ROLL TITLES

1 EXT. TUNDRA MOUNTAIN EDGE - NIGHT
[Track 1: The Spider and the Web] 1850 AD. A relatively short, but strong looking man can be seen trotting in the snow. He bears a traditional Inuit outfit, with his hood up and sports the mask typically associated with the Angakkuq, Inuit shamans. He comes across a wounded Caribou, which appears to be bleeding from a gunshot wound.

ANGAKKUQ
Are you okay?

The caribou only shows signs of pain in distress. The angakkuq puts his hand over the caribou's chest area, and strokes its fur, calming it.

ANGAKKUQ
There is nothing to fear. What happened to you? Who did this?

The caribou lifts its head up and points its head in the direction perpendicular to them. The angakkuq looks over and sees two men with hunting rifles in camouflage in the distance who appear to be waiting for the caribou to bleed out, and perhaps too afraid to encounter the angakkuq. The angakkuq clenches his fist in anger.

ANGAKKUQ
Them?

He then suddenly hears a rumbling noise coming from the mountain above. One of the men finally decides to stand up from their spot.

HUNTER
Move, you buffoon, there's an avalanche! It's just a deer!

The hunters proceed to run away.

ANGAKKUQ
The spirits must have planned this.

Angakkuq stands still, seemingly accepting his fate. The avalanche rains down from the mountain, consuming the caribou and the angakkuq. A blood aurora appears in the sky. [Track 1 ends]
2 INT. TARDIS
[Track 2: Official Eviction Notice] The Doctor stands in the side room – obviously a space designed for living luxuriously, looking through the variety of books on the bookshelf while Zach sits in an armchair, napping. Something in the book catches her attention.

DOCTOR
That's beautiful! Have you ever seen this?

Her sudden call jolts him awake.

ZACH
Seen what?

DOCTOR
Check it out.

Zach walks over to the Doctor and looks into the book she's holding. He sees a photo of the Northern Lights.

ZACH
Northern Lights? Not in person. I'd like to, though.

He pauses a moment.

ZACH
You know what? It's just funny, isn't it– how we've travelled across time, been to places I've never thought imaginable– yet, I never thought to ask to see one of the most brilliant natural wonders of the world?

The Doctor grins. She closes her book and quickly gets up.

DOCTOR
Great point, really. We ought to just take a break from all this… adventuring and just take a look at these Earthly wonders.

ZACH
Hm, Earthly wonders?

DOCTOR
Yeah. Wait until you hear about the Wonders of the Universe. I've got a book on that if you want to check those out.

Zach chuckles.

ZACH
Maybe later.

The two walk out of the living quarters and back into the main space, where the console resides. The Doctor presses a few buttons and places her hand on the lever.

DOCTOR
Ready?

Zach gives a quick smile and looks at the Doctor.

ZACH
Go for it.

She pulls the lever, and the roar of the TARDIS can be heard.

3 EXT. TUNDRA PLAINS - NIGHT
The TARDIS can be seen materialising onto a small, icy mound. A large mountain can be seen in the background. The skies are clear, revealing the vast number of stars shining brightly onto the arctic plain. The Doctor steps out – again, wearing the coat she wore in Sevastopol, along with a colourful scarf and some earmuffs. She is followed by Zach, who wears all black, wearing a thick coat and a beanie.

DOCTOR
I should wear this coat more often, it's so useful. Anyway, welcome to the Arctic!

She raises both arms in the air.

DOCTOR
Tad underwhelming, but it's not often one gets to go to places like this– so, no, not that underwhelming, really.

ZACH
I wouldn't even dare call it underwhelming. It's breath-taking – literally.

He looks around at the landscape.

ZACH
You know… with the situation I was in prior to meeting you... I didn't even think I'd have much of a future. Hell, who would've thought that within a short span of time I'd travel in time, go across the universe, and even get to witness the bloody northern lights–

DOCTOR
Hey, look, it's starting!

ZACH
Wasn't talking at all…

But the Doctor has already zoned out. A magnificent streak of green can be seen gradually fading in. A look of excitement can be seen on Zach's eyes, wide open. The tundra, once all white becomes a shade of light green.

DOCTOR
Brilliant.

The green lights abruptly begin fading away.

ZACH
I thought they lasted longer than that.

Suddenly, red can be seen streaking in. The sky turns blood red, blanketing the once green landscape into a red one.

ZACH
Perhaps I spoke too soon.

DOCTOR
Bloody northern lights, alright.

Zach fidgets a little, now noticing the concerned scronch that the Doctor rarely expresses, sending a shiver down his spine. [Track 2 ends]

4 INT. DRILLING FACILITY OFFICE - NIGHT
A distressed young man, dressed in full winter gear can be seen barging into the office of who appears to be his superior. The boss can be seen to be middle-aged and relaxed, having his two feet kicked up on the table.

HUDSON
Sir, we're missing Liam! He hasn't been seen in half an hour.

WILLIAM
Only half an hour, Hudson. You worry too much.

He scrunches up a piece of paper into a ball, throwing it up into the air and catching it, repeatedly.

HUDSON
But, but–

WILLIAM
But, but, but, yeah, yeah, I get it. I'm sure he's fine.

HUDSON
This is a small place! We can't just lose somebody so easily!

WILLIAM
Well, you know what, Hudson? He's probably out scouting for more oil fields, or something. He's a hardworking fellow. Now, if you would be so kind, shut up.

HUDSON
Like I've ever seen someone leave at ten o' clock at night to go scouting for some oil, huh?

Another young man suddenly barges in.

ATIF
Sir, I just heard screaming coming from the mountain!

WILLIAM
You what?

HUDSON
Screaming? Liam!

Hudson charges out of the office. William follows.

WILLIAM
For Christ's sake.

William puts on his jacket and takes his rifle. He then rushes out after them. The camera slowly glides out of the office and pans upwards. The blood aurora can be seen flowing through the sky.

5 EXT. TUNDRA PLAINS - NIGHT
[Track 3: The Bloke Watching Your Dreams] The Doctor and Zach are still watching the blood aurora. They, too, suddenly hear screaming coming from the mountain.

ZACH
Please tell me I'm not the only one that heard that, right?

DOCTOR
No, you're not.

They glance at each other, seemingly to agree unanimously to run towards the mountain.

6 EXT. MOUNTAIN EDGE - NIGHT
The two arrive at the edge of the mountain, out of breath.

ZACH
I can't see anyone… Hello?!

They walk around the edge until they come across the body of a bloodied body of a man. He is lying next to what appears to be a recently dug hole. Zach is repulsed.

ZACH
Ugh.

The Doctor puts her fingers on the body's neck.

DOCTOR
He's still alive.

ZACH
Seriously? How?

DOCTOR
We gotta get him to safety. This is no place for him.

Zach picks up the man. They begin making their way to the TARDIS, when they're abruptly stopped by a party of three.

WILLIAM
You, there!

He aims his hunting rifle at them.

HUDSON
Liam?

WILLIAM
I'm sure that's Liam they've got, alright. Put him down!

The Doctor and Zach turn around and face the three.

DOCTOR
He's dying, we're getting him help. Unless you happen to have any tools?

WILLIAM
Think you guys can get away with this? I know you're lying.

ZACH
And why would we want to kill him?

William thinks for a moment.

WILLIAM
I dunno, but seeing as there's no civilization for miles on end, and there's you guys just lurkin' out here, I don't know what else to expect!

ZACH
Polar bears?

WILLIAM
No, we make sure they don't mess with us. They'd be foolish to attack one of us.

DOCTOR
Actually, you'd be quite mistaken, they do attack humans if they're hungry–

WILLIAM
Shut up, you! We've got disciplining methods.

DOCTOR
I know what that means. Cattle prods, am I right? Hurting innocent creatures just so you can live on their territory without running into the locals.

William scowls.

WILLIAM
We're taking you back to base and reporting this. It'll be a while before any authorities get here, but I'll be damned if Liam doesn't get the justice he deserves.

ATIF
He's gonna bleed out if we keep babbling like this.

WILLIAM
Right! Hurry up! No time to kill!

ZACH
Pun intended?

The Doctor jabs Zach in the stomach, realising it was the bad time to make a joke. The blood aurora fades away as they drudge through the snow. William stands behind Zach and the Doctor, who are whispering away, while Hudson carries Liam's body.

ZACH
Did you see the hole next to his body? He must've dug something out. Maybe the attacker was about to bury him but spotted us. What if we're in a trap and they're going to frame us?

DOCTOR
Zach. We'll get out of this. I promise.

ZACH
Just like you promised to show me a wonder of the world?

DOCTOR
You saw it!

ZACH
Wasn't wondrous, though. Couldn't we have just gone to see the Pyramids?

He shrugs innocently, obviously teasing her.

7 EXT. DRILLING FACILITY CENTRE - NIGHT
About five men can be seen gathered around the main open area of the facility, eagerly awaiting the arrival of their colleagues. The area is dotted with stilted cabins, all varying in colours – most of which are either red or blue. Piles of crates can be seen lying along the side of the road next to the warehouse. Behind these buildings lies a vast, icy ocean, shining as it reflects the night sky above. The group walks into the centre with the Doctor and Zach raising their arms in the air with William pointing his rifle at the two. Hudson dumps Liam onto the ground, exhausted.

HUDSON
We need a medic!

One of the five men, Nicholas, quickly picks him up and scurries off into one of the cabins.

WILLIAM
Now… what are your names?

ZACH
Zach. Zach Ellis.

DOCTOR
And you can call me the Doctor.

WILLIAM
Okay. Zach and- The Doctor.

William scoffs.

WILLIAM
Real name, the Doctor.

DOCTOR
I think you'll find that is my real name. Whether you like it or not.

The Doctor stares William down, unnerving him a little. [Track 3 ends] He backs away, swiftly spinning around. [Track 4: A Girl Has Died]

WILLIAM
You see that white cabin over there? You're going to go there. Once we're in there, I'm going to handcuff the two of you to make sure you don't run away, understand? The rules are simple. If any of you two try acting mischievous, I will shoot you.

DOCTOR
You're making a mistake. Whatever or whoever did that to him-

ZACH
Which wasn't us.

DOCTOR
-is probably still lurking around out there.

ZACH
And if you're focused on us, this could happen again.

WILLIAM
Is that a threat?

ZACH
Oh, my god.

Zach rolls his eyes as William marches them towards his office.

8 INT.DRILLING FACILITY OFFICE - NIGHT
He cuffs them both to some pipes on the wall, switching on a tape device.

WILLIAM
You're going to answer my questions, without any difficulty or hostility. Keep it short and simple, got it?

DOCTOR
Do you have a personality other than your insane power complex?

His mouth twitches a little.

WILLIAM
What… are you doing here?

ZACH
We were just viewing the northern lights. That's all. Our vehicle is… far away from here. We just happened to be walking through the area–

DOCTOR
Trying to avoid the light pollution. We wanted a clear view of the sky.

WILLIAM
Wanted a clear view of the sky? Let's see how that holds up in the court of law.

He then pauses for a moment, before abruptly leaving the office, leaving the Doctor and Zach bewildered.

9EXT. MOUNTAIN EDGE - NIGHT
The silhouette of a person in a large coat can be seen staring in the direction of the drilling facility, seeing many of the workers crowded around in a commotion. The person then tends to the hole in the ground and goes digging, eventually finding the remains of an animal sticking out and takes a few of its bones. The person then scurries off. [Track 4 ends]

10 INT. DRILLING FACILITY OFFICE - NIGHT
[Track 5: Lyra: The Child of a Prophecy] The Doctor and Zach are still handcuffed to the pipes.

ZACH
Have you got anything that can get us out?

The Doctor feels through her jacket pockets with her one hand.

DOCTOR
It appears so.

She pulls out a sonic screwdriver and is about to activate it until William suddenly enters the office again. She quickly scrambles to put it back in her jacket.

WILLIAM
I'm going to report this now. Liam's dead. I haven't got the patience to deal with atrocities like this. I want to get back to normal already. I'm sick of it.

DOCTOR
You're making a grave error here. We didn't do anything to him. There was no reason for us to kill him!

WILLIAM
Perhaps you thought there was money on him?

DOCTOR
No amount of money is worth taking a life over!

WILLIAM
Perhaps the authorities will have a better idea of what questions to ask you.

He dials some buttons and holds the phone up to his ear. He remains silent. The phone continues to buzz, only for the sound of static to take over.

WILLIAM
That's… odd.

He then pulls out his radio.

WILLIAM
Emilie, you there? Emilie? Dammit, Liam's dead and not even my only other technician is there.

DOCTOR
We can fix the connection if you want.

WILLIAM
You'd want that, wouldn't you?

ZACH
I mean, yeah. Do you have a choice? Isolated all the way out here, our help is all you have.

William sighs.

WILLIAM
Alright, fine, fine, fine.

He handcuffs the two.

WILLIAM
That doesn't mean I won't point my rifle at you two.

He takes the rifle off his back and holds it. The two are then followed out of the office by William.

11 EXT. DRILLING FACILITY CENTRE - NIGHT
The centre's crowd has already dispersed. One man sits on the staircase of his cabin.

FACILITY WORKER
Yo, Will, why's the connection out? I heard on the radio.

WILLIAM
No need to worry, we're going to fix it.

DOCTOR
Oh, that reminds me, you've never introduced yourself. What's your name? Will? Is that what you go by. It's a nice name, really.

WILLIAM
My name's William. I go by a variety of nicknames, but you'll call me William and only William.

DOCTOR
Not Willy?

He throws her a dirty glare.

WILLIAM
Only Nicky, one of the medics here, calls me Willy, and only I call him Nicky. It's somewhat of a running joke between us—

DOCTOR
Like a correspondence?

William smirks.

WILLIAM
Yeah.

12 EXT. DRILLING FACILITY SHORE - NIGHT
They pass into the back of the facility, behind all the buildings. They pass by several docks, with a few connecting to the back doors of the warehouse. They continue down the shoreline and walk to the left, further inland and arrive…

13 EXT. DRILLING FACILITY ARCTIC TOWER - NIGHT
at the facility's cell tower. The antenna feeds can be seen snapped off of the dish and onto the snowy ground below.

WILLIAM
Now, I'm no expert in technology, but… boy, is this going to need more than just a restart. Should've installed that second tower sooner.

ZACH
Who's that right there?

WILLIAM
Who's where?

William then faces his attention to the bottom of the tower.

WILLIAM
That's Emilie! Were you checking out the tower? Can you fix it? Emilie, are— are you alright? Is your radio on you? Emilie?

Emilie staggers towards them.

WILLIAM
Emilie? Are you okay? I— I'll call help for you. I'll call Nicky– uh, Nicholas over.

William takes out his radio.

WILLIAM
Nicky, Emilie isn't looking alright. She's just staggering towards us. We're at the tower. Come. Quickly.

There's a seemingly long wait on the radio, before a crackly and difficult response.

NICHOLAS (oc)
On it.

Emilie continues to stagger in the trio's direction.

ZACH
Now what?

WILLIAM
Now we wait for him to arrive.

A blood aurora fades into the sky. [Track 5 ends]

ZACH
We got a bit too comfortable, it seems.

[Track 6: I Will Succeed] A loud crashing sound can be heard coming from the warehouse right next to them.

DOCTOR
What's that?

The alarm in the warehouse begins to go off. The three quickly make their way back.

14EXT. DRILLING FACILITY SHORELINE - NIGHT
They dash along the shoreline and walk through one of the back entrances of the warehouse.

15 INT. DRILLING FACILITY WAREHOUSE - NIGHT
The three quickly look around. Several cargo containers can be seen stacked upon one another. William attempts to rush forward to get around the containers.

DOCTOR
Don't split up. We don't know how dangerous this person, or, thing, may be.

The alarm continues to go off. They move forward cautiously. William has his rifle held up. They turn around the corner and find a container crashed upon someone's body, with only their top half sticking out, face down. They then hear loud thumping noises coming from above.

DOCTOR
In the crane!

They look up and see that the overhead crane's operator is being strangled by a person wearing a brown, somewhat deteriorated parka. The person's face is covered by the operator's body, who is pressed up against the cabin's glass wall in the operating cabin.

OPERATOR
Help! Nick! Nick!

William readies his rifle.

DOCTOR
Don't do it! You'll hit him!

Ignoring the Doctor, William shoots, shattering the glass and hitting the operator in the chest. The two fall backwards.

ZACH
Why did you do that!?

WILLIAM
I'm sorry, I- I thought I could hit the guy's arm.

The person then stands up, using the operator as a shield. The operator can barely speak, only being able to mouth out a few words.

OPERATOR
Please. Don't. Don't shoot. Don't do it.

The person exits the operator's cabin, still holding the operator and walks onto the balcony. The person then proceeds to throw the operator's body onto them, nearly missing the three and sprints down to the back end of the balcony. William shoots at the person, but misses each time, hitting the railings and the surrounding walls. The person then escapes through the balcony's emergency exit.

WILLIAM
God dammit! I can't believe it.

William throws his gun down and tends to the operator, kneeling down alongside the Doctor.

WILLIAM
Is he okay? Is there any chance of him making it? You said you're a doctor, right? Can you help him?

DOCTOR
No. He doesn't have much time left. He's lost a lot of blood.

The operator blinks slowly, barely keeping his eyes open.

OPERATOR
Nicholas. It… it was… it was… Nicholas. Nicholas. Why?

WILLIAM
Nicholas? Was that one of the Inuit parkas he likes to collect? Was that what he was wearing?

OPERATOR
Huh. Uh-huh.

WILLIAM
Another thing I didn't mention to you guys. Nicholas— he likes to collect Inuit artefacts and antiques.

The operator's eyes close. His mouth opens a little.

WILLIAM
Wait, don't go. Don't go. Don't go!

His head slowly turns sideways. [Track 6 ends] William stands up and walks the opposite direction, only to begin collapsing against one of the containers. He then falls to his knees, holding onto the rim of an open container.

WILLIAM
Everything around me is… is just collapsing. Liam's dead.

He looks at the body partially under the container.

WILLIAM
He's dead.

He looks at the operator's body.

WILLIAM
Hugh's dead. I killed him. I killed him! How can I go back home to my wife and kids and tell them I killed someone due to my impulsiveness? How?! How?!

He stands up and repeatedly hits one of his hands against the container.

WILLIAM
Ow!

DOCTOR
William, please-

William picks up his gun and points it at the Doctor. [Track 7: Clear Your Mind]

WILLIAM
Leave me alone! Just let me be! Why don't you guys deal with Nicholas. I now have to come to terms with the fact that even my old friend is a murderer. We're both killers. Take this radio. Go deal with him.

He then storms off through the main entrance of the warehouse. Workers begin entering through both sides of the warehouse. Some stand outside, looking in. The Doctor listens to the radio, the connection still fuzzy, with many asking what had happened. The alarm is disabled.

NICHOLAS (oc)
Has anyone heard from Emilie? She's not at the tower. Is she in the warehouse?

WORKER 2 (oc)
I haven't seen Emilie. Two bodies here at the warehouse though. One's under the container. Could be Emilie.

NICHOLAS (oc)
I'll be there in a bit- Two fatalities?

The radio cuts off. The Doctor grits her teeth.

DOCTOR
Someone needs to fix that tower quickly.

A look of horror dawns on Zach's face.

ZACH
Oh, god.

DOCTOR
What is it?

ZACH
I think I have an idea of what's going on.

DOCTOR
Mm?

ZACH
This may sound a bit crazy, but I think William might be in on this.

DOCTOR
Really?

ZACH
Yeah. Sure, he did just have a freakout a moment ago, but I think he may be acting it out.

DOCTOR
Why?

ZACH
Well, remember when he was interrogating us? He left abruptly and came back in, like, thirty seconds. There's no way he could have figured out that he had died in such a short time. That's not enough time to go from one cabin and back, let alone check on someone's condition. Only William would know that Liam is dead if he had done the murder himself, knowing that the wound he inflicted was fatal.

DOCTOR
You've made some excellent points, but perhaps Nicholas radioed him before he got there?

ZACH
Well, you were a little distracted talking to William about some correspondence or whatever, but I noticed that the worker didn't mention anything about Liam. Surely, someone would prioritize asking about someone's death over cell connection, right? Well, if I remember correctly, he even said that he heard about the connection going down through the radio. If Nicholas had confirmed Liam's death on the radio, then it's likely the worker would have asked William about it.

DOCTOR
But Will was with us, when this guy was attacked.

ZACH
So he's got an accomplice – besides, Will was the one who shot him in the end.

DOCTOR
It's a bit difficult to believe, but it wouldn't hurt to test out this theory. Can you handle yourself?

ZACH
Sure I can.

DOCTOR
Brilliant. I'll go speak with Nicholas. You go speak with William.

ZACH
Gotcha.

DOCTOR
I'll see Nicholas. Good luck.

Zach and the Doctor exit through the warehouse through the back and main entrance respectively. [Track 7 ends]

16 EXT. DRILLING FACILITY ARCTIC TOWER - NIGHT
[Track 8: The Survivors] Nicholas can be seen standing around the area of the cell tower, using binoculars to look out to the shore and sea. The Doctor drudges toward him.

DOCTOR
You're Nicholas, right?

NICHOLAS
Yep. I thought you were in William's office in custody.

DOCTOR
No, he let us out to come help him investigate. As you've heard, Emilie is gone. And there have been two more deaths in that warehouse. Also, quick question, did you radio to William that Liam died?

NICHOLAS
No? What makes you think that Liam died?

DOCTOR
Why, is he alive?

NICHOLAS
No.

DOCTOR
So, you admit that you didn't give any sort of information to William that Liam died?

NICHOLAS
What is this, a cross examination? We're not in court— yet, anyway.

DOCTOR
So, how do you think William would have any idea that Liam died?

NICHOLAS
Medics here have a code to make sure that no panic breaks loose when someone dies. We simply put up black curtains on our window. Simple as that. William probably saw the curtains.

DOCTOR
How about one of the victims who claimed it was you before they died? You're supposedly the only person here who collects Inuit artefacts, and are the only one here who could possibly even wear an Inuit parka! That code of yours could very well be just a lie you made up on the spot, "medic"!

NICHOLAS
That's… that's preposterous! Why would I go around murdering people wearing something people could recognize me by!?

DOCTOR
That's a good point… Perhaps you've been planning this, and aimed to throw out any blood-stained outfit to hide any evidence!

NICHOLAS
This is ridiculous, I—

WORKER 2 (oc)
Nicholas?

Nicholas quickly pulls out his radio.

NICHOLAS
Yes?

WORKER 2 (oc)
We've moved the container off the body. We are now able to confirm the identities of the deceased.

NICHOLAS
Go ahead?

WORKER 2 (oc)
Hugh and Emilie.

The Doctor's eyes widen with shock as her jaws drop. [Track 8 ends]

17 INT.DRILLING FACILITY OFFICE - NIGHT
[Track 9: Emer's Theme 0:50 – 1:14] Zach is in the middle of interrogating William, who is chugging alcohol.

ZACH
Could you not just ignore me? I'm trying to be nice about it. The worst I'm doing is leaving the door open.

WILLIAM
Go away, Zach. Please, stop. I didn't… kill anybody except.. Hugh. And please, just close that damn door, you're going to get snow in here.

ZACH
I thought snow would be the least of your problems. I'll close it if you can answer at least one question. Deal?

WILLIAM
Okay. Am I guilty of murder? No. There. I answered your question. Now close it.

ZACH
Um.

WILLIAM
You didn't say who had to ask the question.

ZACH
Eh, touché.

WILLIAM
I wish I hadn't got rid of that radio. I need to know what's going on. I need updates.

ZACH
Nothing I can do about that, sorry.

[Track 9 ends]

WILLIAM
Actually, nevermind, I did get an update.

ZACH
What do you mean?

WILLIAM
Look behind you. It's Emilie! She's alive!

William gets up but fumbles around, drunkenly.

ZACH
Uh, hi, Emilie.

William wraps his arm around Emilie.

ZACH
Don't!

[Track 10: Dalek Shootout] Emilie's eyes glow red and slowly turns her head toward William.

WILLIAM
Uh oh.

18 EXT. DRILLING FACILITY SHORE - NIGHT
The Doctor and Nicholas are running towards the office. The two pant as they speak to each other.

DOCTOR
We… we saw… Emilie alive when we… heard the crashing… sound.

NICHOLAS
I might have… an idea of what's… going on. I just… I just need to investigate what's going on… first.

A blood aurora soars through the sky once again. The two notice it.

DOCTOR
Something's about to happen! Hurry up!

NICHOLAS
It's difficult to run… with all this medical equipment!

19 INT.DRILLING FACILITY OFFICE - NIGHT
Emilie is holding up William by his throat. Zach picks up William's wine bottle and smashes it over Emilie's head, seemingly unaffecting him.

WILLIAM
I guess this is it for me, boy. Screw you, Emilie!

The Doctor and Nicholas rush in through the open door.

NICHOLAS
Emilie was confirmed dead! This can't be possible!

ZACH
What?!

DOCTOR
And it appears she's right here.

Emilie throws William against the wall.

EMILIE
He will die. For all he has done. He must pay the price.

WILLIAM
For what?

EMILIE
You are responsible for all this.

WILLIAM
What? The base? I'm just here to manage things. I was just assigned here by the company. Or behind the murders? What do you want?

ZACH
Just run, you drunk!

WILLIAM
Right.

NICHOLAS
Follow me!

The quartet run out of the office. Zach shuts the door on Emilie, who attempts to charge after them.

20 EXT. DRILLING FACILITY CENTRE - NIGHT
They hurry over the snow.

NICHOLAS
This way! To the warehouse! We can try trapping that thing there!

ZACH
But what was it? It's not even Emilie, it's just some shapeshifter or whatever! The real Emilie died!

NICHOLAS
I can explain, just come on!

Nicholas leads the way to the warehouse.

21 EXT. DRILLING FACILITY WAREHOUSE - NIGHT
They arrive through the main entrance. The warehouse still has workers lingering around.

WILLIAM
Everyone, get out of here! We'll solve the issue ourselves!

The workers then clear out from the warehouse. Nicholas then leads them up the balcony.

NICHOLAS
We can try dropping a container on it. It looks like a lot of damage has been done here from earlier. What even happened?

DOCTOR
Two deaths. Could you explain now?

NICHOLAS
Okay, so, first, I have to confess something. I was the last to see Liam conscious.

WILLIAM
What!?

NICHOLAS
Okay, before you yell at me, just let me explain myself. As you know, I like to collect Inuit artefacts, and based off my experience, I can safely say that Inuit people used this as a burial ground— not for bodies though. They just buried a lot of religious items. So, I asked Liam to come with me. Just to keep company with me while I did some digging. A lot of items were made from copper, so I brought a metal detector with me. After a short while, I stumbled across something and began digging. You won't believe what I came across.

ZACH
Don't need the dramatics, just tell us what it was.

NICHOLAS
A shaman's body! Anyway, I told Liam to stay while I went to get a camera so I could photograph my discovery. I guess we had been out for a long time, because someone noticed that Liam was missing while I was searching for my camera and decided to go get him. That's when you guys found him.

DOCTOR
Well, we didn't see anything in the hole.

NICHOLAS
Then the Shaman must have been alive. Ooh, I have an idea! There's a spirit guide called a… uh. Hold on, let me look at my notes.

He pulls out a piece of paper.

NICHOLAS
A tuurn... gaq. A tuurngaq. Yeah, a tuurngaq—

WILLIAM
Did you actually write this stuff down? You absolute nerd.

NICHOLAS
Never know when it'll come in handy. Anyway, to put it simply, the tuurngaq is a spirit guide which gives the shaman, or, in correct terms, the angakkuq, extraordinary powers. Essentially immortality, strength, and speed. Some malignant shamans have been known to abuse their tuurngaq and use it for their own personal gain. Why is it attacking us? I have no idea.

ZACH
And the thing?

NICHOLAS
Probably some undescribed tupilaq.

ZACH
And what's that?

NICHOLAS
A monster created by angakkuit to get revenge on people. It's probably locked onto William. I've not heard of shapeshifting tupilaqs, but that's the only explanation.

ZACH
Anything we can do to defeat it?

NICHOLAS
They can be turned against their creator using some spell. No idea how to do that though. Okay, that was enough of a crash course. I'll operate the crane. William, go get the tupilaq to follow you. Lure it to where I can drop a container on it. Just remember to be careful!

Nicholas enters the crane's operation cabin. The three walk down the stairs.

22 DRILLING FACILITY OUTSIDE WAREHOUSE ENTRANCE - NIGHT
The three wait outside the main entrance. The blood aurora continues.

WILLIAM
There it is. The thing trying to kill me.

They look down the pathway and see the tupilaq staggering down, staring at the three with glowing red eyes.

WILLIAM
It's taken Emilie's body. Ugh.

ZACH
And now she's going to be crushed by a container— again.

William pulls out a cigar and lights it. He puffs it.

WILLIAM
If I die from this thing, I just hope it doesn't hurt anyone else. If it doesn't then that'll be the ultimate sacrifice. I just worry about what will happen with my family. What they'll do without me.

The tupilaq is now very close to William. He slowly walks backwards and…

23 DRILLING FACILITY WAREHOUSE - NIGHT
He heads into the warehouse. He walks into an open space, with the Doctor and Zach behind him.

WILLIAM
Now!

Nicholas drops the container. The tupilaq looks up to see the container falling onto it. An eerie silence ensues. [Track 10 ends]

ZACH
Is it dead?

[Track 11: The Daleks Are Here] A pair of arms appear from under the container.

WILLIAM
Dammit! Why is it so strong?

The tupilaq crawls out from under the container, now horribly misfigured, with the top half of its body bent completely backwards. Nicholas looks down from the operation cabin.

NICHOLAS
It's hideous!

William spots a barrel of gasoline in one of the containers behind him.

WILLIAM
Doctor, push that barrel over!

She quickly runs behind it and pushes it to the ground, spilling gasoline everywhere and onto the tupilaq, still on the ground. William then pulls out his lighter and sets the gasoline ablaze. The tupilaq screeches as its skin melts.

DOCTOR
Stand back!

The three cautiously walk backwards towards the back of the warehouse as the tupilaq slowly moves after them on fire, leaving puddles of molten skin behind it. The silhouette of the tupilaq can be seen morphing from Emilie's disfigured body into a more exotic form, with its head being larger than the rest of its body, conical in shape, and a hideously large lower jaw and a grin. Nicholas shouts from the other end of the warehouse.

NICHOLAS
Shoot it! It might be vulnerable now!

William shoots it, and it finally collapses. It attempts to crawl towards him, but is shot once more, finally putting it down.

WILLIAM
Christ, finally.

DOCTOR
And now, to deal with the one behind all this. Come out, shaman!

Zach puts out the fire with an extinguisher as Nicholas climbs down from the crane. They all walk towards the entrance.

DOCTOR
We can sort this out diplomatically. Just come out, angakkuq!

A figure can be seen behind the group.

ANGAKKUQ
I never left. I was always here. Listening. Feeling the world around me.

The angakkuq's clothing is much more deteriorated. His mask is cracked and stained.

DOCTOR
Care to elaborate?

ANGAKKUQ
I felt the pain of the animals being killed without purpose. Their souls, angered. Having been trapped for years on end, I couldn't bear the suffering of innocent creatures being killed for a show of prowess. The polar bears have been dwindling in numbers since you invaders arrived. I believe what I have done was justified.

WILLIAM
You think murdering people is justified over some animals dying? Look, I get you've got your own culture and all, but to most of the world, including us, we don't see animals as equal. We put some in cages for their whole lives, for crying out loud.

ZACH
He doesn't speak for us, just saying.

ANGAKKUQ
The shorelines are shrinking. The world is coming to an end as we know it. End your ways, or I'll be forced to continue my revenge for the greater good.

DOCTOR
Zach's right. Don't listen to him. He isn't representative of all of us. You shouldn't kill every "invader" because you think they're all the same. Everyone's different. Everyone's unique in their own way. In fact, there are people out there trying to end this… this chaos and make the world better for all living beings. And those animals in cages he mentioned? In some cases, they're being treated well, and in some cases saving them from extinction. It's not good, but the world is changing. There are only some people holding us back in the darkness. People like William.

ANGAKKUQ
I am not the only one trying to save our lands?

DOCTOR
Not just your lands. The whole world.

The Angakkuq stands in silence.

ANGAKKUQ
Then it is only him I must kill.

The Angakkuq lunges at Will, but Zach stands in the way.

ZACH
No! There doesn't need to be any more death!

DOCTOR
Zach-

ZACH
You be quiet. I wanna talk to the Anga… Angaduck.

NICHOLAS
Angakkuq.

ZACH
Right. This man… he's not at all kind. He's hurt others, he tortured this land, stripped it of its resources. You want to make him pay, but killing him isn't going to hurt anyone but his family. You shouldn't avenge death with more death. It's not going to cause anything but more pain. You've shown him what he's doing is wrong. Now he can take that, and learn to change, like the rest of the world, or watch as the rest of the world leaves him behind. Please… spare his life, and show him that it's decent to show mercy.

The Angakkuq steps back, before nodding. [Track 11 ends]

ANGAKKUQ
I shall… be waiting. Until the ice breaks once again.

ZACH
Thank you.

[Track 12: Look To The Stars] The Angakkuq's skin begins to emit light from behind the mask, and he vanishes into thin air, leaving behind only his clothing and his mask. A ball of light leaves where he once stood. The group follows it.

24 DRILLING FACILITY OUTSIDE WAREHOUSE ENTRANCE - NIGHT
They walk outside and watch it fly straight up. A magnificent green light streaks through the sky, zooming past the mountain and shining everyone's faces green. Nicholas and William hug each other, relieved. Zach looks up in awe.

ZACH
Now that's wondrous. Finally, no more interruptions. Just the Northern Lights.

DOCTOR
Take this as a warning, William. You've seen the power of the Arctic. Don't take it for granted.

She strolls off, and Zach watches after her, before looking back at William and Nicholas.

ZACH
Hehe… I think… I think that's it. Yeah, she's gone. Sorry. She's right, though. Like I said – change the world, or get left behind. Uh- Bye!

He chases after her.

25 EXT. TUNDRA PLAINS – NIGHT
They arrive back at the TARDIS, taking one final look out at the tundra.

ZACH
It's beautiful, don't you think?

DOCTOR
Not so beautiful when you think about what they're doing to it. The fact that their lives had to be threatened to show them their true selves… It shouldn't have to be this way.

ZACH
Hopefully this will lead to something better, though.

DOCTOR
Death never leads to something better.

His face falls, and she silently enters the police box. [Track 12 ends]
