tea, water? Nytol?

ASHLEY
Oh, nothing for me, thanks.

SHONA
I'm going to get myself a drink anyway.

She walks out petulantly, muttering under her breath.

SHONA
Hopefully something a bit stronger than wine.

ASHLEY
So, Deisha! New school, what's that been like?

DEISHA
Alright, y'know.

ASHLEY
Oh, come on! Just "alright"? Spill the tea, all the hot goss! Who's got the nicest bum?

Deisha widens her eyes, a little amused, a little horrified, repositioning herself on the sofa.

ZACH
Ashley!

ASHLEY
What? She's 12! It's not gonna be a surprise that she's taking a fancy to some guy, is it?

DEISHA
Actually, I uh…

She bites her tongue.

DEISHA
Nah, no guys at the moment.

ASHLEY
Oh, honey no! What has your dad been teaching you? If I was your mum, you'd have had-

DEISHA
A boyfriend at the age of 8.

ASHLEY
That's right! Honestly, how old were you when you met Shona, eh? 17?

ZACH
Yeah.

ASHLEY
Has he told you how they met?

DEISHA
No, and I want to know! Tell me everything.

ZACH
I don't think we need to-

ASHLEY
Alright, the date's, ooh, 2007. Your old uncle Adam, he takes us all shopping, and Zach here, goes and sees this beautiful girl in the aisle. Now, you know what teenage boys are like. Tries to introduce himself, trips and falls over a trolley.

Deisha snickers, whilst Zach shakes his head disapprovingly.

ZACH
Good ol' Uncle Adam. Oh, yeah, wasn't that the entire reason you came down here today?

[Track 7 ends] An awkward silence is instilled upon the room.

DEISHA
I'm… gonna go see if mum needs help.

ASHLEY
Good idea, sweetie.

She bolts out, leaving the tension brewing between Ashley and Zach. [Track 8: Helen Where Are You?]

ASHLEY
You alright there? Seem a little riled-

ZACH
Is that so shocking? Is it shocking to you that I'm annoyed at my sister, who doesn't seem to care about the anniversary of our brother's death? At my older sister, who's flaunting a bunch of relationship mishaps in front of my 12 year old daughter, and letting her think that's okay?

ASHLEY
She's allowed to do what she wants with relationships! What are you scared of? Her turning into me? You really think that lowly of me?

ZACH
No!

ASHLEY
Then what is the big deal?

ZACH
The big deal is that one year ago, our brother died, and you're not really taking it all too seriously!

ASHLEY
You think I don't care? You think that- that I am just treating it like a normal day?

ZACH
Yeah!

ASHLEY
You ever stop to think about what it's been like for me? We were close, you, me and him! Dad ran off when you were born, our mum was abusive, Adam was the one who looked after us!

ZACH
Yeah, don't you think I know that? So why are you just pretending it never happened?!

ASHLEY
Because he died! He just, just left! Without saying goodbye! Part of me thought "we don't need parents, we can handle it ourselves", despite what other people said about us! And then that was gone! I mean, what do you expect of me?! Do you really think I can just move on, come and see you when it tears me up to see a part of him inside you? You look like him, you, you-

Zach pulls Ashley in for a hug.

ZACH
It's going to be okay, it's going to be okay.

ASHLEY
No, it's not.

ZACH
Yes, it is!

They start to sob silently.

ZACH
I get it, we've both been struggling. But do you really think the best way of overcoming it is by distracting yourself with drinking, boys and partying?

ASHLEY
It's worked for me the past year.

ZACH
No, it hasn't.

ASHLEY
No, you're right, it hasn't.

They giggle a little, like schoolchildren.

ZACH
Look, I know it's hard for you. But neither of us can move on without the support of the other. I mean it's been a year, and we've seen you at Christmas, and that's it?

ASHLEY
I text!

ZACH
Yeah, a month ago. Come on, get your coat.

ASHLEY
Where we going?

ZACH
Where you think, dumbo? Going to see him.

He picks up her jacket and chucks it at her, grinning. [Track 8 ends]

10 EXT. SYNTHETIC HQ – DAY
[Track 9: I Was Nothing, I Was Weak] The Doctor clambers awkwardly over the huge metal fence surrounding the building. Jumping down onto the tarmac, she sprints towards the imposing structure, making her way along the pristine white concrete wall until she finds a metal door marked "NO ENTRANCE".

DOCTOR
Says who?

She whips out the sonic, aiming it at the door and pressing the button. It hums and whizzes away, and the door unlocks. Grinning, she stuffs the sonic back into her pocket and slips inside.

11 INT. FACTORY FLOOR – DAY
The Doctor enters a large, warehouse-like room, with little windows and lots of piping lining the ceiling and walls, almost creating a maze of metal. The pipes all carry a thick, white liquid down towards stout, cylindrical vats on the floor, hundreds of them in the factory. When the vats are full, the vats close as a metal lid comes crashing down upon them with tremendous force, and they begin to whirr, before the vats are empty and the process begins again. The Doctor sneaks over to one, inspecting it carefully.

DOCTOR
What are you doing?

She goes to another one, and another, all doing the exact same.

DOCTOR
All pumping the same thing, but how is this saving the environment? Something's fishy about this, something…

She scans the liquid, but before she can make any deducations, she hears a door slam. Two workers rush across the floor, busily conversing. The Doctor hides, listening intently to their conversation.

WORKER
Get this video out by five, that's the deadline. Here's the instructions, get it down to the marketing department, and quickly. We're already on short time as it is. Got it?

The other worker nods and bursts through another door. The Doctor edges back slowly, stumbling over yet another pipe and making a clang. The worker hears this, frowning. He approaches the sound, and sees the Doctor crouching down.

DOCTOR
Hi. Caretaker? No?

She gives an embarrassed smile. [Track 9 ends]

12 EXT. GRAVEYARD – DAY
[Track 10: The Birling Factory] The weather is fickle, the low sun poking through the grey clouds spitting rain. Zach, Deisha, Shona and Ashley walk along sombrely towards the same grave they were at exactly a year ago.

DEISHA
Wow.

ZACH
Yeah. How… how do we want to do this? One at a time?

ASHLEY
Sure. Mind if I… go first?

ZACH
Go ahead. Come on, let's give her some privacy.

Zach, Deisha and Shona walk off, leaving Ashley alone with the grave.

ASHLEY
Hey man, how you been? Oh, yeah. Sorry, bad joke.

The crows squawk overhead, agitating Ashley a bit.

ASHLEY
I bet they get on your nerves, don't they? So um, you know, I've been leading same old life. Having fun, enjoying the world, making you proud. I dunno whether you'd be proud of me. I hope you are. If you're watching over me, I… I hope that me having fun is good. If it is fun, I dunno- I'm waffling. Do I usually waffle? I don't know what to say! First time in my life. I guess the most important thing is… I'm sorry. It shouldn't have been you. You had so much ahead of you, you were hardworking, you were caring, and you didn't deserve to go. I've made a mess of my life, and if anyone had to leave, it should've been me. I mean, the pair of you are so much better than me. That family of his, I may be teasing, but… Zach does make a good father. Obviously, I'd never say that to his face. And what does my life amount to? Drinking, dancing and dudes. Quite sexy dudes at that. You know, still got that going for me.

She smirks.

ASHLEY
There's a bit of a queue, so I'd better move it along. I'm sorry I haven't seen you much, it's just hard, y'know? I'll try to visit more often.

She goes to say something more, but hesitates.

ASHLEY
See ya.

She kisses the gravestone, but then sticks her tongue out, a little disgusted.

ASHLEY
Not the best idea I've had.

She turns around and rejoins the group.

ASHLEY
Go on, Deisha. You next?

DEISHA
Oh, um… sure.

Deisha starts towards the gravestone, as Ashley mutters in her ear.

ASHLEY
Don't kiss the gravestone.

She raises an eyebrow and throws a quizzical look at Ashley.

DEISHA
Why on Earth would I kiss the gravestone?

Shrugging it off, she arrives at the grave, staring at it.

DEISHA
Okay. Hi, Uncle Adam. God, it's been a while. I guess you're up in Heaven hanging with Freddy Mercury, so that's cool. Quite a bit's changed, started secondary. Not too different from primary yet, but it's still a little scary. I dunno who I want to be there. I think I'm getting into it, though. Started making friends, there's this girl, Emily. Really cool, clever, funny, pretty… Yeah, things're going well, I think. Miss you, though. I think Dad does too. I mean, I knew you weren't going to stick around forever, but I thought we'd have had more time. I didn't really get to know you, which is why I'm maybe a little weirded out by talking to a stone slab. I know this is kinda selfish, but I want more time with you. I wanted you to see me grow up, and do whatever the hell you do when you're an adult. Work, love, whatever. I'm glad we got 11 years, but…

She wipes a tear from her eye, then dawdles back to the group as if nothing had happened.

DEISHA
Mum, you want to?

SHONA
Uh, no, it's okay. You go, Zach.

ZACH
Sure?

SHONA
Yeah, go on.

ZACH
Alright.

He walks to the grave, awkwardly shifting from one leg to the other.

ZACH
Alright, Adam? Guess who? Why do I always start this in the stupidest way? For you, it's been a couple weeks since I visited- Well, sort of. I guess eternity in the afterlife must mean there's no time anymore. Weird. Distracting myself. Few weeks for you, but it's been just over two months for me. I've been travelling with this friend of mine, it's hard to explain but she… she's showing me the universe. I know I sound mad, but I'm not. I've been to another world; I saw the fall of the Berlin Wall! Sometimes I wonder if the Doctor- my friend- if she could take me back to see you, but… I think it'd hurt too much. Besides, she said something once about time being able to get changed and rewritten, and I wouldn't want to accidentally make you homeless or something. All that time, I didn't forget you. I kept thinking, how would you react if you were here? Fighting aliens, running about, saving the Universe. That last one would be right up your street. You'd love it. Or maybe not, it's scary at times. But the thought of coming home, to see my family again, it kept me going.

He smiles, and rests his hand on the gravestone.

ZACH
Miss you, bud.

He walks back, wrapping his arm around Deisha, and with one final look, they start to head away from the gravestone. [Track 10 ends]

13 INT. EDEN'S OFFICE – DAY
[Track 11: Planet of the Arn] The Doctor steps in slyly, as Eden stares out of the window as he did before.

EDEN
Good afternoon… I'm sorry, the guard didn't tell me your name.

DOCTOR
Doctor will do.

EDEN
Doctor? You got a PhD in journalism? I mean, you are an investigative journalist, right?

DOCTOR
Could say that.

EDEN
How obvious. I'm afraid you're not the first begging for a scoop here.

He sits at his desk, his beady eyes pressing into the Doctor aggressively.

EDEN
But this interview will be conducted by me, Doctor. How did you get into the building? Our security is absolute.

DOCTOR
Tricks of my trade.

EDEN
Well, however you did it, can't have been legal. What would your boss think?

DOCTOR
Don't have a boss.

EDEN
Self-employed? I admire that.

He clicks a small black button as he does. He reclines in his chair, grinning and raising an eyebrow, almost imposing is self-assurance.

DOCTOR
I bet you do. Teenager like you, forging the way for a new world, a clean world.

EDEN
I'm not a teenager.

DOCTOR
No? Early twenties, then. Barely out of uni. How'd you manage all this? Revolutionising the eco-friendly policies of the United Kingdom from one tiny office.

EDEN
Like you say, Doctor. Revolutionary ideas, just waiting there. Just waiting for the right person to pitch them.

DOCTOR
And that person's you?

EDEN
Correct.

DOCTOR
It's interesting. Before I came to see you, had a little snoop around your facilities. I was already suspicious of what you were putting into these cars to clean them. Plastic. Now how exactly is plastic helping pollution?

EDEN
I think you'll find that answer will lie in an information broadcast going online later tonight.

DOCTOR
I don't need a PR scheme, Mr…

She looks down at the name plate on his desk – Eden West.

DOCTOR
Mr West.

EDEN
Please, call me Eden.

DOCTOR
Funny name, that. Eden. Fits your job title.

EDEN
Hmm, doesn't it just?

DOCTOR
I'll ask the question again, Eden. How is plastic cleaning the air pollution, and how did you get the government to agree? I looked up your records, you've been going for only two and a half years. How's that work?

EDEN
I think you'll find that some problems can be resolved in the same way they were caused. Air pollution was, primarily, caused by the industrial revolution. The advancement of technology, so we continued that trend. Self-evolving plastic. Thinks and breathes like a living organism, absorbs the toxins and we're cleaner.

DOCTOR
Then what happens to the plastic? If it's growing like a normal creature.

EDEN
Eventually, it'll be discarded.

DOCTOR
Discarded? A living creature will be discarded?

EDEN
Correct.

DOCTOR
That's inhuman.

EDEN
They were created via tubes, they may bear the same properties of a sentient creature, but I assure you, they're not. Much like plants. Synthesised organics. Isn't that neat?

DOCTOR
You know, I've heard of something like this before.

EDEN
I'm sure you haven't, this is leading technology.

DOCTOR
On Earth, yes. But living plastic, there's something not too dissimilar to that off-world.

EDEN
Are you seriously suggesting that our company is… extra-terrestrial in origin? Honestly, I can see why no media company wants to hire you.

DOCTOR
So you don't know anything about Nestenes? No?

EDEN
No. I admire your courage to come up with such a story, and the way you managed to bypass our security. It's nice to acknowledge someone on a similar level of genius to me. If that's everything, my guards will escort you off the premises.

He clicks his fingers, and a man in a tight suit with a bowtie walks in. The Doctor stands up, staring him down.

DOCTOR
I don't know what you're planning, Eden, but whatever the Nestenes want, it's not good.

She strolls out, avoiding getting grabbed by the guard and making her own way towards the door. Eden looks after her, then rolls his eyes.

EDEN
Freelance. No-one to miss them.

He speaks into a radio. [Track 11 ends]

EDEN
Kill the Doctor.

[Track 12: Ram Saves The Day] He drums the table, excited.

14 INT. CORRIDOR – DAY
The Doctor and the guard walk along, the latter listening to his orders. He stops, which concerns the Doctor. Suddenly, another guard walks in at the end of the corridor, aggressive.

DOCTOR
Hiya. Wasn't expecting company. Seriously, does Eden West need two strong lads to chuck me out? I'm not that strong!

They raise their arm, pointed towards her.

DOCTOR
Uh oh.

Their hands open up, to reveal a gun inside! She ducks down as both of the guards fire – impaling each other with their bullets. She glances up at them, then bursts through another door.

15 INT. EDEN'S OFFICE – DAY
He watches the CCTV, and snarls. He slams his hand down against a big red button, and an alarm goes off.

16 INT. CORRIDOR – DAY
The Doctor sprints down another corridor, hearing the alarm.

DOCTOR
That sounds very high-tech for a factory!

Another guard appears in the corridor, and she tries another door – locked. She kicks through it into a large office.

17 INT. OFFICE – DAY
All the office workers face the Doctor, opening their hands to fire at the Doctor.

DOCTOR
You've got to be kidding me!

She dodges all the fire, charging towards the large window, and-
SMASH!

18 EXT. SYNTHETIC HQ – DAY
She lands on the tarmac, surrounded by shards of glass, and stumbles to her feet, continuing to run off. Eden watches from his window, yelling indistinctly.

19 INT. EDEN'S OFFICE – DAY
Eden stares out of the window as she sprints off. A worker runs in, a little disgruntled.

EDEN
You let her escape?!

CLIFF
Sorry, sir. Don't worry, we'll find her.

EDEN
You bet she will!

CLIFF
One crackpot journalist can't expose us.

EDEN
She knows too much. We need the power back. Contact the sleepers across the city. Find out where she's going.

Cliff smirks, which quickly fades with a snarl from Eden. [Track 12 ends]

20 INT. ZACH'S LIVING ROOM – DAY
Zach and Deisha are talking to each other, discussing her homework, whilst Ashley and Shona are conversing quietly in the corner.

ASHLEY
Has… has he been okay? This year.

SHONA
Not really. He tries to hide it, but even now, he's struggling. And… I found some antidepressants in his drawer.

ASHLEY
Have you talked to him about it?

SHONA
Do you really think he'd tell the truth?

There's a knock at the door.

ZACH
I'll get it.

He shoots up and rushes to the door.

21 INT. ZACH'S HALLWAY – DAY
[Track 13: An American Sense of Humour] He opens the door, to see a breathless Doctor in front of him.

DOCTOR
Hi!

ZACH
My god! What happened to you?

DOCTOR
Long story. Mind if I come in?

She barges past him.

ZACH
Uh, well, I-

He shuts the door and follows after her.

22 INT. ZACH'S LIVING ROOM – DAY
She walks in, seeing Shona, Deisha and Ashley.

DOCTOR
Oh! You've got company.

Zach slowly walks in, sheepish.

ZACH
Doctor, this is my sister, Ashley… my wife, Shona and my daughter, Deisha.

She looks at him, surprised. She whispers.

DOCTOR
You didn't tell me you had a family.

ZACH
Yeah… sorry about that.

She addresses the room.

DOCTOR
Alright, everyone? I'm the Doctor.

SHONA
Doctor?

DEISHA
Dad, are you okay?

DOCTOR
Oh, don't worry. Not that sort of Doctor. Well, in a way I am, but not professionally. I'm a Doctor in most things.

DEISHA
So you're a Doctor in Maths?

DOCTOR
Just about scraped through that one, but yep!

DEISHA
Can you help with my maths homework? Dad's useless.

DOCTOR
Sure, I can!

The Doctor kneels down beside Deisha and immediately starts looking over the sheet. Shona pulls Zach to the side.

SHONA
Who's she?

ZACH
A mate, that's all.

SHONA
How come you've never mentioned her?

ZACH
I dunno.

They glimpse down at her, then back to each other.

ZACH
She seems to be getting on well with Deisha, though.

SHONA
Zach, why is there a doctor here, and…

She looks over her shoulder at Ashley, encouraging her.

SHONA
Why are there antidepressants in your bedside table? What aren't you telling me?

He blushes, chills running down his back.

ZACH
Oh, I…

SHONA
Don't lie to me. You've been keeping secrets for a while now. What's going on?

DEISHA
Wow, thanks!

Their conversation is abruptly ended as the Doctor jumps up.

DEISHA
You any good at Geography?

DOCTOR
Nah, rubbish at finding locations.

ZACH
You can say that again.

DOCTOR
Now, History, that's what I'm good at. But I've got to talk to your dad for a bit, that okay?

DEISHA
'Kay. Thanks, though.

DOCTOR
My pleasure. Quickly, kitchen.

The Doctor leads Zach out, and Shona follows in hot pursuit.

23 INT. ZACH'S KITCHEN – DAY
The Doctor swivels on the stool like a child.

DOCTOR
I love swively chairs!

ZACH
Doctor, focus.

DOCTOR
Right, yeah. Trouble.

ZACH
Alien trouble?

DOCTOR
Yep.

ZACH
You've been gone for a couple hours, how's that even possible?!

SHONA
Did… did you just say aliens?

Shona enters, and Zach stutters.

ZACH
Uh, what? No.

DOCTOR
Hi, haven't met properly.

The Doctor shakes her hand.

SHONA
Alright, explain. Who the hell is in my kitchen?

ZACH
Give us a few seconds, love.

SHONA
No!

DOCTOR
First things first, do you have a car?

ZACH
No.

DOCTOR
Okay, that's clear for now. Anything else causing pollution? Anything fitted with products from Synthetic Corporation?

Zach almost seems mortified upon hearing the company's name, but then hides it.

ZACH
Why?

DOCTOR
They just tried to kill me.

SHONA
You're kidding, right?

DOCTOR
Nope.

ZACH
A massive corporation is getting run by aliens?

DOCTOR
We know it's not the first time.

SHONA
Not the first time? Would someone tell me what the hell is going on?

The Doctor rummages in her pocket and takes out the psychic paper.

SHONA
What the hell is UNIT?

DOCTOR
Super secret crack team, investigating the alien goings-on on Earth.

SHONA
This isn't serious, right?

DOCTOR
'Fraid so. Zach here helped me out a couple days ago.

Shona widens her eyes, incredibly unimpressed. Zach looks between her and the Doctor, struggling to find the right words.

ZACH
I was- You know, I didn't want to worry you.

SHONA
What's worrying me is that you're hiding stuff from your own wife. What's with the secrecy, Zach?

DOCTOR
Listen, what was it? Shona?

SHONA
Yeah.

DOCTOR
Listen, Shona. I know you're concerned about your husband. But right now, I need your help. I need to make sure your family is safe. Now, is there anything in here made by Synthetic Corporation?

SHONA
Um, I don't know.

ZACH
Yes, there is. There's a box of Adam's old stuff in the cupboard in the hallway. Never could throw it out.

DOCTOR
Who's Adam?

ZACH
My brother.

DOCTOR
Oh, right.

ZACH
He… he worked for Synthetics.

DOCTOR
Really? Can you-?

ZACH
Go get it? Sure.

Zach rushes off into the hallway, leaving the Doctor and Shona awkwardly staring at each other.

DOCTOR
I'm sorry that Zach's involved in this, I didn't know.

SHONA
Honestly, I'll take alien hunter over third wheel any day. He's safe though, right? You wouldn't get him involved if it wasn't safe.

DOCTOR
I promise you I'll try my best to look after him.

She smiles a little, then Zach returns. [Track 13 ends]

ZACH
Be careful with it, please.

[Track 14: At First It's A Game] The Doctor files through a couple of folders, skimming over the contents.

DOCTOR
Where did he work? In what department?

ZACH
Just on the factory floor.

DOCTOR
Now, that's interesting. Cos I took a visit to the factory, and they're heavily mechanised.

SHONA
Yeah, a couple months ago, loads of people were laid off.

DOCTOR
Maybe people were starting to question what they were doing. It's like he said, rapidly evolving technology. Improving the world.

ZACH
You don't think… Adam was involved?

DOCTOR
I don't know. How did he die?

ZACH
Car accident. It was so gruesome they wouldn't let us see the body.

Shona puts her hand on his shoulder.

DOCTOR
Wouldn't let you see the body… Hang on, what's this?

She opens up a folder that reads: INNER WORKINGS. She shares a knowing glance with the group.

DOCTOR
"Inner workings" doesn't seem like something for a basic factory worker.

She takes out a letter.

DOCTOR
'This is on physical paper because I have reason to believe that something is stalking the digital servers. Something evil is working inside Synthetic Corporation. People are dying, and they are all employed by Synthetic. My colleagues. No-one is suspicious yet, but I'm piecing it together. Why won't they tell us what they are planning? What is it for? At this point in time, the target audience is for shops, producing mannequins and toys. But I know Eden West has a higher goal. Currently, only 70% of the plastic is being made for that. But the other 30% is being shipped off somewhere else, and I don't know what. If anyone is reading this, I have either exposed the truth or…'

She trails off.

DOCTOR
'I have either exposed the truth or I have been caught in my investigations. I hope that the latter never comes true. Adam Ellis, 23rd August 2019.'

ZACH
He'd been investigating for 2 months. Why didn't he tell us?

SHONA
Seems like secrecy runs in the family.

DOCTOR
Maybe he was trying to keep you safe. If he found out that what was going on was exposing, and he knew that people were missing because of it, he didn't want to put you at risk.

Zach eyes Shona, then nods.

ZACH
But this confirms it. He was involved.

DOCTOR
Seems like it.

ZACH
Then we've got to go.

Zach storms off.

DOCTOR
Go where?

They rush off into the hallway.

24 INT. ZACH'S HALLWAY – DAY
He snatches his jacket off the coat hook, as the Doctor pulls him back.

DOCTOR
What are you doing?

ZACH
Something happened to Adam, and Synthetic was involved. I'm going to take them down.

SHONA
By yourself? A random bloke in a tiny flat is going to take on a government-funded organisation with no leads, nothing?

ZACH
Watch me.

SHONA
Even if this is all true, which I'm finding a little hard to believe to be frank, Adam risked his life, and he lost it. I'm not letting you do the same, not when you've got a daughter in the other room!

DOCTOR
Zach… I get you're angry. We will stop them. But going headfirst into it isn't the way. You know this.

He ignores them, and heads out the door, slamming it behind him. [Track 14 ends]

SHONA
Za-Zach!

DOCTOR
Okay. AWOL Zach. Not good news.

SHONA
I need to go after him.

DOCTOR
Stay safe. I know this is a lot to take in.

SHONA
I don't care if it is or not. Zach obviously believes it, and if he's not in the right headspace…

DOCTOR
Yeah.

SHONA
Ashley, I'm going out, look after Deisha!

Shona rushes out the door. Ashley pokes her head out. [Track 15: Fishing Take Down]

ASHLEY
What's all this shouting about?

DOCTOR
Ashley, Zach's sister, right?

ASHLEY
That's me.

DOCTOR
What did you know about Adam's job?

Ashley frowns.

25 EXT. MARSH COURT – DAY
Zach storms across the lawn, and Shona catches up to him.

ZACH
Go home.

SHONA
Not bloody likely.

They walk on.

26 INT. ZACH'S KITCHEN – DAY
Ashley and the Doctor read the files, passing scraps of paper to each other and compiling a report. Deisha watches them from the doorway.

ASHLEY
Look at this.

DOCTOR
Oh, yes, yes, and that… supports… where was it? Oh, yes, here.

27 EXT. MARE STREET – DAY
Zach and Shona walk along the high street, noting the mannequins frozen in the shop windows.

ZACH
They're everywhere. All over the place.

SHONA
You need to breathe. Running in without a plan won't get you anywhere. Just stop and think.

ZACH
Look at this place. Adam died trying to stop Synthetic doing whatever they're hell they're doing with these… Autons. They're in every shop on the high street. The longer we wait, the closer Synthetic come to starting their plan, and everyone on this street is in danger. Deisha's just down the road, she's in danger too.

SHONA
Then let's go sit down, and think about it.

ZACH
Alright.

SHONA
Come on.

They head towards a fish and chip shop.

28 INT. ZACH'S KITCHEN – DAY
The Doctor reads another note.

DOCTOR
Ashley, we've got another one, dated… 12th October.

ASHLEY
2 weeks before his death.

DOCTOR
'The codeword Nestene has appeared again on the servers. I don't know what it means, but I'm hoping it'll get me into the server room. Whatever's in there should tell me the truth. Adam Ellis.'

ASHLEY
So whatever happened to him…

DOCTOR
The answer's in the server room.

ASHLEY
Hang on a sec, didn't he nab the plans? Here!

They look at the blueprints for the building.

DOCTOR
No server room. At least none we can see. They obviously want to keep it secret.

Deisha hears a banging sound in the hallway.

ASHLEY
Is this what you do for a living? Alien spy? James Bond type thing?

DOCTOR
Pretty much.

DEISHA
Hey, Auntie Ash?

ASHLEY
That's cool. How'd Zach get involved?

DOCTOR
I was investigating Pio World. He had knowledge on it, helped me out.

ASHLEY
The bank? They got closed down last night.

DOCTOR
Yep. That was us.

ASHLEY
Oh my god.

DEISHA
Aunt Ashley.

ASHLEY
There's aliens everywhere nowadays, ain't there?

DOCTOR
Yep. Least it gives me something to do. It's either that or knitting. Well, knitting's not that bad, actually.

Ashley laughs. [Track 15 ends]

DEISHA
Aunt Ashley!

ASHLEY
What?

There's more banging. [Track 16: Regicide]

DOCTOR
What's that?

They all run into the hallway.

29 INT. ZACH'S HALLWAY – DAY
Something is trying to break through the cupboard door.

ASHLEY
Hello, what's going on here then?

DOCTOR
What's in there?

DEISHA
Just a cupboard.

DOCTOR
What's in the cupboard?

DEISHA
Old stuff, I dunno.

The door starts to splinter apart.

DOCTOR
You need to be more specific!

DEISHA
Uh- Games, old school stuff, toys.

DOCTOR
Toys- Toys?!

DEISHA
Yeah.

DOCTOR
Are any of your toys made from plastic?

DEISHA
Probably, yeah.

DOCTOR
Oh, no.

The Doctor flings open the door, and a few action figures start walking towards them menacingly.

DEISHA
You've got to be kidding me. You are kidding me.

ASHLEY
How's that working?

DOCTOR
Living plastic! Synthetics is controlling them!

The toys lift their arms, and mini guns come out, firing darts.

DOCTOR
Watch out!

The darts begin to expand, forming a soft plastic mess, wrapping itself around their ankles. They rip it off and kick it away.

DOCTOR
Not just living plastic, growing plastic!

DEISHA
Eww, I'm never watching Toy Story again!

Ashley darts into the kitchen, then returns with a pot, which she slams down on the toys.

DOCTOR
Good thinking!

Suddenly, the pot starts to move. Their smiles all fade and turn to expressions of horror. The toys begin to grow, rising up, getting larger until they're towering over the Doctor, Deisha and Ashley. They point their guns at them, and they all raise their hands.

DOCTOR
Eden! I know you're monitoring us! You've got me, okay, I surrender! I'll come willingly, but leave these two alone! Do you hear me? They're nothing to you! You need my genius! Leave them alone!

They stop advancing. [Track 16 ends]

DOCTOR
Thank you. Now, let's talk face-to-face instead of sending your toy soldiers after me.

The life-size toys grab the Doctor and push her forward.

ASHLEY
What about us?

DOCTOR
You two, make sure that you stay clear of anything plastic. Get rid of absolutely anything that could be a threat.

ASHLEY
You got it.

DEISHA
If you see my dad, tell him I love him.

DOCTOR
I will.

She winks, and then is escorted away by the Autons.

ASHLEY
You heard her, come on!

They start scouring the flat for plastic.

30 INT. MARE STREET – DAY
[Track 17: Heavy Petal] The sun is starting to set, and the sky is darkening. Shona and Zach walk along, eating fish and chips.

SHONA
What are you thinking?

ZACH
You're right, we need to come up with a plan. But one of us needs to stay with Deisha. If it goes wrong-

SHONA
Ashley's looking after her. She loves that girl and she'll care for her. You need someone to make sure you're okay.

ZACH
We need to get inside that building, follow Adam's footsteps. The Doctor said that the factory floor is full of machines now, so there's going to be less people working there. There's a chance the building's security is automated.

SHONA
We know there are still some people working there though - they attacked the Doctor. How easily I said that.

ZACH
Right, but there's less people than there were. There's going to be changes to staff, perhaps the entire place is made of Autons. They don't have human ingenuity, they're plastic.

SHONA
And then what?

ZACH
Like I say, follow Adam's footsteps, learn what he was getting close to finding out and expose it.

SHONA
You know, as much as I don't like you taking these kinds of risks, it's nice to see you active again. Haven't seen you like this in a while.

ZACH
…Yeah.

SHONA
Why didn't you tell me about the depression?

ZACH
You're already under so much pressure with the shop and your mum and Deisha, I didn't want to burden you with any more.

SHONA
Didn't you realise that you not telling me things is worrying me even more?

ZACH
I'm sorry. We can talk about this later. Right now, we've got a job to do. Let's get to that building.

Zach speeds up.

31 INT. EDEN'S OFFICE – EVENING
The Doctor is thrown into Eden's office, apprehended by the Autons.

EDEN
Welcome back, Doctor.

DOCTOR
What now?

EDEN
I wanted to continue our chat. You're very knowledgeable, and knowledge is power.

DOCTOR
That's true.

EDEN
Which is why I'd like to know where you are when it all ends.

He types into his computer, and spins the monitor around. A red light shows up, now facing the Doctor.

DOCTOR
What's this?

EDEN
This, Doctor… This is the Nestene control signal. Developed by yours truly. If you do enough digging, the Nestenes have come to Earth numerous times. You know about that, of course.

DOCTOR
Of course.

EDEN
Well, I had an idea. We could use them to clean our air. Humans have ruined this world, our Auton troops can make something of it. They can occupy the landmasses, which will be constantly pumping more toxic fuel into the atmosphere for them to absorb.

DOCTOR
An Auton farm.

EDEN
Auton-mated, if you will.

DOCTOR
Which is why you mechanised the factory.

EDEN
More pollutive machines, more toxins.

DOCTOR
And the cars.

EDEN
We own them. We control them, we can get them going and they can feed off them forever. That's good, right?

He claps his hands ecstatically.

DOCTOR
You can't trust them. They weren't grown in a test tube, they're alien.

EDEN
Oh, I know that. And there's a very strong chance they'll kill off the human race, but they deserve it for what they've done to this world. I tried to warn them years ago, but they didn't listen. Nobody listens.

DOCTOR
So this is your revenge? Your big statement? Genocide?

EDEN
And giving the planet to a more deserving group.

Eden turns the monitor back around and hovers his finger over the enter button.

EDEN
With one click, the invasion shall begin. First, the United Kingdom. Then, it shouldn't be too easy to spread across the landmasses. They can piggyback off the pollution in the oceans. Like frogs on lilypads.

DOCTOR
Eden, you don't have to do this! There are other ways, better ways!

EDEN
I've tried other ways! I've spent half my life working for this. I've been beaten, unappreciated. You can't stop me now.

DOCTOR
Don't do it! Eden, don't! Don't!

He throws his hand down, and the computer starts to whirr. The Doctor tries to break out of the Autons' grip, but fails as she watches a beam of energy shoot into Eden. [Track 17 ends]

EDEN
It begins...

Eden collapses to the floor.

32 INT. ZACH'S LIVING ROOM – EVENING
Ashley dumps all the cables, phone wires and toys onto the sofa.

ASHLEY
Easy. Deisha, how you getting along? Deisha?

The door slams, and Ashley gasps.

33 EXT. WALKWAY - EVENING
Ashley sees Deisha running off.

ASHLEY
Deisha, where are you going?

DEISHA
If they're in the streets, we've got to warn people!

ASHLEY
We need to stay inside!

DEISHA
You can! I'm sorry.

She bolts down the stairs.

ASHLEY
Maybe I am a bad influence…

34 INT. EDEN'S OFFICE - EVENING
The Autons stop for a moment, letting the Doctor run to Eden, crouching down. [Track 18: Dracorex]

DOCTOR
Eden? Eden, can you hear me? Plastic. Plastic surgery. He used his body as a host! An energy converter! The invasion's beginning!

The Doctor looks up.

DOCTOR
It's happening. It's happening again!

She panics, frantically trying to escape.

32 EXT. SYNTHETIC HQ – EVENING
The satellite dish on the top of the building begins to whirr around, increasing in speed.

33 EXT. MARE STREET – EVENING
Deisha sprints down the street, yelling at the public.

DEISHA
You need to run! You're all in danger!

WOMAN
Danger from what, sweetheart?

DEISHA
Go, get out of here, go!

She turns and sees- horror struck on her face – as a mannequin outside the shop suddenly jerks.

WOMAN
Oh! Scared me.

DEISHA
Everyone run!

Across the street, more mannequins come to life, and smash through the window, creating a cacophony of chaos! People run around as the Autons start to wreak havoc, trapping people in plastic mesh, slowing them down and making it easier to fire at them. One Auton points their gun at Deisha, but as it shoots, Ashley yanks her away.

ASHLEY
Come on, we need to get out of here!

Ashley and Deisha dart back down the road, as more and more Autons break out and attacking civilians. Cars go haywire, as the plastic devices hijack them and cause them to drive into people.

34 INT. EDEN'S OFFICE – EVENING
The Autons reawaken, preventing the Doctor from escaping. She backs away, and stares out the window at the carnage on the street below.

DOCTOR
Please, please, you don't have to do this! I can take you away somewhere where you can live in peace!

They grab her. She writhes, trying to break free.

35 INT. SHOPPING CENTRE – EVENING
Mannequins march out of the shops, terrorising the civilians, attacking them, as do the action figures, now grown to life size - all Autons. People are suffocated by plastic bags and phone cables. Screams and the whirring of kitchen utensils can be heard from inside a Homebase.

36 EXT. MARSH COURT – EVENING
Deisha and Ashley run down the street towards the building, dodging blasts from the Autons pursuing us.

ASHLEY
They're still coming!

DEISHA
Got that, thanks!

Ashley is hit by a projectile, and falls to the floor. Immediately, the plastic grows, wrapping around her back.

ASHLEY
Deisha!

Deisha notices, and runs back, pulling the plastic away, and throwing it at one of the Autons. It covers them, and they're pinned to the floor.

DEISHA
Yeet!

She glances at Ashley.

DEISHA
Probably not the coolest thing to say, but oh well.

They continue sprinting towards the house.

37 EXT. SYNTHETIC HQ – EVENING
Zach and Shona hide behind the bins as the main gates swing open, and all the employees march out like zombies, all armed with guns in their hands.

ZACH
It's started… They're invading!

SHONA
Okay, I totally believe you now. Earlier, I was only like 67% sure.

ZACH
Good thing is, looks like all the Autons are clearing out. We can get in there easy.

Zach grabs Shona's hand, kissing it, and holding her tight.

ZACH
I love you.

SHONA
Love you too.

They share a kiss once again, then move on.

38 INT. SHOPPING CENTRE – EVENING
People lie dead on the floor, as mannequins and action man dolls step over their corpses and make their way out onto the streets.

39 EXT. WALKWAY – EVENING
Deisha and Ashley get a clothes rack and shove it against the stairway door, before carrying on down the walkway. The Autons kick through it almost instantaneously. One Auton's arm suddenly grows, shooting across the walkway and grabbing Ashley's shoulder. Deisha grabs her hand, trying to pull her back, resulting in a tug of war between the two.

40 INT. SYNTHETIC HQ LOBBY – EVENING
They run in, their eyes darting about.

SHONA
Well, where now?!

ZACH
Uh, uh… Computer!

He dives over the desk and turns on the computer, scanning on the desktop before looking at some readings fluctuating on the screen.

ZACH
I think… I think the Autons are being controlled from here! Adam said there was something evil on the digital servers!

SHONA
Then we'll go to the generator, shut it down! They can't control it if there's no power!

ZACH
That's my girl!

He grins, pinpointing the generator room on the map.

41 INT. EDEN'S OFFICE – EVENING
Eden suddenly stands, his skin melting and reforming like wax.

DOCTOR
Eden, what have you done?!

EDEN
I'm far more than Eden. I am one of them now.

DOCTOR
No! They're draining you! Using you like a battery!

EDEN
It is better than humanity.

DOCTOR
That's not you talking! Your humanity is what drove all this! A desire to be better, to fix your world, to make a change! Don't give that up now! You can stop all this from continuing!

EDEN
Even if I wanted to, I couldn't stop the Auton troops. They will kill me!

DOCTOR
You're dying already!

EDEN
At least this way, the Nestenes shall live forever!

A flicker of pain is inflicted in Eden's eyes, disappearing quickly.

42 INT. SYNTHETIC HQ CORRIDOR – EVENING
Zach and Shona burst through a door that's marked NO ENTRY.

43 EXT. WALKWAY – EVENING
Another Auton fires a shot, ensnaring Deisha, causing her to lose her grip of Ashley. She screams as the Autons drag her closer and closer.

44 INT. SYNTHETIC HQ GENERATOR ROOM – EVENING
They sprint inside, seeing lots of large cables feeding into a large generator unit in the centre of the room.

ZACH
Pull everything out, quickly!

They both wrench of the cables out, as fast as they can, all around the generator, and it sparks.

ZACH
Get down... GET DOWN!

Zach dives to the floor, throwing Shona with her as the generator collapses in on itself, exploding.

45 EXT. WALKWAY – EVENING
Ashley is right in front of the Autons. They aim their guns at her.

46 EXT. SYNTHETIC HQ – EVENING
The power in the building shuts off. All the lights fade out, leaving Synthetic Corporation Headquarters in darkness.

47 EXT. WALKWAY – EVENING
The Autons suddenly freeze up and keel over.

47 EXT. MARE STREET – EVENING
All of the Autons do the same, collapsing onto the road, beside the fire and broken shards of glass, bent metal and wrecked cars. [Track 18 ends]

48 INT. EDEN'S OFFICE – EVENING
[Track 19: Quill vs Lore] The lights have turned off, and both of the full-sized toys flop to the floor, smashing to pieces.

EDEN
What… what's going on?

DOCTOR
I don't know. Power cut?

EDEN
Impossible. This is your doing.

DOCTOR
Honestly, it's not.

EDEN
Then we'll go see the source of the issue ourselves!

He yanks her by the hair and drags her along, as she yelps.

49 INT. SYNTHETIC HQ GENERATOR ROOM – EVENING
Zach and Shona look up, the dust and rubble from the explosion settling.

SHONA
Did it work?

ZACH
You know, I think it did. Come on, let's get out of here. Watch your step.

They run out.

50 INT. SYNTHETIC HQ LOBBY – EVENING
The street lamps shed a bit of light into the lobby. Zach and Shona head towards the exit, but are cut off by Eden, still holding onto the Doctor.

ZACH
Doctor!

DOCTOR
Oh! Good to see you. Nice work, you two! You okay?

ZACH
Yeah- are you?

DOCTOR
Not really.

SHONA
Who's he?

DOCTOR
Eden West. CEO of Synthetics.

ZACH
Eden West… Adam mentioned him.

EDEN
Who are you?

ZACH
Me?

He steps forward, now right in Eden's personal space.

ZACH
I'm the guy whose brother you killed.

Zach decks the Eden in the face, and he falls to the floor in an instant. The Doctor stumbles to Zach and Shona's side.

DOCTOR
Normally, I detest violence, but… I'm not going to get on your bad side.

The Doctor crouches down.

DOCTOR
Problem with hanging around in this body, is… it's not a full Auton. Sure, it might be a plastic shell, but you're unarmed. You're dying. You've got no power. You've lost.

EDEN
No… I am more powerful than you could ever imagine. I have dominance over you weaklings-Aargh!

He winces, and for a few seconds, humanity returns to his eyes.

EDEN
What's happen- What's happening to me?!

Mentally, there's obviously a struggle, as the body keels over onto the floor.

DOCTOR
It's overwhelming you. Your mind is burning.

EDEN
What are you doing-? Ack!

DOCTOR
Get rid of it.

EDEN
No! I have... power!

DOCTOR
Power isn't everything, Eden. Please, let it go! Do the right thing!

EDEN
Make… it… stop! You're just like the others! You're lying to me!

Blood and sweat drips down from his face, screaming.

DOCTOR
Eden! Remember everything that makes you human. That pain, that torment, that heartbreak. Everything you felt before the Nestenes invaded your life. Loneliness, sorrow! That motivation to save the planet. Now save yourself! All they want is conquest and power. That's not humanity. You are Eden West. And you are brilliant.

Eden looks up to the three one final time, tears streaming.

EDEN
We can't be saved.

He screams, before he goes limp, utterly devoid of life.

SHONA
What- what happened?

DOCTOR
Eden, he… they used him up like a battery. Without the Autons to maintain the link... burned him up.

SHONA
Is he… I mean, is he dead?

DOCTOR
Yes. I'm sorry.

The Doctor kneels down beside Eden, closing his eyes, and bowing her head. [Track 19 ends]

FADE TO BLACK:

49 EXT. MARSH COURT – NIGHT
[Track 20: You Really Need To Get Out of Those Clothes 0:40 – 2:22 (fade in needed)] Police sirens wail in the distance, and the Doctor leans against the police box. Deisha walks out to see her.

DOCTOR
Alright?

DEISHA
Hey. It's all over the news, shop window dummies coming to life.

DOCTOR
Would be. They know the casualty count yet?

DEISHA
No. Dad told us what's really going on.

DOCTOR
How's your mum taking it?

DEISHA
All been a bit much for her, but… she's seen a lot worse running that shop of hers. Besides, it's 2020. Travelling through time and space with an alien in a blue box that's bigger on the inside is not the weirdest thing to happen.

DOCTOR
Heh. Wanna have a look inside?

Deisha beams as the doors swing open.

DEISHA
Ooh…

She runs inside, and the Doctor follows her.

50 INT. TARDIS
Deisha gazes around.

DEISHA
This is insane! How do you get used to it?

DOCTOR
You don't. So, are you okay with him going travelling with me?

DEISHA
I'll be glad to see shot of him!

They giggle a little.

DOCTOR
Seriously, though.

DEISHA
Sure. He deserves it, after everything he's been through.

DOCTOR
Maybe one day I could take you somewhere.

DEISHA
I'd like that.

DOCTOR
Not tonight though – if my calculations are correct, it's a school night.

She groans.

DEISHA
Just… just promise me you'll look after him.

DOCTOR
With both of my hearts.

DEISHA
Thank you.

She smiles, as Ashley, Shona and Zach head inside – Zach has a large bag, now packed with clothes and other items.

DOCTOR
Hey, you.

SHONA
Woah!

ASHLEY
You can say that again!

SHONA
It really is bigger on the inside… This isn't some fever dream, is it?

ZACH
As far as I can tell, no. Hey, look at me, all packed. Proper traveller now.

Zach looks at Shona.

ZACH
If that's… okay with you.

SHONA
…Keep in touch, alright?

He grins, then kisses her on the cheek.

DEISHA
Gross.

SHONA
Please, come home. Save as many people as you can, go to the furthest reaches of the Universe, but… please, please come home.

ZACH
I will.

SHONA
Then I'm okay with it. I mean, it's clearly doing you some good. Rushing about, got you excited for the first time in a while.

ASHLEY
I'm okay with it too, if anyone cares.

ZACH
Nah, I don't. Just kidding, come here.

Zach goes in for a hug once again, bringing in his wife and his daughter this time.

ZACH
Oh, come on. I need to go, otherwise I'll never leave.

DOCTOR
Don't worry, Shona. I'll look after him.

SHONA
You better.

ASHLEY
Come on, you lot. Let's clear off.

ZACH
See ya, sis.

Zach waves them off as they exit the box, and the doors close behind them.

DOCTOR
You sure about this?

ZACH
Yeah. I trust you to get me back. Don't know why, cos this is the first time you've got us where we need to be, but… yeah, I trust you.

DOCTOR
Brilliant.

She places her hand on the lever, and tugs it, the TARDIS wheezing once again.

51 EXT. MARSH COURT – NIGHT
The three watch as the TARDIS erupts into light, and disappears, absolutely stunned.

DEISHA
…Is that meant to happen?

They share an anxious glance, then laugh a little. [Track 20 ends]
