She woke up in the darkness of the night, the moon shining brightly above. Her eyes fluttered open, only to close right after in pain. Her head was throbbing painfully as if she had gone pub crawling the night before. That did not make much sense, as she basically hadn't partied since the whole world pandemic shit started. She hissed and cursed under her breath. "What the fuck?!"
She opened her eyes once more, and as she took the forest around her; she froze in shock. The last thing she remembered was a white light, and loud noise. She sat up and glanced around once more. She was in a forest in the middle of the night, this was weird. How had she ended up here? Was she kidnapped? Roofied?
She quickly looked down and let out a sigh. Thank god she still had her clothes on. She noticed that she was wearing black skinny jeans with a pair of black boots and frowned, she did not recognize the clothes she was wearing. She had a red jacket on, also not hers. What exactly was going on?
She wanted to get up, but her head was buzzing, and her neck was aching. The weirdest thing was her teeth, they felt weird. As soon as she felt her teeth, she noticed she was hungry. Not just a little, more like I will murder for a Big Tasty with chips kind of hungry.
She just sat there for a full-on minute, staring into space not really understanding what the fuck was her life until she forced herself up. She dusted her clothes lazily, and as she passed her fingers through her hair she stopped. She carefully moved her hair so she could see it better in the moonlight, and honestly to God let out a shriek. "Where the hell did this hair come from?!"
She had cut her hair a few months back, it should reach her shoulders and be blonde. Instead, she had long reddish-brown hair with curls, this was not her hair. She pulled it, just to be sure, and let out a groan. Ok, this was also not a wig, and It did not feel like extensions. If her headache hadn't been killing her, she would be freaking out right now.
"Ok, ok… breathe Sofia." She whispered to herself, massaging her forehead slowly. "You are in the woods, in the middle of the night, wearing not only clothes that aren't yours but also hair that isn't yours. There's got to be an explanation."
The headache was not going away, but she needed an answer and she wasn't going to figure out what the hell was going on in the middle of the forest. She focused on walking, deciding on a random direction hoping to find civilization. She needed a phone, a shower, and a burger.
As she walked, she realized a few things and none of them calmed her down. First, she could see perfectly in the dark. It was weird because even with the moonlight she shouldn't be able to see everything so perfectly. She had never seen so clearly in her whole life, so doing it in the dark… strange. Second, she realized she was smaller than she used to be. That was weird, she did not really understand how one could shrink like that. Third, her sense of smell was way better than before. She was sure she should not be able to smell the rabbit about twenty meters away either.
Something was going on, something was wrong. And she was just so bloody hungry and tired of walking. Her throat felt as dry as sand, at this point she was not sure if she was hungry or just thirsty.
She was so focused on her stinging throat that she almost missed the voices a mile or two away. For the moment she put the fact she could hear from so far away in the back of her head, let not focus on the weirdness for now.
She started walking in the direction of the voices and in a rapid pace she reached a clearing where she found a couple sitting by a fire. The smile she had on her face froze in shock, this was by far the strangest thing in a night full of weird.
By the couple, there was a horse tied to a tree. The man had long brown hair and a beard, but what pulled her attention was that he was wearing strange and old clothes and that he had a bloody sword on his hand ready to strike. The woman had long hair filled with braids, a long gown out of a historical romance even if on the poor-looking side.
Sofia's mind came up with two hypotheses. Somehow, she had run into a medieval fair kind of thing. Or, by some inconceivable way she had somehow time traveled. All the eerie happenings she had experienced today, the bizarre-looking people in the creepy forest… why did time travel even sound logical? She wanted to scream.
Dum-ba-badump Dum-ba-badump Dum-ba-badump Dum-ba-badump
Except, this drum-like sound took all her focus.
She followed to sound to find the couple, who had gotten up from their seats. The woman was grabbing the man's arm, stopping him from attacking Sofia with the sword. The sound was coming from them, it was their heartbeats.
Then the smell hit her. This woman smelt divine, like a mouth-watering hamburger out of the grill. The man smelled like a ham and cheese toasty, the perfect breakfast. Her rational mind was telling her that people smelling like food was bad, people don't eat people.
The next thing she knows, however, she is already biting into the man's jugular with her teeth. The woman let out a scream, but Sofia didn't care. She was so hungry, and the blood hit her tongue warm like a blanket.
Unfortunately, she did not get to enjoy her meal because the next thing she knows her head gets hit with numerous memories and emotions that don't belong to her.
Hope Mikaelson, she knows that name.
She started watching the Vampire Diaries when she was in college and continued because the actors were all hot. By the third season, she was just watching for the villains and the few secondary characters she liked. She ended up catching up on the Original, even if she felt like the plot with the baby was a bit too Twilight for her. Still, the Mikaelson's were dope, so she watched it all only to get such a shitty finale. She tried Legacies, but she found it to be a mix between Harry Potter (because of the school) and Supernatural (all the weird monster hunts).
Still, she had literally seen Hope Mikaelson grown on screen, and she wanted to see where she would go with her life. Her boyfriend was lame, making him a phoenix did not make him cooler. Alaric was still alive somehow, and still an asshole. Caroline was MIA, she should be the one taking care of that school, not the human ex-hunter. They brought out Kai just to kill him again, which sucked. The twins, Lizzie and Josie, were a breath of fresh air. Other than the twins and Hope, the only character Sofia liked had been Ryan Clarke. Maybe because he was the only villain in the show worth anything, I mean Malivore was a pile of goo or a grotesque sandman look-like, and that dude that could resurrect people was just ugh.
According to the last memory Hope had, she had just jumped into Malivore with Ryan Clarke. In the show, that Sofia remembered, they did jump, and both ended up inside the pit. Then, Hope got out and abandoned Clarke only to find out that everybody had forgotten her.
That was what was meant to happen, so why did Hope Mikaelson end up in the woods in what appears to be the past? And why had Sofia woken up in her Tribid ass body with her memories?
Having Hope's memories at least made the weirdness she had experienced seem somewhat normal, the girl had been mixed with the supernatural since birth, so body-jumping felt like an everyday occurrence. The time travel bit was strange, but when one deals with unicorns and mummies, it sounds very tame.
Also, for a second Sofia was grateful. If she had time-traveled she did not have to pretend to be Hope. Nor did she have to deal with the girl's boyfriend, the flaming chicken known as Landon.
A scream rippled through the air, as she let the body of the man drop to the floor dead and without a drop of blood.
Right, and why is she a vampire? This had not happened in the show.
She turned to the woman and put her hand up, closing it in a fist as she chanted. "Ad somnum." The woman's eyes rolled up, and she fell to the ground asleep.
Sofia took a deep breath, trying to control whatever the fuck she was feeling. She could barely distinguish her emotions from Hope's emotions. Hell, she was having a hard time understanding which memories were her own.
The fact was, she was panicking, and it didn't suit her. Nope, Sofia was always in control of her emotions and was proud of that control. She liked to think that she had a mental Wall of China in her head, she could easily put whatever upset her on the other side of the wall and live without cares or problems. She just had to put the shock she was feeling beyond that wall, and then she just had to keep calm and move on.
"Ok, ok, Sofia-Hope whatever middle names, and still not sure if I'll go for Mikaelson or not." She said, talking to herself to gain control of the situation. "You have somehow been transporter into the body of a fictional character, a supernatural character. The most supernatural one of the lot, actually. Also, you have somehow triggered her vampire side and now are immortal and need to feed on blood."
As she mentioned blood she turned around and looked at the dead body of the man she had just killed and slightly winced. "Sorry dude, but like this is the middle ages or something your life expectancy wasn't that high anyway. And you had a sword, I felt threatened. Plus, you smelt like toasty…"
Becoming a vampire augmented the traits of a person, and well Sofia had always known that her conscience was the size of an ant. As in tiny, and easily squeezed down. Still, she had just committed murder. Then again, if she had not, she would die. Better that guy dead than her.
She became a killer, drunk the blood of a person, and was now talking to his corpse. Oh god, she was pulling a Ted Bundy. Bad Sofia, bad Sofia. The part of her mind that remembered being Hope was guilt-tripping her- the little bitch. According to the girl's memories, Hope always tried to be good and was a bit of a martyr (ergo jumping down into Malivore).
Watching that on TV was fine, but Sofia wasn't a fictional character. She was a human, a selfish one with good survival instincts. Plus, she was an orphan and had lived all her live fighting to make it in the world. The fact that Katherine had been the character she had felt was the most realistic one in The Vampire Diaries was telling.
She let out a sigh and glanced at the corpse, it is not like she could do much more other than bury the body. But the body could wait, her strange situation could not and she needed to focus. This body, being a werewolf and a newly turned vampire, was affecting her ability to concentrate.
"Ok, vampire and werewolf but I still have magic since I did that spell. Cool, Hope knows lots of magic, that's dope. Super Tribrid for the win, at least I did not wake up in someone lame like Elena Gilbert or Camille. Ok, new identity is settled. Could be worse, at least I'm not dea…" She said to herself but did not finish.
As soon as she thought about being dead, she realized what had happened. That light she had seen and that sound… it had been a car hitting her at high speed in an intersection. She understood something now.
"Fuck!" She cursed. "Not only did Hope die, but I also fucking died too."
She let her mind wander to her life for a second, before shaking her head. She was an orphan, no family to speak of. She had friends and co-workers who would be sad about her passing, but they would forget her with time. She would miss her dog, Ravi. She hoped he found good owners, he liked belly scratches before bedtime. Other than that, there was not much to mourn.
A groan from the ground took her out of her musings, the woman was starting to wake up. That brought her to her other problem… time travel.
"Time travel is nice when you have a Tardis. What don't I have? A fucking Tardis. So… slow path it is, isn't it?" She ranted. "What year is it? And where the hell am I? I am on earth, right? I'm not going to mourn my life, but something tells me I'm going to mourn the internet, fast food, and plenty of nice things like canalized water."
The moment she thought of time travel, the image of the Mikaelson's popped into her head. Oh yeah, Hope's family were still alive, weren't they? Or would that be her family now? She was not sure. For one, she was not Hope. Plus, Hope wouldn't be born for God knows how long. Still, the Family is Always and Forever bit kind of struck a chord with her.
Hope Mikaelson's greatest wish was to save her family, to have them back. Sofia had taken over the girl's body, she felt a bit responsible. Plus, with all the added memories the Mikaelson's were not just the cool vamps on the tv anymore. They felt like family, she never had one of those before… the least she could do was make sure they did not die. Well, from the clothes of the woman waking up she had a lot of time to save them. A problem for another day then.
The woman opened her eyes, but before she could scream again Sofia grabbed her by the neck and squeezed a bit, effectively shutting her up. She focused her eyes on the woman, trying the mind-control vampire bullshit this universe was famous for.
"Tell me who you are, where we are, and the date." She compelled.
The woman's face became blank, as she answered truthfully. "Mi nombre es Esmeralda. Estamos en el Reino de Castilla. El año es 1024."
Sofia's mind froze as the woman, Esmeralda, finished her sentence. On one hand, thank god she learned Spanish in school. On the other hand…
"Fucking Hell! 1024? My new dad isn't even a century old!" Sofia cursed the long path indeed. Living throughout the ages as a vampire sounded exciting, having to wait for the invention of comfortable beds… not so much. At least she was not on another planet, just Europe.
Ok, she could do this. She turned to the woman and compelled her to strip naked, she needed to blend in, and she was not going to blend in with jeans in the 11th century. She put the ancient dress on quickly, frowning at how uncomfortable the fabric felt.
She looked at the naked woman and let out a sigh, another grave to dig. Or maybe she would just set them on fire, that sounded quicker. "Sorry lady, I totally ate your man in a not-sexy kind of way. But I am still starving, and you smell like braised pork. I am just ranting before I kill you because It eases up that little bit of guilt I feel in the back of my head. So, you know, thanks for the meal. Itadakimasu."
As soon as she bit down, the blood hit her tongue and she was in paradise. It was like being high while having a never-ending orgasm. Was this what #foodgasm meant all along? No wonder ripper Stefan when on blood binges, this was the life.
She drank till the last drop and decided on burning the bodies with a spell. By the time she was finished, it was the start of a new day, and the sun was starting to rise.
She did not know what to do, she literally had no plans for the next thousand years. She would just roam and see where her feet took her. Sofia-Hope had all the time in the world.
"Sofia-Hope sounds weird." She whispered as she got on her newly stolen horse. She hoped it was easy to ride a horse with supernatural strength helping or she would be screwed.
"Should I get a new name? Hope does not look like a Sofia, and I don't feel like a Hope. I can't keep the Mikaelson either, can't have grumpy gramps tracking me down… or crazy aunt Dhalia…"
She shook her head, no point in thinking about people she would probably have to kill in the future. Her name however was something to think about. She looked at the sunrise and sang a song that had never felt more appropriate in her whole life.
"It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life for me, ooh
And I'm feeling good"
"That's sounds just about right." She said out loud, barely giving it much thought. "Well, Dawn Nikson it is then."
This was the start of a new day and of a new life, so Dawn felt like a good name. Mikael was a dick, so she did not feel like having his name. She decided on Nikson, honoring her fictional father who sacrificed himself for her. OG Hope would have totally agreed.
She hummed the song under her breath as she rode the horse into the light of dawn.
Ryan Clarke was not sure if he should curse Hope Mikaelson or thank her, as he took on the sights of an ancient-looking village.
Who knew that if you mixed Hybrid plus Malivore it would result in time travel? He certainly did not.
A/N: HI GUYS NEW FANFICTION HERE ! I asked my readers in my last chapter of Black Cat if this was a good idea, and everybody told me to do it. So, I went ahead and wrote the first chapter.
I want you guys to tell me your thoughts on this! Did you enjoy it? Would you keep reading? Should I keep writing?
Dawn, was the name I chose as an alias for Sofia/Hope. I might just use it from here on out. She is a bit control freak when it comes to her thoughts and feelings, but when no one's around she comes out as a funny rambler. How she interacts with others? Well, that's to be seen.
I'm planning on some familiar faces popping up, btw. Also, Ryan Clarke caught a free ride to the past… I wonder how that will turn out. I'm not planning on talking much about Malivore, or other characters or plots from Legacies.
If you have any ideas let me know in the comment section down below!
